Vivian Vision It's Friday, early in the evening, and Central Park is filled with the usual mix of tourists, commuters, vendors and the exotic mix of locals. Nothing much seems out of place except for a bit of a commotion over by a group of people playing chess. Where a single teenage girl seems to be playing four of the parks chess hustlers at the same time. She's also winning, much to the dismay of her opponents.

To most people she seems perfectly ordinary with dyed green hair, pale skin and slightly eccentric taste in clothing. Of course anyone with enhanced senses can likely tell something isn't quite right. Perhaps it's that she's not stricly speaking Human or that her holographic disguise has a slight flicker. Or simply just that she moves in a way that's off, not breathing quite as often as she should or remaining unnaturally still.

It doesn't seem like anyone involved in the chess games can tell though. Or they probably wouldn't have put quite so much money on the table.
Johnny Blaze Vivian won't wake up Johnny Blaze's senses unless she's got magic in her and she doesn't so he doesn't. He still thinks it's strange, though, but he probably shouldn't judge. He's a middle aged drifted hanging around a public park. He's smoking, not a popular act in this day and age, an American Spirit dangling from the corner of his mouth, and he has an open Coors sitting on the picnic table next to him. Not far away, a large vintage Indian motorcycle stands at the ready.

A close look might reveal the shotgun sheathed along the side. The pistol grip makes it harder to detect.
Bart Allen Bart Alle and Mary Bromfield were just walking hand in hand through the park, both of them just walking and spending quality time together. With their superhero schedules and family times and actual money-to-hand work, these days were rare and they prided themselves in being able to still make this all work.

"So, have I told you how beautiful you are today?" Bart flirts with his girlfriend. He currently wears a red jacket with blue shorts and a white shirt with a yellow version of the Flash logo on it. Must be a fan of the Fastest Man Alive.

...or just Bart reppin' the speed force squad, as it were.

He does notice Johnny for a moment, tilting his head at the fellow but notices the shotgun at the side. But, he also notices Vivian, who seems much more friendly! "Hey Mary...you up for a game of chess?" he asks her curiously.
Mary Bromfield Mary grins over at Bart, "Only... about a dozen times or so, Bart, I think you're slipping." She winks, clearly enjoying spending time with him, and then he mentions chess.

And she sees the woman playing the four games at once, "Well, I'm not sure I'm in /that/ league, but I have a bit of game in the chess department."

Of course, if Johnny is looking for magic, Mary practically radiates potential magical energy. Maybe she's Mephisto or Dormammu in disguise! Well, maybe not quite that powerful, but she's definitely a focus for... /something/.
Vivian Vision The games Vivian is currently playing don't seem to last much longer. The first game ends in two moves, the second lasts four, the third struggles out for six turns and the last? He has the good sense to duck out while everyone is watching the other players struggle. Taking some, but not all of the money on the table with him.

For her part Vivian doesn't seem to mind. Nor does she seem to care about the winnings, handing most of it over to a hotdog vendor with a request that they give out the next two dozen or so hotdogs to people in need. People like Johnny, who obviously seems to be having a tough time in life.

Of course there's also that slightly off lack to her. She might not worry about the player sneaking off but she doesn't seem especially interested in her victories either. With all her games over she picks on of the chairs at random and sits down by one of the boards. Idly putting all the pieces back with a neatness that's frankly impossible.
Johnny Blaze Johnny Blaze has his eyes hidden behind sunglasses, but his head definitely swivels towards Mary. Not much he can do about that. She's radiating power and the power within him stirs a bit, the glasses obscuring the momentary coals burning in the depths of Johnny's pupils.

"No stain," he says and, indeed, Mary's aura is unblemished with the mark of innocent blood. Zarathos settles back into his soul, almost spitefully. The demon is hungry. He needs to find some sinners.
Bart Allen Bart pays closer attention to Vivian's intense chess skills. Frankly its impossible for how skilled she seems to be in this, but Bart seems to chuckle before looking at Mary. "Guess I am dropping the ball a little bit. So: your the most beautiful girl in the world." he chuckles a little bit more before he hums. "Thankfully, -I am-." remember how fast he is?

