Peter Parker For most of the last year, three people had shared a secret: Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, was not really Peter Parker.

Though the substitute was Ben Reilly, who actually is, also, Peter Parker, but not THE Peter Parker, but sufficiently Peter Parker to stand in for Peter Parker while Peter Parker was off doing something heroic in another dimension.

While also being, himself, a version of Peter Parker.

The plan had been for Peter-- for SPIDER-MAN to respond to an unusual request for help from one of the many realms where the Spider-Family was in need of assistance. To keep things on the level while he was gone, Scarlet Spider had agreed to stand in for Spider-Man on the street. And to carry on the life of Peter Parker, while Spider-Man was away.

And then Spider-Man left, and promised he'd send word if he needed help, and ... nothing. Days turned into weeks, then months. Once in a while an 'all is well' would pop up for the only two others in on the secret: Ben Reilly and Gwen Stacy.

Finally a garbled message, almost impossible to process, in which they extracted just a few words: 'trouble', 'gone', and 'help'.

The two of them made the lengthy arrangements to be transported to Spider-Man, and in short order and transported from our world to the realm Spider-Man is guarding.

Though as they materialize, it is perhaps a little strange to find Spider-Man standing at the transport site wearing his suit sans mask and looking a little surprised. It seems to be the interior of some lab or factory, albeit one that's seen better days.

"Holy smokes, you two got here fast," Peter informs the duo. "I sent that message like, five minutes ago. Are you just sleeping by the communicator these days?" he asks with a whimsical amusement-- and making no mention of the fact they haven't seen him for the better part of a year or more!
Ben Reilly It had been quite the year for Ben Reilly. He had enjoyed some aspects of being Peter Parker - being able to spend time with Aunt May was probably the pinnacle of that - but he was also realizing just how much he was NOT Peter Parker.

For example, he did not have the same habit of always running around without his mask, something he was quick to be reminded of as the transporter brought him face to face with his face. Not his face, but his face on another body. Or something.

"Uh, no, why would you say that, Pete?" he asks, glancing to the side to look at Ghost Spider.

The two were definitely not just sleeping next to the communicator. And their communicators were definitely not just sleeping right next to each other.
Gwen Stacy Being from an actual alternate universe was perhaps a good thing for this Ghost Spider. And for Spider-Man. And for Scarlet Spider. It meant they had been able to sort out a way to join with Peter with the notes and tech he had left behind. Five minutes though? It had taken way longer than that...

"It took us a while to get everything ready..." brows furrow under the black and white mask of the Ghost Spider, "A lot longer than five minutes.." days maybe? She wasn't even sure by now.

A glance to Ben and she can't help but roll her eyes at the way he interpreted Peter's words. "You are just like him. No poker face..." a shake of her head and she starts approaching Peter.

"It's been a while, we are glad to see you well.." she rests a hand on his shoulder and squeezes it. "Ready to go home?"
Peter Parker Peter starts moving his head back in forth and by the time Gwen's closed the distance, he's singing 'Poker Face' in a soft, faux whisper, and twisting his ankles this way and that with a little dance step. Gwen's touch is reciprocated with a squeeze of her forearm and a relaxed grin and wink. "Boy, am I," he agrees. "Pavitr's a good guy but the only dishes he has in his arsenal are rice and curry. I am dying for a--" he looks over his shoulder, back at the others. "A cheeseburger," he whispers.

Peter's amused mien fades to something more serious and he gestures them over to a display panel. Lights flicker and come online, revealing stylized Hindi script on the wall. Next to it, in English, is a similar aesthetic that says 'OsCorp'.

"Pavitr asked me here to help with this guy named Hara Bhoot. Closet translation is--" he nods, guessing they'll pick it up. "Green Goblin. They think it was something OsCorp cooked up and it got loose. We're in Mumbai, their old research labs right now," he explains. "Pavitr and I planned patrols this morning and said we'd make contact in the afternoon. I haven't heard from him in five hours. He's a good kid but a little inexperienced, and there's just too much ground for us to cover. I figured with some backup," he gestures, "we can figure out where the Bhoot is laired up. After three weeks of eating curry and scouting locations, I'm ready to admit I need a new approach."
Ben Reilly With an unseen roll of his eyes, Ben reaches into the pocket of his hoodie vest and withdraws a carefully protected bundle in paper. "Told ya," he says to Gwen before tossing the double cheeseburger up to Peter. He taps the side of his temple with his other hand as he grins at her.

