Matt Murdock It is late in the evening getting near to midnight. The exterior of Midtown Health Center has a lit sign in red and blue. About a third of the windows are showing lit as many of the patients are having the lights turned out for the light. An ambulance pulls up, lights flashing as the EMTs help out a heart attack victim. He's been revived but he'll definitely be getting an overnight stay.

Atop one corner of the building, Daredevil crouches. "Did anyone read that? Respond please?" he says into the communicator. Nothing but static. "Really need to get Daisy to steal us some SHIELD stuff," he says to himself. Joking. "Repeat, I am at Midtown Health Center. The witnesses of the Hand's assassination of the City Council member were brought here after their car was run off the road. And-" Daredevil pauses as he listens carefully. It was just the slightest sound. A scratching sound that most wouldn't have noticed if they were just a few feet from where the climbing claws had briefly scraped the outside of the hospital. "And I have more Hand who just showed up. Anyone who can assist, please do so," he says, before stowing the questionable communicator, unsure if it is being jammed or just is faulty.

Daredevil turns and runs to a doorway that leads down into the building. As he heads down the stairs, he pulls the fire alarm. Though it creates chaos, it should at least get the hospital security alert.

Down below, people in the waiting rooms who don't have emergency conditions are shooed outside. Pedestrians turning to look and see what is up. Anyone who looks up at the building might spot a trio of ninjas nearing the roof as they scale the outside of the building.
Illyana Rasputina Illyana doesn't typically deal with hospitals or law enforcement, as the record of mutant run-ins with cops can be wobbly at best. Her role in stopping an alien spaceship from further eating New York City doesn't translate into beat cops or detectives hanging out with her. Must be the Russian accent or the disquieting effect she has looking directly at people for too long.

But Midtown has excellent shopping, especially for random boutiques or sources for custom liqueur additives when you need a housewarming present. She loiters near the half-open doorway, letting all the warm air out into the street like a proper heathen. Holding two bags of awkward size requires some care and letting the redhead out first. For once, it's not Jean.

She then is in place to see a man go hustling past, holding his phone up with the typical iPhone app for voice recording and another phone, cheaper, with a broadcast band app that lets him listen in. Even worse, it's a journalist looking for a scoop. Chaos in a hospital will do that.

"Just like ambulance chasers," she insists to MJ, having no good opinion of them. "See? Why would you run straight to the hospital except to help? Two phones, this is never helpful. But we are the Watch, we should go be sure this is not another herald of damnation come to eat all of Manhattan again. Never again."

Next time, it can be Florida.
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson is over with Illyana, walking through the streets. Because she's wiht Illyana, she has the very, very large and nasty sword on her back that she's been given thanks to SHIELD's budget and Fitz's genius. Normally she wouldn't wear it out and about but because she's with Illyana no one is going to remotely want to maintain eye contact out of sheer terror. And because she's with Illyana there might be an actual chance to use it.

Mary Jane nods lightly, "Yeah. Attacking somewhere where people recover is.." Something that normally is considered below the curve.. Well, unless you're her current mental companion and her particular past take on morality. Mary Jane would listen to Magik and offer..

"Can you take us in there? Probably simpler than running all the way there." The Sonja part of her is assessing the area. Entry points, exit points, civilians, presence of security.. Other metas that might be going in. "Means we don't have to push ourselves through the crowds." Then, second priority.

"And teleport our bags back to your place." They don't want to risk all their hard earned clothes now on something as trivial as ninjas now, don't they?"
Caleb Dykstra Caleb is at the hospital, having stayed a couple of nights after being treated for injuries in a recent event - such an event being, mind you, a run-in with a local gang. Now, three against one isn't really fair, but that's where knives and guns come in - they're fine deterrents, even when you shoot at kneecaps. Then you bolt out of there, dump the gun, and go to the hospital, claiming you've been robbed - so no legal ID, and then, when no-one's looking, you bolt. Simple enough.

And he's just starting to do that, having collected his things. Reaching the stairwell, he looks down, and sighs. Did they really have to put him at the top floor?

