Owner Pose
River Banks     The Dixon Docks, home to the Dixon Dockyard Dogs, peddling in guns, drugs, and prostitution. It was not a safe place after dark, and anyone who had business here often went hurrying away and staying well away of anyone who may cross their paths.

Except in one alleyway, where there had been a fight recorded on a noise complaint.

Ka-DING! That's the sound of one Dockyard Dog hitting the back end of a dumpster, and then immediately whipped into a steel door.

It's true that she's been in physical fights before, but taking on some veteran scrappers who'd taken on Bats before, she was in a bit of a pickle!

She was getting backed into a corner, her eyes narrowed, a little blood coming down from the airsoft mask she was using for armor as she brought her hands up, breathed out in a soft huff, and took a defensive scrapper's stature -- it is aboslutely clear that she was trained to rob banks, not punch people.

She was trying to get them pulled back to some water containers that she could use to her advantage. It's just slow going.
Jason Todd Some times you just can't get a person to stay out of trouble. You tell them, you show them. you even assist them financially and they just keep getting into trouble.

So thinks Red Hood as he nears the reported noise complaint. He knew River was there because, well, becaus he slipped a tracker into her phone's OS previously.

The dark car he drives rolls up to the mouth of the alley, lights illuminating the shadows as he steps out.

"Didn't your mothers ever teach you it's bad karma to mistreat a woman?" Hood's voice asks witha menacing tone as he steps around the door and starts walking briskly toward the group with River beyond them. "You okay?"
River Banks     Did it purely out of concern for her wellbeing, we're sure. And it's not like she's getting into BAD trouble. She just needed to have words with someone and one thing lead to another and now she's breaking noses in back alleys.

"Had it under control." Riptide states from behind the mask she was wearing. Nevermind that her knuckles were bleeding and there was a dark spot under her shirt where it looks like one of her older injuries might have opened.

The five Dockyard Dogs who were fighting her all pause as the car lights up the alleyway, and they look to one another, then look at Hood.

"Hey, she ain't a Bat, this don't concern *you*." one of them brightly states, and swings a tire iron at Jason!
Jason Todd Red Hood shrugs, "Sure looks like it." That it's under control.

"Guess I'll help you take things wild and crazy then."

The tire iron swings but stops as it is grasped in Red Hood's armored glove. "A tire iron? Seriously?" His free hand reaches behind his back to pull out a crow bar that once once spraypainted bright read though it has long since gebun flaking off. On the straightened end, it has been wrapped with hockey tape for extra grip.

"I can do you one better" he challenges as he swingsit down to catch the thug's ankle with the curved end of the bar and jerks upward quickly.
River Banks     "OH goodie. I was about to get bored." River answers back, and close enough that she's near water, she pulls a trio of pint-sized balls as the five are distracted by Red Hood, and they freeze over into icy balls of doom.

As one jerk is jerked upwards quickly by the crowbar at his ankle with a 'waaaugh!' of alarm, and another guy gets the back of his knees collapsed inwards, going down hard as a third ball of ice hits him in the face.

"Chill out a bit." River states to her hapless victim.

The other three choose their targets. Two draw knives and come after Red Hood, the third turns around and swings fists at Riptide!
Jason Todd Red Hood doesn't seem concerned about the double team. "Oh no. What shoudld I do?" He holds the crowbar up, blocking a slashing attack before swinging the bar down and around to hook the man's wrist with the curved in. A bit of pressure and there is a CRACK as the wrist is broken and the man cries out in agony.

Following with a kick, the thug is knocked down and he turns to focux on the second thug.
River Banks     The second thug might have taken a self-defense course after tangling with the Bats before. He stays out of Crowbar reach, trying to dance, looking for an opening like he's some kind of prize wining boxer.

"C"mon Red Punk, imma mess your whole day up!" he boasts loudly, and then takes a stolen(!) GCPD taser gun out of his jacket and attempts to give Red Hood a taze-t of his own medicine!

Riptide is handling her guy well; dodging his blows and blocking one with the iceball before delivering a cold ball-to-the-chin manuver that sends him slamming against the wall!
Jason Todd It's like the thung thinks the Bat Family doesn't prepare for situations like this.

The taser fires but Red Hood stands there as the two probes streak toward him, trailing the thin wires. The barbed tips strike his armor but nothing happens.

