Owner Pose
Laura Kinney The Roost has far more levels than anyone might suspect if they looked at the outside of the building. And of those levels some are rarely visited even amongst the Outsiders. Who wants to dig through dusty storage facilities when they could be hanging out watching movies?

Laura Kinney that's who.

Tucked away in the stacks of the storage levels are some rather innocuous looking containers filled with equally mundane looking vials. But they don't contain poison, explosives or anything exotic. According to the markings it's ingredients for making perfume....
Conner Kent Conner descent to the deeps of the storage area (which is the size of... well, lets say Tim has money and likes to be prepared for everything) is caused by a very mundane situation. Batteries.

"Hey, Laura, do you know were are the new nickel-iron batteries? The batjet stealth drive was glitchy the other day. I am running diagnostics... well, I spare you," maybe it is not the typical mundane situation.

Also, Conner maybe the only one calling the team aircraft a batjet. "Pretty sure they are white boxes with black and blue lines in the middle."
Laura Kinney Laura Kinney pauses, turns and sniffs the air. There's a brief frown and she opens her mouth a fraction as if tasting the air. "Over that way," she declares pointing off in the direction with the strongest 'battery scent'. "At least I believe it's in that direction. I must admit I haven't memorized the location for them yet... But Tim tends to storage things in a logical order and that best fits the established pattern."

She takes out a selection of vials from the box she's looking at. From the dust it doesn't seem like anyone else has checked that container in quite some time.

"What would you say an uncommon scent for perfume is? It needs to be pleasant enough people won't really object to it but uncommon enough to be distinctive. Perhaps Oud oil?"
Conner Kent It happens Conner and Tim have different opinions of what 'logical' means. And probably he is the less logical one. But whatever... one can trusts Laura's nose. Right?

Maaaybe not in questions of perfume. "Wha... perfume? You?" He was pretty sure Laura was creating either a chemical weapon or some explosive. As usual.

Now he slides close to check what she is really up to. "Not the kind of question I expected, what are you up to? You should ask Megs, I think." Who else uses perfume in this team? "Maybe Tim."
Laura Kinney "I'm not going to be wearing it," Laura says flatly. "It's to plant on a target so I can tail them from further away. So it has to be pleasant but obscure, so it can't be an off the shelf product, and that way I'll be able to follow the exact route my target took without coming anywhere near."

She pauses for a moment then adds "My sources say they keep a telepath on retainer for security. Which seems a little bit risky for someone with sensitive intelligence but it presents challenges for discreet monitoring. Which I suppose is the point."
Conner Kent "You could use one of Harper's drones," suggests Conner as an alternative. Because marking someone with a unique scent seems overly complicated to him, seriously. "Or I guess you could find some perfume in the net that is not sold in the US and acquire it through some third party?"

He shrugs. "I thought you could track someone through their personal scent. Is this a robot person or something weird?"
Laura Kinney "Drones aren't really great for populated areas," Laura explains with a shrug. "They're likely to attract the wrong kind of attention. A police response or even just members of the public recording the drone would give the entire operation away."

She takes a few more vials out and puts some of the original selection back.

"It's a mutant with a shapeshifting power that allows them to mimic someone down to their scent. It makes tracking them unaided challenging even for me. Getting something premade from overseas could work, but it'll take time to have something ordered.... Unless I ask Bart to go fetch some, but it seems like such a waste of his abilities asking him to go fetch things.."

Her head tilts to one side. "I had assumed with the number of people you'd dated you would know a fair amount about perfumes.. But I suppose Hope isn't really the type for scents.."
Conner Kent "That is not your usual conversation topic, certainly not something Hope was interested at all, although I bet..." no, he is not going to ask MJ or anyone else about weird perfumes. Even though being in the spy business means MJ might have some idea.

"Nah, you are on your own here," he decides. "Or ask Tim, because he knows everything and probably Batman had him studying scents at some point."
Laura Kinney "I have a usual conversation topic?" Laura says, clearly confused. "Presumably it's largely related to operational matters? If so this qualifies as my usual topic of conversation... Just not one you expected from me."

She shrugs and begins filling a bag with vials.

"I'll just teach myself to mix perfume. It can't be that hard. I could just add droplets of things which I can track to the off the shelf brand the target usually wears and stop when it gets to a level I can detect it just barely. Then I'll know it can't be picked up by someone with a 'normal' sense of smell."

"You hesitated just now. I take it you're seeing someone new and were briefly considering asking them for advice. But the relationship must not be at a point where you can bring up your friends unusual requests. I trust things are going well? If not you may feel free to request that I call you during a date so you have an 'out'."
Conner Kent "No, I mean it is not the usual conversation topic with my dates." Points out Conner. He folds his arms when Laura goes about his usual conversation topic, but manages not to roll his eyes.

"I have been seeing a secret agent. Well, a couple dates, but I am not going to ask her, nope." Things are going weird in that side, that is also true. But he is not going to talk about it right now. "Yeah, sorry. No idea how to help you. I am going to test the new batteries. I hear they are far more efficient than the lithium ones, which I suspect have degraded way too early." Or maybe normal 'early' given what they are using for is pretty non-standard.
Laura Kinney "Oh. Yes I imagine it's probably not something which fits with your image," Laura agrees, looking Conner up and down. "Just be careful with the batteries. More advanced and unusual batteries tend to explode if something goes wrong. And while it won't hurt you it'll likely make a mess of everything you're working on."

"As I said. I'll mix something up and I'm sure it'll smell pleasing. If I have any left over you can give it to your date as a gift if you want. I can't imagine I'll have any use for it myself."

It really isn't something that interests her personally. Conner certainly called that one correctly!

"And do not worry. I won't try to vet your date without prior consent. I trust that you're taking suitable precautions to make sure they are not secretly evil." She nods to herself, then moves towards the elevator with her vials. "Enjoy your engineering project. I expect this perfume work will take me several hours. Maybe a few days."
