Morrigan MacIntyre October had rolled into New York City and even before that everyone was excited for the end of the month. Halloween was a rather exciting time and also it meant that the major holidays of the year were just around the corner and that meant folks wouldn't have to work as much and all of that fun stuff.

It is early evening in Cedar Grove. The beaches are open later this evening given the park that resides there is hosting a 'Haunted' hiking trail. It attracts many age groups, but mostly young adults and some people in their late 30's are about right now. There has been chatter across radio stations about a scaley 'fishman' that has been wandering about, but most folks just think that it is part of the attraction and not something that they should be worried about.

They've been spotted on other beaches as well, so maybe there is a new sort of weird in town?
Luke Cage Luke felt couped up, the changing of the seasons brought out the bear in his personality. He was being a homebody until got a visit from an a yearling that woke him up, reminded him he was a person. A life affirming night.

He had energy, the cooling air had no hold over him. He was in town to see his aunt, been fed a kings feast, and it was time to do something about his food baby. He'd dress up for a long run, kind of sneak up on the situation with the Mer-thing. Who me, just out for a run. If there was nothing to see, then the haunted trail could provide some basic bitch fall amusement.
Steve Rogers The veterans meeting at the VFW hall had gone well. The number of World War II Veterans diminished more every year, but there were still plenty with time in Korea, Vietnam, or the Gulf who seemed to appreciate Captain America having taken the time to come down to visit them.

Steve puttered along the paved road from the entrance to the park. Riding Bessie, his Harley Military EL Knucklehead that Nick Fury's father had restored and that the younger Fury had given to Steve after he emerged from the ice. Cap's shield was in a bag strapped to his back to keep it from drawing too many stares. And a bag from a sandwich place contained a toasted sub, the smells of which were almost too much to resist to go find somewhere with a nice view to eat it.

Pulling the motorcycle into a parking space, Steve puts down the kick stand and climbs off. Hanging his helmet on the bike, he remove his shield bag to get at the food and walks over to a bench along the beach. Opening the bag he pulls out the sub, unwrapping it and holding it up where he can inhale the aroma. "Ah, now this is living," he comments to himself before taking the first bite.
Caleb Dykstra So Sheila wanted to go on one of these haunted hiking trails that are being hosted, and apparently the main attraction of a fish man was the prime lure for this in particular, and Caleb said to himself 'sure, why not?'. Sheila said 'yay!' plus hugs and excitement, and Caleb got to think, 'but what if this is true?'

Hey, you survive through cataclisms, invasions, anomalous creatures masquerading as 'crowds', alien robots, and you somehow can find yourself pulled into events from halfway across the world, and you start to get a little paranoid - and, since forewarned is forearmed...

He's dressed with a long coat, spacious enough to hold a few, compact things inside; his pants are also baggy for the same purpose. Whether or not he'll need to use them, that's another matter entirely. He'll see how it goes, won't he?

The siblings arrive, and they begin to look about, trying to get a bearing of things, maybe even look for familiar faces...
Morrigan MacIntyre There's more than a few groups of people that might be from out of town and just checking out the sights. There's also a group of people that have a paper map out, yes, paper map. Because some people don't use phone GPS in this day and age. Those folks look like they're trying to see what old trails and things might go off into the nooks and crannies of the place so they can enjoy the hike /AND/ look for this so called 'Fishman'.

To each their own.

It's the only out of place group really. Everyone else seems to be enjoying the last warm days of the year before Autumn fully grasps the area and then Winter is just around the corner.

Those who are going to the Haunted Trail are greeted with smiles from those running it and giving them a bit of a rundown. Rules and safety. They tell everyone to stay on the trail and that if they go off of it and get lost or hurt that they are not responsible.

