Emma Frost A small group of military style humvees are going through the city streets. Traffic has been stopped for them. Going along with them are a series of motorcycles - a police escort for what is at least up front a military shipment going through the city. It stands out enough even the normally disinclined New Yorkers are at least paying attention. Because where there's smoke..
Karen Starr     Power Girl isn't really one to get too tied in with the military, but she knows that a convoy like this can at least be a problem, because it can be a target. The Kryptonian blonde is flying overhead, about a half-mile up, drifting over as it moves. From up here, she should be able to see any large-scale problems or threats; she figures the forces on the ground will be able to track any small-scale problems.
Jacen Knight Just coming off a shift, Jacen as removed his paramedic scrubs, but does still have a badge that indicates his job and has two different bags on his belt. One of them looks like an old Native American medicine pouch and the other is larger similar to a fanny pack, a red cross on the top of it indicates medical equipment.
Emma Frost Power Girl is on to something. As the convoy goes along through the blocked off streets, there's a big, bald man walking towards it with a huge.. Ball and chain? He goes to lift it up and twirls it over his head. The police guards go to raise their weapons to aim them at him.
"Aww, what's the matter, pigs? Ya aren't oinking enough?" And as the police go to yell at him to stand down, the Absorbing Man goes to touch his hand to a ring on his index finger.. Made out of solid titanium. His body transforms! Even as the police open fire and bullets just bounce off him!
Karen Starr     Aww, crap. Why did it have to be magic? Power Girl has the advantage of surprise, so she comes in at an oblique angle behind the Absorbing Man, trying to use speed to her advantage as she punches up her super-speed, trying to basically tackle-and-plow him right down the street. Getting hit by that wrecking ball is NOT on her to-do list today.
Jacen Knight Trying to shake off a long twelve hours, it takes Jacen a second or two longer than it should to notice the man with the ball and chain. He assess the man and takes a step or two to the side as he growls,"You gotta be kiddin'." He looks at the sky and asks,"I'm bein' punished ain' I?"

He looks back at the guy and his right eyebrow raises in surprise and curiosity. His left hand touches the necklace at his throat and right touches his hat band. For those with spirit sight will see a large spirit bear rise up on its hind legs roaring in silence and a rattle snake coiled up next to the bear. Both are infront of Jacen and looking the same direction he does.
Peter Quill Some people are out there everyday, looking to protect and serve. Looking to do some good. It's a pretty noble calling.

Some people are just largely interested in a good time. Ask Peter Quill -- aka the supremely famous Star-Lord! -- he would argue that's a pretty darn good calling too. It's all relative.

For a change Peter isn't really looking for trouble, he's not plotting the Guardians' next job, really isn't doing anything but enjoying the opportunity to explore New York City itself.

Compared to all the various wonders of the galaxy he has had the chance to take in over the years it really... isn't all that impressive. But he was born on this planet, spent the first several years of his life here. The city can't help but have a certain cache that is appealling to the inner man-child within.

Though in Peter's case that inner man-child isn't buried particularly deep.

He doesn't pick up on the significane of the convoy rolling by, doesn't know just how unusual it is. He is, however, intrigued by all those uniformed officers bellowing at a man hauling a big ball at the end of a chain thought.

"Really?" the intergalactic hero/criminal snorts. "That's what constitutes a threat on this planet?"
Emma Frost Power Girl goes to charge in over at the Absorbing Man at high speed even as she mvoes to slam into him! She's just a little too slow in the transformation as her fist goes to meet his face. *CLOBBER*!
It's a blow that likel could have staggered a skyscraper, and it leaves a huge dent in Creel's chin. "Hey! No messin' with the face!" He goes to try and give a haymaker over towards Peeg! The slam is likely to miss - the point is that Power Girl will likely brace to take it, expecting that she can weather his blow being a lot stronger.
She is, and the Absorbing Man is not a remote physical threat to her as he would lunge - hopefully enough (for the bad guy at least) the blow is enough to ge ther to brace, duck back some, or something.. Right as his other hand would go to whip around the ole ball and chain to smash it down *HARD* over into one of the large military trucks, flipping it like a coin!
Karen Starr     Power Girl does back off. She's not usually one to shy from a slugfest, but she knows enough to know the Absorbing Man is magically-powered, and that's bad news for her. She zips back as he swings his haymaker, unwilling to make contact. And...crap, flipping truck! With no one better-suited to it that she's aware of, she zips over to the truck to catch it before it can accidentally take out any civilians.

