Morrigan MacIntyre Happy Harbor students, faculty and some alumni had boarded a bus with the destination of New York City as the end. The kids have been given stipends to buy presents or whatever they wanted to spend the money on. Meals had been provided and the end to the trip was going to Rockefeller Center for enjoyment of the lights and the ice skating rink.

Though people didn't have to ice skate if they didn't want to. There were plenty of other things to do around the area like get hot chocolate and hang out and be a normal person. Or make an attempt at it.

"I don't think we've lost anyone yet." Riordan muses to Morrigan as she finds a bench to settle on near the ice skating rink. "Yet is the key word. Though I'm hoping we can make it to the New Year without any more incidents." she tells him.

And obviously since this is a very public place there are good chances that other known and unknown faces might show up.
Damian Wayne Damian keeps track of the Happy Harbor emails as an alumni of the school. When the event notice went out for ice skating, he forwarded it to Gabby and after getting her affirmative, made plans to be there for the evening. He borrowed one of the cars from the Manor...

...and let Gabby drive, don't tell anyone. Especially dad.

After arriving at the center and unloading a small bag with their skates and such, a hand was offered to Gabby. For hand-holding.

And the car keys.
Gabby Kinney Gabby Kinney drove perfectly well thank-you-very-much! She'd gotten the best of driving instruction from the Queen of Genosha (before she was Queen) and Namor who she was pretty sure didn't have a license, but he was there so she counts it. She's actually pretty good at driving. Her reflexes are on point, her observation keen, and she doesn't relish the idea of being pulled over by the police for racing. Not a bad mix, all considered, and she gets them there not only in one peice but in one comfortably not-bruised peice.

When she hops out of the car the keys are tossed toward Damian with a wink of amusement. "See? Just because I usually ride a motorcycle doesn't mean I don't know how to drive," she remarks only to step closer to him letting her shoulder bump into his as they arrive.

"You know, I actually went to Happy Harbor for one year. I thought I'd try 'real' public school. Heck," she adds with a chuckle of recollection, "I even won a science fair award for my re-creation of the Yellowstone super volcano. I did include the use of Diet Coke and Mentos for the erruption."
Reed Richards Reed Richards reed is in normal, state stretched thin. He is reaching into the sky to a floating platform that is positioned over the Festive area.
It is the traditional Fantastic Light Show that FantatsiCorp has donated to the city as part of the holiday display. The unit originated a few years ago as part of a charity drive that spiraled out of control and caused a drain on Mahattan's Power grid. Reed entered the fray and solved the power problems with his entry even as it lit the night sky.
It is a bit reminiscent of the airships seen in Gotham but this one has no law enforcement aspect. It is pure joy made of lights that move and create wondrous displays. It's currently dark as Reed works muttering to himself high above he heads of the crowd. He is wearing his traditional blue uniform, lab coat and a head lamp. Holding a set of very specific tools, the box doesn't at all say Craftsman.
Lara Croft One of many faces in the crowd tonight, Lara is seated at one of the nearby benches, tending to her skates with a little hand towel, wiping off one of the blades before she leans down to slide it on to her right foot. Wearing a black leather jacket, with a blue scarf wrapped around her neck, and black leggings, Lara quietly exhales a puff of steam as her last skate is laced up. Sitting up straight there-after, she reaches for her cell phone, and taps out a text message that is popped off to someone, before she takes a moment to stare at the response that arrives swiftly seconds later.

Her phone is tucked in to her jacket's side pocket, as the British woman rises up to her bladed feet. She lets her eyes scan over others nearby, watching the displays of festive events taking place tonight. A brief smile touches her pale pink lips as she strokes her right hand across the mess of loose brown locks of hair framing her face. "Right then.." She mutters as she walks on bladed boots toward the entry to the rink, her left gloved hand reaching out to brace herself as she tentatively steps out on to the ice, and begins to push off, her skills of skating muscle memories returning to her mind now once her sharpened blades cut across the sheet of white ice.
Caleb Dykstra Coming with the group is Caleb, with his kid sister Sheila by his side. She's all starry-eyed, looking at the object he has under his arm, something like a large, wide skateboard, with a system of fans in the back, and rails on the bottom side - something that came to him for the Holiday season, something he's been studying and developing.

