Elliot Hayes The brilliant blue-white sparks of electrical current briefly light up the night, only to be subsumed into the general glow of the city. Bushwick is always caught in the glow of the rest of the Big Apple; no one looks twice at a new source of light. Elliot is a couple stories above the streets, shivering briefly as a breeze washes over her. She contemplates her target intently for now. The subject of that wide-eyed, thoughtful stare is a powerline.

Occasionally, the girl will move toward the electrical wire and sparks will cast off of it as the current leaps up to try to meet her fingers. She clutches the star of David hung from her neck reflexively when this happens and takes a quarter step back.

"Okay. You can do this. Immune to electricity. Right? It's just a power line... twelve meters above a city street..." The girl glances downward. It doesn't help her composure.
Maxwell Wave This evening Maxwell Wave is working on his vigilante persona known as Amplitude. His costume is the product of thrift-shopping and on-line purchases consisting of a motorcycle helmet and suit, a utility backpack, a paintball bandolier filled with tubes of ball bearings, and a scarf for just a little bit of flair.

At present, he's practicing roof-top walking and jumping. While he is capable of flying, his working practice involves concealing the true nature of his powers. He's doing a poor job of this at the moment. His first attempt involves reducing the effect of gravity, but this gives him a slow 'moon-walking' view as he soars over a building. He murmurs to himself, "This doesn't seem natural.. and it's very sloooow."

He's at an apex when he notices the flash of light. Curious, he reverses his trajectory and makes his way toward the source.
Elliot Hayes As Amplitude is coming into view a teen girl is stepping out onto a power line. Tennis shoes must be the only thing preventing this person- a tiny blonde in a white short-sleeved blouse and blue jeans- from being electrocuted dramatically and thrown to the ground. She trembles slightly as she extends her arms like wings to keep her balance as she steps out onto the line. Another spurt of sparks, cast dramatically into the air like a signal flare to draw Amplitude's attention. And then... Nothing. The girl actually looks disappointed as she draws back her foot.

Elliot shakes her head, turning away just as the vigilante is approaching her. She sighs heavily. "I guess it was a stupid idea. Maybe I negate the electrical field somehow? If I----" Then she slowly looks downward once more.

"Of *course*." Elliot starts to tear off her brand new tennis shoes with their rubber soles. She's in a frenzy, ready in mere seconds to try her powerline experiment- this time in pink ankle socks.
Maxwell Wave Amplitude's expression is unreadable from behind his mirrored visor, but the visor does seem to radiate some kind of glow from within. This glow intensifies at the sight of the teen girl. In his inexperience, he's a little too eager to launch after his next bound. His sneakers impact the roof and finds himself soaring well above Elliot. In a panic, he begins adjusting forces to compensate, which results in a strange zig-zag of trajectories that leave Amplitude a little dizzy.

With Elloit's focus, this may go unnoticed in the sky above. Maxwell finally manages to write himself, gloves clutching his helmet as he starts to levitate down towards Elliot's position.
Elliot Hayes Elliot *is* pretty determined. She's focused entirely on the task at hand, especially as she gingerly extends her toes toward the power line. There's a hint of tepidation there. Something about removing her shoes feels far more vulnerable than when she was wearing those nice white sneakers. So she hesitates for a second before putting her foot down and looks- up.

"...Bwah?" That instinctive response is all that Elliot can articulate of her first impressions of the soaring thrift store vigilante above her. ".... Um. Hi?" Her right hand releases the star of David to drop beneath the collar of her blouse once more and she instead reaches for her smartphone. Typical teenage behavior.
Maxwell Wave Amplitude rights himself in the air and lands in a squat on the top of a power line pole. He gives off the impression of superior balance, but in truth, he's cheating by continuing to suppress the effects of gravity upon his person and also making minor torque corrections as his own balance proves inadequate to keep himself righted correctly on the pole.

He blinks and realizes this might be is first photo-op as Amplitude. He tries to remain stoic in appearance and his voice comes both muffled and deeper then it needs to be. "You.. know what you are doing, miss?"
Elliot Hayes "What?...Oh. Sure. I'm taking a photo," Elliot replies sheepishly. She squints birelfy and then gestures vaguely with the hand containing her phone before finally moving it into place once more. "So... You're a superhero or something, right? Were you listening to old Macklemore songs for costume inspiration? ...Nevermind. What's your name?"

The girl inches toward the edge of the roof. She's about to back up onto the power line just to line up a better shot with her smartphone. Notably, she hasn't actually taken a photo yet.
Maxwell Wave The helmet tilts to the side as he offers an "Oookay." Her answer didn't quite clarify what was happening there, was she trying to electrocute herself or what she a mutant doing some trick?

Her series of follow-up questions put him off guard." Uh.. Super hero? Ah, I wouldn't say so, not yet.. Macklemore?"

He gazes down and then shrugs at her, "I mean.. if Grand Dad's clothes work, they work right?"

He freezes as he asks her his name "Well, Uh.. I'm trying to keep that a.. OOH!.. My hero name!"

He raises stands straight and places a hand on his hip. He raises his other hand into the air, pointing. "Amplitude!" He fails to notice her backing up onto the power line because he's already getting caught up in his potential celebrity-ness.
Elliot Hayes "Amplitude? That's pretty cool. Measuring vibrations?" At this point, Elliot is right on the edge of the roof, heels hanging off of it as she wobbles slightly. She finally snaps a photo and then stumbles backward slightly. The girl hops, displaying some athletic prowess, and ends up landing on one foot on the powerline in the same manner as an acrobat on a tight rope. This results in another shower of sparks as the circuit is formed between her body and the power line.

