Lorna Dane Lorna had been doing as well as could be expected, given how truly chaotic her life had become this past year. She'd taken the time today though, to walk back to the beach, walking the length and slowly pulling up scraps of metal that washed up close enough to the shore for her to life and stack into a pile.

It was something to do that kept her busy, and wasn't strenuous either. Nor was it more paperwork.

The green haired woman wore a simple worn T-shirt, and a pair of cargo pants. Likely the same ones she'd worn before. Though at least these ones were clean. She had been out of sorts even worse than normal since Scott had left the X-men base.
Jean Grey Jean stayed behind, since... well, she was worried about Lorna, first off. And frankly, after Scott's blowup she felt that she'd do more good here. Out of her uniform and wearing a pair of jeans along with a Xavier Institute T-shirt, she flew over towards Lorna where the Queen of Genosha was working on practicing her magnetic powers.

Jean descends slowly, a discrete distance away, and wrinkles her bare feet in the sand of the beach, smiling faintly, then she looks over at Lorna, "Hey. I don't know what came over Scott there, but..." She sighs, looking a bit frustrated as she glances over the ocean, watching Lorna do her work.
Lorna Dane Lorna exhaled a breath as Jean came up to her, and a large piece of what was likely a ship's hull came floating out of the water to land on the beach under her direction. The green haired woman turned to glance at the red head and she smiled. "Honestly? Pietro is just as angry with me, and Bobby said much the things... just in a nicer way. I pissed off a lot of people Jean. And I'm still not sorry that I did it. I am sorry however that it will be used to ignite hatred against mutants though." She grimaced, and turned to face her old friend.

"I didn't follow the X-men code or any hero's code of ethics.."
Jean Grey Jean nods, "It's... complicated. I understand why you did it, and I don't blame you for it... honestly, I don't know that a heroic code of ethics is the best thing for the leader of a nation-state. Especially one that was just brutally attacked like this." She gestures, then moves to stand next to Lorna. "I mean, when there's people like those magistrates out there, and who knows what else... where can lines be drawn?" Apparently she's been thinking about this for a while, as thoughts have been bouncing around her head.
Lorna Dane Lorna's eyebrows furrowed as she looked to Jean. "I try not to kill people all over the place. I don't go out of my way to murder humans or threaten war on them. Even when a bunch of rich people showed up with mercs to pose with the rubble and the dead.. I didn't attack them. We used non-lethal force, even saving them from Hydra. I have spent countless hours begging and pleading with politicians the world over to help us. And I've suffered my own people calling me weak and naive for it." She exhaled a breath, and hung her head, her shoulders slumping.

"I have the Brotherhood and Acolytes screaming for blood, refugees in Wakanda still that want to come home, and an island that by and large I can't defend. We have //no// security. We have nothing beyond fly over patrols that we try to schedule with a dozen or so mutants that volunteer. And I'm trying to rebuild enough for people to survive." She reached up and pressed the heel of her palms against her eyes, her voice warbling.

"And I am //trying// to do my duty as an X-men. I am. But the Magistrates? They're a different level Jean. Nowhere in history do armed warships just show up on a country's shores with a list of demands does it end well for the people that live there. And I have to put my people first. Scott said there were innocent people on those ships.. but there are innocent people here too that would die if I hadn't acted when I did."
Jean Grey Jean nods, "Yeah, I know you've been trying, and I honestly don't know what else you could have done." She sighs and places a hand on Lorna's shoulder, if she's allowed. "I can't even imagine what you've been going through, but it's definitely a fine line to balance. I'd say you've been doing a better job than most could, given the circumstances."

She hmms, "I wish there was more that we could do to help, here. I know that you've been getting overtaxed." Though whether that's you in the sense of Genosha or you for Lorna herself... well, that's up for debate. Both could be easily true, after all...
Lorna Dane Lorna's expression crumbled slightly as Jean settled a hand on her shoulder. "I'm not a team leader, I didn't study tactics on the battlefield or spend hours running Danger Room scenarios for everything in the world. I trained my powers and I tried to learn how to play politics and.. that doesn't always work out. I have a degree in physics!" She waved her hand to the windswept tropical beach, which in her memories had always been painted with people and umbrellas, surfers, and children playing.. but was now empty of all of that.

"Could it have been done better? I'm sure it could have. But they had unknown antimutant tech. They were prepared to face me. I couldn't even sense what was on their warship Jean and that scared me." She whispered.

"It scared me so damned much that they'd managed to run from the fall of Genosha with all of that when my father was in power. And I kept thinking, they must want something in Carrion Cove, that's why they asked for it. That they must know something I don't. They told me, twenty minutes to decide what we'd do, or they'd blow up the supply ship and force the issue." She closed her eyes, knowing she was repeating herself now.

"I'm sorry, I'm going in circles."
Jean Grey Jean smiles gently, "It's okay. You have a lot going on in your system, and frankly... you haven't even had any break since this started." She hugs Lorna tight at that, giving her physical and mental support.