"Y-you're gonna let me try it, right?", Sheila asks. "You gotta let me try it!"

"Sheila, this isn't even tested on ice yet", he says.

"Aw, come on! I'm sure there won't be any problem!", she insists.

"You don't know the controls for the board, kiddo. I'm not about to play with your safety."

She pouts in frustration, about not having any fun.

"You'll get to ride it after I worked out the kinks, if there be any. Deal?", Caleb consoles, and the girl nods hopefully.

He sets the board by the rink, and starts to go over the controls...
James Barnes     The rink is old enough that Bucky remembers it from when he was younger. He's not here to reminisce, not really; he'd just been out on the streets for a bit, and one random turn after another random turn ended up with him here, and... might as well, right?

He's not skating, though. For now he's standing above the rink, looking over it as he leans against the railing. He's across from the statue, which certainly gives a good view of the tree. And of the general comings and goings, too, which is a habit Bucky can't quite leave behind. So he definitely notices a few faces in the arriving crowd that are familiar; some moreso than others, admittedly.

For now, however, he doesn't approach. He's just a totally random guy. In all black. With one glove on. And a scowl.

    Totally random guy!
Morrigan MacIntyre Morrigan's wearing sunglasses, which honestly is not the weirdest thing going on in the vacinity. The Irish woman gives a look over to Riordan and there's a bit of a smile, "Honestly as long as everyone gets home without broken bones that's about as much as I'll ask for tonight." she tells the tattooed man. "Did you want hot chocolate or something? I know you don't need it, but...it's good." she muses to him.
River Banks     Around the rink a boy wearing a black-and-red jacket, a GOTHAM CITY ACADEMY pompom hat in black and gold, and a black scarf wrapped around the bottom of his face is running, watching the skaters with wide, brown eyes. He has a Red Hood Batmite toy sticking out of his pocket.

"I WANNA SKATE!" he calls out to the person running behind him. River is flailing slightly, some shopping tucked under one arm in a canvas bag. She's just wearing a blue watchcap and a pair of good, second hand gloves and a black jacket, though her scarf was white as she tries to control the eight-year-old.

"You don't even know HOW to skate, Rio! Don't run off!" River warns, reaching out to grab at the boy's jacket. "Y'all ain't too big for me to ground you, an' this is outta Hood's hood. So be good, or Santa's not gonna stop at our place!"
Damian Wayne Catching the keys, Damian chuckles. "I never had any doubt, I just wanted to give you the chance." he points out with a grin as he slips the keys into his pocket for later. Bumping his shoulder back to Gabby's, the pair of them walk to the rink, his eyes raising at her story. "Really, must have been before I did. Father insisted I go to... acquire social skills. I was bored." he admits dryly.

As he notices Morrigan, a hand is raised to her in greetings. "Headmistress!" he greets with a small smile, before he notices Caleb ... and the machine. His expression sours just a moment, and he frowns. "Do not destroy the ice. I would like to skate tonight." he comments as he looks down at the board.

Looking back up, it is someone about to take to the ice that gets Damian's attention. In the art and museum world, Lara Croft has shown up to more than one Gotham function hosted by one of the Waynes, and Damian's attention is piqued as he slips on his skates.

