Owner Pose
Matt Murdock Danny had gotten the ball rolling reaching out about a potential new member of the team. The Defenders were a loose group and there wasn't exactly an application form or a background check besides whatever snooping Jessica was bound to do about any new member, but the tradition was they had to meet at least some of the team to let people get a feel for them before they were brought into things more fully.

That meeting was usually held at Fogwell's Gym, after the place had cleared out for the night, allowing folks to come in costume if they wanted, and Matt definitely wanted that layer of protection. He might be willing to welcome new people to the Defenders but it usually took a bit for him to warm up enough to share his civilian ID with new people.

So at appointed hour when the team was set to meet the Black Canary, Daredevil is waiting by the ring, wearing his horned suit, arms crossed leaning against the ring in the center of the room.
Danny Rand Danny Rand had made the call about bringing Canary into the Defenders after she had earned his trust both in and out of the costume life. So, Danny Rand had taken on his garb of the Immortal Iron Fist, the dark green and yellow inlaid slim battle gear with the classic yellow mask-headband covering his features and protecting his identity.

He had told Black Canary of the meeting point with the most secret and sacred forms of communication: Text Messaging.

With that finished, he intended to meet Black Canary about half-way to Fogwell's and bring her a little up to speed on what to expect. "So...Daredevil can be a little aggessive and intimidating, but I promise he's a nice guy. You'll like the group, I promise."

For once though, Danny will open the door to Fogwell's rather than being dramatic and entering through the rooftop window.

"Welcome to Fogwell's." But he sends a nod Matt's way as he walks over to the boxing ring.
Dinah Lance Dinah Lance meets Danny and together they travel to the gym. When Danny enters, there's a blonde walking beside him. Black bodysuit and fishnet stockings, she looks more like a Playboy bunny (minus ears and tail) with a mask. That, combined with her breathtaking 5 and a half foot height, certainly reduces her intimidation factor.

Canary nods slowly while Danny talks. "It certainly sounds like a colorful group, at least." she offers. Her jacket is open, gloved hands free. And when Danny holds the door she steps right in.
Colleen Wing The text had come through. Come down to Fogwell's Gym, the Defenders were looking to bring in a new member. There were no details on who, but Colleen was going to try and make it a priority to be there. Thus, dressed in what look to be plain street clothes, a pair of jeans, her red converse shoes she is usually seen out and about in, and her red jacket, the young woman enters the gym with a Starbucks coffee in hand. Upon entering in seeing those already gathered in what appears to be their respective costumes, Colleen looks down at her self, a small nibble to her lip and then shrugs, murmuring to herself. "Yeah..all I got.

Slowly she begins to make her way over to the ring, raising the coffee cup in a gesture of greeting and to announce in a quiet manner that yes..she has arrived. A quick survey of the figures and she immediatley recognizes Matt and Danny, but her eyes linger a moment longer on who must be the new recruit. The costumed figure is not initially recognized, but there is something about what she is wearing that she swears she has seen before. She moves to take a seat by the ring, taking a small sip. She was instructed to be here, but beyond a meet and greet, everything else was unclear.
Jessica Jones Jessica is naturally the late arrival in this case, as is most often the case, usually because she's busy with this case or that. But also because she's been nursing a drink and couldn't be bothered to leave before she finished the whole bottle. After all, Gym based meetings mean not much chance to drink for a while. That could put her in a dangerously sober state.

As soon as she walks in, before she even said her first hello to anyone, Jessica has her eyes set on Dinah in her getup, "so that's your friend, Danny? Captain Stripper was it? Or is it Stripperella?"
Matt Murdock Matt of course hears everything Danny and Dinah are saying out in the hall. As a matter of fact, Matt does tend to come across aggressive in these first meetings, helps rattle the prospects and let his hearing tune in on any physical reactions they might have under stress.

So there's no smile from Daredevil even when Jessica gets going with the nicknames for Dinah, just a nod and a long searching 'look' his eyes shielded by the red lenses of his mask. "So, this is your friend the Black Canary?" he asks Danny. "How about you tell us a little about her."

