River Banks     The Odd Horse Saloon is, to put it frankly, a dive.

They don't check coats, weapons, or ID's. It's tucked down a hallway that makes it difficult to get out of, and the emergency Exit's typically blocked off by a bunch of stacked, broken chairs. THe place reeks of cheap cigars and cigarette smoke and worse whiskey, and there's not exactly a high class clientelle here.

Makes it easy to meet crime contacts, though.

The place is bathed with amber light from behind the counter, where Bub is wiping glasses and telling patrons to shut up. There's some pool tables in the back, with three complete sets of balls between five tables.

One table is currently being used for an impromptu poker session.
Jason Todd Sometimes it just isn't possible to get intel while wearing a mask. Sometimes it requires going in more civilized. Even if it is a dive bar.

At one end of said bar sits a tall man. His dark hair is grown own but not exactly shaggy; at least it has been trimmed up a bit. A dark beard covers his jaw though it has also been groomed rather than letting it grow into a full mountain man style.

He wears jeans and a tee shirt with a logo too faded to easily recognize and biker's boots. A pint glass rests by his left hand and he stares silently in thought at the golden bubbles within as they slowly rise toward the foamy head at the top of the glass.
River Banks     And in walks a blonde. NOt that women aren't ordinarily seen 'round here, but they're typically not nicely dressed. She looks like she was supposed to be coming in for a date. She's got dark wash jeans and a pair of dark flats. A dark tank top with some fringe on it. Freckles showing on her shoulders and arms, and blank areas where she's painstakingly covered scars with make-up. Nails painted sparkly blue, make-up and eye shadow done and her lips that perfect pin-up red shade, blonde hair braided and pinned back to let some of it fall elegantly around her shoulders.

River Banks cleaned up pretty good when she was able to eat a healthy diet and didn't worry about robbing banks.

She checks through the floor, moving out of the way of someone coming in, and then removes the cheap, burner phone from her pocket to check the messages before she moseies herself up to the bar, brown eyes flicking over the drinks and gives a smile to Bub.

"Hey, kin ah get whiskey sour?" she asks, pulling out some crumpled fives from her wallet.
Jason Todd It's an art, paying attention a room while not paying attention to the room. Some people can do it perfectly and some never quite get the hang of it.

Jason is probably closer to the side of perfection than not, largely because of who he learned from.

As River enters, he notices her but it wasn't till she was halfway to the bar before he recognized her. She does clean up well.

Keeping to himself for the moment, he focuses more on the reactions of the rest of the bar considering most of the patrons are male.
River Banks     Some of the men look at her. They're not men who are used to the word 'no'. Not from people beneath them anyway. There's a bit of a murmur going on around them, and a few of the other girls in the place are eyeballing River like she's coming onto their turf... which.. she kind of is.

A scruffy guy siddles up to her, leaning onto the counter on the other side of the blonde as she's poured her whiskey sour, and he tries to charm her in his best Gotham Thug accent:

"So, what's a pretty dame like you doin' in a place like this? Lookin' to take a walk on the wild side?"

"Naw, sir. Meetin' someone. So unless yer Tinder handle matches who I'm lookin' for--" she gives a smile, and goes to sip her drink "Ain't interested."
Jason Todd Jason Todd saw the play from across the room. The look in the man's eyes, the quiet words had with his pals at their table.

He also saw that the attempt was going to be shot down in flames. The biggest unknown at this poing is just how poorly the guy will take rejection. Will he accept that no means no, eat some crow and just go back to laugh it off with his mates? Or will he attempt to double down and get aggressive?

Casually taking a sip from his beer, his private wager is on the second option. Guys like this don't like to lose face in front of their pals.
River Banks     "Aw, c'mon baby, come back to my table, lemmie introduce you to some friends. If you're lookin' for work, we got cash--"

"Yeah-huh. Y'all can't afford me, shug." River replies without much inflection, and she doesn't seem surprised when the guy reaches over to grab her arm and turn her towards him.

She looks at his hand on her wrist. She looks up at the guy who has just the meanest look on his face.

"/No One/. Tells me No. I Could BUY and SELL you in a snap." he growls.