A few teens tell the staff that they are just here for the fishman and that makes a few of the workers look a bit worried.
Luke Cage "I can smell that thing from here." he told Steve, a little bit of blame in his voice due to feeling stuffed like a turkey. It was like they already well acquainted. They weren't but Cap's famous face had caused more than one parasocial relationship. Luke had paused nearby and was now speaking to the man, but not really looking at him, or engaging intimately, as if he didnt want to draw attention. "You here about the thing?" he wondered, and then finally glanced to Steve, "Or is it just about the sandwhich?"
Steve Rogers While food today might be a bit more mass produced and lack TLC that it had in his day, it's also still quite tasty and served up in an amount of time that makes it quite convenient. "And this Italian dressing on it is superb," Steve mumbles to himself, glad that the woman at the sub shop suggested it when he asked what is good.

He takes a bite and sighs contentedly as he chews it, eyes roaming over the beach, and the woods nearby. The breeze off the water is nice. Better than the smells back in the heart of New York without a doubt. Someone else would probably snap a picture of the shoreline and post it to their social media account. Steve just looks at it so he can remember it when he tells Lara about how nice the park was later.

He glances up as he's addressed. "And it tastes better than it smells," he comments to Luke Cage as he gives a little gesture with the sandwich. "Just stopped to eat," he replies, then pauses. "The thing?" he asks as if uncertain what that means.
Caleb Dykstra Eventually, Caleb's eyes fall upon the visage of Luke Cage, whom he met recently at the man's bar. He approaches, a friendly wave, and to Steve as well. "Hey there, Mr. Cage", he starts as small talk. "Here to catch a glimpse of the new fish man?"

In the meantime, Sheila's attention starts to fall upon the vendors scattered about, and what they got for sale...
Luke Cage Luke looked at Caleb for a beat or two, "What else you supposed to do with a Fishman." he returned, seeming resigned to some form of convenant with the fellow fishman finder. "Its Luke." he advised the younger man. "Lets grab Cap and head up the trail." he pointed the way. Luke glanced to Steve, impassive features on a handsome face, "You can leave that sandwhich, nobody gonna take it." haters gonna hate.
Morrigan MacIntyre The Thing.

A few minutes after Luke asks if Steve is there for it, there is a scream that comes from the sound of the trail that leads down to the beach. It's the scream that is cut off by another shout and then there is the sound of people running.

Because that is always the sound that goes before the fun starts!

The beaches are not the best lit things in the night time, but that's because no one is supposed to be down there.
Steve Rogers Steve Rogers gives a nod of greeting towards Caleb as the young man gives him the wave. While he waits for Luke to explain what thing he was referring to, Steve manages another bite of his sandwich.

Though that seems likely to be all of the toasted sub that he's going to get as the scream sounds. Steve immediately hops to his feet, the sandwich in its wrapper dropped to the bench he was sitting on as he cranes his head to locate the source of the scream.

The stampede of people makes it pretty clear it's not just someone having let out a shriek in surprise, but something actually going wrong. Without another word, he grabs his shield bag and runs forward, heading down alongside the trail, dodging fleeing people as he searches for the cause of their panic!
Luke Cage Luke kept pace with the centenarian, waving Caleb to join them. His hands like knife edges as he darted up the path, big body making a low wooshing sound as he pumped his arms, finding that he too had to dodge civilians running the other way, hopefully they would cut the wake for Caleb. "You keep it in a bag?" he said incredulously, his voice labored with the effort.
Caleb Dykstra Caleb's blood runs cold for a moment at the sound of the scream and the people panicking. He catches Sheila just in time, pulling her away from the bulldozing path of an overweight guy in swimming trunks.

"Hey! Watch it, Baron Harkonnen! You almost ran over a kid!"

The guy, of course, doesn't register the insult. Caleb looks at his sister and tells her: "Sheila, I want you to hide behind the stalls until most people have cleared the area. When they're done, then you get away. Okay?"

She nods, sobbing.

"Hey, it's not going to be like last time, okay?" He points to the two adults. "I got help, this time."

"Okay, take care..."

She hides, and Caleb follows the two heroes.
Morrigan MacIntyre Cap takes off like a track star and Luke is hot on his heels. Captain America is probably able to tell why the people are running, but it is probably not for the reason that most would guess.

