Bart Allen Bart Allen did patrols last night, while on break from his job. Having a night job where few are around and being a speedster has it's benefits. So Bart reported back into work and after a shower and a change of clothes we find him walking into the munch. He has in his Red Arrow is the best Arrow t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, with a jacket and hat that both say Gotham Zoo over them. He looks around and heads for a booth, not sure who all will be stopping in this morning.
Mary Turner     Strix is bundled up like she was living in the arctic. Thick pants and one of those thick puffy fur-lined jackets adorn her, and her bandage wrappings has found their way back to being wound around her head. This doesn't really come as any surprise to anybody who knows her background. The black blood that runs through her veins is susceptible to cold, causing her to become sleepy during the winter weather.

It's after patrols and before class so the Munch Box is a great place to go to kill time between the two. When she spies Bart she grins, and heads over to his table. <<Hi,>> she signs, as she sits down. <<Busy night?>>
Bart Allen Bart Allen makes a so-so motion with his hand. "It was ok, ended up coming across someone trying to smuggle some parrots in along the Texas border." He says the last bit so it does not travel to others in the room. "How about you?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd has been out in the city himself but not on official Outsiders business. But when anyone from the Vigilante scene in Gotham notifies there is going to be a sunrise breakfast after the fact? Who is he to turn down a chance for good food.

Rolling up in his Mustang, he makes his way inside toward Mary and Bart.

"Hey." He's wearing a red tee under a gray and black plaid flannel, black jeans and work boots. Moving to grab a free seat he glances to the others. "Good night?"
Mary Turner     Strix frowns at Bart and pulls out her phone from inside her puffy jacket. It's easy to tell that she's been on patrol since her hands are still gloved and the talons of them tik-tak against the screen of the phone. Finding what she wants, she watches a quick video, and then mimes a hooked finger near the nose and quickly flicks it down a couple of times, trying out the sign for 'Parrot.'

    <<Why parrots?>> she asks Bart.

When Jason sits down, she gives him a friendly wave. <<Found cocaine smugglers,>> she signs. It says something about the nature of what she does that she knew the sign for 'cocaine' and not 'parrot.' <<They're taken care of. Getting ready for class, now.>>
Bart Allen Bart Allen nods a bit and says "Exotic pet smuggling is a bit more of a thing where they can bring them across the boarder in trucks or something along that lines, where they think they can get past customs without being stopped." He looks over to Jason and says "Work and a quick trip to Texas for me."
Jason Todd Jason Todd takes a moment to follow the conversation. Parrots and cocaine. He signs bsck to Mary while talking,

<<Nice work then. Good thing we don't have cocaine fueled parrots.>> he offers with a smirk.

Looking to Bart he tilts his head, "Why would you want to go to Texas? Just for the pet thing? Or something else too?"
Mary Turner     Strix just seems confused. <<Why are parrots illegal?>>

Jason's comment gets that strange croaking noise which is what passes for Strix's laughter. <<I heard about cocaine bear! I even watched the movie!>>

She huddles down in her seat, though, when the waitress comes by to get their order. "What'll you have, hon?" the waitress asks.

Strix picks up the menu and flips to the breakfast items and points to the stack of pancakes, and then flips over to the beverages and points to the hot cocoa.

"Pancakes and hot cocoa," the waitress repeats. "What about you?" she asks the other two.
Bart Allen Bart Allen orders enough food for three people, but he has came here enough it is sorta expected. They wonder where the kid puts it as he does not gain weight. "Animals and Food stuff that comes into America, has to be checked to make sure does not have any diseases or parasites. Also there is fees, which people want to skip out on. Basically you probably make five times the money you would going the proper way, and then you also can not be as picky about what your bringing in.
Jason Todd Jason Todd pauses long enough to order.

"Double order of the French Toast, please. Extra powdered sugar. Both with scrambled eggs and sausage links. Coffee and..." He glances ".. yeah there's enough creamer. I'm good. Thanks."