Colleen's arrival is met with a nod but nothing more than that for now. He's got a role to play after all.
Danny Rand Danny chuckles a little bit to Dinah when she speaks of how colorful the group is. "Oh, you have no idea. If Jessica's hear, be prepared for a hazing. She'll probably respect you if you give back whats given, if you catch my drift." AKA give her a sick burn or two.

As he walks in after Dinah, he gives a smile to Daredevil and a bow of his head. He also looks at Colleen a moment before he gives her a smile. "Long time no see."

His attention then shifts to Jessica when she comes after Dinah. "Well, thats not fair. That'd be like calling you 'Mistress Leather' or 'Anger Management Therapist'." he smiles at Jessica as he banters, but when Matt tells Danny to tell them all about her, Danny speaks. "She's trustworthy and has helped me against our enemies for some time now. She's a fantastic fighter, guaranteed to give any of us a serious run for our money." Whether its true or not requires the proof, but Danny knows an excellent fighter when he sees one, and he does not lie about these things.

"As for her other traits, well, she's here with us, and she has her own voice. I could probably talk about her for hours and none of us probably has the time for that." he says amusedly, and he leaves the floor open for Dinah to speak about herself.
Dinah Lance Dinah Lance looks around the gym, gaze shifting from one to the next to the next. When Jess walks in and makes her assessment, Dinah folds her arms and cocks her hip. "I dress to be noticed. Glad you noticed." she replies simply. Taking another look around the gym, her gaze pauses at Colleen and a small smile touches those red lips before moving on.

"It's like Danny said, though. We could compare Sensei's, compare belt colors, get into a deep discussion about the pros and cons of warrior zen versus chi, or even throw together a cage match."

Canary steps slowly into the room, then. "The short version is that I've been fighting crime in Gotham for a few years now, and I've gotten pretty good at it. I heard that you have a group here that watches each others' backs, and I like that idea. I like it so much that I agreed to come and meet you all, even."
Colleen Wing And then it dawns on her. When she actually sees the face of Dinah, the pieces come together, turning her head to spit some of her coffee out on the gym floor, despite her best efforts to contain it. Apparently, they have met before in some capacity. Her eyes turn back to the group, raising a hand to wipe her mouth as properly as possible and she sets the cup down on the floor beside her. "Too much sugar..."

She crosses one leg over the other and nods once, waving a quickly to Dinah as not to disrupt the recruitment meeting. "Colleen. Don't judge me." A quick smile is flashed.
Jessica Jones Jess knows Daredevil's schtik when he's around, she likely could have said a thing or two to him, but seeing as this is first impressions on a potential new member, she allows Daredevil his act without taking away from it. After all, he generally asked the same question she did, albeit in a more polite form.

She smirks at Danny when he quips back at her, "Danny, you should stick to magic karate and dragon punching." She leaves it at that without elaborating, against, first impressions, no point undressing any standing team member.

She turns to look at Black Canary, following Danny's introduction of her, "so you're also in the magic karate squad? Got any sob story to go with it or you're just magically talented in karate?"

At Dinah's response to her quip, Jessica laughs, "oh, you'll get noticed alright...I take it you're fond of punching sleezebags?"

Before Dinah even finishes the thought about comparing Sensei's belts or magic ninja discussions, Jessica interjects with, "my belt is a freakin' 5 dollar street leather, I got no Sensei, and I think both zen and chi are equally stupid nonsense. Point being, you don't have to impress me with magic karate, I already know you're better, because I don't do any of it...what I care about is where you're coming from." Jessica concludes her little bit of this entire exchange. "If you don't mind, what made you start fighting crime in Gotham? That's the only thing I want to know to cast my vote."