"Look, what i said before? You //are// the leader of a nation now, normal superhero ethics don't exactly apply. It'd be nice if they did, but you can't afford to risk your people this way." She pauses a bit, "Would... I do know T'Challa, Lorna. Maybe I could arrange for you to meet with him? Just to talk, nothing more than that... no trade agreements or anything like that on the line. Just to speak with him, one leader to another? Maybe he could have some advice for you?" She smiles a bit, obviously trusting the Wakandan king, as she looks curiously at Lorna.
Lorna Dane Lorna shrugged once as Jean leaned in and gave her a hug, she allowed it, and her frame leaned against the offered warmth with a soft sigh. "I tried to take a break, and I came back to the chaos on the beach." She drawled, and her voice held a hint of bitterness to it. She shook her head once and glanced back at the redhead.

"I dunno, sure.. if he has time. I've spoken to him a handful of times now.. and he's nice enough. I dunno. Our situations are so different. Wakanda isn't destroyed and in shambles." She muttered.
Jean Grey Jean nods, "Well, I don't really know anyone else that's in your situation, Lorna. I mean, I don't expect you to declare a war of expansion against your neighbors, so I'll back your plays." She smiles a bit, "What can I say, I worry about you, Lorna. I just want to make sure you're okay, best as I can." She does nod, "I'll see if T'Challa has time to spare... even if it's just meeting for coffee discretely somewhere. Might be something that can help."
Lorna Dane Lorna smiled weakly at Jean, and nodded in return. "I don't really want anything more to deal with. Handling this little island is already more than I can handle." Unlike her father she had no interest in fighting the world or changing it. All she wanted was her own little corner. A place to be safe for mutants first and foremost. A place that she knew mutant children could grow up in safety, without fear. A place where they could be normal. Even if she couldn't.

"And thank you Jean.. I appreciate it. I was a little worried when you all showed up, I'll admit. I had the idea that maybe you'd try to arrest me or something.." She muttered.
Jean Grey Jean snorts, "Yeah, maybe Scott was thinking that, and I'm sure if the Professor isn't having a few words with him about that, I'm certainly going to. But what I said back there, I meant it."

She sighs, "You should do what you can to govern humanely, with tolerance, but... there's going to be times where you have to make the hard decisions, Lorna. And we're not in a position to judge you for those, because you're not just an X-Man anymore. And we can't hold you to those standards. At least, that's what I think. I don't know how many others would agree with that."
Lorna Dane Lorna sighed and looked from the waves crashing against the beach back to Jean. "I guess I'll have to give Scott some space then.. because I doubt putting us together in the same space right now will end well." She mused, and kicked at the sand by her feet. An idle motion that clearly showed she was irritated with that.

"I don't want to be Queen with absolute power. As soon as Genosha is on its feet and capable of having an election..? I want a parliament. A prime minister. All of that again. More than just the Council." She mused.

"I dunno. It's all a mess.. Genosha's monarchy feels less like a modern one and something more like the Middle Ages."
Jean Grey Jean nods, "And I definitely think that's the best play, but look, I'm here to support you. If you want to make me a Grand Vizier, though, I demand a very appropriately gaudy hat. Because I deserve it. Maybe something with like a phoenix rising from the center..." She jokes a little, trying to keep things from getting too heavy, as she nods.

"Sounds like you have a good plan, Lorna. And I think you have the right idea. Whatever I can do to help, you let me know, okay?"
Lorna Dane Lorna laughed as she considered Jean, "Grand Vizier? Are you sure you don't want to be Lady Jean Grey? Or oh, I could make you a knight. Dame or Sir?" She teased, and her expression warmed. However the smile faded and she was left sighing again and nodding once. She shifted and made to sit down on the sandy shore.

"I dunno Jean, I wish I had something I could say, yes.. here, Jean can you do this for me?" She grimaced. "I just don't know right now. Besides being a good friend, which I can always use."
Jean Grey Jean smiles, "Then that's what I'll be for you, Lorna. Not that you had to worry about anything else in that regard." She places her hand on Lorna's, giving her hand a light squeeze with her fingers. "But yeah, if you want me to stay here in Genosha for a while, well, I got my doctorate finished, so I do have a bit of free time. Though the X-Men could always come calling..." Her lips quirk a bit, "Or, well, Logan could also come calling I suppose..."
Lorna Dane Lorna glanced at Jean, and smiled again; something she rarely got to do these days. "I appreciate it, and I won't say no to you staying here. So long as you don't mind MRE's and instant meals. And sleeping on cots. And bottled water. We're still working on the taps." She murmured, "Though seriously.. thank you. I appreciate it."

Her gaze swung back to the sea, and her eyebrows knit together in thought. "People are going to hate what I do one way or another.."
Jean Grey Jean snickers, "Considering Scott's reaction, not sure how welcome I'd be in the mansion anyway... but well, if nothing else, you need to have some friends nearby to offer you support. Though I'll talk to the Professor, maybe I can get some transit options to make it a little easier for commuting literally halfway around the world?"
Lorna Dane Lorna shrugged once, "Well, we do have Clarice when she's about for portals. And a few other mutants we know likewise can make portals or fly super fast.. so I mean.. it's not like you have to rely on the Blackbird to get here and back." She mused, a sigh pulled from her lips as she flopped back on the sand and looked up at the blue sky above.

"Sometimes I can just close my eyes and pretend that everything is the same it always was."
