Hyperion     Yes, it's Centennial Park. People come and go from the park all the time. And while some are peaceful law-abiding people... in fact most of them are. There -are- those who take pride, pleasure, or at least profit in the misery and loss of others.

An energy surge happened when Hyperion responded to what was basically a run-of-the-mill mugging. His Atomic vision slagged the barrel of the handgun that was being held on a civilian off to one side of the park. That energy spike likely sent out a ping to some sensors in the region even as Hyperion came down and did the whole Spandex 'n Cape thing, handing the mugger over to authorities and making sure the victim-to-be was okay... Another day in Metropolis.
John Stewart Not every spike in ambient energy is a Bad Thing, but after the Phoenix incident, John takes no chances in investigating potential problem areas.

Especially with any kind of cosmic energy involved.

Truthfully, John wasn't that far away, being on the tail end of his patrol and heading back to his apartment.

Up in the sky, a small dot is visible to Hyperion. A Stationary dot that isn't Superman; no cape.
Hyperion     I mean, a small dot in the sky is practically point blank for Hyperion. That is if he was looking in that direction. Right now he is reassuring the civilian and turning to look over the park once more. Yeah, -he- has a cape. He's not magical. But powered and sustained by the ambient energy of the universe. Much like those 'Power Cosmic' celestial beings. But nowhere -near- their power level.

Every cell in his body absorbs, stores, and channels that energy wherever it is needed. He lifts up off the ground just a hair, giving a little salute to the people nearby. "Have a lovely evening folks." he says to the others in the area... preparing to head off to do some more patrolling of his own.
John Stewart As Hyperion heads off, the dot in the sky moves along with him. Apparently, John doesn't feel the need to intervene... yet... but he's definitely interested in observation before he rushes in.