But anyways, he starts to pace stairs when...

Fire alarm? Well, that's not gonna be helpful, not when the hospital is now put on a state of high alert - and not to mention people are gonna start invading the stairs in no-time, so he better hurry. But, as he goes around the corner... Ninjas. Why are there ninjas coming up the stairs, now?

"Uhm... hi there!", he looks at them, wondering if he's dreaming, "what martial arts flick did you crawl out of?"
Matt Murdock Daredevil knows if he's spotted the ninjas climbing the outside of the building, there are going to be even more entering in other ways. They know Daredevil was involved when he saved the family at the crash, if having been too late to save the City Councilman. Using underground tunnels between buildings, coming in disguised as staff or patients, the Hand will get inside. Daredevil knows he'd better get down there and quickly.

The vigilante jumps over the stairwell railing, falling two stories before grabbing hold of the railing there to arrest his fall. He lithely flips over the rail back onto the stairs and lands beside Caleb. Daredevil grabs Caleb's shoulder, opening the door and shoving him through as the two ninjas spot him and charge up the stairs. Daredevil pulls the door closed behind them, then grabs a chair and uses a metal leg to bar the door.

"Come on, you need to get out of here," he says, pushing Caleb ahead. "They are here to kill someone." In the hallway, the staff are hurrying about, looking for signs of the fire, and preparing patients should they need to be moved. A number of visitors and mobile patients are standing about, unsure what to do.

Seeing Daredevil and Caleb jogging down the hall doesn't help the chaos. A security guard sees the costumed vigilante and moves to intercept, but Daredevil raises a hand. "Ninjas are here to kill some patients on this floor. Need you to clear out everyone you can. Do not engage them, they will not hesitate to kill."

The security guard gulps and comes to a quick decision. "So there's no fire?"

Daredevil shakes his head as he starts forward again, the guard following. "No, I pulled it to get the alarm out."

"Ok, I'll evacuate the floor," he says. He gets on his radio while Daredevil jogs past, only to be met by a familiar nurse just up the hall.

"What is going on!?" Claire Temple asks in a furious whisper. Her eyes go to Caleb.

"The Hand has come for the family whose father is in room 1403," he tells her. "Going to need you to get them out, I don't have any backup so I need you to be the one to move them while I cover you," he tells her.

Claire curses softly under her breath, though she knows not softly enough that Daredevil won't hear it. "Seriously can't we go an entire week without..." she mumbles before trailing off as she heads down the corridor towards the room. "I'm going to need help to move him, especially if the elevator is out of the question. He's got both legs in casts." She looks over at Caleb. "Can you help me carry him?"

As they reach the room, a pair of ninjas step around a corner down the hallway, Daredevil striding to move between them, and Claire and Caleb.

Meanwhile, downstairs a pair of men are entering the hospital against the flow of those evacuating. A security guard moves over to stop them. "There's a fire, can't go-" he says, before one of them steps close, a hand pressing to the guard's chest. Hiding the blade that extends from his sleeve to stab the guard precisely in the heart. The two of them grab hold of the guard and walk him out of the way like they are helping him. Though a child of about ten sees some blood on the guard and screams, possibly alerting others in the area to what is going on.
Illyana Rasputina No one much enjoys the unexpected layover always required when flying Aeromagik. But better than Aeroflot, the Il-21+ doesn't tend to crash land outside Sheremetyevo or on approach at Magnitogorsk. Surly pilots and barebones comforts contrast rather poorly with hordes of demons obsessed with the Great British Bake Off, eager to pair someone with a mirror glaze.

"Crowds move when you need them to," the blonde sorceress says. She has presence of mind enough to round the intersection after leaving the store, the stop to tighten the laces on her boots sufficient to banish the two oblong bags. MJ's bags will similarly be tugged on by a portal that wants to eat her arm, though not really. When she straightens back up they simply aren't there, and stranger things happen all the time.

