Phoebe Beacon     Phoebe Beacon was, largely not exactly encouraged to do magic on Bat-time. The young woman therefore typically used a bit of space on the edg eof the woods that she's set up as sort of a 'outdoor witchin' kitchen'. Has room for a balefire, some heiroglyphics carved into fallen wood and bound together to make little figurines, some hand-carved and painted ones set up in the trees.

If you didn't know Phoebe well enough to know that those poppets were made with good intentions, it would probably be HELLA CREEPY to stumble across half-drunk at night.

And to some of her 'siblings' it's hella creepy to stumble across while chasing after a frisbee in the middle of the day.

Phoebe was here, though, bare foot with her paler speckles of skin on her feet showing, wearing a pair of comfortable jeans that have had the crap beaten out of them over the last couple years, her hair bound back in a hair wrap, and a T-shirt from Bat BUrger's last big promotion when they introduced Jokerizing their fries.

And she breathes out as she sits, cross-legged, in front of a little bronze bowl that looks like the insides have been set on fire a couple of times.

Inside the bowl? Cass's hair. A couple spots of her blood from a medical procedure. Even some toenail clippings. Phoebe even tested them and identified them positively as Cassandra's.

She had to discard one of ALfred's fingernails. Some things even those who toe the line of magic just aren't meant to know.

Phoebe speaks in the soft, musical voice as she casts, reciting in Ancient Egyptian as she raises he rhands over the golden bowl, and the contents catch flame, glowing in a very pinkish-orange light.
Cassandra Cain Visions are not always clear. Sometimes it takes a bit of work to get them to sit up and beg, rather than doing what they want to do. This is one of those cases; someone, sometime, had the presence of mind to actually protect something in this vision from magical scrying!

In this case, it manifests as the vision wandering, showing other things. Cass sitting under a tree, looking up at the sky. The smoke dissolves, and that image vanishes. But it was there. Was it real? Unsure.

With direction though, the swirling changes. There's more within, but it's resistant.
Phoebe Beacon     Concentrate, Phoebe.

She hadn't done this before without someone guiding her, and looking at her own past, walking to the next generation back was easy. Looking at someone as closed off as Cass?

And tyring to remember everything she's learned?

This is a whole different kettle of fish-shaped pectin gummies, but she's not about to give up on Cass.

Phoebe winces, breathing out relaxing her shoulders, and she tries to *will* herself along the vision path. Pull information.

How did Cassandra Cain hide from the Red Room?
Cassandra Cain Two eyes, deep and meaningful, stare back suddenly. There is threat in them, but also power. It is a barrier that Phoebe must penetrate; one not of direct opposition, but of knowledge. The eyes vanish almost as fast as they arrived in her vision, but the message is clear. I know. Whoever I am, I know.

Then they are gone, and the visions move. A happiness in some things, Cass is there. She's quiet, but so very small. Cass being a cute child is a bit of a revelation; she's never been the cutest thing, always looking as if she's just a little too tough, a bit weird and out of place.

Her vulnerability isn't there. That aura about her that says, I'm gentle inside. I care. I won't hurt you, I'm here for you. Cass as a child was more robotic, more stiff. She's sparring with a girl, about her own age.

...

There's a twist, and Cassandra is standing over the other girl, her leg binding the other's leg. It's broken, and she's looking down, almost emotionless. You can feel an order being given, and Cass' face looks up.

The face gives away nothing, but the horror in her eyes is sudden. She looks back down from her teacher to the girl below her, and then she steps back. Stumbles.

She runs. She leaves the girl behind that she felled, with her broken leg. She'll be killed, the vision shows the girl being killed out of hand. Losers die.

But Cass runs, and runs, and runs...
Phoebe Beacon     PHOEBE PROTESTS. She distinctly has memories of Cass being THE CUTEST THING with flower crowns and everything.

That's why she crushed super heavily, and as we all know Phoebe never drops a torch. She just juggles them. No help for the hopeless romantic. Emphasis on 'hopeless'.

She can walk around in the memory, though in the vision Phoebe doesn't look like herself, she's sort of... iridescent. All manner of glowing and just a pair of rose gold eyes where eyes should be.

She watches as Cassandra refuses to execute her classmate. She had already figured from listening to Talia that the Red Room didn't like failure.

    Poor Cass.

But she follows the vision. Cass running, running from the execution, running from failure.
Cassandra Cain The hunt. The bunker is deep, with passages and natural rock formations, but it is not endless. Cass will have to get out in order to not be caught. She's no master yet, her motions much clunkier than the girl who she'll grow to become. She trips, she's desperate.

She finds herself on the edge of a chasm. The shadows move around her, and she knows that she's surrounded. She turns, and a blade protrudes from her chest. It just appeared there. She chokes out blood, and then she falls.

Little girls gather around the place that she's fallen. They look, making sure that she's gone. One pauses, crouching, and takes her blood on her own fingers. Touching death. Her friends, her sisters.

Then they walk back, to learn more. Become more.

And Cass is dangling from a ledge, far below. She's grabbed on, her chest screaming. That invincible heart making it possible, even now. And she holds, her other arm not moving. She pulls, lifting herself up.

Onto a ledge. A hole in the wall of the chasm. Alone, bleeding. She pulls herself in, and collapses in exhaustion and blood loss.

And suddenly the shadows grab her, and yank her inside! The motion is sudden, and she's gone into the darkness. A scene from a horror movie, or an origin story.
Phoebe Beacon     Definitely the origin of something that could have turned awful.

Someone grabbed Cassandra, as she lay bleeding in a hole in the chasm wall. Phoebe's eyes press tighter together in the real world, her breath coming in uneasy little puffs before she straightens up, her hands relaxing.

Let it go, let it go, let the vision go on and flow.

Show me who saved you, Cassandra. What memories do you have hidden of this time? After so much pain?
Cassandra Cain Cassandra is unconscious. She fought, but she ...it went badly. She was already hurt, and in the darkness Lady Shiva smiles at the little girl, out cold beneath her. Her voice is a whisper, as she hunches down over the youth. Reaches out to touch her face. With love.

"You'll be fine," she says, smiling. The absolute darkness can be seen through, the vision allowing all things to be seen. Even pitch black, eyes that look the fallen girl over almost possessively. Then she looks upward, toward the place Cassandra has always known. "Amateurs. So easy to manipulate, there was only one path out of that room. But, I suppose that's what made it fun." She slaps her daughter once, waking her.

Minutes later, she's being shown. The hidden ways, the places you can hide. Cassandra stumbles. For a while, she's awkward.

A week later she's adapting, becoming the darkness itself.

A month later, she's moving out into the Red Room, fetching food..

A year later, she's watching the teachers. She's walking through walls, a ghost.

She's Cassandra.

Shiva is a smile in the darkness. A cheshire grin.

The vision fades.
Phoebe Beacon     Phoebe awakens in the real world as the vision runs its course, and the remains of that hair and blood and toenails fizzle out, the fire dying, and she tilts her head back, fighting nausea, giving a hard swlalow as she fights to keep her afternoon meal down, and then coughs, leaning forward and over the bowl and the dirt.

    How did Cass exit? Shiva.

Even starting out stumbling, eventually Cass became the Cass they all know.

    And then became... more.