"Did you actually think those would work through armor?" he scoffs as he pulls out one of his pistols and counter fires a single taser round at the thug.

Looking to Riptide, Hood starts to close in but waits to see if she can handle him. Not that he doubted her. When the thug hits the wall and slowly slides down, he looks at her, "Nice. Friends of yours?"
River Banks     "... well kinda -AH AH AH AH AH AH AH---!!!" the goon states, looking at first dejected that his cunning plan didn't work, and then rather shocked! Well, that's probably because of the taser round.

HEr guy goes down, and Riptide lets her shoulder go limp, bringing her arm around to let her hand carefully investigate.

"Can you beleive creeps hang around bodegas to try and sell shit and bully eight year olds?" Riptide asks, and she winces, bringing her arm up against the wall and with an unpleasent POP, she puts her shoulder back in. And looks a bit green around the gills as she stumbles.

"They took my wallet. Had to get it back." she states, holding up a ladies' wallet with a couple of cartoon ponies on it.
Jason Todd Behind his mask, he frowns. "Is he okay?" Rio of course.

Then she resets her shoulder without asking for help and he regards her with a new measure of respect. That is not a move anyone willingly does to themselves. It hurts. Like more than hell.

"Good that you went to get it back" he says with quiet approval as he sets about zip tying the three thugs, wrists behind their backs and then ankles to wrists. They've earned the special hot-tied for justice treatment.

Speaking quietly, presumedly to someone he's just gotten on speed dial, "Three purse snatchers to pick up. Dixon Docks, the alley between Perez and Martson."

Turning to her, "I'm sure they'll be willing to donate whatever they're carrying to you in restitution." He always robs the robbers. Usually not the petty sort. But hey. Criminals are criminals.

"Once you've got what you need or want, let's get going. GCPD will be around to pick up the trash."
River Banks     "He's all right. He ducked and ran home all upset he lost the card. Luckily I tagged my wallet, so I was able to track these chuckleheads down." River replies, and she she winces, "I don't think that set right. GOnna be bruised as all Hell tomorrow." she states as she looks to the one who had attempted to taze Jason, and makes a face beneath her mask. "Ugh. This one lost control. Poor wee lamb." she remarks, and looks back to Red Hood as she tests her hand, and deciding that she can handle the pain of her shoulder for a while longer before going to ice it, she makes a shrug.

    "You drivin'?"
Jason Todd Watching her he nods, "Figured you could use a ride home. You're not really in the condition to deal with another bunch of idiots trying rob you. How're the other injuries healing?" he asks with genuine concern. He knows all about doing this sort of 'work' with lingering injuries and wounds not fully healed. It isn't a great idea.

Moving back to the car, he opens the passenger door for her and waits.
River Banks     "Such a gentleman." River teases lightly. IT's easy to see when she switches off Riptide; Riptide is cold and calm. River's warm.

And she eases herself into the car as she leans back, and reaches up with her good hand to take off her mask. She got hit; looks like her nose might be a little broken.

"Oh. Well. Y'know." she coughs dryly "No rest means sometimes the tissue's gonna complain. Had to get that card back. Can't rely on you for everythin'." she comments quietly.
Jason Todd Red Hood snorts. "If I'm anything, a gentleman is the farthest thing from it."

Closing the door, he moves around and drops into the driver's seat and quickly takes off. No one wants to answer 20 questions with the Boys in Blue.

"No, you're right. If only because everyone needs to know how to take care of themselves. Doesn't mean a bit of help and a hand up can't happen along the way." Meaning the work has to be done by the person in question, not the one holding out the hand.

"Rio's at home?"

"You need to get that shoulder and your nose looked at. Need to call him? Tell him you'll be a little late getting back?" Because he's already decided their next destination is to be Dr. Thompkins.
River Banks     "Yeah, he downloaded one of them vintage game things and has been alterin' half the fighters in the games to look like you an' various bat people. Smart as a whip. Gonna be trouble once he figures out the parental control password." she gives a proud sounding breath of air out, and sniffs a bit as she reaches up to touch her nose.

"Ain't like it's never been broke before. Jus' usually it's my own fault" she lies, "an' not a cheap shot to the face..." she trails off, and she looks over to Jason.