"Big campus. ER is not good, too many cameras. You get me a map of it on your phone, I steer us closer until I have a good point on the jump."

In the meantime, she plows her path up the sidewalk, if need be pulling on MJ's arm occasionally to steer her around hazards like potholes and neophyte journalists trying to get their big scoop. The less of them, the better.

Sooner or later the pair will either encounter ninjas or end up spilling into a hospital, probably alarming some poor nurse or terrorizing the average sneaky, sneaky murderbot serving the Hand.

Once the target is a lock, they end up squarely in the building, and a screaming child is something like evil catnip to the Demon Queen.
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane is along with Illyana and she notes, "Yes, but that doesn't mean that we want to add to the chaos. It means that you're not generating the screams yourself. Better to get the fun in rather than rely on someone else's." As Illyana goes to speak, Mary Jane closes her eyes. "Got it."
A quick twitch of her phone has her scrolling for a few seconds, accessing the layout. Pictures are accessed next as she memorizes them, plotting the best way to breach and clear and where pockets of people might be.
"I can visualize easy enough if you can.." Then of course as the two end up in the building they're in the midst of the action. Mary Jane goes to unsheathe her sword over and there's a switch in her posture. She tenses, hunching over some as her frame would go to full alert. Grinning madly. "I've not had time to slack my thirst in awhile." Two handed sword pulled out and in front of her as Illyana brings them in.
And there are three ninjas facing them as soon as they arrive and barely before she's had time to draw it out. "Come freaks! To the pit with you! And scream to let them know Sonja has sent you there!" There are none of the restraints on her that Mary Jane normally enforces. NOne of the fierce clamps that lock away so much of her. In green eyes there is bloodlust and glee as she's unshackled.
And Sonja charges through the group. One of the ninjas is going to flank her, moving to attack her with some sort of energy burst that she dodges under. A third is leaping through the air to strike her with a flattened rather than curved katana. The third goes at her over wiht a poleaxe.
Mary Jane ducks under the energy burst, going to a tuck and roll over to evade the poleaxe strike, and draws her blade upwards quickly to block the katana strike as the impact from her blade causes the katana to ricochet off it, chipping the hardened steel!
Caleb Dykstra The next few moments are all a blur as apparently another ninja on the side of the good guys drags him away from the path of the evil ninjas. Then, he hears something about them coming to kill someone, "Wait, kill someone?" Surely it couldn't be him, could it? Have his actions beyond Gotham attracted the attention of the Yakuza or the Triads; it can't be, he's just your low-level street seller. Could he be a message to his 'Boss', Vittorelli?

Not much time to worry about it now. He follows the 'good ninja guy'.

When he reaches the nurse, he curses to himself (though Daredevil is likely to hear it), and he shrugs, "Don't ask me, lady... I just found that ninjas exist outside of the movies!"

He hears Daredevil's explanation, and his heart relaxes - okay, so it's not him they're after. Good.

No, it's another family altogether. "Crap..." He's got a family himself too, after all, so that's when his protective instincts kick in, and he strives to rise to the occasion. Looking at the vigilante, "Okay, so... I dunno much about martial arts, but you can count me in."
Matt Murdock "Just help the nurse get the family out, don't engage them if you can help," Daredevil says. He strides only a few steps to meet the ninjas so they don't lure him away from guarding room 1403.

Claire motions Caleb to follow her into the room. Inside is an older man, his face bruised up badly from his airbag deploying. The car must have been crushed somewhat because his legs are in cast, one full-leg cast and one that is just below the knee down to his foot. There is also a woman in there, as well as a boy of about 13 and a girl of maybe 11. The woman looks nervous and asks, "What's going on!?"

Claire Temple tells her, "Someone is here after your family, because of what you saw. There's a hero, the Devil of Hell's Kitchen that is here to stop them. He's going to cover us, we need to get your husband down the stairwell where we can get you all into a police car."

Claire looks at Caleb. "There should be a wheelchair by the nurse's desk in the hall. Why don't you grab it? Might be easier even going down the stairs if we lower him slowly." Down fourteen flights.