"You're outclassed. Stand down or I'll melt you into a puddle!" Power Girl's eyes glow red, her heat vision primed but not firing yet.

She sees Star-Lord...NOT someone she knows. But the "on this planet" catches her, and makes her honestly worried; whose side is he going to be on? "Yeah, he is. Don't let him hit you!" she calls to him, in case he's on her side.
Jacen Knight While the cowboy is a descent brawler, he isn't an expert boxer. Even if he was, that would be a pretty tough thing to punch. Instead he works his way around and to the back of the one causing the trouble.

Not a striker, but an expert wrestler on the state champion level. He grabs the Absorbing Man, thankfully distracted, and in a clean belly to back suplex movement levers the heavy man from his feet and tosses him with strength that is impossible for the size of the man.

He nods to Power Girl and moves to go check for injuries, still mindful of the potentially vengeful Creel.
Peter Quill It's not that Peter was just going to stand aside and let the weird bald guy go on a rampage or anything. But being addressed at all is a little surprising to him, blinking at the woman who soars straight into the fray. "Got it, don't let him hit me," he answers back before his voice drops down to a mutter once more.

"Like I'd let someone like that hit me. Pfffft," Star-Lord says, giving his head a little shake.

Then, reaching up he taps at a small device, his features suddenly shrouded by a mask, bright glowing red lenses prominent. He also proves that Power Girl isn't the only one who can fly, those jet boots suddenly springing to life as Peter takes to the air, buzzing over the street and convoy below as one of his blasters appears in his hands with shocking speed.

"Alright buddy boy, seems like it's open season on jerks hauling around big balls. Sucks to be you," he announces, suddenly opening fire, peppering Creel with bolts from his quad blaster. "I wonder if there is a bounty on this guy..." he mutters to himself.

"Hey! You! Wrestling dude?" he calls out as Jacen lifts Creel from the ground. "Is there a bounty on this guy? I'll go splitsies, even though I will clearly end up doing most of the real work. You know, the stuff that doesn't actually involve hauling him around."

Peter's just generous that way.
Emma Frost Power Girl is out of the way, which is all the Absorbing Man needs for just those few seconds as she's catching the truck.. Which one is the one he's after? One can almost see him doing the rapid arithmetic in his head from what his informant told him.. Even as he's going to follow up with it as Jacen goes to grab him and flip him over! Creel goes to slam down HARD into the ground! He's getting right back up even with it having impacted him. The hard headed boxer knew how to take a tumble.
"NOt bad, squirt. Don't worry, yoru turn is next." He's moving to race over towards one specific truck even as his ball and chain swings through the air, crushing the engine.. Even as energy blasts over from Star-Lord would hit him! He normally could resist normal -Earth- eenrgy blasts, but the Elemental Blasters that Quill had definitely seemed to be doing more than a number on him as blasts would hit him and start to melt off chunks! "Ow!" Even as he's just focused onr ushing for the target truck. "Come to pappa.."
Karen Starr     Power Girl is busy putting the truck down. At least, physically. But she's got more on deck than just brute strength. "I warned you!" And she cuts loose with her heat vision, twin beams of red light searing out towards the Absorbing Man. "Stand. Down!!"

The truck is placed down on its wheels, and now she can put more attention that way.
Jacen Knight Jacen glances at Star Lord and replies,"Th' hell would I know?" That was a question. Sort of. Though it is pure Missourian so Peter probably gets it. Slinging the med pack to an easier position he digs into it and comes back with a large pieces of gauze wrapped in a plastic pouch. A quick rip and he places it on the forehead of a lady trying to stand up,"Stay put. Don' get up 'nless ya have ta get away fr'm that creep."

