Jinx Jinx is a thief. She prides herself on being quite a good one. Thing is - she was only a good thief because she could cheat. Magic. And right now she's magically challenged. Not that she's going to tell anyone that. Admitting it to some of her Titan's team mates was hard enough.

Most of the clientelle of the Bar with no name assume that Jinx is just playing a 'long con' on the Titans. As such, she's still welcome in this particular bar of criminal scum. And she still carries with her the weight of Supervillainess.

Now, though, she is being cautious and unlike many who come here she doesn't have any kind of signature costume to go with the title. What's worse is now she has to -hire- a thief to do her dirty work for her. Even if it is, technically, in the name of good.

The private booth at the back is reserved for this 'interview'. Jinx can't trust the job to just anyone. But a thief who seems to have caught the eye of caped law enfarcement in Gotham is just good enough to do what she needs and just not famous enough to demand a ridiculous price for the work.
River Banks     River is also a theif. She used the moniker Riptide, and she was a damn good theif -- though she tended to target banks down in the south. Up here there was a rumour that she owed a lot of money to Byron Buller of the Dixie Mob, after a job went south a few years ago. And recently? Well. She hadn't done so well for herself.

Not after someone sent Sabretooth after her to shake her down for money.

And you don't send someone like that after 'just a bank robber'.

And they whisper about how she escaped from a Titan. That doesn't go unnoticed. But she'd been hard to get a hold of. Running through fingers like water. Probably on account of the several new scars she was sporting, some still with stitches in them as she pulls on a blue jacket to self-conciously cover her arms, wearing a paintball mask to hide her lower face before she sits down across from Jinx, looking very, very tired.

"You're the one conducting the interview?"
Jinx Jinx hadn't considered hiring a henchman to do interviews for a thief. Nope, she just came herself because this was personal and important to her - also hiring henchmen is a lot of bother and work and money. She smiles at the woman wearing the paintball mask.

"That looks ridiculous. Keep it on though if you want, just don't complain to me if your face gets all puffy from the heat. Yes, I am. My name is Jinx and I need someone with light fingers and a lighter step who doesn't mind a bit of travel."

Her English accent is anything but posh. Londoner all the way. "I hear you're two steps ahead of a Titan. That's what the rumour mill says. Impressive." She's not got her T-com with her. There's no way she'd bring that to -this- pub let alone to a meeting with a thief she wants to hire. It is somewhat amusing that River just sat down to an interview with a Titan though.

"Riptide, right? It's a quick job but profitable if you pull it off. You'll need a passport. If you make a mess of it there's no one to clean up after you."
River Banks     "Forgot to brush and I hate showing up with stuff on my teeth." the thief replies, dark eyes narrowing a moment before she shrugs it off.

"I escaped from a Titan." she corrects, "doesn't mean I'm two steps ahead. Means they didn't want to give chase." She is very, very clearly a Southerner. She's got the drawl, deep south, not exactly a Belle. More like whiskey and barfights.

"Ah kin get a passport. Ain't nothin' to it, but that's added expense to the job and I ain't generally speakin' one for *international* capers. Already on enough shit lists in the US." she explains, and then gives an upnod.

    "What's the job?"
Jinx Jinx considers a moment, "Well I know a couple of people who can get you a passport on the down low.." she glances away and huffs, "Fine. I'll cover the costs of a passport. So long as you are good enough to pull off this job."

A serving man walks over with a drink of water. He bows and places it by Jinx's hand, "Your water Mistress.." Jinx rolls her eyes and gives a flick of her fingers to dismiss him.

"The job is stealing two daggers from the evidence box of case 19960233 in Scotland Yard repository. The case happened 27 years ago. They don't destroy evidence until it's 43 years old. Weird system, I don't get it."

She steeples her fingers together, "The repository of archived criminal evidence is protected by a 24/7 police security force, security cameras, physical and electronic dual locking systems and who knows what other measures. This is where all active and older case evidence is stored. Investigations that are going through the court system are stored here so they take security seriously."

"Go there, break in, steal the daggers, get out, leave no trace. Return the daggers to me here in the USA and you will be paid handsomely." An eyebrow is raised, "Minus any up front costs."
River Banks     Riptide gets a very, very exapserated expression as she looks to Jinx, her brows furrowing then relaxing.

"You want someone to break into Scotland Yard and rob them of a couple daggers from their evidence files, without garuntee that they'll be able to get there, based on the fact that I narrowly escaped getting turned into possible paste by /Starfire/." Riptide replies with a dullness to her voice. Of course the wheels are turning, though, and she pulls out a cheap smartphone and types something in.