If Caleb looks back into the hall, he'll find one of the ninjas is down. The other has a sword that is flashing in the light as he attacks Daredevil, who has a pair of short metal sticks in hand he is parrying with.
Illyana Rasputina The day started off so promisingly. The evening fulfills the offer, and who is Illyana to deny what the world unrolls at her very normal, human-shaped feet? That pedicure deserves to accent fate's intentions.

She turns to face the swarm of confused patients, from weary grandma using the hospital as her GP to the guy stuck waiting two hours for a blood draw in the lab. Most of them will go right the other way when a woman with an actual pointy sword shouts at unknown men to come attack her. 'Sonja' is batty and therefore reason to flee.

The Demon Queen isn't pulling out anything, at least not immediately. She strides forward into the fracas with a cool, decidedly chilly confidence that bears down on the unsuspecting like a freight train. Momentum pushes on the inevitable, no need to run when MJ is surrounded. Mary Jane is not a person who needs to be protected from everything, just some things.

Energy weapons count as a something, especially as her hands move in suggestive, elegant movements. They barely make a sound, of course, but the outcome is a shimmering angled wall of force - a magic cowcatcher, if you will. It sweeps forward rather high off the ground, suitable to knock someone in the midsection and send them flying off their feet.
Mary Jane Watson And Red Sonja goes in for the attack. An upstroke through the air has her managing to strike the ninja with the cracked katana through the upper shoulder, cutting his arm about half off. She follows it wiht an elbow to his jaw that shatters it, then going for a stomp over to his pelvis with her knee that cracks it like an egg and sends him toppling.
A quick spin has her faceing off against hte attacker with the poleaxe, her on the defensive as the strikes would drive her backwards, the greater range of the weapon and the surprising speed of the mystically enhanced ninja having her on the defensive as the polearm has her quickly retreating. Sonja grins merrily at the fight, even as the second one over with the chi abilities would suddenly vanish over in to smoke.. THen appearing behind her and slamming a dagger over in to her side that would send her flying to the wall, blade embedded up to the hilt in her!
Caleb Dykstra The teenager looks at Claire, "Nurse, trust me when I tell you, the stairs are not going to be an option." He was just about to go down the stairs when he bumped into a couple of them, after all. "Fourteen stories is going to be an eternity against swords, shurikens and whatnot", he looks at the kids, seeing what state they're in, and looks at the nurse once again. "If we can get to the medical cabinets, we could work out some chemistry to put some of them out of commission." It's a long shot, but they need weapons.
Matt Murdock Claire motions towards the hallway and the sound of the metal batons hitting against the katana. "He's the weapon. But if you think there's something you can grab that will help, go for it," she tells Caleb. "I don't relish the thought of the elevator cable getting cut while we're in it though, which leaves the stairs."

She retrieves the wheelchair, bringing it over to skillfully move the injured older man into it. Out in the hallway there is a cry and then a ninja goes sliding past as if he was thrown. Daredevil goes past the doorway in the midst of a flip that somersaults him once before bringing his foot down onto the ninja's head to knock him out.

"Floor is clear for the moment, but we need to move before they can close in on us," he says.
Illyana Rasputina Somewhere, a girl screamed. Illyana has no idea where, but that does not matter overly much when the pile of ninjas trying to keep the ground floors more chaotic and disorderly keep multiplying like political ads every two years.

She flicks her wrist and that sweep of magic shoves another of the Hand ninjas out of the way. Nothing like flinging someone airborne, letting them land uncomfortably and if that goes wonky, she withdraws the force back to herself. It certainly makes tidying her apartment much faster, just on a larger scale.

But magic only goes so far; truly, the better option comes sliding out of the recesses of her broken soul or the unknown quantities of space. The Soulsword incandesces to life the moment it reaches her hand, giving the katanas and chi blades a probable cause to feel small and unremarkable by comparison. As it should be.