The explanation of the situation goes fluidly enough, with Ben nodding along, until that last part. "Three weeks?" He glances over at Gwen, and then back at Peter, tilting his head a bit. "Uh, yeah, let's deal with Das Boot and then we gotta have a little convo. One thing at a time, though."
Gwen Stacy There's an exhale of defeat from Gwen when that cheeseburger is mentioned. And further more when Ben actually rubs it in by revealing one to give to Peter. Hands go to her hips and she just shakes her head. It's clear she just lost a bet of some sort.

It's also clear that for some reason Scarlet Spider and Ghost Spider seem a lot closer than they were a year ago before Peter left.

"Alright, let's do this. Divide and conquer so we can find it? Our comms should work here I hope.."
Peter Parker "Oh man, it's like you know me," Peter marvels at Ben. He accepts the burger and hefts it once at his counterpart in thanks, and then without furthur ado tears into it like a man starving. "hohmgdsffgood," he says, chewing.

It doesn't take him long to devour the burger and he hook shots it into the trash on the other side of the lab without bothering to look. "Okay. Mumbai's a big city-- really there's the greater Mumbai urban area, which is Mumbai proper and a lot of smaller boroughs around it. Kinda like New York," he explains. Images flash up on the screen, listing a dozen districts in the immediate area. "We're pretty sure he's in the old city, here. It's a few hundred million people in a ten kilometer square. We've checked off these locations," he says, and brings up a list of X-marks over landmarks. "Either too much foot traffic, infrastructure issues, or we've cleared it already. We're trying to find a location that is reasonably low-traffic, or at least won't have a lot of people randomly wandering around. It needs to have industrial power, water access, and telecomms for the lab work this guy is doing. Lastly, I used the old OsCorp glider specs to map out a rough range. Given fuel and speed, and some sightings, I'm definitely sure he's somewhere in this zone."

Peter steps back, staring at the display with a grimace. "Just a needle in a hundred million haystack. Any bright ideas?"
Ben Reilly "I know, man, right?" Ben laughs a bit as he watches Peter devour the burger, knowing exactly what it would feel like to be a year removed from burgers. Although to Peter, it seems only three weeks. Honestly, one week would probably do Ben in.

Staring at the display, Ben tilts his head in thought. "Do we even know what he is after?" he asks, turning his gaze to consider Gwen for a moment before Peter gets his attention. "If so, we should really try to lure him out. Maybe the good old bait thing, but instead of surprising him with a second Spider-man, we're really surprising him with _three_ Spider-people." He sighs at that suggestion, looking back to Gwen. "Not that I want to do the bait thing with you again...really not fond of that."
Gwen Stacy A huff escapes Gwen when Peter just devours the damn burger and she murmurs, "Don't choke on it." she totally means the opposite. But then it's time to get down to business and so Gwen gets closer to the monitors to look over them, arms folded together, thoughtful.

"At least we have practice with baiting by now." She points out to Ben, "So it may just work. The goblin in our reality likes chaos. So if there's suddenly an unknown new spider around, perhaps 'attacking' ..." and she makes sure to make quote marks on the attacking part, "... the others it may lure him. Without knowing something specific he may be after not sure we can do better than a good old fashioned bait."

"Though is there any old Oscorp facility in that area?" She asks.
Peter Parker "Uh.. that's a good question," Peter tells Gwen, and nods gratefully at her. He plugs more variables into the data and a dozen buildings pop up on the monitor. "Okay, here we go. Four call centers, two things that look like admin offices, there's a chemical plant out near the river and it looks like an electronics assembly factory by the train crossing."

Peter frowns at the screen. "For my money the factory and the chemical plant scream 'evil lair', so we might start with those," he says. "Here, give me your communicators, I'll make sure they're calibrated so we've got contact with eacch other. It can get really sketchy though, the city infrastructure is pretty dense and there's a lot of EM interference from unshielded radios."

"So, what do we think-- Ben, you wanna grab the electronic's factory, and me and Gwen will hit the chemical plant?" he suggests, and looks back and forth between them for input.
Ben Reilly "Good thinking, Gwen. I think you're right, if there's anything to that, it'll pull him straight to us." Ben looks back to the display, scanning at Gwen's suggestion.

As Peter describes the lay of the land, Ben nods in agreement before handing over his communication. "Those are where Norman would go, for sure."

When Peter suggests their team allocation, though, he looks to Gwen. "Uh, actually, Gwen and I have actually gotten pretty good at working together." After a beat, he adds, "Uh, professionally. You know. Like, a team-up. You know, Batman and Robin, or Superman and Wonder Woman, or..." He trails off for a moment, looking to Gwen for help.
