Emma Frost It's an ever so dreary winter day. The Financial District is rather packed as the lunch break goes over the stock market and traders head out and head in. Emma Frost would walk along with Karen along one of the small side cafes. "I alawys did wonder as a little girl what it was like trading here when it was done by actual people." Like in the movies.
Karen Starr "A lot of shouting. There still is, even with all the digital transactions." Karen says. "One of the less pleasant things about living in this city, honestly. All the noise, at every hour." She walks on with Emma, unbothered by the cold. "You have it better upstate."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would nod at Karen, "Oh? And here I thought there was no respect for traditions. Everything's automatic. More efficient, I suppose. And I'm surprised that you're able to maintain any level of focus with everything going on." She had it easy as a telepath compared to someone that could hear every single voice on the planet should they try.
Karen Starr     "I can focus or block out to a large extent, but even then, sometimes something particularly annoying comes through. You have to block it out. You'd go crazy if you didn't. Thankfully, I had a lot of practice. I'm sure things have to be similar, for you." She taps her temple by way of clarification.
Emma Frost Emma Frost would nod, "Yes. It's the hardest part for telepaths when powers manifest. You learn to tune it out and make shields very quickly. If you do not, then you break and there is nothing left."
Karen Starr     "It was pretty crazy, when I got to Earth. I mean, everyone knows all these powers that Kryptonians have, but it was going from being a normal girl and getting in a rocket ship and then stepping out of it with...well, all this."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would nod thoughtfully, "I can't imagine what it would be like." Emma can only imagine that it would be endlessly full of anguish. Her hand would go to squeeze Karen's shoulder.
Karen Starr "It was rough. If it hadn't been for Kal and Lois I don't know what I would have done." She admits, and then shakes her head. 'I'll get maudlin if we keep that up. Topic change!"
Emma Frost Emma Frost would smirk, "So I see. Vaudeville it is?" She would inwuire while the two would walk along. "Do you have a particular favorite then?"
Karen Starr "Particular favorite? No one even does Vaudeville anymore, do they? Wasn't that early twentieth century? I mean, maybe there's some retro performers, but no one I know of." Karen asks, curiously.
Emma Frost Emma Frost would smile, "Oh, one just has to know where to go. There are still a few places where they keep the old ways going. If only for nostalgia. For memories. One just has to know where to look for them, and a willingness to engage in something so pedestrian."
Karen Starr "Can't say I was even aware. Don't really have the nostalgia factor. Krypton wasn't really big on the whole "entertainment" thing." Karen shrugs. "I didn't really run into that till I got to Earth."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would nod, "Of course. I suppose it's most often something generational. So, Ms. Starr, what would you say most fascinates you when you look for something to pursue for your own interest?"
Karen Starr "Hmm...I honestly don't leave myself a lot of time for it. Between running StarrWare and being Power Girl, there's not a lot of hours in the day, and you get most of those." Karen laughs. "So I guess it's you, as far as an answer to that question.'
Emma Frost Emma Frost would smile, "I'm touched. And while I can appreciate being your sole recreational pursuit.. You make even me seem socially extroverted, darling. Far be it for me to be the commentator.." Teasing gently.
Karen Starr "You are. You go to the Hellfire Club, you go to various high-end socialite things. I don't do any of that. I should. I'm bad at work/life balance. I always have been. It kind of comes with the powers."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would nod, "Well, do you feel a necessity for it? If you're content the way you are, then there is no need to change it. But you have two spheres of your life. Both of them are oriented around service."
Karen Starr Karen looks bemused, and looks down. "Two spheres of my life, huh? Are you trying to be clever, Emmakins?" She asks the other blonde there. "I probably should try for better balance. It's just not something I'm good at. Social stuff isn't my forte."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would smile, "Why dear, far be it for me.. But, your life falls upon one fulcrum and little else. Some variety is good for you, emotionally. And I know I'm far from the most entertaining individual."