Time for her to swerve and bounce as she cuts a path for the stairs. "You know where they come from? We should be looking for more."
Mary Jane Watson Going to hit against the wall, Red Sonja is just as rapidly back up on her feet. Where the ninja with the polearm goes to charge at her, this time she goes to duck down to the right, and slashes her blade up and across. She goes to skewer him right through the ribcage, lashing it up and over through his lung, twisting it to gogue through the heart an dsnapping it away. This is accompanied by a followup over of the one that had skewered her wiht a knife as he attacks her once more, at too close a range for her to use her sword. She backpedals, even as he keeps on hte offensive as she withdraws, having no chance to bring her own blade up. The attack goes on..
As she counters, snapping her wrist down to the blade in her gut, where she moves to slash it out, jab it over into the torso of the ninja, twist it and snapped the blade off the hilt to leave it nice and embedded, a kick going to fling him across the floor. She sneers morbidly..
Right then as two of the Hand soldiers that had been cut down in the melee would suddenly have their eyes open, snap back to their feet in tight backflips, and go to once more draw out weapons!
Caleb Dykstra "One man's the weapon?", he comments to Claire, unbelieving, "Against just exactly how many?" It's clear that he has no idea in hell who Daredevil is.

"We should get to some hospital supplies or lab equipments", Caleb tells Daredevil. "If we can get our hands on some hydrochloric or sulphuric acid, we could create some smoke or tear gas for them. Get the right ingredients, and we can get flash grenades or cause a localized fire." He starts looking around for some medical stuff. "We're going to need some weapons. Syringes, scalpels." He lets Daredevil and Claire consider that option for a few seconds, then adding. "Take down as many as we can, and we open a path."
Matt Murdock "Fire is out, there are still patients," Daredevil says. He motions to Claire and the family to follow out into the hall. "If you can whip something up to blind them that could be helpful," he says. Of the people there, only Claire would also get the bit of synergy such an attack would have paired with Daredevil. "Though they are also trained to fight in the dark so don't assume it'll be too much edge."

He motions and the group starts down the hallway, which is currently empty other than a couple of people peeking out of doors. They saw the ninja fight, and at Daredevil's costume they quickly shut the doors again, some of them trying to barricade them as best they can.

They make it down to a corner. Claire says, "Best you're going to do is there, be fast," she says, unlocking a door to a room that has medical equipment in it for Caleb to try to whip something up with.
Illyana Rasputina So much for asking Sonja-driven MJ if she wants to go up the stairs. Illyana pauses to look back at the woman and her foes, then glances upwards to see if anyone advances in spite of hearing all the noise. Her thumb traces over the crossguard of the blade, and then a corresponding portal opens in silver-etched fire that blazes an unnatural cobalt otherwise beneath the unfortunate Hand ninja who thought to get back up.

He might be wisely regretting that choice when he's arbitrarily dropped in the middle of a moderate security prison in Japan. Because these are the sorts of places you need to know when Doctor Strange keeps insisting on non-lethal methods. Very well, then. She can play that game, and that means carrying on with aplomb up the stairs to the next floor. Stealth is not a bad thing, but Hand soldiers and thugs simply can outdo her on that front if they really want to. Being soundless is hardly worthwhile when her next task is clearing a hallway so MJ can ascend or any patients can flee safely. Being the girl with the Jedi sword? Useful.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" she calls, not that far removed from when that was a fun game. Better than Red Rover. Hide-and-seek becomes Sword Tag awfully quick, though.
Mary Jane Watson The enemies not staying down once they were skewered was a surprise, but something she had run into many times - as Sonja and Mary Jane. So this time, as Sonja wades over into the fighting her dismemberment is somewhat more thorough as she goes to skewer through both of them fully,s lashing them to bits before going over to each of the other bodies in the room, moving to hack them apart bit by bit. There's a few moments before she's coming along to catchup with Illyana, muttering, "Does taking their heads off make this simpler?" Or is that the sort of thing that is frowned upon in a hospital? Never mind she had left several bodies behind her that looked like a child had taken toys and banged them together while play fighting until they had broken apart.
Caleb Dykstra "They gotta breathe, right?", Caleb says, a smile creeping up to his lips as his opinion is heard. "Make something that irrtitates the lungs and eyes right out, cover bystanders' noses with water-soaked blankets or towels and goggles for the eyes. A spare respirator, if you can." He adds, "Choke them, and you got a seriously crippling effect."

