Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde doesn't know if nobody throws a party like the Shi'ar. But she does know they throw great ones. Having cruised on the royal starship with Lilandra, her royal court, and the X-men all the way back when she was a young teen. In fact it was after being abducted from such a party by the Brood that Kitty had found Lockheed.

And the Shi'ar are currently not just old friends, but allies again after Lilandra has recovered her throne. Tonight is a big royal ball in honor of one of the members of the royal court celebrating an anniversary of some great significance.

Kitty walks into the ball, the attendants at the door announcing, "Katherine Pryde of Earth. Record Holder of Tetris. Close Confidant of... Peabody and Sherman." The man had to look at his display twice to make sure he got the names right. No doubt they must be important personages for them to be mentioned in the young woman's announcement.

Kitty walks into the room with all the grace of the dance training she spent years at. She's dressed in an utterly killer outfit. Lilandra let her spend a few hours with the Shi'ar clothing machine that can turn one's thoughts into an outfit. The result is inspired by something Kitty saw on original Star Trek episodes. Completely backless, and nothing explaining why the star-shaped fabric covering her bosom stays in place for it doesn't seem attached to anything else. A draping skirt then with a slit that shows a slender leg and shoes that Janet van Dyne would kill for.
Peter Quill How exactly Peter Quill found his way into a Shi'ar party is anyone's guess. Probably bribed someone. Or stole an invitation. Or maybe just HEARD about it and snuck in dressed as a member of the waitstaff. Classic. Either way, whatever the method, Quill is here, enjoying the sights -- such as they are with bird people -- before the latest announcement catches his attention. Earth? A HUMAN is here? Other than him? This, Quill needs to see. And, see he does. He pokes his head up from the table he's sitting at, where he's been picking at a meal that has something that looks like shrimp but doesn't taste like shrimp on the plate, to spot Kitty in her outfit.
The man just stares. For a few moments. A few moments more as Kitty walks by. Eyes drink in that backless gown and the skirt it's barely attached to. And the boots. He gulps down the last of his drink, and then hops up and heads in the girl's direction, keen to speak with her before some old diplomat catches her attention and drags her off for negotiations or something. "Excuse me, Katherine?" he asks as he gets within a few feet of her.
Kitty Pryde Some old diplomat is zeroing in on Kitty, his hair making a bird-like crest over the crown of his head, and a monocle in one eye. Kitty apparently recognizes him, looking at the man expectantly and starting to light up in a bright, pretty smile of breeting.

Just before he reaches Kitty though, Peter manages to step in between them. He pulls Kitty's attention, though she does flash a brief apologetic look and smile to the diplomat. He gives an understanding look and turns to mingle with someone else. Though perhaps with a slight disgruntled look towards Peter Quill's back.

"Yes, I am," Kitty tells Peter, offering him a similarly pretty smile. She seems to study his face as if trying to place it. "Forgive me if I've become forgetful, it's been awhile since I was able to attend something here on Chandilar," she offers to Peter.
Peter Quill Take that diplomacy! Peter, though perhaps unaware he has thwarted some high level government official, stands a little straighter as he's talking to Kitty. To show off his height, also so when he holds out his arm, it seems...more proper. Somehow. To him.
"I don't think we've met though, and I'm not usually here on Chandilar...but I've got some business, and I heard about this amazing party and...well...hi I'm Peter, by the way." he says by way of introduction. "I think you and I might be the only two Earth folk here tonight, so when I heard them call your name, I figured I should introduce myself."
Kitty Pryde Something about listening to the handsome man makes Kitty feel more like she's at a college party back at Oxford, being hit on, rather than at an alien royal ball. Just that smooth way he settles into kind of saying whatever seems to come into his head.

Kitty's lips quirk just a slight bit at that before a smile grows across them. "Wait, you're from Earth?" Kitty says in surprise then. "I didn't know anyone else was going to be here. I mean it's kind of... a little bit of a trip for most folks, you know?" she says, breaking out in a quiet laugh.