Jessica looks weirdly at Colleen, whom she didn't get to know too well at this point, asking in confusion, "you put sugar in your coffee? Why?" She actually looks like it really bothers her, even though it shouldn't, especially at this point in time. "You can't put too much sugar in your coffee, which should have none by the way, and then tell people not to judge you. Obviously you will be judged, and harshly too!"
Matt Murdock So far things were going well, she didn't rattle at Jess' hazing, Danny had vouched for her fighting skills, and as for what she said so far it was the right stuff, and she was calm and steady when she said it. All good signs. Though Colleen's reaction and the much more subtle uptick of Dinah's heart when she sees Colleen does catch Matt's notice. "When did you two meet?" he asks the pair of them. Jess, had gotten to the big questions already as she often did.
Danny Rand "I thought you didn't believe that I punched a dragon?" Danny tells Jessica with a bit of a smirk touching his features. Of course, this was pretty much the general attitude of the defenders. At least a few people were serious in the moment, but at least two of them would get into a very playful spat with each other.

But, Danny's attention is mostly on Dinah as she speaks her piece to the group at large. He keeps his arms crossed though, a smile on his face as she showcases her interest and it wasn't all just heresay.

He does look quite amused at Colleen's call for non-judgement. "Its okay, Colleen. We'll get you sorted out with an outfit someday." he teases.

He does look back at Jess though as she questions when Dinah started her crime fighting, and when Matt questions when Colleen and Dinah met. Seems there's more interconnections than Danny thought!
Dinah Lance "Judo, actually. Plus Kempo, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, and whatever else I pick up along the way that's useful." Canary replies to Jess. "No magic, just practice, hard work and a lotta sit-ups." In THAT bodysuit? Yeah, definitely. "Although this Canary does have a voice as well." she hints.

"The fishnets are sort of inherited. I'm the *second* Black Canary; my mom was the first." Dinah continues without a pause. "And no, I don't do this in her name or because of some family expectation. I don't do it because I grew up around superheroes and it's all I've ever wanted to do." Both of which are pretty specific examples, of course.

Her stance shifts, then, leaning a bit more directly towards Jessica, even pointing for emphasis. "I do it because I CAN, and because no one else will."

Then Daredevil derails the conversation with a simple question, breaking her momentum. Dinah looks at Colleen, then back to the Red One.

"She and I met in a flower shop about a week ago, actually. This bunch of guys walked in, things went sideways, and we fought back to back." Dinah pauses with a grin, then. "How're the ribs, Colleen?"
Colleen Wing Jessica gets a raised brow and a half smile from Colleen. Is that how she wants to play? Her words are spoken with a tone of jest in retort. "Sugar. You know, what some people put in their coffee. Oh that's right...unless it's whiskey or Bailey's you wouldn't know. I'll show you sometime. You'll love it and the bets part is...you can avoid a DUI when you want to go get another." A smiles is flashed and she actually sticks her tongue out.

Her glance then slides to Danny, a slow shake of her head at the mentioning of getting her an outfit. "What? Are you saying I don't look good in this? Do I have to put some fancy colorful clothes on and cover my face to bail your ass out?" Again, that same sarcastic tone is evident. "Oh I know...I can dress all scantily for you and call myself the Sorority Samurai or maybe the Bikini Bushido? Naw..I'm good."

And then she looks to Dinah, waving a had carelessly in the air. "Yeah. I had walked in to buy some flowers before heading back to Chinatown and some guys thought it would be a good idea to try and rob the place. Seriously...who tries to rob a flower shop. This chick can fight...I will vouch for that." A hand goes to touch her ribs. "Good...the breathing stopped hurting after a few days. Think they are going to heal just fine..""
Matt Murdock Daredevil nods about the fight in the flower shop. Again no signs of duplicity and it's backed up by Colleen, which makes two big votes for Black Canary's skills in a fight. Good to know.

As for motive, he nods. "Thought I heard of there being another Black Canary," he says when he finds out she's a legacy. "So, if you've been around superheroes for awhile now," he says considering that. "Who do you know? Got any names? Real ones, not codenames, we can verify you with?" he asks.
Danny Rand Danny looks briefly concerned when Colleen and Dinah admit that Dinah's shop was attacked. Only one legitimately good flower shop he knows, and that's Sherwood Florist. He might have to keep an eye on the place in case it wasn't just a robbery.

But, he looks at Dinah when Matt asks her who she knows, and there's a subtle nod there, a permission to use him if needed. But he lets her do what needs doing.