Standing at the end of trail in a pair of black swim shorts is a rather tall and whip thin...'fishman'. The big eyes are covered by lenses and there is a bit of a confused expression on the face of the humanoid. "Go outside during October they said..." he mutters as he kicks at the sand.

He's not running after anyone. He's not even moving up the trail towards anyone. The tall blue striped guy is just...standing around, looking up at the remnants of the full moon in the sky.
Steve Rogers Steve Rogers dodges around a woman pulling her daughter by one arm and practically dragging her as the girl is trying to keep up. "When I don't want it stand out," Steve calls over his shoulder to Luke on the way down the trail, in answer to the question about the bag his shield is in.

"Look out, let us pass," Steve calls ahead to a gaggle of teens stampeding in a herd. He dodges around them, literally jumping over the head of a boy who is too slow to get out of the way.

He lands on the finally nearly empty trail. And comes to eye with... "Abe?" Steve asks in a confused voice. "What are you doing out here?" he inquires. At first he looks past the aquatic humanoid for a signs of what has caused everyone's panic. But not seeing anything, Steve reevaluates and turns his attention back to Abe. "Was all of that," Steve asks, gesturing up the trail after the fleeing people, "Because of you? Or is Hellboy out here fighting... I don't know. Something?"
Luke Cage Luke slowed down not far from where Cap stopped to address Abe Sapien, he grabbed Caleb by the scruff of his shirt but not unkindly. "Sweet Christmas." he didn't know Abe but felt the sudden crash of a lack of danger where danger had been anticipated.

Cap knew Abe and that was good enough for now. "Keep an eye out, might be something else worth running from." he explained to Caleb, as if he somehow needed it explained. Then he unscruffed Caleb and scanned around the area, incredulous for the moment.
Caleb Dykstra "Huh, sorry? Keep what in a bag?", he asks, his thoughts lost on whether he made the right choice with Sheila.

As he runs after Cap and Luke - yes, he'd be the last to show, given how they're both enhanced -, he can see that the 'fish man' is... Not really the monster everybody is thinking it to be. He's not harming, biting someone. And it looks like Cap knows this 'fish man', and apparently someone called Hellboy, too. "Okay, you seem to know one another... Good."

But he listen to Luke's advice, and he pulls out from his pocket a hand-held projectile launcher, and a retractable katana. "If you mean weapons, I keep several in my bag. Just in case." And he keeps an eye out. For anything that could jump out of the water, like sharks. Or anything that could prout from the sand - like sand sharks.

Because, after seeing Abe, everything is possible!
Morrigan MacIntyre Abe gives a look to Steve and there is a bit of an 'ah' that comes from the humanoid, "Captain Rogers, I do hope that I didn't cause any unneccessary harm or fright." he states in an expressive way with his hands. "One of the agents thought that it would be good if I got out more and...I'm starting to think that it was a bit of a prank. We might have to have him reassigned...to Siberia hopefully." he nods sagely at that. "Hellboy is not here...that I know of. You know how Big Red can be though." his shrugs at that.

He looks past Steve to Luke and to Caleb, "Good evening gentlemen, are you friends of the Captains?" he asks curiously as he straightens to his full height.

He's pretty tall...

"Humans...at least the uninitiated tend to run from the unknown or the weird. I guess it is in the spirit of the month after all." he comments with a soft sigh. "I should sort out an apology I would guess. I think my appearance has ruined some evenings." he admits as he looks up the trail, then back to the three standing close.
Steve Rogers Even the lips of Steve Rogers can't help but quirk just a little bit to suppress the grin that wants to form. Though it's a brief reaction that passes almost immediately as empathy takes over within Steve. Having people running from you just for how you look isn't exactly something that Steve can laugh at for very long, nor would he have had that first reaction had he not known the SHIELD operative already.