"You let go of my arm. Ah'm doin' my best ta keep myself outta trouble, an' you ain't worth the watermelon bubblegum stuck under your table."
Jason Todd Called it. Not that Jason takes any satisfaction in seeing the lowest level of humanity on display.

Slowly setting his glass down. the dark haired man sighs inwardly.

This time it isn't because the woman has chosen to break any laws but because she's getting hassled while trying to just live life like everyone else.

Not making eye contact with the man, Jason still tracks the situation from the corner of his eye while also using the rather dirty mirror behind the bar to watch the guy's friends at their table.
River Banks     There's a tense moment. The man looks like he might let go. She's holding her drink in the hand he's grabbed. Jason might see her hand twitch -- is she going to use her powers here? In the relative open?

"Look, sir, I'm already sorry for what Ah'm about to do to this sorry 'scuse for a man." she states, her eyes darting to the mirror, maybe even grabbing Jason's attention.

And then she acts. The beer glass is grabbed as she leans back, one leg drawing up, and then her weight shifts hard. She uses the momentumn from bringing her leg down to smash Jason's beer glass into the side of her assailiant's head. The glass is good and thick, and cracks hard against the harder skull of the guy trying too hard to throw his weight around.

And then River grabs his shirt, and shoves him away, though now her drink's spilled on her and the man who can't take no for an answer.

The other two guys at the table were starting to get up.

"Real sorry 'bout your beer, mister." River states, shifting her weight. "Don't suppose you could wait for me ta handle this problem 'fore I replace it?" she offers, and she brings her hands up, getting ready for a fight.

"... really didn't intend ta cause no trouble."
Jason Todd Jason Todd knew something was coming, again, before it happened. He was a street rat growing up and knew how to smell trouble. He was then trained by the best detective not hamed Holmes. Body language was just another form of catching clues.

Not attempting to prevent the seeming theft of his pint, Jason watches in the mirror as the blonde shows off a degree of fighting prowess he had yet to see previously. Probably because he had guns and she didn't in those situations.

As the gut flops back, Jason turns to face the room as the cohorts decide they should do something about their pal's impugned honor. River speaks up about causing unintended trouble as Jason steps forward.

"Wasn't your fault" is all he offers quietly. He's about to have his attention taken by two over confident lackeys.

Standing between the guys and their felled companion Jason speaks quietly again, to them.

"Gentlemen. Your friend is an asshole. The lady stood up for herself because he was a spineless limpdick that tried to intimidate her into agreeing with his foolish idea just to save face in front of you."

Looking between the two men he doesn't wait, "I don't know you. But at this point, at best, it's two on two. Because I can't fight you both and stop her from jumping in if she chooses. At worst? It's two on one and the lady only has to deal with spilled beer on her. But I make no promises for the shape you'll both be in when we're through."

The quiet, almost predatory whispered method of threats he uses might just seem somewhat familiar if the blonde is paying close attention.
River Banks     Well, he *did* have guns, he *had* tased her, and was willing to tase her again all because she forgot to lock the door behind her.

Her head tilts slightly as someone decides to stand up for her, and she lets her hands drop a little bit as the good samaratan gives his threat... and the other two lift their hands and back off a couple steps. One of then bends over to grab their cohort with a soft 'What the *fuck* Gary?!' and drag him back to the table.

And it appears that the incident is over with, because Jason is a scary MOFO.

Turning back around, the blonde bends over and picks up both glasses, her spilled tumbler and Jason's beer pint, and places them on the counter, and pulls out another couple wrinkled bills.

"Jus' a coke for me. Guess Ah get /mean/ on whiskey." she states, and motions to wards Jason "An' coverin' his drink."

Bub is entirely nonpulsed. He didn't even have to break out the baseball bat to break people up, and accepts the bills, and refills Jason's pint.
Jason Todd Jason Todd didn't even use The Stare. It wasn't as good as Batman's but he's still pretty proud of it.

As the three stooges stumble outside, Jason watches then looks back to River, "Sorry about that."