He turns his attention to Gabby a nod of his head towards the skater. "That's one of the biggest patrons to the Gotham Museum fund. Would you mind if we said hello?"
Reed Richards The Festive Light platform finally lights and boots up with its customary FantastiCorp Logo and then goes into a quick patteran of lighht and chimes, testing all its functions before coming fully online and beggining to play Chritsmas Carols from a donated list of holiday favorites. The lights go through a series of complicated geometric patterns in festive holiday colors, as the holo emitters project waving Santas and dancing snowmen into the night sky.
It's a lovely show, until it conks out again and Reed Blinks up at it and frowns halfway to the ground rising up again to look for what went wrong.
Caleb Dykstra "Hello to you too, Damian", Caleb replies, replicating Damian's tone to him. "I wouldn't worry - this is supposed to work on the same principles as a hovercraft, not an ice breaker", he states, "If it works the way I hope it will, that is." He grins, "I mean, it could leave a crater in the ice, but that is a really, really, really small chance."

He looks at Gabby and waves, "Greetings! I'm Caleb." He points to the girl beside him, inspecting the workings, "This is Sheila, my sister."

Overhearing the headmistress, he says, "Hello, Dr. MacIntyre. There sould be no broken anythings." Which could almost seem like having Wile E. Coyote strapped to a rocket - what could go wrong?
Gabby Kinney "Probably, it was years ago. My first year in school actually. I mean. Actual school outside of the labs," Gabby explains while giving an indifferent shrug. Her own gaze had swept around the area taking in a few familiar faces. Morrigan, as Damian greets her. Then there's a particular old man who doesn't look as old as he should.

Spotting Bucky she cracks a grin only to start in that direction without really thinking. Usually she was just the one that ran up to annoy and greet others, and she wasn't part of a pair. She stops short though, pausing and then Damian asks about greeting Lara as well.

"Sure," she agrees only to gesture at the emo-looking man with one glove. "But we got to go bug him too, he's one of mine," she explains with a grin of amusement.
Lara Croft Lara did a few quick circles to get her skating legs back beneath her, practicing her cross overs taking her in a full circle a few times before she slowed her momentum with a T-stop leading her back to the edge of the rink where a drink vendor was offering cups of hot beverages.

She waits in line behind a family, smiling at the energetic behavior of the children wanting the most sugar filled options available. But when it comes her turn, Lara simply asks for a cup of hot tea with a bit of honey.

As she waits for her order, her eyes scan the rink, and beyond. She eventually does notice a familiar face in Bucky, and a moment of surprise touches her as she hadn't expected to see him here of all places. Sadly he's much too far away for her to acknowledge him, but she does smile softly for a moment.

When her tea is handed to her, she thanks the vendor, and pushes off with one foot, starting her slow casual stride away from the side of the rink toward the flow of traffic making their way around it.
James Barnes     Despite recognizing a fair few places here tonight, Bucky isn't too surprised. Despite New York being a city of over 8 million, he finds he runs into people on the street on a regular basis. Maybe too regular, given his antisocial nature.

Though it's Gabby's aborted attempt to come over to him that gets a physical reaction, in that Bucky pushes himself up from his lean over the railing. Is he going to run? Naaaah. Though he does shove his hands into the pockets of his jacket as he starts a slow path around the rink, in Gabby's general direction. Look at him go. He's actually coming over of his own free will!

That's what we call character development. Though he does seamlessly sidestep back towards the railing when it becomes clear Gabby and Damian are going to talk with someone else first. He can wait. Old folks usually have a lot of patience.
River Banks     "But I wanna skate!" the kid protests loudly before the blonde young woman gives a grin, and pulls his hat down further on his head.

"You don't know how ta skate, and Ah don't know how tah skate. We don't get ice like that in 'Bama or Florida." River Banks chides her young brother gently. "But we kin watch 'em go." she states, adjusting her shopping in one arm and straining to pick up her brother in the other like when he was extra little as she passes by the group of Damian and Gabby. She's got a weird mix of scents on her, the girl's southern twang and the boy's obvious Gotham City gear.

"... you spent all your money on gifts an' that's why we can't skate, ain't it?" RIo asks, looking to River.

    River gives an embarrassed grin.

    "You can't skate anyway."

River looks over to the 'old man' leaning against the railing, and she gives an upnod and smile at him as she leans against the railing to help relieve herself of Rio and her shopping's weight.