After the order he looks to Mary and grins, <<Yeah. That's a crazy movie, right?>>

"Got it. Well good job then Bart. Someone's got to do it right?"
Mary Turner     Strix looks unsatisfied with Bart's answer, pouting a little bit. <<That's a boring answer,>> she complains. <<Parrots should be dangerous, man eating things if they're illegal! Like tigers.>> She mimes claws and snaps her teeth together, making a ferocious face.

<<I could go to Texas,>> she mentions offhand. <<I bet it's warm there.>>
Bart Allen Bart Allen shrugs over to Mary and says "I came across it via some guys at work talking." He explains and looks over to Jason "I try not to do patrols in Gotham don't want to upset your boss and all, you know?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd says, "Yeah, Texas is more than warm. It's hot. Near the coast it's humid and hot."

Jason smirks at Bart, "Yeah. I get it. But you're also endorsed with this Team. So pretty sure you get a pass. But then again I'm not always on his good side so.." He shrugs.

"We're all just trying to do good."
Mary Turner     <<I think I'm on his good side,>> Strix signs with a contemplative look. <<It's hard to tell.>> She shrugs dismissively, <<I'm not going to stop. It gives me something to do at night that's not homework.>>
Bart Allen Bart Allen looks over and says "Oh I think I am on the ok side. I know am ok with most of the folks there. When I need to do something in Gotham, I try to make sure no one knows it was me but our guys. One night we were in one and was a smoke screen, so I did the speed thing and then pulled out a Batman action figure and a maglight to make it look like it was him there,
Mary Turner     That strange strangled croaking sound that serves as Strix's laughter rumbles through her throat. <<I would just stick my fingers up as ears,>> she signs, making bat ears in demonstration. <<Nobody would ever know.>>
Jason Todd Jason Todd nods to Mary. "I think you are. You'd know it otherwise." Court of Owls and all that.

Jason considers the Batman toy and flashlight story and bursts into laughter. "That? That's almost perfect Bart."
Bart Allen Bart Allen chuckles a bit to this and says "I need to work on the voice, but, goons see that shadow, and they either start shooting at it or run away. And after a dozen or so of them just got hammered running seemed smarter to them."
Mary Turner     Strix shakes her head. <<Can't do the voice,>> she complains. <<Not that you need it. Just make sure they don't see you and pick them off one by one and they'll just assume it's him.>> She gives the group of vigilantes a wide grin, <<I consider it a challenge.>>
Jason Todd Jason Todd shakes his head, "That is probably a line you don't want to cross. You start trying to sound like him not just outsmart someone with a well placed shadow? It's hard to know. But he may well get upset with taking it that far."

To Mary he nods and agrees, "Yeah. It can be more fun to watch them all start to lose their shit.." He grins wolfishly.
Bart Allen Bart Allen nods a bit and says "It also helps with other guys I think, having to figure things out besides my normal tactics makes me think of odd ways when I need them against Grandpa's rogues.
Phoebe Beacon     In slips a tired looking Phoebe, her hair under a gray wrap, her eyes behind a pair of glasses, wearing a jacket and a red sweatshirt assuredly stolen from someone else's laundry pile and a pair of jeans. She gives a wave to Patricia, and seeing a group of familiar faces, she wanders her way over.

"Someone call a meeting or something? Am I not invited?" she asks, looking at the assembled, and she gives a small grin and signs <Hi Hoot-Hoot> to Mary.
Mary Turner     <<Better than just killing them all,>> Strix mentions. It's easy to forget that, despite her seeming youth and innocence, she's spent the last 75 years as an assassin for the Court of Owls, and the idea of just killing people comes easy to her. Fortunately, she never had the taste for it, and since her breakoff of the Court, her body count has dropped significantly.

<<Hoot-hoot!>> she replies with a grin when Phoebe walks in, and scoots over in the booth, patting the seat beside her, an open invitation to sit. <<I'm having pancakes!>>
Jason Todd Jason Todd looks up, offering Phoebe a smile. "Nah, just a meeting of our stomachs. We already ordered but we can get the server back over for you if you're hungry, Pheeb."