Seriously - where did a kid get all this stuff from?

He starts to rummage through equipment - respirators for the family, chemical solutions for cleaning. "We need containers... Ah-ha!" He goes for the goblets. He comments to the group, "Improvised grenades, smoke bombs..."

Searching some more in other places, he looks at the concentrated gas cannisters. "A steady supply of oxygen for outlasting these guys." He takes a deep breath, and starts passing around the equipment. "If we had the time to distill some of these ingredients, we could have more potent stuff and have better odds." He looks at the vents, and looks at Claire, "Nurse...", looks at the nametag, "Claire, you ever seen 'Aliens'?" He grabs some duct tape that he took from the janitor's closet, and readies a few long strips. He opens up a vent, and throws a flask inside, hoping that the ventilation will do the rest. And he hurries to seal the vent of the room they're in.
Matt Murdock The gas spreads, enough to affect the floor they are on and the ones below and above, if not going all the way down to the bottom. There's a sound of coughing from on the floor, and Daredevil puts a finger to his lips and slips out the door.

Soon after there's the sound of a heavy object, like a person, hitting something, like a vending machine which falls over on him. Then Daredevil is back to the door. "Alright, let's make our move. We need to get him down and to the police so they can stow him somewhere safer," he says. He motions and Clare gets behind the wheelchair to push him.

Daredevil offers Caleb one of his batons. "Last resort, you don't want to fight them hand to hand," he says as he offers it, before they head for the stairwell.
Illyana Rasputina "They do not like us killing people. Sometimes we do not get the luxury of choosing." Though when they do, well, the goodie-two-shoes always make such a fuss about leaving people alive or not wasting resources. Illyana turns the Soulsword edge on, and its incandescent, blinding substance can both repel katanas clashing with it, and pass through flesh like nothing. Unlike the Xavier's Institute fencing lessons, however, she spares no mental effort to dampen the pain. Torment in Limbo inflicted on a child's innocent and radically pure soul radiates right back through anyone touched by it.

The average mook tends to do rather badly when run through or tapped by a few inches jabbed in. She doesn't hesitate to slash broadly as the moment allows, the lengthier contact sufficient to render the first target or two in awful spasms of discomfort. MJ is free to hack her way through or carry on, as if the two of them have a counting contest.

Illyana will tell anyone flatout she's Legolas.
Mary Jane Watson So long as they're around children, Red Sonja restrains herself. A child does not need to be exposed on the altar of bloodbath and trauma. At least, not unless there are no other choices. With Illyana, they do not need to have that be a needed thing. So now Red Sonja is moving to match up with Illyana, guarding her flank. Her strikes are more precise, more controlled.
Sonja has gotten to sate her bloodlust and her rage for just a short time, so her berserker state is satisfied for now and she willingly cedes more of herself over to the soothing of her host.
The transition is easier now, with Sonja willingly allowing hte restrictions rather than having to be at a razor's edge to balance them. Her motions are precise, a mirror, with the occaisonal quick strike.
Caleb Dykstra Caleb Dykstra takes one of DD's batons, and nods. "Got a family back in Gotham. They're in kinda the same situation as they are", he says, nodding in the family's direction, but keeping his voice down so they won't hear. "I don't know how high a moral you got, but I'm giving my all and whole to see mine again." In other words, he will take them down and make sure they stay that way.

They're the one thing he would kill for - he has, in the past.

He looks at the family and Claire, voice kept as low as possible so they can hear. "Alright, this is it! Keep those masks on, people. These fumes are toxic."