"Kitty Pryde," she says, offering Peter her hand. "Katherine, but most people call me Kitty," she says. "Peter," she says, repeating his name. "What ever are you doing out here?"
Peter Quill Peter Quill leads Kitty on towards the drink table, "These ones here, not so bad. That red one over there though, I'd avoid it..." he says introducing her to the exotic beverages that line the table. The question about being from Earth gets a smile, "It is a bit of a trip, yeah, but....when you've got a space ship and no REAL responsibilities...why not go where the fun parties are? Might meet a cute girl from Earth and get to chat her up for a minute or two," he says, with a wink down to Kitty.
He picks out a drink for himself, and lets her follow suit, before he asks, "What brings YOU out here though? I've got a spaceship, not a lot of Earthlings have that sort of thing at their disposal. How'd you end up hanging out with the bird folk?" As he asks this, his eyes may glance down again at that top, perhaps trying to figure out how it's staying in place. Or, maybe his attention got caught by a shiny glint from the fabric.
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde follows along with Peter Quill, pausing to regard the drinks before choosing a green one with bubbles in a narrow, tall glass. She turns back towards Peter then, the girl's attention perking up at the mention of him owning a ship.

"I'm an old friend of the Empress," Kitty says. "We've... well, had some adventures together is probably the best way to put it," she explains. "I've known her for, wow it's been probably a half a dozen years now. I missed her last time she was on Earth and when I sent along my apologies for that, she'd mentioned this. And sent one of their fleet that was passing through our sector to pick me up for it," Kitty explains.

She takes a sip of the green drink, hoping it's something manufactured and not biologically produced. But it's tasty, and a bit strong. "So, Peter, how did you come by a ship? Especially one capable of traveling this kind of distance?" she asks. As others come up behind them wanting access to the drink table, Kitty moves along, pulled in Peter's orbit as it were, and letting him guide her as she continues the conversation with him.
Peter Quill Well, if she's going to be in his ORBIT, he should have an arm around her waist to help lead her along. Just to make sure that she doesn't suddenly get pulled away by that diplomat who is still eyeing him. His hand rests on the small of her back as he starts towards a different table than where he was sitting earlier. That food on his plate either forgotten, or best avoided in his mind apparently.
"How'd...how'd I get the ship? Well...funny story...I was sort of given it after...I did some...illegal things for a clan of space pirates. At age ten." Responsibility is not really the Ravagers' strong suit, you could say. He brushes past that, "I've kept the Milano running for the last...number of years through doing odd jobs here and there across the galaxy. Sometimes saving the universe. No big deal."
Kitty Pryde The slender young Earth woman moves along with Peter, accepting the hand on the small of her back as his tale is engrossing enough to keep her attention it seems. As he finishes, Kitty takes another sip of her drink. "At the age of ten? Wow. You might be lucky they didn't eat you. Some of them out here will do that," she comments with a serious nod.

"The Milano, that's your ship?" she asks, looking up at the taller man. "And you have been out here all of that time then?" Kitty inquires. "I do love going into space, but I would probably miss home if I was away for too long. A few months and I'm more than ready to go back home," she tells him.

"So you must be pretty handy with a wrench then," Kitty says. She moves out of someone else's way, standing near to Peter as they talk. "Not to mention probably having a grasp of warp drives that few outside of Reed Richards on the planet could relate to?"
Peter Quill "I...know my way around an engine and a warp drive, yeah. But, not like a scientist does. I know the flux inverter connects to the warp stabilizer, but I couldn't like, build either of those." Peter replies, and as Kitty comes a little closer, he says, "I mean, I could show you the Milano if you'd like? It's mine for the next few days, the rest of the crew is busy, so it's just me alone for the time being."
The comment about missing home, and not being eaten gets a bit of a twitch on his cheek as he seems to be calculating just how to put what he says next, "I mean...I was sort of kidnapped? By the Ravagers...and they almost ate me but Yondu -- the leader of the clan who took me in -- kept me around. Saw some potential in me I guess. So, yeah. Got a ship and I've been flying ever since. Don't have any family on Earth to go back to, so there's not a whole lot for me to miss. Outside of the music. And the movies. And video games are really friggen sweet now.." He seems to remember his manners though, and asks, "Would you like a dance?"
Kitty Pryde Being given the chance to see a working warp drive space ship is enough to ruin any poker face Kitty might have had, the interest noticeable. Though she listens to Peter's tale about the Ravagers and his kidnapping.

"Oh no, that's horrible," she says softly, thinking of the ten year old boy being taken not just from his family, but from his very planet! She gently rests a hand on his arm consolingly.

The ball is a ball after all, and the music is really quiet extraordinary. Not that every race's music is appealing to Earthlings, but the Shi'ar certainly know how to turn a tune. As Peter invites her to the dance floor, Kitty beams a smile and nods, sipping the last of her drink and setting the glass aside, putting her hand in his to let him lead the way.

Dancing is the girl's first love, and Peter will find her light on her feet, and happy to spend countless songs dancing in his arms. Even knowing a few of the alien steps, though mostly she has to wing it.