So, he leads her on over to Vivian where Bart greets her. "Hey there. Mind a new challenger or are you a bit busy?" he says with a bit of a smile.
Mary Bromfield Mary grins, letting Bart issue the challenge as she hangs back a bit to watch. Though, she does notice Johnny giving her the once-over, and looks curiously over at him. "Er, excuse me?" She looks down at her skirt, as... well, she didn't /think/ she spilled anything from lunch, but you never know!
Vivian Vision "Hello, I think I have time for a game. I would prefer not to play for money though," Vivian replies with a nod of her head. The board is all set up after all. "I am unsure if the activity is legal, which was why I agreed to play those gentlemen in the first place. Rather than waste police time it seemed more expediant to simply make them choose to leave..."

"My name is Vivian and you might be..?" she asks, glancing between Bart and Mary. "Oh you can pick if you wish to go first or second. You are the challenger after all."

Once the game gets in swing her plays are rapid, or at least they would be to anyone but a speedster, and have the same sort of logical precision and foreplanning you'd expect from a very powerful chess computer. And while there are very few outside signs hundreds of instances of Vivs mind fork off to explore the various plays available to her.
Johnny Blaze Johnny Blaze comes to take a look, finishing his cigarette with a long drag and carefully snuffing it between his fingers, dumping the butt in his pocket. At least he's not a litterer.

"Never had a head for this stuff. Too much tactics. I'm more a straight for the throat kind of guy," he says. He settles his hands carefully in the pockets of his jacket. These people are young, too young to recognize famed stunt rider Johnny Blaze. He's okay with that. Better they not see him this way.
Bart Allen Bart gives a watchful look at Johnny when Mary calls him out for apparently staring. Uh oh, does Bart gotta protect his woman?! But, when all seems safe and good, he turns his attention to Vivian. "Well, good for you, because I'm broke." Bart laughs.

"My name is Bart. Nice to meet you. Lets try to have a good game, yeah?" Though they are quick for her, to Bart it is like looking at the game in slow motion. He matches her quickness and to others, it looks like they already know the move before they even make it. But now, this looks like blitz chess when to them, they are just taking their time.
Mary Bromfield Mary grins a little bit at Blaze's comment about going for the throat, "Yeah, definitely. Chess is not really my forte, so I'll just spectate." She offers Vivian a warm smile, "And I'm Mary, pleased to meet you, Vivian. And /love/ your hair. That's such a great color for you." Nothing but genuine compliments from her.

Then she pauses, and looks over at Johnny Blaze, as if trying to place where she's seen him before. Something about him looks familiar...
Vivian Vision To those who can see through her holographic disguise the only difference between Vivians hair and her holographic hair is some slight adustments to make it seem like the work of dye. "They are less fond of it at my school I think," she replies earnestly. "But I do not believe there is anything in the rules which allows them to complain." A shrug. "Yes, a good game would be most welcome."

She was not expecting Bart to respond quite as quickly as he does. Her head tilts slightly to one side and she frowns for a moment. "And it seems it will be a quick game too." The number of virtual Vivians keeps going up as the game goes on. Some of which are looking up chess books online, others are debating strategy and a small minority are pointing out this activity is now consuming far more processing power than is appropriate for a game in the park.
Johnny Blaze Johnny Blaze is impressed, not so much by the abilities themselves, but by their openness. Vivian isn't hiding that she's something more than human. That she has no soul might disturb Johnny, except that he's seen plenty of things with souls far more horrific than anything without.

He feels Mary's eyes on him and gives a nod, pushing his long hair out of his face, his jawline still strong even if his face carries the years with him now. "Remind me not to try and play poker with this chick."
Bart Allen Bart hms for a moment as he looks at the plays that Vivian is doing and he somewhat hums for a second. "It seems that way." he notices that Vivian is going -fast- as they debate a strategy, its like Bart is up against a supercomputer. Man, this brings him back to the days of Legion of Superheroes Brainiac...or at least a version of him that survived Bart's future.they played all the time. But, he tilts his head a moment before he continues onwards.

Its not that he's ignoring Johnny and Mary....he's just REALLY focused.
Vivian Vision Strictly speaking Vivian is hiding she's not Human. It's just not a disguise that'll fool anyone with super powers. Nor is she aware of the existence of the soul. Maybe she'll earn one or maybe she won't, perhaps she does have one but it's claimed by a machine god too alien for Johnny to see. A mystery for another day.

Of course the play speed does seem a little to high paced for a normal game in the park. You'd have expected the pace to have caused at least a few errors by now but nothing major seems to have gone wrong for either player.

Given that Viv is perhaps cheating a little she may have a slight advantage, unless of course Bart's experience playing against machine minds and organic creativity win out. Viv is after all not running her emotions and focusing entirely on logic.