And he follows after the vigilante.
Matt Murdock There's only one ninja left on the upper stairwell, the others having been overcome by the gas from the vents. As Daredevil cautiously opens the door, he hears the creak of ligaments and... catgut? and rapidly pulls the door closed just in time to stop the arrow that is fired their way.

He immediately rushes through, leaping across the open space that the stairs circle and coming down on the ninja. The two struggle as they roll down a flight of stairs, throwing punches, elbows and knees. Claire pushes the wheelchair into the stairwell, and the injured man's wife helps her lower it in a controlled way down the flight of stairs.

The next landing down, Daredevil finally rises, his lip bloodied at the corner. The ninja stays down. Matt mumbles under his breath, "Yeah, Daisy's going to be unhappy again," as he rubs at the shot he took in the mouth.
Mary Jane Watson Flanking along after Illyana, Red Sonja's moves are quick and precise. A boot here, a kick there.. Then she looks up and over ot the fire suppression system as the wto make their way forwards. It's not gone off despite the brawling.. So she ponders for a moment. Then she moves to push her fist into the wall, tearing off a solid chunk of metal from a frame and throws it up at the sprinkler nozzel.

Water is now streaming along on the floor, which wouldn't slow up either woman.. But would make it rather difficult for ninjas to swarm them!
Caleb Dykstra The descent to the ground floor seems to be going pretty well, and Caleb gives himself a pat on the back for a well-implemented idea. He doesn't dare to make any comments until they reach the ground floor, though, in case he might jinx it.

But apparently, you even speak too soon when you pose, because, just as he's passing through the stairwell door on one of the lower floors, one of those ninjas - maybe one of the last few - rams the door open, brandishing the traditional sword.

Now, you have to factor in that he's disoriented and weakened from those fumes, and is likely not seeing properly, so the reaction time is slower than usual. Still, a ninja is a trained assassin - and Caleb, for whatever smarts, has never faced these guys before.

Sum it all up, and fate provides him a fraction of a secnd to dodge the incoming blade with Daredevil's baton... But not avoiding the path of an elbow right to his bad ribs, victimized by a bullet he took while shielding his sister from a shot meant for her.

He gasps, and loses his breath - but not his nerve. And certainly not his enduring spirit.

He clenches his teeth, a mask of rage creeping up to his face, and throws the ninja down the stairwell, all the force he used making him fall as well!

Now, both free falling, he curls up into phoetal while grabbing his opponent...

*THUDCRACK!!*

The end result is one splattered ninja, one that cushioned - if you can call that cushioning - the teen from the same fate.

"GAH...!!", Caleb exhales from that impact. "Sonuva..." He stumbles as he tries to get up, and grabs the fallen assassin's blade to use as a cane. "My sword now, fotherfucker..."

Whoever said this was a good idea... They lied!
Matt Murdock There are a few more attempts made on the way down the stairs, though Daredevil is frequently responding to them before the others in the stairwell know they are there.

The vigilante turns back from one of the Hand ninjas who was armed with a chain and attached blade, hearing someone coming but out of position to stop him. Caleb steps up, downing the gas-affected ninja, and without getting stabbed. Which is far better than many who have gone up against them can say!

They reach the bottom, where police cars have responded if just to the fire alarm. The group take the family over. "They need police custody. This related to the assassination of the Councilman," Daredevil tells them. Once he's clear of the scene, he'll be putting in a call to help make sure a cop that he trusts is part of keeping an eye on them.

Too many witnesses in Hells Kitchen have gone missing the last year.

Daredevil turns back to Caleb and Claire. "Thank you for your help, both of you," he says. He starts to say more but Claire holds up a hand. "I'll take a look at him," she says of the hit Caleb took to his ribs.

Daredevil notes the downed ninjas in the lower floor. He can't stick around, those cops may start taking too much of an interest in him, so he's left unsure of the identities of MJ and Illyana as having handled things down here.

When people look over for him, they find the vigilante has vanished.

Claire sighs and shakes her head. "Typical. Come on, let's get a look at your ribs."
