Kitty Pryde Peter's phone had buzzed with a text message. Then buzzed again thirty seconds later. Then again, twenty-five seconds later. And on the fourth text, which didn't even make it another twenty seconds, there was a -really- good chance it was Ned.

Sure enough, that is who the texts were from:

> Peter! Steve's Comics has a Wonder Woman #33! Randy was just in there and told me.

> Peter! Are you on your way!?

> Peter tell me you're getting this and you're on your way.

> Look at your phone, you've been wanting that comic forever. Also, get me pizza while you're there.

The comic shop was a familiar Queens haunt all the way to Peter's middle school days. The people that work there were, well, maybe friends is too strong a word, but they were familiar and on a name basis, Steve and his friends that hang out slash work there.

The place only has a few people in it. There's a group of kids in a back corner looking at some tabletop books and arguing rather strenuously about the best third level spell. Steve and his friend Mike are behind the counter, flipping through new comics that have come out. A few other people are there and there. Back on the end of an aisle is where the Wonder Woman comic would be.
Peter Parker The perils of being a super hero. Yes, Peter got the texts from Ned, but at the time he was busy webbing up a purse snatcher and leaving his hand written note to the police - courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Spider-man!

He collects his camera - you never know if there is a neat pose somewhere that JJJ would pay for - and looks at his phone. "Oh, man!"

The one advantage of being a super hero is that while you cannot always respond quickly to things, sometimes once you do respond you can _handle_ it quickly. And so Spider-man anxiously webs his way over towards Steve's Comics far faster than Peter could have run on his legs. He lands on the building next door, quickly dons his Peter attire (Spidey costume remaining underneath), and then drops down in the alleyway.

Thus, Peter dashes into the shop, looking quickly this way and that to orient himself, before making haste back towards where the coveted issue may be stored. He is in such a rush that he does not even take the time to unmat his hair, slicked to his scalp from the heat and the pressure from his mask. But what does he care, no one at a _comic book shop_ is going to judge him, right?
Kitty Pryde The magazine is right there on a spinning rack at the end of the aisle, situated out at a 45 degree angle which lets Peter just see the cover as he approaches it.

Is there a trick in the lighting that makes the hallowed copy almost seem to glow in its own light? Wonder Woman on the cover, throwing her lasso around an entire squad of German soldiers, but then a tank coming over a rise behind her as if taking her by surprise!

It's there for the taking. Peter's hand reaching out for it to grasp it and pull it from the rack. And as he does, another hand comes into view, from someone out of sight around the end of the aisle. Both of their hands grasp the revered comic at the same time, lifting it, each holding a corner.

As Peter comes to a halt, he sees who the other hand belongs to. A pretty young woman of about twenty, with dark hair pulled back into a pony tail. She's wearing a Chicago Cubs t-shirt, one that is just the right amount of tight on her toned, slender body. She's surprised to have someone else's hand on her magazine, apparently, Kitty Pryde's eyebrows going up as she looks over at Peter Parker. Her eyes go up to his matted hair, then back down to his face. "Hello," she says to him with a grin.
Peter Parker "Um, hi!" replies Peter quickly, relying upon his talent for letting his mouth run before he actually takes a moment to think. "You've got some Wonder-ful taste here too, I see!" The words kind of blurt out without much thought, which is good because immediately after sending out the arguably witty barrage of language Peter actually takes a moment to let his brain catch up with his mouth, and that's when it stalls.

Is it that the girl is pretty, or that she is trying to snag the same comic he is? Or the fact that she is in a comic store at all?

Or is it just that he is suddenly self-conscious about having Spider-head, which the pretty girl is _clearly_ eyeing as she makes her grin.

Taking on the Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus, no problem. Finding something to say to a girl? THAT's where Peter's courage tends to dissipate. "Um." he says, finally, seeing that she is, in fact, still grasping the issue. "Kind of a tie, huh?"
Kitty Pryde The young woman's grin widens a bit at the compliment. Is it a compliment? Or flattery? Well it could be both of course. Though something about Peter Parker's delivery brings out more of Kitty's grin. There's just such a sweet innocence to it, like he blurted it out without thinking.

"Thank you," she replies back to him. "Been looking for this comic for a really long time," she tells him, trying to give the comic just a slight pull her direction but finding Peter is still holding it too.

She looks back down at the rare comic and then back up to Peter. "Pretty close to one," she agrees about it being a tie. "What should we do? Maybe let the store clerk decide?" she asks. Says the pretty girl. In a comic book store. Letting a comic book store owning clerk decide which of them should have it. Can anyone guess which way that would end up going?
Peter Parker It does seem as if the comic wants to stay with Peter, even as his fingers seem to open up their grip. Perhaps loosened by the distraction of the girl.

"Me too," he says, glancing at the comic but really only for a moment before he looks back at Kitty. "You a fan? I met her. A few weeks ago. She smiled at me." It is abundantly clear that he is simply rambling with whatever comes to mind, his face flushing a bit.

"Sorry, that's..." He sighs. At her suggestion, he laughs, and shakes his head. "Yeah, pretty sure you'd win that one."

Another deep sigh as he slowly peels his fingers off the comic, relinquishing control to Kitty. "Maybe another one will come in," he murmurs. His senses are starting to come back to him though, and as he looks at Kitty he offers a smile. "How about I let you take it home but I can snag visitation rights?"