Moving to his stool, he settles again and starts to decline her paying for his drink but he relents without a word, just nodding a thanks. "Are you okay?" he offers back to her. He has no reason to think she'll recognize him. Probably anyway.
River Banks     "Yeah, well. first time someone's had my back on a bar fight, but not my first bar fight." the girl replies as she re-assumes her stool. "Ain't nothin' to be sorry for. Not like you made him come up and not take a 'git lost'." she frowns a moment, and then looks over to him. "But thanks. Ah 'preciate someone havin' my back." She gives a soft sound of amusement, and brings out her phone again. "... pretty sure this fella from Tinder ain't showin'. Ah hate bein' stood up." she wrinkles her nose. "... not that I'm interested in the fella, jus' wanted to but some Fear a' God into the man."
Jason Todd Jason Todd shrugs and lifts his replaced drink in saluate before sipping. "The least any of us should have done. Bad behavior only gets worse when everyone sits around and ignores it."

Curiously he studies her. "You came here to scare someone?" He considers that, "If that's the case I probably didn't need to do anything for you anyway" he jokes.
River Banks     "Yeah... Ah don't... usually do the hero thing, but Ah got a problem with a man at the place Ah'm stayin' who got a fancy sports car, an' expensive watch, but ain't got diaper money or food money for his kid." she states quietly. "An' I know he entertains ladies while his wife works. Hear their baby cryin' through the wall." she states, accepting her coke, and she looks over to him, with a bit of a smile. "Don't sit right none, an' then he had ta go an' insult the nice lady an' call her names. Wasn't my business 'till he set his hands on her. Then it became my business." She pauses, and then drains her drink.

"Huh. Dunno why I'm tellin' you all this. At least I know you ain't him."
Jason Todd Jason Todd sips at his beer and listens.

"That doesn't seem so much being a hero as it is just being a good neighbor" he notes.

"If he's that bad, he needs a solid come to Jesus moment, I'd agree." With a casual glance around the bar, he looks back to her, "Not sure" why she's telling him things. "But no, I certainly do not have a wife or baby I'm neglecting. There are those who would see I had the same fate."
River Banks     "Well that's good. I'd hate to buy a beer for a man neglectin' his lady love." she snorts in amusement. "Good neighbor. Well. Least Ah can do, with two a' Gotham's sons lookin' out for me." she toasts Jason with a small smile, and then takes out her phone again, checking.

    "Ah... sunovagun canceled last minute."
Jason Todd Jason Todd finishes about half the beer, about where his first glass was when he unexpectedly lost it.

"Two?" He glances around obliviously.

Then the guy cancels. "Could be he saw things from the door and thought better of it?"

Moving to stand, he glances at his watch, "Seems my cousin isn't going to be making it for a drink tonight either. Think I'll be going." Another glance into the mirror, "It isn't exactly my part of town."
River Banks     "Ah know. Guess Gotham ain't so bad, huh?" River gives a small smile, and she shrugs her shoulders.

"Well, as we both caused a bit of trouble, only fair that one of us walks the other to a preferred mode of transportation." she gives a small smile, and a slow blink of her honey-brown eyes.

    "Ah'm River."
Jason Todd Jason Todd considers and nods, "Well I'm sure I'll feel safer with you escorting me out." The dry tone is just casual enough that he may have been serious. Or not.

"River. Pleased to mee you. Jason" he offers as he walks to the door. Stepping ahead, he looks out at the lot as he opens the door for her. Why? Because the three clowns that decided to leave are probably also the sort of clowns that might consider trying to wait outside in the shadows to jump someone.
River Banks     They are. They see that the two are leaving at the same time though, and decide that it's probably not worth their time to try and take them both on again, and scamper off down the street with a couple colorful terms for anatomy leaving their lips.

"Like the Argonauts!" River states, her voice rising a tick and then she gives a laugh, sticking her hands into the pockets of her jeans.

"Sorry, jus' got a book on Greek myths."
Jason Todd Jason Todd looks from the trio back to River and offers a wizened smirk.

"Probably not so much. Just a guy trying to make his way in the City of Broken Dreams." Which is probably one of the nicer things to call Gotham, let's be honest.

