Emma Frost It's sometime early in the evening at Xavier's School for the Gifted. Emma Frost is currently sitting over in one of the chars to the side of the library, where she has a glass out of rather expensive wine, a book to the side from the library's collection.. And a rather expensive looking smartphone in front of her from which she would be lookin over scans while also going down the middle of the book. The book looks like an academic book from the late 1800's, focused on genetics.
Warren Worthington Warren Worthington isn't always around the mansion that much, having most of his interests in Manhattan these days and not always front and center with the X-men. He's not inclined to be a schoolteacher and his skills are most useful in specific situations. Sometimes they go into space. Warren has no interest in going into space. He needs air if he wants to fly.

"Emma," he says casually as he makes his way in to get a glass of wine from himself, having done his requisite visiting with the Professor. He peers for a moment at the title, "And here I'd have pegged you for a bodice ripper fan."
Doug Ramsey Doug comes in - he manages to keep his steps quiet, but his mind - with that odd, encrypted wall of language in it - not unpleasant, almost like Tolkien's Elvish, but utterly incomprehensible - is ever-present. He notices the others in the library, and holds a finger up to his mouth, before he trails his finger along the spines of a row of books, looking for the one he's after, counting silently as he goes.
Emma Frost Emma Frost would turn her attention to Warren, "Mister Worthington. How fares one of my primary competitors?" While Frost Enterprises might in name be a competitor of Worthington Industries, Warren was one of those few that could be said to have vastly more wealth than Emma did. "And greetings, Douglas. You seem to be after something in particular."
Warren Worthington Warren Worthington flicks his eyes over at Doug, "Doug, come socialize with Emma. Part of your work for me will involve the occasional bit of schmoozing. And Emma Frost is, aside from myself and maybe Tony Stark, the schmooziest schmoozer in the land."

He pours himself a generous glass of wine and takes a long drink, "Oh yes, we are in competition in a few areas. Well, then allow me to introduce you to my new Chief Systems Analyst."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would glance at Warren, "Oh, I wasn't aware that you'd taken on a new intern, Mister Worthington." Then as Warren goes to elaborate on Douglas' role she would go to raise her glass up and over. "Ah, congratulations. I'm sure that you'll prove excellent in the role."
Doug Ramsey Doug raises his eyebrows. "I mean, technically I'm being paid to be here." He says, "I'm looking up an obscure bit of history I know the professor had a book about - but something tells me that right now it's in Hank's collection of books he took out of the library and never brought back. I'll ask him." He shrugs, and then says, "Not intern, in fact - I'm being paid." He gives a casual smile, and says, "Since I don't spy on what other people are reading - y'know, as a sort of courtesy - what brings you here tonight? Other than the Professor's top-shelf collection of bottles of Malbec."
Warren Worthington Warren Worthington raises an eyebrow, "You're billing these hours? You can pour my drinks from now on then," he smiles, handing the empty one over to Doug. "I think I'll switch to the Scotch. Hank hides the good bottle on the third shelf, behind the cheap vodka no one here would ever buy except as a disguise."

"Yes, Doug's an executive, in fact, answering directly to me. He's going to be my troubleshooter and help me refine my corporate structure for the future."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would ahh, "A rather rapid promotion. Congratulations, Douglas." She would raise her glass up even more. "I believe this calls for a toast." SHe would go to pour another glass of the expensive alcohol for herself. "And I'm doing some reading on what everyone's favorite biologist has written over time. Seeing how his particular experiments and theories have changed as far as we're aware." By 'favorite' and with a book that old she could only mean one person..
Which was also what the very strong drink was for.
Doug Ramsey "Well, you know. Gotta eat." Doug says, before he raises an eyebrow and says "I AM working - not that I wasn't planning on getting dinner at Harry's and billing the hamburger as a corporate expense." He does walk over and slide the bottle of Tito's back, before he pulls out the crystal bottle of scotch and casually pours two fingers of it for Warren. He's not drinking tonight. He furrows his brow and says, "I see."
Warren Worthington Warren Worthington furrows his own brow at the favorite in question. "Should I be concerned?" he asks, raising an eyebrow. "I know I'm not as active as I once was, but if something is going on, I do want to know about it," he says.