"Lessie. That there's a headmistress of a school. Ah recognize her from the papers. An' that there? She's a Brit noble. Ah saw her face in the newspaper when I did that temp work at the museum. An' Ah'm pretty sure that's a Wayne."

"That *is* a Wayne. There's a picture of him at my school!"
Morrigan MacIntyre Morrigan gives a wave to Damian and to Gabby. She kind of looks at bit like she doesn't know where Caleb comes up with the funds or the parts for these things that he drags out in public, but...that was his business. "That...looks fun?" Riordan points out to the board.

"Yeah, just as long as nothing gets broken. I had to heal Damian's leg ages ago after an incident." she chuckles.

But she is ultimately distracted by a face that she has not seen in a very long time. Riordan notices though and gives a look to her, "Not going to say hello?" he asks her quietly.
Reed Richards Reed Richards fiddles with a few knobs and checks connections he slides over the ship with a snake like grace and makes sure that each part is properly connected. He calibrates the cosmic ray collectors and adjust the bossard scoops, altering the power output, muttering under his breath. "No more than enough power available... " He stops scratching his chin pondering and pondering til his ponderer gets sore.

He picks up a rubber mallet and gives the main control panel a collosal thwack!

There is a few moments of silence and then the FantastiCorp Light show leaps into full holiday merriment, with a holographic red and green candy based fireworks show. The spreads and confetti and glitter over the arrayed merry makers and skaters. They both evaporate as they reach the ground leaving little more than joy and fond memories. Reed nods primly and whispers to the rubber mallet, "We will never speak of this, my little friend." He sips it back into his tool kit and then relaxes his body back towards the ground, easily and lighty, as the light display and carols continue. he wipes his hands on his lab coat and smiles at a job well done, well, at least completed.

"And now... egg nog." he says to no one at all.
Lara Croft Lara comes to a gradual halt as she sees the impressive display being projected up in to the sky. With both of her gloved hands wrapped around the cup of hot tea, she sips from it while enjoying what entertainment is put on by the man in the blue suit. A glance is given toward River's direction, along with a smile for her before she looks back up toward the sky.

She doesn't pull her phone from her jacket pocket to record it, like so many others are, instead just letting her eyes record it for her memory. When she eventually begins to skate again, she ends up moving past Reed's general location, calling out to him from the ice rink. "Beautiful show!" She says, on her way past, her skate blades sending up a little spray of shaved ice as she makes a sharp turn to keep up with the flow of festive skaters.
Nico Minoru What's winter in Manhattan without going ice skating at Rockefeller Center.

A vision of black and white, the gothling witch wanders towards the skating rink, not really recognizing anyone as of yet.

Wrapped up in a white thick coat that goes down to half way her thighs, with little bits of black seen underneath, Nico looks around. It's then that she recognizes at least one person.

That would be the patriarch of the first family and she mutters, "Holy shit, that's Reed Richards." to no one in particular.
Caleb Dykstra Continuing to set up the board, Caleb closes the lid and climbs on top, resting his feet and adjusting posture, practicing and getting used to it; he leans forwards, then backwards, then tilts to the sides. He takes a deep breath, and looks at Sheila, who steps back after he gestures her to. He grabs a handle, connected to the board via what looks like a bungee cord. "Well... I guess here goes nothing..." And he presses a button...

*FWOOOOOSH!!*

"SONUVA...!!" Caleb almost makes the full flip as the skate goes sliding from under his feet. And he splats on the ground! As a failsafe, luckily, once you let go of the handle, the skate comes to a stop, cutting off the power and prevent the device from becoming an obstacle in the middle of all the people.

He quickly gets up, gesturing for Sheila to go bring back the device as he cleans the snow off him. "Okay... Looks like the tilt was stuck..." He pulls out a screwdriver. "Recalibrate!"
River Banks     "And that's Reed Richards --" Rio relates to his older sister, pointing out Richards before suddenly there is a FWOOSH!

Caleb goes splatting into the ground into the snow, and River takes a deep breath, setting Rio down and pointing at him.