"You are much better than I expected. Do you play professionally?"
Mary Bromfield Mary watches intently, fascinated by the play of Bart and Viv as they go back and forth at the chess table, then she snaps her fingers.

"Hey, wait, I know who you are! You're Johnny Blaze, right? The stunt rider?" She grins, "My dad has a signed poster of you up at the house!" Well, someone actually did recognize him, but the burn of 'my dad is a fan' has to be... pretty brutal. Though it's clear that Mary had no idea that's how it might be taken, as she just looks pretty enthused to recognize him.
Johnny Blaze Viv's level of expertise seems inhuman to Johnny, but, then, he doesn't have a lot of knowledge about chess to judge. It just looks pretty damn complex and she and Bart are both going at it like champs. It's like watching a martial arts tournament - the top competitors shine and stand out because they move so much faster than the rest.

At being recognized, Johnny nods. He's used to being better known by dads and grandpas and cranky uncles than by young folks anymore. It's been twenty years since he was at his peak, at least as a pro rider. As for other kind of riders, well, nobody connected that with Johnny on the public stage.

"Tell your old man hi for me, then," he says. "I'd offer you somethin', but the only thing I got to sign is a pack of cigarettes and the flyer for a titty ba - I mean, an adult establishment back down the road a few towns back."
Bart Allen Bart turns his attention to Vivian for a brief moment as he hums. In fact, the game seems to be nearing a perfect match, though Vivian's AI mentality is proving a great assistance, Bart has quick-thinking and human creativity on his side. "No, I just played all the time for most of my life." Bart smiles, though he does turn his attention briefly to Mary and Johnny as they seem to be having a conversation. Just making sure Mary's alright.
Vivian Vision "Oh, well you should consider it. Playing professionally that is," Vivian says with a solem nod of her head. An increasing portion of her mental subdivisions are coming to the conclusion that playing to force a draw might be the only option. "I only started playing earlier this year. I've just spent a lot of my free time playing online when I have nothing better to do."

A solitary Viv instance raises the point that if she engaged her emotional core she could perhaps turn things around and is quickly shut down.

"Are you on a date?" Her head tilts in a nod towards Mary. "If so.. Well I would not wish to insult you by offering to concede so you looked good. But if you wish to call this a draw so you can resume your evening plans that would not be a problem for me.
Mary Bromfield Mary does blush at the mention of the adult establishment, then laughs a little nervously. Well, not nervously, but.. yeah, SUBJECT CHANGE, "Oh, that's alright. But he'll be thrilled to hear that I met you. Didn't realize you actually were in New York."

She then turns her head and looks over towards Bart and Viv still playing. And grins at the offer of a draw, "Well, considering how she's been playing Bart, that's a pretty solid offer for the draw..." She's actually looking a bit proud of the fact that Bart was able to force that concession.
Johnny Blaze Johnny Blaze nods, "I keep a move on. I run a circus, but I had some business out this way. Never been much to settle anywhere for long," he admits. "Glad somebody remembers, though. I didn't get to show much out this way. New York regulators ain't too keen on jumping motorcycles through rings of fire when you don't have the proper permits," he says. He paid a few too many fines back in the day, that's for sure.

After Viv's remark, he nods, "Young lady makes a point. I don't mean to interrupt. I'd get home before it gets dark, though. New York is never safe at night."
Bart Allen Subject changes are really good. Like....REALLY good in this instance.

He does look at Vivian with a smile. "Really? Ya think so? Well shucks, I might just have to join the chess club at my school. Though I wouldn't want to outclass all of the other kids. "But online version? I prefer the more physical version. Helps me think. The 'Bishop to C4' kind of playing really throws me off." he chuckles.

Truth be told, he could play the exact same way.

He does look back at Mary with a smile. "Yeah. We're kind of on a date, and I guess it was kind of mean of me to play." he chuckles, before he stands up. "We'll call it a draw. I'll play you again sometime soon." He looks at Johnny for a moment. "Oh, uh, I'm Bart. Who's your new friend?" he asks Mary.
Mary Bromfield Mary grins, "Oh, Bart, this is Johnny Blaze. He was a stunt driver back in the day, now he... runs a circus?" She smiles over at Johnny, "Wait, are they set up in New York right now? Are they going to be? My family loves going to the circus!" Heck, half the time it feels like a circus at the Vazquez house as it is!