He looks at Creel and reaches into the medicine pouch, after a moment a deer-like creature appears with the others. All still seem to face out to protect him. That done, he moves to a man trying to walk on an ankle that is clearly broken,"If ya don' stop th' adrenaline'll wear off'n you'll be'n a chair f'r months. Only if he comes this way." It is brutal and fast, but he sets the bone so less danage is done. The man screams very loud. Who's the bad guy here?
Peter Quill Really, Quill pretty much thought the bald guy with the chain would be down by now. It would seem that there are some Terrans who have a few surprises within them. But then, he's proof enough of that, right? No matter his humble beginnings he is totally awesome now.

Still, it does seem to be something of a conundrum. Clearly the guy is interested in the contents of one of those armored vehicles that sit just below them, Star-Lord having takening up a hovering position above them as he blasts away at Creel -- to minimal effect.

"What's this guy's deal anyway?" he asks no one in particular, not necessarily expecting any sort of a response. It seems that Peter just might be a little in love with the sound of his own voice. And who can blame him? So manly, so commanding. What's not to love.

"Look buddy, seems to me that these nice people here don't want you grabbing their stuff," Star-Lord says sternly. "And you can't really blame them. You are one ugly summabitch, So, how about you drop the ol' ball and chain and let the nice lady with the -- holy shit, are those fire eyes? That's awesome!" There's a good chance that is not what Peter was originally going to comment on however. "Look, just let her melt you into something reusable and we can all get on with our day."

That said, Star-Lord's free hand darts down to a pouch at his side and comes out holding a strange looking device, one that he promptly throws towards Creel. It lands just behind him and as the Absorbing Man goes to lift that wrecking ball, it suddenly exerts one hell of a gravitational force, pulling the ball, chain and Creel back towards it.
Emma Frost the Absorbing Man goes to surge forwards as he calls out at Power Girl, "Thanks, but no thanks!" Charging away from Jacen even as he calls out, "Sorry!" Towards the old man. "IT's union, that'll cover it!" As if the ex boxer knew.. Even as Power Girl's heat vision adds to the blast of eneryg going along him from Star-Lord.. And even as part of him is going to start to melt from the energy blasts and hits going over him, the man's forward progress is suddenly..
Stopped. He's yanked and flung back over to the ground, smashing onto it hard as he goes to struggle. "NO! DAMMIT!" And a box flips through the air to land near Creed - whether provenance favoring the freaks for once, whehter also tugged in by the gravity well.. Creed goes to yank a desperate hand out for it, smashing through even as he's at a crawl now, trying to get back up to his feet.. A small, silvery metal is within that's just a few centimeters big..
And then he turns silver, body rapidly taking on the form of the metal. His mass is actually decreasing, even as his skin takes on a brighter tone. "Now -that- hits the spot." Crusher Creel would surge up to his feet, despite the gravity still pulling with the same strength. His ball and chain turnst he same shade.
Karen Starr     "Thanks!" Power Girl calls back to Star-Lord. Honestly, given the bad rep Kryptonians have in the space community, she's lucky he's not trying to collect a bounty on /her/. Her heat-vision cuts out as Creel gets his hands on the metal there. "Aww, shit." She sighs. This just got a lot harder. Sure, it's only secondary adamantium...but the keyword there is still adamantium. This just moved from a fight to a "figure out how to neutralize".

"Surely you didn't do all this just for a glow-up, man?" She moves away from the truck. Right now her best idea is to grapple him and fly him up, up, and away.
Jacen Knight "This's gettin' ridiculous." the cowboy mutters and he sees someone about to get flatted by a falling light pole. He isn't the Flash fast, but he can move. He crosses the distance like an Olympic sprinter and moves the person aside,"Get outa here." he hisses at them.