Though Danny does chuckle a little bit at the exchange between Jessica and Colleen. "I mean, Colleen -does- make a solid point. Can't get pulled over for sugar." he teases, but his attention is mainly back on Daredevil and Black Canary.
Dinah Lance Dinah Lance shifts her weight, folding her arms again and turning to Daredevil. "I don't share anything but code names, at least until we get to know each other a little bit better. But I'll give you a real name reference, too. Talk to Ted Grant. He's sparred with me as Canary before."

THE Ted Grant, former Heavyweight Champ. And this little five-foot-six blonde spars with him.

"You can also check with Nightwing in Bludhaven or some of the other Bat-types in Gotham. I've worked with a few of them."

Her gaze shifts to Colleen, then, and the smile returns. "Good to hear. And yeah, only in Gotham does someone decide to stick up a flower shop." Yes, she's suspicious as well, but that's another conversation.
Matt Murdock Daredevil breaks into a grin at Dinah's answer, his first of this meeting. She answered that correctly. No names other than ones put out in public already. "You may need to introduce us to the Bat folks, I hear they're hard to find, but I'm game to check in with Ted Grant just to meet him," of course Matt would know about Ted Grant. "My old man was a fan." Which might explain the choice of venue for this meeting as well.

Daredevil 'looks' to Jess and Colleen. "Well, barring Ted saying she's a horrible person and can't throw a punch to save her life," no chance there, he can tell Dinah's confident about how that talk will go. "She's got my vote. You definitely tick all the boxes and it'd be good to have someone on the team that's got some out of town experience. Though up to each of you on how you want to go with this." A look to Danny then, "Going to assume you're a yes," he offers with a smile.
Danny Rand Danny smirks just a little bit as Daredevil mentions really wanting to meet Ted. "I think Black Canary might be able to arrange that for you." of course, Danny just helping Cnary earn a few extra cool points among the group. But when Matt calls for the vote, he nods.

"She definitely has my vote."

To Colleen, Danny lifts his hands as if in self-defense. "I just didn't want you feeling left out..." he hangs his head slightly.
Jessica Jones "You're absolutely right, Iron Fist, I don't," Jessica grins at Iron Fist, she remembered to keep to codenames, even if Danny already suggested he and Dinah knew each other in and out of costume.

When Dinah gives her reply, Jess grins, "yeah, I get it, there's more than just Karate, there's also Ting Tong, and Bing Bong, I don't care, I'm sure you're good in all of it," but before she needs to remind Dinah what she wanted to know, Dinah offers more, and Jessica shakes her head, "I apologize you inherited that look, but I guess that means it's not entirely your fault." Can't expect Jess to be serious all the time. When Dinah describes how she does what she does because she can, Jessica murmurs, "with great power comes great responsibility, huh?" She learned that from someone, and been pondering that stupid combination of words, "well...good for you, hero."

When Colleen joins the game, Jessica looks her way with a smirk, "oh, I don't do driving, the psychos out there on the road will get you killed. But. you could pour whiskey into coffee cups, so we can have that coffee get together sometime." She does give Colleen a thumbs up for her interplay with Iron Fist, "I like that one," she notes as she hadn't had a chance to voice her opinion of Colleen yet, "you go Bikini Bushido or Katana Barbie or whatever it is your codename is."