"Can I give you a ride home?" If two and two haven't added up to five yet, when he gestures to a red metallic '69 Mustang Mach 1, something might seem familiar. Even if River has only seen such a car painted matte black.
River Banks     "Thank you for the offer, but my momma, rest her soul, woulda tanned my hide for acceptin' a ride home from a man I just met." River smiles, thoguh she's blushing, and clearly was considering it, and then she looks up at the Ride.

River pauses. She opens her mouth, and she motions to the car, then closes her mouth, and her lips purse. She points at the car, and then looks back to Jason.

"Is that... a sixty-nine Mach 1?" she asks, her voice unsure a moment, looking between Jason and the car, and her finger points at it a time or two more, then she takes a deep breath, and lets it out, looking back to Jason, and to the car.

"Not a lot of those models 'round ."
Jason Todd Jason Todd watches her reaction curiously. You'd have thought she'd never seen a car before.

"'68 he notes." But there's a twinkle in those mostly gray eyes. "Just joking. You know your cars. It is a '69" he admits as he walks up to the hood. "There aren't a lot, no. There's a club out of Bludhaven. By club I mean three of us that get together." He pauses, "There's also, I guess, a black one people tell me they see around the city. Asshole usually drives at night like he's someone from the Quick and Angry movies or something." Shakes his head. Gets the cops riding our bumpers hard."
River Banks     "No... it's just --" she rubs the back of her head. And she looks over at Jason.

"They all big fellas like you that drive 'em?" she questions, and something just feels a bit off. She rubs at her shoulder nervously, feeling the make-up she's used to cover her scars rubbing off a bit. "That's currently my brother's favorite musclecar." she explains, trying to pass off the concern and knowledge. "An' they're expensive, ain't they?" she gives a little smile, and the wheels turn over in her mind... but she shakes her head.

"Look, ah, Jason. Like Ah said, I don't usualy go 'bout ridin' in strange cars." she folds her hands in front of her, and she has to bite her tongue, because she had a feeling she knew the asshole with the black one.

She walks up to it though, and just lightly puts her fingers on the roof. "You drive this thing real fast?" she questions, looking over to him.
Jason Todd Jason Todd listens and nods. "Well your brother sounds like he's got great taste in cars."

It isn't really nice to leave someone twisting on the hook forever. And it seems that he's decided she's been on it long enough.

At the question about how he drives, he nods, "Like an asshole."
River Banks     It clicks into place. River's eyes go wide a moment, and she looks at Jason like her heart is about to leap out of her throat.

And she takes a deep breath, and then shakes her head head.

"Y'know, I thought maybe... once or twice, but Ah'm jes'..." she stammers a moment, and then runs her hands over her hair, and takes a deep breath, and lets it out, squaring her shoulders a moment before she looks back to Jason.

"Ah well. At least you're one of the good assholes." she chides softly.

And she returns her hands into her pockets. "So. We... friends now?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd walks around the car, standing by the door, ready to open it. He watches her. "I don't bite" he assures. Whether or not it's reassuring. "And I'm unarmed." Now that is a joke and the smile reaches his eyes.

"So I'm told on occasion." That he's good.

"I don't know, River. Are we?" He looks at her curiously and opens the door for her. Perhaps guessing at the answer. Or at least showing he's willing.
River Banks     "That right there Jason is a bold faced fuckiin' lie an' we both know it." River states, her lips forming a bow as she waggles a finger at his chest-height, adn then he opens the door.

And she looks to Jason, and gives a sidelong grin. Her cheeks and ears pink, and she gives a nod. "YEah, yeah, that means you ain't a stranger an' kin drive me home... but--" she pauses, slipping into the seat and reaching for the seatbelt to buckle in.

"-- we see that rat bastard I'm gettin' out."
Jason Todd Jason Todd closes the door and walks around the back of the car to the driver's side and drops into the seat.

Then engine rumbles to life and he pulls out onto the street, driving quite sanely.

"No, I'm pretty sure I'm still strange."

A nod at the thing about the rat bastard. "Of course. Can I just clip him with the fender before I let you out at least?" It's a joke. Probably.
River Banks     "An' maybe damage or get some stain on your car? Is it worth it?" she asks, and then River gives a shrug. "Your jar, your rules." she states, and she tilts back a little.

"An' you are strange. All you hero types are. But I think Ah can forgive you that one."
