Loki "Mother," Loki is already saying. There's no preamble, no polite words and greeting and catching up -- no, this entirely just leaping right into something. That suggests several things, though most of all that Loki's got a hyperfocus on a project, problem, or curiosity, and doesn't feel the mood to wander around the subject before getting to it. He trusts her, is the biggest part to that: he doesn't take time to judge how she'll react or position himself socially first.

"Have you seen one of these before?" Loki asks. He's materialized with a flare of his green and golden magic, and has an object, an amulet, hovering mid-air above his left palm, circling slowly. It gleams with a malicious blue light - something reacting against Loki's magic that is containing whatever nefarious magics are pulsing from inside it!
Frigga It's something that Frigga takes pleasure in; there is very little judgement when it comes to her sons. She'll show disappointment, but she'll never turn away from them. It's been proven over and over...

So when Loki arrives, and dispenses with greetings beyond the attention-getting 'Mother', Frigga turns around, her head canting, the smile for her son on her face. "Loki," and beyond that, she does fall silent as he begins, or rather continues.

The flare of magic is something that is of second nature for the two; there is no need to hide it. It simply is. When he presents the object, there hanging in space, Frigga lowers her head, studying it for a long moment. Even with Loki's formidable ability to keep the power contained, it still can be felt, that malevolent force. "It's looking for a master," Frigga murmurs. Looking up at her son, her gaze looks concerned, "Where did you find it?"
Loki "I think so, too. But I don't think it has a positive effect on the choice it makes for master," Loki answers. He turns the inside of his wrist, causing the object to rotate a little upside-down.

"I don't think it has visual perception. Maybe emotional; I've stayed calm and it hasn't burst."

When asked the question of where he found it ... "Found it on an enemy I defeated," Loki says smoothly. There's no signs of damage on Loki, so either the fight was pretty one-sided (which can be normal for an illusionist to never take a hit), or it wasn't recent, and the item has been stored.

"He didn't use magic, so I don't think he made this. Perhaps it controlled him in some way. It's unusual," Loki says, leaving it steady for Frigga to get a good look or to cast upon.
Frigga Loki's turn of phrase brings a soft, breathy laugh, her head shaking in agreement with him. "No, I think not." Her words are soft between them, and for his ears only. "Does it have rudimentary mobility? Have you any tug at your mind for it seeking to pair?"

The thought of her son in battle has Frigga's crystal clear blue eyes looking at her son fully again, searching for any sign of injury. A scratch, a bruise... it's a mother's concern. With nothing so noted, her attention returns to the amulet. Now, she reaches a hand out to take it, her own shields easily in place.

"It had writing," Frigga begins again. "A talisman. Did you notice anything while he wore it? Any writing? I can't make out the whispers of it, not without studying it further."
Loki "Yes, it wants me to keep it," Loki says easily, but with his cocky tone high in that statement. He is aware it wants that, but isn't effected. He does prove it: when Frigga extends her magic to take it, Loki releases it into her care without any fight.

That means Loki is curious about it, but not enough to have a big desire to keep it personally. He has a large collection, and this one hasn't yet earned a spot in it.

"It'll try to get on you if you let it," Loki adds. "I've kept it contained, though. It isn't strong if you keep an eye on it. But I bet if you put it in, say, Thor's room, it'd creep up behind him while he was slumbering." Loki isn't suggesting they do that, not really, but he's amused by the image of it.

"Writing, yes, inside. But it's just designs, not actual text. I don't know what the picture means."
Frigga "Of course," Frigga's tones are softly amused in the face of Loki's confidence. The smile remains ghosted on her face as she looks at him, back and forth between his charge and himself.

It's easy enough to take, and to shield. Frigga can feel the press, but it's absolutely nothing that she can't handle. Moving it up before her face, her head cants once more, "Who are you?" she asks to it, and falls silent for a few heartbeats before, "It seeks to fill in gaps. Lack of courage becomes fool-hardiness. Calm becomes anger. Like a switch," she intones softly. "It will write its will upon it, forging that bond."