Plus, the added benefit of getting her foster dad to meet Johnny Blaze? That would be pretty cool, too.
Vivian Vision Vivian Vision actually looks a little disappointed when Bart agrees to the draw. If a currently emotionless synthezoid can be said to look disappointed. Although this fades when the offer of a future game is made. "I will look forward to the rematch then," she assures. "Personally I find it's best to play with some limitation for school club purposes. Reduced number of pieces or with an arbitrary limit other than play time."

Now her mind is free some of those resources start looking up 'Johnny Blaze' and his circus. Although it's limited to publicly available sources so may come back with little to no information.

She gets up and nods to both of the spectators "It's a pleasure to meet you both."
Johnny Blaze Johnny Blaze pulls out his pack of cigarettes, shaking one out and putting it in his lips, "Pleased to meet ya both, kids," he says. He looks up at the horizon, "Sun's going down like I said. I got some work to do," he says.

The tip of his cigarette lights on its own and he exhales twin plumes of smoke through his nostrils.

"You seem like good wholesome kids. Glad to see the future ain't all shit," he says. He walks over and straddles his bike, igniting it with a flick of his wrist, the engine revving, "Keep your noses clean,' he shouts as his wheel peels out and he jets his way down the path out of the park.
Bart Allen Bart gives a little wave to Johnny as he seems to drive off into the sunset like the badass he is. "Wow, that guy is awesome." Bart mutters to himself. Though he looks at Mary as she talks up the circus, something that Bart has never -EVER- been to, and he smiles. Thats a date night put in the back pocket. Either way, he smiles as he moves back to Mary's side and intends to wrap an arm about her shoulders.

He looks then to Vivian as she speaks. "Likewise. Sorry for the lame finish, buuut I promised my lady I was all hers tonight and I mean to keep my promise. "THe pleasure was ours, Vivian."
Mary Bromfield Mary blinks, "Well, hey, if you're having fun playing her, I'm very happy to watch you. Especially if you wanted to do a rematch." She smiles over at Vivian, "Honestly, I want to know how you managed to get your hair that perfect shade of green." She twirls a finger through her own hair, "I've thought about coloring mine, but I'm just so afraid it would turn out badly."

She does accept the arm around her shoulders, though, as she looks at Bart, "Yeah, Mister Vazquez would talk about him all the time and stunts he pulled, back in the day. Pretty wild, some of that... can't imagine that they'd do anything like that these days."
Vivian Vision Vivian Vision frowns. "I was not aware anyone sold self lighting cigarettes," she muses aloud. "Still that is far from the strangest thing I have seen since coming to New York..." That award going to the sentient spatial anomoly. "My hair? Oh it has been this colour since I woke up a few months back." There's a moments pause. Practically an age compared to her chess playing speeds and then she adds "I attend a boarding school you see."

"Unfortunately I don't think a second game would have a different outcome. Not at this point in time anyway, I'll have to study more before a rematch."
Bart Allen Bart looks at Mary for a moment before he tilts his head. "Babe, are you sure?" Bart asks her in a bit of a lower voice, and awaits her answer. His attention then shifts on over to Vivian as she speaks about being at a boarding school. "Hey cool, so do I. Where do you attend, if you don't mind my asking?" Because Bart -ALSO- goes to a boarding school!

When Mary talks about Mister Vazquez's apparent fanboying of the Johnny Blaze brigade, he seems to chuckle. "Man, a signed poster? When he got that, he probably squealed." he chuckles.
Mary Bromfield Mary wrinkles her nose a little, then smiles, "Well, I'm okay with it, but if Vivian wants a little more time before the rematch..." She pauses, and looks curiously over at Vivian as well, "What school? I just started college at Empire State, so... working on a journalism degree."

She then flashes a grin at Bart, "It's framed in the hallway, I'm surprised he didn't insist on showing it to you when he let you in." She pauses as her phone buzzes with a message, then she grins, "Sorry, one sec. Marie just texted me something." Then she quickly works on a text response, as apparently Marie (?) needs some help with something...
Vivian Vision Vivian Vision tilts her head to one side. A few dozen Viv instances combing through her memories over the last few months. If she did attend the same school as Bart (which she does) then, despite being younger, there is a very significant chance they will have walked past each other at some point. It might be a big school, but it isn't that big. "Happy Harbour. And I am now going to predict this is also your school." It's not exactly a secret there are metahumans there and Bart does play /very/ quickly.

"Not that I have been a student there for long," she adds. "I don't believe I've even been in the state for a full six months yet."