    "Do not. Move."

And she goes to try and aid Caleb with snow removal.

"Hey -- hey! Y'all right there?" she asks, hesitantly stepping up to Caleb.

Rio is right behind her, peering around his sister.
James Barnes     It's not like Bucky to lose people in a crowd. Usually, he's an excellent tracker, especially in urban settings. To be fair, though, he's not actually out to track anyone down today. Really, he's trying hard at this whole normal person thing, which doesn't really include stalking people like the Predator.

    Yes, he's seen that movie.

He takes note of the holiday display floating down from up above, but given the guy's already all in black with a resting grump face, is it any surprise that he's not partaking in the holiday festivities? Bucky finishes his half-circuit around the rink, now confronted by the giant figure of the tree, which he frowns as he stares up at. Were they always that big? He doesn't remember them being that big when he was a kid.
Nico Minoru Splat! There's a bit of a squint as she notices the commotion with Caleb and the board. Nosewrinkling, Nico shakes her head, as she heads towards one of the benches so she can put on her own skates, black of course.

After a little bit, she finally makes her way towards the ice, her gaze flitting about as she takes in the faces of various people to see if she recognizes anyone else. Alas, none so far, and so as Bucky passes by, she finally steps onto the ice, hanging onto the side wall for dear life.

She isn't exactly an experienced skater.
Morrigan MacIntyre Morrigan sighs when she hears the crash, but Duncan is already moving to go investigate and see if Caleb is alright. She gives a grateful look to the man and then looks back to Riordan when he's talking about James. "He doesn't even remember me." she mutters to him.

"Well...go introduce yourself again? If he shoots you it's not like you're going to die." he points out with a bit of a smug look.

"Alright Rio." she tells him. Then she stands up, smoothing out the coat she is wearing and then starts her way towards the Winter Soldier. Or well, James Barnes.

She clears her throat a little when she gets close, "Thankfully it's not cold enough out for your face to freeze in that grumpy look." she states to the man.
Reed Richards Reed Richards smiles and waves easily to Lara, "Hello, Lady Croft. Thank you." He looks up at the display, "It is lovely," Reed hears his name mentioned a few times and he moves into public figure mood, taking selfies and signing autographs, developing a little crowd. He buys out the hot chocolate vendor, "Free Hot Chocolate for the next half hour." He gets a small cheer.

But Reed doesn't have a hot chocolate, no, he knows a place just a few blocks away and an arm snakes out on a mission winding it's way through the crowd through the hustle and bustle to Gerry's Bar. He ploops down a twenty and Mr. Ordway knows what to do. See, he keeps two dozen drums of aged egg nog in his fridge and sells from the first week in December to the last, he never lets them empty and every January he makes a new batch mixing the old with the new. It is the sweetest smoothest egg nog you will ever taste. but it's ninja egg nog you never see that kick coming.

Reed is sipping a Nog as he poses and signs and it keeps his spirits high as he enjoys the holiday in New York.
Caleb Dykstra "Yeah", he says to River. "Now I know how the robbers from Home Alone must've felt." And chuckles.

Crouching on the floor by the skate Sheila brings back, he opens the lids for adjustment of the tilt controls. While considering, "Hmm, better check the propulsion starter, too..."

He doesn't stop what he's doing when he introduces himself, "I'm Caleb, by the way. And that's Sheila, my sister."

The girl waves, looking at River's younger brother, Rio, her eyes say it all: 'friend'. She looks in the vendor's direction. "Caleb!", she warns, "Free hot chocolate! And Mister Fantastic's right there by the stand!"
River Banks     Rio, with his brown eyes and freckled face, looks up at Sheila and he looks at the Red Hood action figure in his pocket, and then holds it up.

"Hi. Ah'm Rio. This is Red Hood. He's the best hero in Gotham City." he states, sounding fairly intimidated by the girl whose brother just splatted. "An' that's mah older sister River."