Smooth, Parker. His face immediately twists he realizes just how bad that sounds.
Kitty Pryde Listening to the boy talk about his encounter with Diana Prince keeps that grin of warm amusement on Kitty's face. There's just such a nice, genuine quality to him as he seems to speak his mind. Plus that slight awkwardness. It's kind of endearing.

Kitty also can relate to his reaction about having met Diana Prince. "I met her once as well. Sort of. I saw her, in Gotham," Kitty says. She had just run towards the sound of gunfire, and had spent the battle getting innocent people out of harm's way through a building wall, just witnessing glimpses of Wonder Woman at work inside fighting gunmen. But even that little glimpse was enough to give Kitty goosebumps remembering.

As Peter lets go of the comic, Kitty holds it a little more normally, moving the other hand to it to avoid bending the corner she was holding. "Visitation rights?" she repeats with a soft, warm chuckle. "Like every other weekend and an extra week a year?" she asks.

The young woman looks him up and down for a moment. "What's your name. I'm Kitty," she offers.
Peter Parker Fighting to try to suppress the blushing, Peter decides to focus on the memory of Diana instead of the girl standing in front of him. Somehow that is easier.

"I was covering the grand opening of the space port and she was there as a dignitary. She seemed nice." Not that he got that close to her.

Watching the comic drift away he seems to have a sad expression for a moment. Then she teases him for his comment - a well deserved tease. "Um, yeah, but it sounded way more connected and less creepy when it followed my comment about it being like Solomon splitting the baby except since I didn't actually _say_ that part but just thought it the context was kind of missing and..."

He might have continued rambling if not for her asking his name. "Peter. I'm Peter Parker." He extends his hand. "Nice to meet you, Kitty!"
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde reaches out to shake Peter's hand. "Nice to meet you, Peter," she tells him, her expression still having that warm, amused smile. "Wow, that must have really been something. Would have loved to be able to go to that," she tells him.

She lets go of his hand and looks back down at the comic book, her expression turning thoughtful. In her head, she's thinking how this might be the closest Peter Parker ever gets to a superhero again. With her advantage on him there, maybe it be the right thing to let him have it.

Kitty looks back up, the pretty girl's brown eyes focusing back on Peter. "Ok, Peter Parker. Convince me that you should be the one to buy the comic," she says, crossing her arms with one hand still holding the comic.
Peter Parker "it was something!" Peter agrees quickly. "I took a bunch of photos - only a few of them made the paper, but if you wanted I could show you the rest of them." His smile is genuine and friendly as he makes the earnest offer. "If you like superheroes, I've got a bunch that I've taken."

When she challenges him, he starts to think of an answer to save the comic. Then he watches her and somehow the fate of the comic drifts out of his mind. "Uh, look. You can have it if you want." After all, of course, he IS a super hero. And maybe he'll meet Diana again some day fighting some crime!

"How about I make you a deal - you take it, read it, enjoy it. But I'll give you a photo I took of her from that day if you let me read it some time." He smiles as he ventures out the offer. "I could you you wherever." He pauses. "Or, um, i could just bring the photo if you don't want to risk the comic getting damaged." Smooth negotiating, Parker.
Kitty Pryde Kitty keeps her amusement mostly in her eyes, not wanting it to embarrass Peter Parker. He's got that gentle, likeable quality to him. "You cave way too easily," she tells him.

The young woman glances back up at Peter's hair and reaches out. If he doesn't stop her, she says as her fingers brush a few times through his hair to set it more aright, "And you should run a come through there after you get done wearing a hat," she says with a warm chuckle. "There. Better."

She pulls her hand back and looks back to Peter's face. "Ok, deal. You show me your photo collection, and you get to read the comic. And I'll give you another shot to talk me out of it later," she tells him with a smile.
Peter Parker There is a bit of a laugh. "I'd like to think that sometimes I know what's worth fighting over and what isn't." Peter flashes a grin towards Kitty. "You seem to be a real fan, too, and..." He shrugs. "Just trust me when I say that you should have this more than me." If she only knew, he thinks to himself. Maybe she's a fan of Spider-man too!

He doesn't stop her. Although his eyes look up towards her hand, and he flushes a bit. "Uh, I came running straight from work when I heard they had it and didn't stop home." He laughs and nods to her. "Much better. Thanks."

Laughing again, Peter nods. "Sounds like a plan!" There's another smile and then - "But if I talk you out of it, then what excuse will I have to get to see you again?"
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde pulls out a card and a pen and then jots her phone number down on it, and hands it over to Peter. That done she starts taking a few backwards steps towards the front of the store, the cherished comic held against her chest in both arms not unlike a school girl carrying books.

"Well, I don't know, Peter Parker," she tells him, giving the charming young man a coy smile. "I guess you'd have to think up another one," she says, eyes lit with a warm amusement as she turns to walk up towards the front of the store to pay for the comic. Before she leaves, she takes one last look back over her shoulder at Peter to wave.
Peter Parker If it had been a super villain, he'd have no trouble thinking up a witty retort. But faced with a cute girl, Peter can only take the card and smile back at her. "I will!" He promises, as his eyes continue to follow her as she backs away, and the turns away.

He stands transfixed until she is finally gone and only then does he look down at the card. Hoping it is actually her number and not a ruse.

He stares at it for another moment replaying the scene in his head until another buzz from Ned shakes him from his reverie.

> Did you get it??

Peter laughs and types up a quick response.

>> No, I think I got something better! Dude I gotta fill you in on what just happened...