Jason knows about the assassin life. It was what he did after being brought back by Talia. "Killing is a permament solution. Just not always the right one" he admits. At least he's moved beyond that mindset finally.
Bart Allen Bart Allen nods, and says "You can have some of my pancakes till they get your food here." He offers to Phoebe. He moves to let her have a seat with them and says "I come here a lot after work." He admits.
Phoebe Beacon     "In some cases it is the right one, but those are few and far between and in general not really spoke of in mixed company." Phoebe tacks on to Jason's statement. She's had to make some tough choices in recent months, and she sits next to Mary with a small grin.

"The Curio's not too far from here if you take the back alleys. I pop in enough that I have a regular order." Phoebe gives a small smile, and waves off the offer of stealing pancakes from Bart.

"Really I'm fine. Late night on a thing out in Cape May." she pauses, and actually gives a yawn.

"Had to take a 'quick walk' back."

Meaning she wasn't on Bat-Patrol. She was doing magic bullshittery.
Mary Turner     <<He ordered a lot >> signs Strix about Bart. <<A loooooot.>> She mimes a huge pile of food in front of her. <<I'm sure he can spare you some.>>

She nods solemnly at Jason. <<Sometimes it's the right one but.... yeah.>> she signs as Phoebe completes her thoughts for her. <<I'm just glad I don't have to do it anymore.>>

That's when their waitress comes by with their beverages. When she slides the hot cocoa in front of Strix, she gets a grateful bob of the head and a signed, <<Thank you.>>

It's only then she takes off the betaloned gloves of her costume and tucks them into the pocket of her thick fluffy jacket. It's easy to see why she hides them under gloves, due to the criss-cross of scars that adorn her skin. She takes the warm mug in her hands, and closes her eyes, sighing contentedly.

The waitress smiles and turns to Phoebe. "The usual for you?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd falls silent as his order arrives. His double order of French toast, eggs and bacon seems like a lot until Bart's triple order arrives. Jason doesn't think anything of it and sets in to devour the first slice of powdered sugar dusted bread.

He looks to Mary, "That's the both of us" he agrees. Looking to Phoebe a brow raises. "Should I expect extra pineapple when I get home?" Phoebe and magic tend to mean a few things. Fresh fruit seems to be one of them.
Bart Allen Bart Allen smirks a bit and says "My beans are still on the shelf." He offers to them and has his food set around him. He looks over to Phoebe and says "I was making sure to offer you something without meat." He offers with a smile.
Phoebe Beacon     "Yes ma'am, coffee, black, and a shortstack." Phoebe gives a bright smile to the waitress, and stiffling a yawn, she signs back to Mary <<He has to.>> and then pauses, and she makes a flat expression <<I know you hear perfectly well. I kind of miss having the excuse to not talk to people.>>

"If you still get pineapple we may have to take a look on if there's an open gate somewhere in the building. Remember, if someone asks if you're a god --" she grins, referencing back to Ghost Busters.

"That was a weird time. Weird house. I just couldn't finish the job without a voice." Phoebe reflects. "But in this case -- something got caught between 'here' and 'there'. Helped it get to where it was going -- bit like picking a turtle up off the middle of the road." she states as if this was the most natural thing in the world.
Mary Turner     <<Mmm. Magic fruit.>> Strix signs, grinning. She takes a sip of her hot chocolate, wincing at it's heat. She blows on it to cool it down some before trying it again. <<Warm,>> she signs with contented pleasure.

She shrugs to Phoebe. <<Signing is better than the notepad,>> she comments with a shrug. <<Also better than using the phone. It's nice to be able to talk when you haven't for so long.>>

She purses her lips before asking, <<Where is 'there'?>>
Jason Todd Jason Todd shrugs a little. "I mean. You take one out of the 'fridge and eat it and another replaces it. Remove both? Same thing." Stabbing at a sausage link he takes a bite.

Looking at Mary he signs back, <<Sign is a great method of communication. More people should learn it.>>

Looking to Phoebe again as she talks of helping magical turtles. He considers that but doesn't push the issue. His experiences with the supernatural haven't entirely been favorable.