Nothing happens to Elliot, of course.

"Did I, um. Do something that dragged you up here?" The young woman squeaks briefly, glancing sidelong at the ground. "Or were you just practicing your flight?"
Maxwell Wave "Ah, something like that." When he notices the woman begin to wobble, he  gestures toward her, obviously startled. "Whoa, watch out you are about to."

And then came the acrobatic feat, his hand is left pointing in the air. "Well, you are not.. frying. So that's a good thing, and.. Wow, that's really good balance."

He leaps to more stable ground and settles on the edge of the roof, deciding to sit. He slumps a little bit, "It looked like flight, huh? I was going for something more... natural-looking. Like.. if I can super strength or something."

He flexes his decently muscular, but no-where near Hulkish arm, through the biker suit. "I guess you are immune to electrocution? Do you have a name?"
Elliot Hayes "I don't know, you were wobbling through the sky over my head. Falling with style, maybe?" Elliot offers something of a crooked smile at that, gesturing with the phone in her left hand while still perched on that powerline. "To infinity and be- ack!"

Elliot stumbles, then quickly hops a couple of steps to lend on the edge of the roof once more. "Immune to electricity? Yes. And I have a- name. Sure. My name is---"

The blonde trails off. Then she starts up again with, "I don't have a hero name or something. I was just trying an experiment. Something isn't *quite* right though..."
Maxwell Wave He slumps a little at the description of stylistic falling then just accepts it, hands resting on his knees as his booted feet dangle off the rough. "Ah, yea, I get it if you don't want to share your real name."
He turns to the side to gaze up toward her. "Oh, an experiment?" She just said the magic word for Max. "What.. kind of experiment? Trying to deduce how much current you can handle? Are you.. super invulnerable or something?"

It's an odd line of questioning, if you aren't a mutant or metahuman. It's almost coffee chat for two people who are obviously 'special' in some regard. "Maybe I can help!"
Elliot Hayes "I know I can handle more current than I'll get out of this power line. No, it's um-" Elliot glances left and right for a second before beginning to gesture animatedly with her phone. "I wanted to try riding the third rail on the subway and this seemed like a good place for a dry run. So, um. Opposites attract and like charges repel, right? So if I can match the charge of the power line I should be able to ride it like a skateboard. Probably."

The offer of help draws an arched brow but Elliot simply shrugs. "I wouldn't mind some help if you can follow along, I guess. It's pretty technical, though... I mean. Sure. You can help. No problem."
Maxwell Wave He points, declaring behind his visor. "Coulomb's force!"

He hops up to his feet and looks her up and down before gazing toward the power line. "You are going to need to either exercise that perfect balance of yours and.. or.. maintain two points of contact. Otherwise, you are going to generate angular momentum, as the vector of the generated force won't be passing through your center of gravity."

He hums deeply and rubs the chin of his helmet. "You weight approximately, 48.5 kilograms. You will need to generate around 475 newtons upwards to counter-act gravity and then control your forward momentum with the excess... That would be pretty neat to see."
Elliot Hayes "I can work with that. It's all down to how I place my feet, right? All of the actual momentum will be provided by the power line... 475.3 newtons to move one meter in a second. My surge protector is rated for two thousand joules. " Elliot shrugs. "So... That part isn't the issue. I just need to generate an identical charge and it will throw me--- I just need to go in, um, the right direction. Okay!"

Elliot bounces up and down a couple of times, turns, and orients herself toward the power line. She's tucking the phone away as she goes. "Going to catch me if I fall?" She throws Amplitude a wink, and then- she's off.
Maxwell Wave His body language exhibits his excitement as he realizes that everything he just said landed perfectly well with the woman. Deciding to cast off the illusion, he sprints toward the edge of the building and casts off, once more cancelling the effects of gravity on his person and also modifying the effect of friction of his body. Its through subtle manipulation of the later that he controls his flight. He manages to however about two meters off her right shoulder as he follows along with her. "Of course, I will! But seems like you already have the hang of it!"
Elliot Hayes "Unless I get the charge slightly off and shoot into the sky," Elliot replies. But she's laughing as she steps out onto the power line. This time there aren't any sparks. The girl takes a deep breath and wiggles slightly. She shifts into a stance similar to that of a runner. Then there's that burst of sparks, this time more akin to grinding metal as sparks go in *both* directions, along with some smoke. And- she's off. She shoots right down the power line and then jettisons off the far end onto the next roof, flying several feet into the air before crashing into the ground with a *thump*.
Maxwell Wave Maxwell follows along and keenly observes. Elliot will not realize it, but the visored man is carefully gauging her exerted forces. He doesn't interfere with her trajectory and her land on the opposing rough because it seems well within tolerances, assuming she lands correctly. He reaches out a hand and catches the edge of the building to slow himself down and completing a not super graceful cartwheel before restoring gravity to stand beside her.

He raises his visor enough to expose his mouth so he can share a grin with her, giving her a thumbs up. A faint glow of cyan casts over his features, radiating from further up inside the helmet. "Nice job."