Nobody in trouble for a moment he looks at the Absorbing Man again,"Son of a bitch..." he mutters and starts to assess his next play. The other two seem to have him on the ropes or did. Power Girl gets a look. If she looks back at him he will try to motion a plan as it were, if not he gets ready for another Pearl Harbor, this time a running tackle at the back of the knees. Not going to over muscle the guy with that thick hide.
Peter Quill At the end of the day Peter just doesn't have a whole lot of context here. Technically he isn't even absolutely sure that the weird bald guy is the villain in all of this. How the hell is he supposed to know?

But he's come this far and it seems a shame to change tacts now. It also feels like it might be a little late to start asking leading questions now like 'Are we the good guys or the bad guys here?'.

It's not like Peter couldn't work with either answer really.

"Was him getting that thingy bad? It feels like it was bad, but it could just be me," he chimes in, flicking a switch on the side of his blaster as the bolts suddenly turn to an electrical discharge that he directs towards the newly charged up Absorbing man.

Just for good measure he tosses out a second of those gravity mines, just off to the other side of Creel, letting him be wrenched by the force of the pair of them as he soars up a little higher overhead and continues to pound down those lightning bursts from on high.

"Ugh. This isn't really the way to make a good impression on a visitor from another planet dude," Peter chides.
Emma Frost The flung gravity mine goes to land over at Creel's feet while he's focused over on Power Girl, hand clenching hard the small bit of metal. "Well yeah, what else would I be after?" Creel was a simple man, of simple things. Why overexert yourself when you already got what you were after? his hand is clenched hard so there's going to be no unpeeling it without taking most of his arm off in the process. The two gravity mines anchor him firmly down while he's spinning to face Power Girl. "Waugh!" He's off balance even as Jacn goes to hit him from below! Creel grunts as Jacen goes off him and down on low. Then Power Girl is charging in there at high speed! Going to move to grab onto him before he can react! The Absorbing Man might be super strong, super tough.. But he is not super fast.
So when he's distracted, and the other two have put him off balance, he's grabbed HARD by Power Girl and yeeted up beyond hte horizon!
Karen Starr     Power Girl looks up and follows Creel's parabolic arc. "I'm guessing I'm going to have to deal with that." She sighs. She looks to Jacen. "Looks like you've got medic training. Handle things here, and I'll follow up with shiny?" she offers. Star-Lord gets a grin. "Nice tech there. Where'r you from?"
Jacen Knight Jacen rolls to the side onto his back to get out of the way for the falling Creel. When he notices that he is being flown up and away he gives the departing man his best wishes with a double bird,"Hope ya hit th' ocean an' drown."

He is on his feet again and nods to Power Girl,"On it. Watch out f'r that guy." Obvious, but sometimes that is the best way. He turns back to looking for casualties and there is another. The threat out of the way he takes a radio from the crash kit and a string of strange letter and number codes sends a signal for fire and rescue. They are probably already on the way, but you can never be too caerful.
Peter Quill Well... that was a little unexpected.

Watching as Creel takes quite the flight, soaring out over the horizon and finally out of sight entirely, Peter lets out a low whistle and shakes his head. "Quite the whallop you pack there," he says casually, reaching up to tap the side of that face mask -- and it promptly seems to fold in on itself once more, disappearing from view to reveal that grinning visage beneath.

Stretching out one hand, the pair of gravity mines that had been trying to hold Creel in place suddenly fold up and soar back to Star-Lord who tucks them back into that pouch at his side. He flips a switch on that Quad Blaster as well -- presumably the safety -- before it too goes into one of the holsters at his side.

"Me?" he asks with a grin for Power Girl. "I'm from Earth," he says, though that tech on him certainly would suggest a very different origin. "'Least I was," he adds.

His voice drops once more and Peter shakes his head regretfully. "Still think there should have been a bounty on that guy or somethin'," he mutters. He doesn't mind doing a good deed every now and then. But he'd rather get paid.

Another sigh escapes him and he flips an indolent salute towards the two of them. "Impressive stuff. There may be more to this planet then I thought. A heck of a lot more then I remember. You!" he says pointing towards Jacen. "You got a real future in the squared circle. Like that wrestling life. And you!" he says, the enthusiasm clear in his voice once more as he turns towards PG.

Words seem to fail him though.

Don't worry, it doesn't happen often.
