Jonathan Powers Mulberry Street was considered one of the most famous throughfaires in NYCs. Once the heart of Little Italy, the streets Italian-American heritage was still present, but not as obvious as it used to be. Everyday it was used by thousands of cars and pedestrians going and coming from whatever it was they had to do, making it a perfect place for a supervillain attack, or a prank or two, as one Kitty Pryde would see today.

A Hotdog Vendor had been making quite a bit of money today, and he happened to be in a jolly mood. Though, leaving his cart unattended for a minute to go to the bathroom was... foolish to say the least. As the man returned to his stand he opened the condiment tray in his cart to swap out the Saurkraut tray he was suddenly greeted by a grayish gas. The man began coughing up a storm, before suddenly breaking down in fit of uncontrollable laughter, being followed closely by a random yuppie and a police man, all of whom followed the vendor in a chrous of pained laughter and spasms as they began to fall to the ground, rolling around in as if in great mirth.
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde had been planning to work through lunch, when one of her coworkers, Sarah, stopped to see if she wanted to go and grab a bite. Kitty hesitated, looking to her computer and mentally gauging how much more she has to go on the APIs she is working on. "Alright, I should probably eat something," she agrees, grinning to Sarah and then rising, grabbing her jacket from where it hangs on a hook.

The two women head down the elevator and emerge from Stark Tower. "I know a place," Sarah says, motioning off in what it turns out is the direction of Mulberry street. "Great chicken. They have some nice desserts too," she tells Kitty.

The Jewish girl smiles over at the strawberry blond. "Chicken sounds great," she says. Kitty tosses her scarf about her neck, wrapping it once for warmth, and her hands go into her pockets as the two women head down the New York sidewalks.
Jonathan Powers As you and your friend got closer and closer to Mulberry Street you would begin to notice something off. There was laughter in the air, a lot of laughter. This wasn't a singular laught either, it sounded almost like a chrous of mirth and joy filling the ambience of NYC. Eventually you come upon Mullberry and get greeted by the Vendor, Yuppie, and Cop, all of whom are laughing themselves silly and were now joined by a Jogger, Basketball Player, and what looked like a county health inspector. All of them were enveloped in a mysterious grey gas that was pouring out of the cart, and drifting lazily toward you.

At the same time, at the very restaurant you were going too, a cacaphony of screaming filled the air as restaurant patrons and staff fled out of the building, being followed by a tidal wave of popcorn that exploded out the front door. At the same time of this bubble foam began to ooze out of every sewer grate in the street, and onto the main roads, causing drives to swerve, spin-out, or even crash. One of said cars, a fast going Mustang span out of control and was barreling towards you.
Kitty Pryde Sarah stood, dismayed by the sight of all the people laughing, and that cloud of gas spreading through the air. "What's going on?" she asks aloud.

Kitty Pryde reacts much more quickly. "The gas, we need to get away from it, we're downwind right-" Kitty replies to Sarah, already reaching over to grab her shoulder and start guiding her off to the side.

That's when both girls see the careening car, still traveling at speed as it loses control and heads right for them on the curb. Sarah lets out a scream and freezes, though Kitty is already pushing her coworker ahead of her.

It looks like the car is going to just miss Sarah, but clip the brunette. Only the car barrels past seemingly without hitting the Jewish girl. The car runs into a parking meter that finally halts it, the airbag deploying.

"Go, get away from the gas and call 911. I'll get the driver," Kitty says, shoving Sarah to keep her moving.
Jonathan Powers As you rush to the car, the door suddenly opens and a man stumbles out, dropping his briefcase in the process. The man, a tall, gaunt, and very pale fellow clad in a business suit and black shoes goes to pick up the case, when it suddenly pops open on it's own, revealing a little Jester-themed action figure. The man grunts in confusion and picks it up, and the toy immediatley begins laughing and opens it's mouth wide and sprays out more of that gray gas. The man gasps and begins letting out choked, gasping noises that quickly get replaced by deep, baritone gaffaws as the man falls to the ground hard, and begins to laugh hard, occasionally spasming.

By now Mullberry Street was in total chaos. The street were filled with popcorn, suds, and wrecked cars as the gas continued to spread further, causing more people to fall into it's laughing spell. Then, that's when the firecrackers started. It started with one bang, then two, then five as every postal box in the area began to explode into a minature 4th of July show.
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde hears the hiss of gas and jumps backwards. She pulls her scarf up to cover her mouth and nose, though retreats before the spreading cloud.

Once Kitty has put a little space between herself and the grey mist, she looks about, seeing Sarah has made it well up a side street. Kitty pulls out her phone as she looks about for ideas on how to deal with the gas.

"There's the steam pipes," she murmurs to herself. New York having a heating system that pumps steam to buildings in the winter that passes up through those old fashioned radiators to heat them. "Though that would scald everyone."

Her eyes fall on one of the subway grates. The bane of New Yorkers and tourists, the bars are often wide enough to lets a set of keys fall through, or even a dropped phone if one is fully unlucky. Providing ventilation down to the subway system, passing trains force air up and out of them.

Kitty keeps backing away while she begins hacking into the New York Transit Authority. She mumbles to herself, "Would have helped if Pepper hadn't gotten that account closed down." Referring to an account Kitty used to hack some of the city's electric regulation software, which she did to help Stark hook up a green energy initiative in Bushwick. An act, that once JARVIS tracked her down, led to an offer of the job at Stark that Kitty was working today.