"... four thousand pounds sterling just for lodging over the three prelim investigation days. Three thousand pounds for the round trip flight there and back. How much are you paying to go up against the very famous Scotland Yard investigation force in Great Britain, 'cause it'll be a mess if it gets caught and comes back to you, won't it?"
Jinx Jinx knew this Riptide was going to be new to the game but she didn't expect 'if this mess gets back to you' levels of new. The corners of her mouth twitch up just a little and she cooes gently in return, "Oh my that would be unfortunate wouldn't it."

Ah, playing the villain used to be so much fun. But there's no bite to her bark any more. SOP would be to have River killed to avoid her talking to the police if she got caught. Now, well, now she'll let her money do the talking. "Which is why I will be paying you very well."

Pen and coaster overturned she cups it with a hand and writes down a number. Turning back over to conceal it she slides it over to River and then takes a sip of her water. "This may be a small job but I expect you to conduct it well. This is a doorway in to the big leagues if you don't screw it up."

"And what's a little Scotland yard security to someone who went up against Starfire and lived to tell the tail. You, Riptide, have got.." she motions with her hands across the air, "It." A nod to her, "And it will take you far in life if you let it."
River Banks     "You're full of 'it'." Riptide states as she accepts the coster, and takes a look at the number on it.

"I've got a Bat on my back and I've got to make good. I've got some guy with knives for fingernails who can't wait for me to fuck it all up so he can leave my guts strewn like party streamers all over the China Basin in Gotham City. The only reason I even showed up to the place was because it's *impolite* to accept an invitation where I'm from, bless your lil' black heart, but don't act like you're doin' me a favor. I heard you're in with the Titans." Riptide's eyes flick over to Jinx.

"How do I know you're not setting up to take me down?"
Jinx "You're making lots of friends it seems," Jinx smirks a touch at Riptide's list of growing enemies. "You're meant to pick one and make their lives miserable, if you're going to get in to the arching game. That might be too big league for you though."

She doesn't look too disturbed that it was said out loud. No one else in the pub even bothers to look over. "It's true. I'm in a bit of a feud with my former employer and that ended me up on the Titan's radar. For now I have to play nice with them."

There's something about the way she says it that doesn't sound entirely sincere. "Besides do you really think they'd let me in _here_ if I wasn't still in the game hm?" She points a finger at River, "Stop worrying about me and think about that big number in your crypto purse for a mere weeks worth of work."

"I doubt Starfire even knows your name and I certainly have no beef with you. This is the first time I've met you - I just need something stolen. Quietly. Can you do it or not?"
River Banks     "You keep usin' Big League like it's some kinna goal. Not everyone's out to get someone specific pissed off at them. Not everyone wants to be a target like that." Riptide states, and she shakes her head, and looks at the number on the coaster again.

"You got anyone else lined up for this job?"
Jinx "You're the freshest name on the market Riptide. And hey that's fine if you're just interested in making money - stop asking so many damn questions and take the job." She narrows her eyes and then smiles again. Another sip of her water. "I don't need your whole life story to hire you. That's the way these things work. You give me daggers, I give you money, everyone walks away happy."

"But if you're not up for the challenge I'll go find someone who is." That would be extremely inconvenient. "I get you're paranoid. But I'm not a bat and I'm not a Starfire. Hell, my best friend is Harley Quinn. Look me if, see if I'm lying."
River Banks     "It all started when I was a little pipsqueak livin' in the backwoods of Alabama--" Riptide begins.

"An' not asking questions is what got an awful lotta people killed. I like to know what I'm workin' with." she states, and then pushes the coaster back over.

    "Double it."
Jinx Jinx's lips part just a little and her eyebrows raise. "Well. You are enterprising aren't you.." She looks down at the coaster and lowers her volume just a touch.

"The daggers were used by my father to murder my mother and some other random person before he suicided by cop. That was the day I was born. So there you go, a nice little messed up story. Those daggers, I figure, are mine by birth right."

It's clear there's a lot more to the story than that. But the part she did say does seem to be told truthfully. Either that or she's an exceptional liar. "I won't double it, but I will convince Starfire to stop hunting you." It's possible that Starfire doesn't give up so easily. Yet another trouble on top of the bat and the knife fingers.
River Banks     "Fantastic since she probably doesn't know my name." River states, and she exhales.

One last job... famous last words.

"Gimmie twenty four hours. I'll let you know when I'm ready to fly." Riptide states, cracks her knuckles, and then goes to stand up and make an exit.