"River, and that's my younger brother Rio." River states in her Deep Southern drawl. And she gives an upnod. "That your own design, or somethin' ya picked up outta a comic book backer?" she asks with amusement.
James Barnes     Bucky, of course, had spotted Morrigan earlier. It's not like him to miss something like that, after all. But he'd been hanging back, so yeah, maybe there are still some antisocial tendencies he's dealing with. Or maybe he was trying to be respectful! Who knows.

Either way, he looks up when she approaches, and after her opening comment he does make a visible show of forcing his expression to not look so dour. It doesn't really take.

"I have a very good track record with recovering from being frozen," he responds, shrugging one shoulder lightly. "If I can make it through that, I should be good." There is a lengthy, pregnant pause from his end, which he breaks with, "How are you?"
Morrigan MacIntyre Thank goodness that she's wearing sunglasses, because Morrigan blinks at James very fast when there is no weird look of 'who is this lady'. "Sam didn't tell me you started remembering people again." she muses. "Guess I should have at least asked at some point." she muses to that. "You don't have to worry about your face, I was just teasing." the woman points out gently.

"And yes, you do have an affinity for getting thawed out." she nods to that in agreement. Then she looks up to the tree and there's a bit of a smile, "I'm here. Trying to make sure the students have a good end to this year and all." she states. "How have you been?" she asks him.
Caleb Dykstra "It's my design, backed by a few propulsion projects I consulted on the web", Caleb says. He tightens a few screws on the pannel. "Just need to tighten this up..." A click. "And there! That should do it!"

Looking at Rio, he says, "You know... Red Hood and Power Girl saved my life once back in Gotham, go figure." He looks back to River, "Long story, not for the faint of heart", he warns.

He looks at Reed, and offers a small wave. Then, he looks at Sheila, "Well, tell you what...", he closes the lid of the skate, "Why don't you take Rio here for some, while I boot this little beast up?", he looks at River, "If that's okay, of course."
River Banks     River gives a flat expression.

"Somehow it feels like everythin' that involves Red Hood isn't for the faint of heart. I owe him a life or two at this point." she explains to Caleb, and she rubs at her right shoulder.

"Can I go with Sheila? Y'know, to protect her an' all Riv?" Rio asks.

River looks over. "Stay in sight a' me and mind your manners."
James Barnes     "Everything seems to be working, more or less," Bucky replies. Though he lifts a hand to knock on the side of his head. "Though I can't really say for sure, can I? No way to remember that I'm forgetting to remember."

His gaze follows Morrigan's to the tree, and he narrows his eyes at it, before he looks away, down, towards his feet. "Trying to keep busy." Then he turns away and scans the crowd. "Think I can pick out a few of your students." For a moment or two he definitely zones in on Caleb and River and their siblings, though of course he has no way of knowing who of the group is actually a student of Morrigan's. Either way, he looks away shortly after. "It's good to see you, though."
Morrigan MacIntyre "That is a good thing. I'm happy you've recovered things." Morrigan tells him with a smile. "And sadly no, that's something that I'm not sure anything other than time and work could fix." she states to the man. "Keeping busy is good. I'm sure SHIELD is doing a good job of that." she comments.

She then quirks an eyebrow at the man turning away and scanning the crowd, "Yeah, just a few of them are braving the rink. More of them are shopping. That's Caleb." she points out to him. "He's a good kid, just...he's got a lot on his plate." she tells him.

There is a smile at his words, "It's good to see you as well. You know you don't have to be a stranger." she points out. "Do you have any plans for the upcoming holiday?" she asks him before she thinks about it.
Caleb Dykstra Caleb prepares himself, booting up the sequence, "Uhm... You might wanna step back a little, River. I think I handled the acceleration, but it's better to be safe than sorry." He climbs onto the paltform, ignition stick in hand, and presses...

For a brief moment, it might seem like there's not going to be anything, but all of a sudden... The skateboard actually lifts by just about a centimeter, and ice is blown away in a little cloud.

"It.. It works!"