Just the thought of Loki putting it into Thor's room, even in jest, has Frigga lowering it and offering mock disapprovingly, "You'll do no such thing. Having it creep across the floor at your brother as he slumbers like you'd done with so many other things." There's affection behind it, the glimpse of childhood.

The pictures, however, have Frigga raising the amulet that wants to be a talisman once more, "A whisper. It will change depending upon the wearer. That is the echo of what was given to its last host, I think."
Loki "Yes, yes. I've done it before. Putting it in there would not be original at all: tired and old idea," Loki agrees, with a brisk wave of hand to fan away terrible concepts that are so overplayed and overdone as leaving vicious things in Thor's quarters.

Possibly not the reasoning Frigga would prefer Loki use, but at least it's getting the result. And Loki is smirking, with a gleam in his eyes -- a sharp, hard gleam like the edge of a knife. Loki's well aware of what he says, what it can be taken as.

"You hear a whisper? Hm. It must prefer you." Or Frigga's investigation style is more effective. Loki isn't offended.
Frigga Frigga knows that gleam, and a laugh exits her throat, adding one of those //mom// looks that he is so familiar with. "Okay," she concedes, "I have no doubt you can come up with something else with which to torment your brother." There is added silently, however, that //be kind//. "As he can with you. It is getting harder to intercede between you both." That is also said quite lovingly.

She returns her attention to the amulet, and considers for another long moment before handing it back. She's obviously not afraid of it, nor apparently over concerned that her son should have possession of it. There is implicit trust there. "Think back to your fight, and consider his strategies. It should give you a glimpse of what it had done. But, I don't have to tell you to keep it from those of less practiced mind than we. I'll do some research and see what it is I can find, if you'd like." And undoubtedly she can trace the magic lines back, once she's got a good, solid image.
Loki "We're not currently in a state of all-out murder, so I don't think I really need the /correction/," Loki says, a little more stiffly, of being told that she doesn't want to intercede. Though naturally, were Loki in a murder-minded state, he wouldn't want her interference anyway!

"If you're interested, keep it for now. I'd like to know what it is, though if it has to be destroyed... fine." Loki doesn't have a big interest in it: it was something he found and removed from a villain's possession. "It's not /my/ style anyway, I wouldn't have a use for it, beyond learning from it for other spells or ideas. But I don't think it's potent, just ... odd."
Frigga The hint of pique that rises from her younger son has Frigga reaching out to touch his hand gently in soft apology, or at least to soften what might be a misunderstanding.

She does retract her hand, and with it, the amulet that wants to become a talisman once again. Lifting that free hand once more, she waves it above the item, and it disappears from view. They both know where it's gone; a holding area for just such items, to be withdrawn again at will. "It might be interesting to see how their spells work. May be interesting," Frigga muses, "something that I simply don't consider; shoring up weaknesses. We all have those, as well as strengths. To use such ability to the positive might be worthwhile." There's a quick nod of her head in agreement thereafter, "I agree. It's not potent, not strong. There's no crashing at the walls for freedom. Opportunistic, certainly, but nothing you and I could not handle, either personally or for another."

There is something of a finality to her tones on the topic, words on released breath, "It is strange, and I wonder who crafted it. That, I think, will be the more interesting."
Loki "Even if I had a weakness," Loki begins -- arrogant perhaps, "I wouldn't want a magical talisman to alter it. Though I could see someone that had depression or another problem ... maybe. But not /this/ item. I think it's too mean-spirited to actually fix what would be a true trouble, and not reverse something else, uncontrolled." Loki eyes it again, and flashes a quick little smile.

"But maybe a similar object could, with better finesse. I leave it in your care, then," Loki says, with a renewed and sudden warmth. It's just a little bit, a spark, before he shifts topics. "I thought I'd stay for supper," Loki adds. Onward to more important things....