Steve Rogers turns towards Luke and the young man who follows along behind. Seeing Caleb pulling out weapons, Cap gives a little wave of his hand. "It's all ok. Just a misunderstanding it seems," he says. "This is Abe Sapien. He's a good man," Steve tells them before turning back to Abe. "Well, I know a good sandwich shop not too far away. If... ah, that would be your kind of food," he offers. Not really knowing what Abe prefers to eat.
Luke Cage Luke upnodded Abe, but his knuckles where itching from the anticipation and now he needed to cool down. He glanced to Caleb, "Go get your sister." he reminded. Glancing to Caleb's weapons he raised an eyebrow as if to say 'Really?' but there was a glint of amusement in his eyes.
Caleb Dykstra Caleb is, in fact, not pointing weapons at Abe, but keeping an eye out. After a few seconds, he holsters them. "Sorry. You can't be too careful." An explanation follows, "The first mutant I've met was a girl that could turn into a shark. We had a pretty nice conversation." He shakes his head to Steve, "I prefer to judge people by their actions, Cap, not their looks. Someone who happens to be gazing at the moonlight is hardly a monster. And I should know, if you pardon my lack of modesty - I've seen my share of monsters, and many had human skins."

He calls out Sheila over the phone, "Sheila, It's alright, it's all a misunderstanding. Come on over, there's someone I like you to meet."

To Abe, he approaches, "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Sapien. I'm Caleb Dykstra." And he extends a hand to him.
Morrigan MacIntyre There are a few people that have filtered back in after having ran away and they look a tad abashed that Captain America is talking to the guy peacefully and they ran away. Let's be honest, if you saw Abe coming out of the water after dark and didn't know him you'd probably run as well.

Cap's calling him a good man makes him dip his head for a moment, "Thank you, Captain Rogers." he tells him. He then unzips the water proof fanny pack he's wearing and pulls out two little bundles, one is a shirt which he puts on. It reads 'I Love NY', "Helps to bring a t-shirt and shoes given you can't go in most places without them." he muses to that.

Oh Abe's got jokes.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Mister Dykstra, I do apologize about not shaking hands as I left my gloves at home and it's...well complicated. And I will say that thankfully the good humans outnumber the bad...if we try to keep it that way everything will be fine." he offers the young man. Then Cap mentions a sandwich and there is a wistful look, "I've not had a good reuben in awhile. If you don't mind another joining you that is." he points out the question as he gets his swim shoes on.

"Ready when everyone else is!" he announces cheerfully.
Luke Cage Luke Cage passed down the way back to the beach, letting the adrenaline crash. Sheila on her way up got a silent fist bump. He picked up his pace as he neared the low point, getting up to that jog he'd originally set out for and as far away from the sandwich as he could muster. All is well that ends well, he'd be back at his Aunts in an hour or two, watch some TV in comfortable silence with her kids, then back to Harlem. He glanced back up the hill one last time and then he was gone.
Caleb Dykstra "Oh no, please. Just Caleb", he corrects. He makes a note about the touch thing; wonder what that is about, perhaps he'll come to learn someday.

When Sheila arrives, yeah, she fistbumps Luke, and she is surprised to see the very tall but inherently very sweet Abe. "A Mer-Man!", she exclaims.

Caleb introduces, "Sheila, this is Abe Sapien. And Abe, this is Sheila, my younger sister."

The ever so cheerful Sheila waves, happy to know someone new.
Steve Rogers Marjorie wiped down the counter of the sandwich shop with one hand, while the other held her phone up to her ear. She let out a squeal and says to the phone, "Girl, you wouldn't believe it. I mean he was just all, shoulders and blue eyes, and it took me a minute to even recognize him. He was all, ma'am and thank you and so polite. Bev, he even put a few bills into the tip jar."

She turns back to the sink, cradling the phone against her ear as she washes out the rag. "Oh I wish. I should have asked if I could take a picture with him though. I was just so overwhelmed making him a sandwich I didn't even think about it," the woman tells her friend in an excited voice. "So I've got another hour and a half and them I'm off. How about if we call up your new boy and his friends and-"

The sound of the bell above the door alerts Marjorie to someone coming into the shop. She turns back around, and sees Steve Rogers standing there. Again. And beside him is a younger man and a girl who might still be a pre-teen. And some kind of fish man, wearing an I <3 NY shirt.

"Bev? I gotta call you back..."