Absently he reaches up to rub at his left ear.
Bart Allen Bart Allen nods and concentrates a bit and adds in sign <I have to watch the speed on this more, than talking talking I have gotten used to, but if I am not careful I go to fast>. He looks over and says "Well glad everything went well, if you needed a ride you could have called."
Phoebe Beacon     "Sounds like you have a replay haunting. You should have the fruit tested to see if it's carbon-copy fruit. Also... when is the can of beans from, Bart -- is it like -- a recent can? An antique can? Why do you have a can of haunted beans?" she questions to the speedster as her coffee is delivered.

And she was putting off answering Mary's question, because it's a hard question.

"'There' is what comes next. Some people go to a place called Heaven. Others to a place called the Sunless Lands. Some others take busses or trams down to where they're going. It seems there's a different 'there' for just about every person who stops existing 'here'." she replies quietly, thoughtfully, and she gives a glance over to Jason, and then to Bart, and then back to Mary.

"I think if I had a choice, my 'there' would be where my dog Scout is." she adds.

And then she looks to Bart. "I have so many people I could call now that they might get jealous."
Mary Turner     <<So /that's/ why we always have a pineapple,>> Strix signs with a smirk. <<I was wondering why people kept buying them.>>

She, then, starts digging into her stack of pancakes, making sure to liberally douse them with maple syrup first. She closes her eyes in pleasure after the first bite and you can almost hear the yummy sounds she'd been making if she had working vocal cords. <<These are always so good.>>

<<I like riding in your rickshaw,>> she tells Bart, though her sign for 'rickshaw' is a combination of 'fast' and 'cart'. <<Maybe you can take me to Texas.>>

She listens to Phoebe attentively and nods solemnly. <<I wonder where I will go,>> she muses between bites of pancakes. <<I hope it's the place where Beast goes when he dies, too. That sounds good. But I don't know. Where do you go when you were forced to do so much bad?>>
Bart Allen Bart Allen says, "Well it depends, if you were forced to do it, I don't think it would count." He offers to Mary in hope, and to Phoebe he says "From the event where the ghost had an obsession with Jason. He got the pineapple and I got a can of beans. I just keep mine on a shelf, but not neat the kitchen."
Phoebe Beacon     "Pineapple's delicious. Ghost pineapple might be problematic. Warrants investigation." Phoebe replies.

And then she leans back against the booth, and looks across the table, but more through her friends.

"I would imagine you have time to Do Good, and that's what you're doing. You Do Good." Phoebe states firmly as she turns her dark eyes, tired as they are, to Mary.

"What you did before, what you were before, that wasn't your choice. This life now, right here with me, and Bart, and a pile of pancakes, this is your life. Your choice. You risk the same way we do when we go out. You do good things and help people, from your heart." Phoebe taps her own chest.

"You, Mary Turner, are a good person. I can sense that. Because we're not just this material on our bones. We are also luminous beings in the aether. We are parts and reflections of our actions. And I should think, should you get 'there', you'll find yourself in a place that feels like Home."
Phoebe Beacon     Phoebe also gives a side-eye to Bart. "I think I might have to investigate your beans, sir."
Mary Turner     Mary falls silent as she listens to Phoebe and when she's done, she nods. <<I think you're right. I hope I find my parents there,>> she signs before she shrugs. <<Not for a while, though.>>

Turning to Bart she asks, <<What do your beans do?>>
Bart Allen Bart Allen shrugs a bit and says "Sit on a shelf, I don't mess with them. I think we go to different places for different people. I will probably end up as part of the speed force.
Phoebe Beacon     "Not for a while." Phoebe agrees with Mary, and then looks over to Bart with a smile. "Also not for a while, please." she grins, and steals one of his pancakes.

    "They're haunted beans, maybe."
Mary Turner     <<How boring,>> Mary signs with a roll of the eyes. <<Haunted beans should at least /do/ something.>> She takes a sip of her cocoa. <<Anyway. Let me tell you about my patrol last night...>>
