Owner Pose
Laura Kinney Mutant Town. With rampant poverty, crime, violence and danger it makes a relaxing place to visit for anyone who lives in Gotham full time. And given one X-23 has been largely based out of the Outsiders secret base in Gotham for the last few years... Well anywhere short of Bludhaven seems like an improvement. (Madripoor might be more dangerous but the weather is a thousand times nicer. So it still counts as an improvement!)

The petite former assassin isn't exactly unknown to the Xavier's crowd, her sister went there for school after all, and like many of the true alumni she mooches off the schools resources from time to time. But a lot of her business involves collecting intel for active operations. Or having people trying to kill her.

Sometimes both.

Today it's the intel she's after. A message dead drop point. Envelope with the memory card from a camera duct taped to the underside of one of the rare benches in Bushwick. Which is why she's loitering a way away drinking a milkshake (strawberry) which bears the logo of Mootant Town Milkshakes on the cup.

Lesson one when collecting from a dead drop. Make sure no-one is watching before you collect it. So you don't wind up dropping dead. Something that's less of a concern for Laura given her power. But there are innocent bystanders around so probably it's best to be cautious anyway!
Joshua Foley Benches and other public places are often used for dead drops. It's an easy, efficent thing to set up and execute and usually go fairly easily.

Today, there's a small with the planned pickup from the bench that was marked for Laura earlier. Currently, there's someone sitting in it. Laura might recognize the young man sitting there as he takes his break between deliveries to enjoy a burger.

Joshua and Laura had bumped into the school a few times in the past, but not in a while. And as he works with one hand over the keyboard of his phone, taking pictures and sending messages, there's also one other thing that make him hard to immediately recognize.

The golden skin that covers his body is new, after all. And very very attraction grabbing.
Laura Kinney A new skin is far from the weirdest thing a Xavier student has picked up. And while skin pigmentation might vary the way a person smells? That changes less than you might think. And with all the mutants at Xavier's? That's a pretty distinct aroma. Laura could pick a Xavier student out from scent alone. It wouldn't even be all that tricky, given she's met most of the staff there, and the combination of those trace smells from associates and the boarding school dorm room smells. Mostly of unwashed gym socks and cheap high schooler deodorant.

Ironically still a nicer smell than Gotham in the morning.

A person shaped spanner in the works isn't the worst complication she could have for her dead drop. There's no immediate smells of firearms or explosives. No suspiciously parked vans which could be full of corporate hit squads. And no-one using subvocal microphones in the tell tale undercover agent reporting in with an update way.

With a shrug she drops the empty milkshake container into the trash and begins her approach. Hoodie pulled up to make it harder for anyone to recognise her.

"Pretend you don't know me," she murmurs in a typically weird Kinney greeting. "I'm here for work." No-one at the Mansion, except perhaps Gabby or Logan, know what Laura does in her spare time. But everyone assumes it's dangerous and likely illegal. Because former child assassins with super powers rarely end up working at the DMV....
Joshua Foley When he saw Laura approaching, Joshua had lifed his head from the phone and gave her a look. And while he had recognized her, he was busily trying to place her face when...

'Pretend you don't know me'

Well, alright. He can do that. Taking a bite from his burger, Joshua scoots over to attempt to make room for Laura should she choose to take a seat.

His fingers work over the phone. Tap, tap, tap. And then he holds it down, as if reading it, but in reality, he has it turned just enough so that Laura can see the screen.

'Are you okay? ::worried-face emoji::'
Laura Kinney Laura Kinney doesn't quite snort with amusement at the question. She's not that expressive. But there is a little noise that could be the barest whisper of a laugh as she perches on the edge of the bench. Making sure to keep the sort of wide gap you'd expect from two New Yorkers forced to share a bench. IE the biggest gap physically possible.

"I am fine," she murmurs. Just loud enough to be heard and with so little movement from a distance you probably couldn't even tell she'd spoken at all. "But you wouldn't want to get caught up in my work."

She leans forward, fussing with the (intentionally) untied laces on her combat boots, don't mind her she's just a regular person sorting out her laces!

"But if any guys with military issue body armour and fully automatic weapons zipline down from a helicopter I'd recommend running for cover."

Is this a likely thing which might happen? Probably not. But in Laura's world... Well prepare for the worst and you'll always be pleasantly surprised by life!
Joshua Foley Sometimes, Joshua forgets that not everyone knows about his past life with the Reavers. Before he was revealed to be the mutant he is now. So when she comments on the military issue and fully automatic weapons, he responds in soto-voice. "Not the first time." he admits.

There are other smells around Joshua. Xaviers is there, but it's not the foremost. Smells associated with magic, old magic at that. His foot reaches over, nudging his skateboard. Because that's his escape plan to get out as he takes the last bite of his burger and crumples the wrapper up.
Laura Kinney Laura Kinney finishes messing around with her laces and, in a motion so well practised it could get her a job as the warm up act for a magic show (the other type of magic), she makes the envelope taped under the bench disappear.

As for the smells of magic. Well those tend to vary a lot based on the practitioner. But usually can be described as musty. Especially if it's old magic along with the accompanying old magic books and assorted magical trappings. It's not something she's as well versed in as her sister Gabby or half sister Rien. But the Outsiders have a magical division. So it's not a mystery either.

"Coast should be clear enough," she admits with a shrug. "I've been watching the site for the last six hours." Her day would have a lot more free time in if she wasn't obsessively focused. "And not a hint of anything unusual."

Laura's hardly well known around the school. Except maybe as Gabby's paranoid big sister. If anything that's an understatement.

"But even so. Take the long way home and keep an eye out for any faces which show up more than once."
Joshua Foley Considering that he works with Gabby on that other team they are on together, Joshua really should learn more about his friend's extended family. As she finishes tidying her boots, Joshua watches Laura for a moment.

"Feel like I'm in one of those spy novels I keep seeing about." he comments. But she takes telling him that the coast is clear is that it's also a sign that he should be making his move to get away in case there is any trouble.

He ponders for a moment. "I don't know if you can or not, but if you ever need help healing..." Yeah. Like that would ever happen. Standing up from the bench, he arches the wrapper into the sky. It bounces off the rim of the basket and thanks to the shape of the can's container, it rolls back and in. Two points!

"Will do..." he promises Laura as he nudges his skateboard over, planting a foot on it. A last glance towards her and he pushes off, his wheels clacking off the indentures in the sidewalk as he goes.
Laura Kinney "I have healing covered pretty well," Laura says, dry amusement in her tone. "If you do get picked up by anyone you may as well tell them what they want to know. It's most likely to be SHIELD and they won't typically hurt a prisoner but... There's always a few agents willing to cut corners for quick results." Aren't SHIELD supposed to be the good guys? But hey mutant vigilantes aren't exactly on the right side of the law at the best of times.

She gives Joshua a good few minutes head start before she gets up to go. Checking her own phone like she's had a text come through while messing with her boots. A blocky old cellphone. Pre-smartphone era. The sort of phone only used by luddites and people who want untraceable burner phones.

And then she's off. Moving with a brisk pace and slipping into the crowd. And within moments she's gone as mysteriously as she arrived.