She then turns to focus on Black Canary, with Daredevil giving his vote, she nods, "Playboy Karate gets my vote, at least one of us should look good enough for magazine covers, and have good motives. I respect her," she then raises her hand and grumbles, "I'm sorry, you don't deserve it," she offers a hand to Black Canary, "Jessica Jones, no fancy codenames, but I'd like to have yours on our roster, Black Canary."
Colleen Wing Colleen rises from the chair, nodding once to the comments made by Jessica. Them fighting words, but she knows they are all in jest. She starts to make her way towards the edge of the ring, walking by Jessica in the process. "Katana Baribie I like that. I might actually use it. Tho, not really rocking the Barbie look..you know the whole Asian thing." Her hands moves along the outside of her body to draw attention to her race. "Oh oh, you can be Bloodshot Barbie and we can be a team." Her eyes drift to Danny. "And we have Kung Fu Ken...and..." She looks to Daredevil. "Have to figure his out...but she is certainly Bombshell Barbie." She continues to make her way to the ring, reachng out with her hand extended to Dinah. "Has my vote. It would be good to have eyes in Gotham."
Dinah Lance Dinah Lance reaches out a gloved hand to take Colleen's own, flashing a grin. "Thanks, everyone. Bombshell Barbie, reporting for duty!" Looking around the gym, then, she asks. "Oh, does anyone here ride motorcycles? Because I think they're standard issue in Gotham with the caped-and-cowled set. If you ever need any work done, I rebuild bikes on the side."
Matt Murdock Daredevil nods when the others vote in Dinah's favour. "We'll need you to meet Power Man at some point but I think it's safe to say he'll like your style. Welcome to the Defenders, Black Canary," he offers with a warm and genuine smile, fully dropping the hardass act, he walks over and extends a gloved hand to shake with hers if she's willing. "I'm good for motorcycles, but some of the others might be up for it," he tells the woman. "As for secret IDs up to everyone what they're willing to share, we'll likely meet up out of costume sooner or later anyhow," he says before adding as an aside. "We tend to hang out in a lot of bars."
Danny Rand "I do like a good motorcycle." Danny says softly to Dinah. "Though I'm usually of the rootop hopping variety, admittedly." he shrugs softly with a bit of a grin. Though he does look over at Jessica as she goes on a bit of a tangent. "I really did punch a dragon, though."

He sighs somewhat defeatedly.

But! When its revealed that Dinah has been accepted into the Defenders, Iron Fist glows into a big smile. "This is gonna be fun." Not only because they have a new friend in the mix, but because their strength is growing in a way that 100 members of the hand couldn't take them down. Quality over quantity. But Danny breaks out of his logistical planning trance for a moment to look over at Colleen with a bit of a smile. "Kung Fu Ken, huh?"

But he approaches Dinah and puts a friendly hand on her shoulder. "Welcome to the club. We're happy to have you."
Colleen Wing Colleen ponders. "I think the last time I was on a motorcycle...no wait, it was a scooter in Tokyo. Weaving in and out of cars. Wind in my hair. Drunk on Sake. I was on the back with this guy named Akiro. His father was big in the Tokyo Stock Exchange/ Man was he..." She shakes her head quickly and drops the story. "Sorry I was re-living a moment. Yeah, welcome to the team."

She steps back after the handshake and folds her hands behnd her back ."Yeah there tends to be a lot of meetings at bars. Helps that one of the members actually owns one."
Jessica Jones "Katana Barbie definitely has a nice ring to it," Jessica agrees, pleased that Colleen is rolling with it rather than throwing a fit. "Well, if the Asian look is a problem you can be Hello Kitty Katana?" Jess is ever helpful. "I don't know that Matel would approve of any Barbie based on me, I have a rep," Jessica notes with a winning smile. "Sorry to disappoint," she interjects at Dinah, "I don't ride anything, no car, no motorbike, nothing. Well, I do ride the subway, if that counts?"

Up goes Jessica's hand when Daredevil mentions bars being a regular meeting spot, "guilty, my fault and all. But in my defense, I need alcohol to survive."

"Sure you did, Iron Fist," Jessica says to Danny in a way that suggests she absolutely doesn't believe him. She then eyes Colleen and quips, "you're either an animated character, or you lead a much more interesting life than me."
Dinah Lance Dinah Lance shakes Daredevil's hand as well as Jessica's. And when Danny puts his hand on her shoulder she turns to give him a hug. A nice one, at that. "Thanks. And thanks, all of you. In Gotham we use earpiece comm thingies, but somebody else sets those up. I just use it."

Okay, so Canary's not all that strong in the electronic tech department.

"You'll have to let me know how you guys, um, keep in touch. Cell phones? Texting? Tarzan yells? Passing notes on bar napkins?" In any case, she'll leave her cell number for anyone who's collecting them. "And if that fails, you can leave a message for me at Grant's Gym."
Matt Murdock Daredevil grins, "Texting mostly. We'll share numbers tonight so you can show up at our next bar meetup," he jokes. "And again welcome to the team."