"Didn't know you were much of a mother hen." she remarks, and she takes out her phone. "Yeah, I should give him a ring. Didn't think I'd have to travel to the docks to get my wallet back." she pauses a moment, and then gives a quiet, contemplative look to Jason.
Jason Todd "Well, I can get you a password generator he won't crack" he offers with a conspiratorial tone. "But that's good. Progamming and coding is a good field to get into. The whole world is digital now."

Glancing at her, Red Hood's frown is in his voice, "It's never your own fault, River. Anyone that says that needs a few bones of their own broken." Because that's the sort of thing an abuser says and that is the sort of person that makes Red Hood more than a little angry.

"You don't really give me any choice, River. You keep getting into trouble, someone's got to look out for you. For Rio's sake." Because what happens to him if something happens to her?
River Banks     River opens her mouth to argue, and then she shuts it. She turns her gaze away, looking in her reflection in the window briefly.

"Well, you said you don't do sidekicks. And ain't like the Bats are hirin'." she mutters, "I gotta do what I gotta do." she states defensively. Which means looking out for Rio.

And she pulls her hand away from her nose, and digs her phone out.

"... Gawd I look like Hell." she mutters, and then she calls.

The phone's picked up on the first ring, and Rio is obviously excited.

"RIVER. Did you get 'em? Were there like, a million of them? Did you throw any of them into the ocean and then go 'SPWOOOSH! Rawr now you're all wet!'?" he asks rapid-fire, the phone on speaker because River's too dizzy to hold it up to her face.

"Yeah buddy, I got 'em. I got my wallet back. Didn't toss any of 'em into the ocean."

"'Cause you don't throw trash in the ocean!" the kid excitedly burbles.

"That's right. We don't throw trash in the ocean."
Jason Todd "I can't take care of myself. Nevermind trying to look after someone else on the streets."

He'll just do it this way apparently.

"Batman doesn't advertise for new help, no." Even when he might need it. That's another matter.

As she prepares to call he notes, "Maybe. But that's why I'm taking you to see the Doc." To try and help her get past looking like hell all the time.

He can't help but smirk a bit at Rio's enthusiasm. He's a good kid though.

While she has it on speaker he drives sanely, so as to try and avoid tipping off the world's smartest kid that she is riding with Red Hood.
River Banks     "So you're on your way back home?" Rio inquires.

"I'm... gonna apparently stop somewhere first --?" River looks at Jason with a confused expression, and then she tilts her head back, and breathes out "Ran into Red HOod. He told me I should get my face looked at. On account a' my face." she jokes, "So here's what we're gonna do. You brush your teeth, an' head to bed. An' make sure the new lock on the door's secure, an' lock the window in the kitchen. I can jimmy it open when I get in." she states, "You get all your homework done?"

"Yeeeah yeaaaah. HOmework's done, prepped for tomorrow, tablet's charging, an' you got the rest a' dinner you didn't eat in the microwave covered up."

"All right. I'll see you in the morning, squish."

"See you in the mo-- YOU RAN INTO RED HOOD -- did he ask about me?"

    "Rio..."

"Did you tell him I've been watching martial arts videos and I can do a roundhouse kick now?!"

    "/Rio/..."
Jason Todd Red Hood just shakes his head. Of course the kid was going to figure it out.

"I did, Rio" he admits loud enough to be heard. "Your sister's alright. I'll have her home before long. Listen to her." At least he didn't say to stay in school.

He isn't about to take on the topic of martial arts and kicks. That is only going to end in more trouble. Still? No. Absolutely not.
River Banks     "HI RED HOOD! Thanks for keeping an eye on River, I know she's trouble."

"Thanks, Rio. Brush yer teeth, go to bed."

"Yeah, yeah, squish, be home by four or you're grounded!" Rio states "Bye Red Hood!"

And the phone call ends, and River gives a small laugh, and another dry cough. "He thinks the world of you. An' he's not wrong. You're pretty all right for an asshole." RIver jokes, and leans against the door a bit.

"So, is the Doc gonna yell at me for taking punches with my face?" she asks, and gives a small laugh "An' I can just picture you sittin' in the waiting room readin' Better Homes and Back Alleys." she teases Jason, and then lets that smile falter.

"... thanks. Ah Promise, it's not gonna be like this all the time."