"I am simply finding other venues through which to exert my influence. I'm sure you're familiar with it, you do the same. The more we integrate mutantkind into the fabric of society, which includes business and at all levels, the less people will be inclined to try to uproot us. Any mutant has the right to keep their identity secret, but those of us who are public need to show up so that our voices can be heard," he says.

"Damn, that really is good wine. Drinking this stuff must be what makes Charles so eloquent," he says, moving and taking a seat. "I might join you for that burger. Haven't had one of Harry's in a long while."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would shake her head, "For all that man has tortured us, we have precious little useful information about him. The least I can do is try to figure out the way he thinks.." They already know in a twisted way what he's after. Emma goes to take another pull of it.

"If you still have to financially justify going there as an expense, Douglas, you'r enot being paid nearly as much as your position is worth." She would personally expect it to be at least in the seven figure range.
Doug Ramsey Doug inhales, sharply. "The answer is simple - the skid is that we want to think he's amoral; he's not, not really. He knows the wrongs he's committing. He's not a sadist, either; the pain's not the point, science is the point. What he wants is to reach the end of Evolution - to take the train as far as it goes and see what's waiting at the final stop. Godhood? Or something else. It's an all-consuming obsession. That, and I think he's in love with Scott, which... I mean, Scott's the quiet guy who enjoys jigsaw puzzles. He probably reminds Sinister of some guy he used to play cricket with... or something." He gestures. "As for that - Warren IS paying me a lot, but I save my expenditures for nice shoes and Warhammer 40,000 figurines."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would shake her head at Douglas. "Quite. The man is a monster. And his endgame is.. All too logical in a warped way. But what beyond that." She would make a face and take another shot. How much of that bottle had she taken already? Probably with justification. "His writings are quite extensive."
Warren Worthington Warren Worthington shakes his head, "I'm not sure he knows what love is. Obsession, certainly. Maddening, all consuming obsession. But that isn't love. I have the restraining orders to prove it," he smiles thinly.

"The restraining orders are for them, not me. I've had a few stalkers. I'm sure Emma's had her share. I hope you dealt with them legally but I won't pry."
Doug Ramsey Doug looks back and forth between the two, and then he shrugs. "Maybe he... doesn't know? Every scientist is motivated in part by the thrill of discovery. He wants to know, will do whatever it takes *to* know. That's the really frightening thing about Sinister; he's just making it up as he goes along and discovers new things, maybe. Maybe who he is now thinks entirely differently from the man who wrote that book."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would smile at Warren, "Oh, how naive of you to think so. It's rather cute. Or are you just being polite? Denial is the best policy, after all." Emma does push the bottle over to the side, apparently having had enough for the moment. But she does regard Warren dispassionately, even as she smiles just a little too sadistically.

Nodding over at Douglas, "Alsoq uite possible. We likely will never know. And as best we can do is limit the damage he causes."
Warren Worthington Warren Worthington smiles, "On the record, I always assume the best of others. I only speak the worst in private, as all polite people should."

"Whatever his reasons, he's mad enough that he doesn't have any limits in pursuit of them. Stripped of all humanity. Although the way humanity behaves these days, what does that even mean now?"

"Fucking Scotch. Now I'm morbid."
Doug Ramsey Doug sits on the edge of a table, and crosses his feet at his ankles. "I don't think humanity's any worse than it's ever been. Or any better, really. We exist in a continuum. When Sinister was taking his first steps in genetics he was reading textbooks where racist screeds against the Irish were being published as cutting-edge genetic theories. I guess I don't have the answer. You'd think an egomaniac like that would've written it down, but I don't think he's all that interested in sharing, either. He wants to Win evolution, and he's up against guys like the High Evolutionary. Huh. ...You know, I wonder if there's a club."
Emma Frost Emma Frost would shrug, "Humanity hasn't changed throughout the eons. The same impulses are there. Times have changed, technology has changed. Population has changed. Culture has changed.. But on some levels people don't change. One leanrs there are limits to the system. And let us hope, Douglas.. That we never come to the point where we understnad the man. That we know exactly what the monster means."
