Patty Sloan Its a sunday afternoon and the car is acting up. Then again the car is ALWAYS acting up. This thing wouldn't make it to the next town over let alone to New York City for College. What is she going to do? The young blonde girl pulls over to the side of the road. She is just outside of town and her car sputters as its shut off. "UGH!" The girl pops the hood and gets out of the car with some fluid for the greedy vehicle. She walks to the front and opens a resevoir to fill it with fluid. The car guzzles it down like its never had that fluid before.

The young woman finishes up and closes the hood. She then kicks the driver's side tire before getting in. "I need to do something about this. Maybe my Moms can help me with a new vehicle." A sigh escapes her lips as she reaches towards her chest. Underneath her top she can feel one of the belts holding her wings down. Surely those wings are functional? She shakes her head. Her moms would never forgive her for trying to fly. Her wings are effectively clipped.

"Okay Next stop, to WalCo." She goes to start the car and the starter just whines as its cranked. "Oh don't start this again!" She tries again, "No no! Start. START!" She tries one more time and car sputters to life. "Good job Patty. You've got this."
Peter Quill It would seem starships and cars are -- despite the technological differences between the two -- quite alike! Peter has also ended up stranded in the middle of Pennsylvania (see if he ever offers a lady a ride back to New Jersey again). He is scuffing along down the road, occasionally sticking out a thumb to try and hitch a ride with someone. There are, unsurprisingly, no takers. It's not the freewheeling, carefree '80s anymore.

As he walks along, in the distance he sees a fellow stranded traveler in the form of Patty. The man sticks his hands in his pockets and just keeps walking in her direction, as it's the way he's going. Once he's within a few dozen feet of the broken down car, he calls out helpfully, "Car trouble?" As if there's any other reason to stop on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania.
Patty Sloan The girl sees the man approaching. Part of her is a little nervous, but he seems like he is in about as rough a position as she is in. She opens her window and responds. "Yeah." She comments softly. Her shy disposition shines through. "Do you need a ride?" She asks curiously. Normally she wouldn't offer anyone a ride in her car But this guy seems alright. Besides its not like she can't defend herself if needed."I was headed to WalCo to try to get some parts for my car. They have an automotive shop in there." She states trying to show some level of courage.

She steps out of the vehicle and smiles. "Umm nice to meet you. I'm Patty." She doesn't give her last name. She gets enough grief from co-workers about her having a first name as a last name. They always joke that she must be some kind of comic book hero to have two first names like that. "Where is your car? Did you break down up the road?" She asks curiously as she looks for a broken down vehicle. She of course isn't looking for a vehicle that is meant for intersteller travel. She's more looking for one with four wheels.
Peter Quill "Pleasure to meet you Patty, and..sure, I'll take a ride if you think your car can get us there." Peter says, looking over the vehicle a little dubiously. "I bet WalCo will have the thing I need...or close enough to it that I can get Rocket to jam it in the engine and we can get going." He says as he walks around the car, and then pops open the door to the back seat.

"Yeah, my ride's up off the highway back on a dirt road a couple miles back. Seems the ignition went on it." A strange thing for a car to have go out when one is driving it, but maybe he lives up the road? He slides into the backseat, and pulls the door closed, "Can't say I've got any money to pay you for gas though." Or, pay for a part he needs. "Least, nothing anyone takes around here."
Patty Sloan "She will get us there." Patty states as she looks at her car. "She may not like it but she will get us there." She gets in the driver seat and starts the car again. It does start up this time thankfully. Looks like she got her throat cleared or whatever bug was playing up. The car starts rolling down the highway."

Patty looks in the rear view mirror to Peter and smiles to him. "Don't worry about it. I can help with that." She states, having a couple bucks squirreled away for a rainy day and this was certainly looking like it was a rainy one. She adjusts her seatbelt. As she does she lets out a soft 'eep' as one of her belts gets caught in the seat belt strap and it pulls on her wing sharply. "Sorry! I just got caught in the seatbelt." She clearly didn't. "I don't know much about cars. Starting to think I should go to college to study to be a mechanic or something with as much trouble as this car gives me. I need to replace it."
Peter Quill "A college girl? Can't say I went myself...not that I think I'd particularly want to. College doesn't seem to teach anyone anything of use if you ask me," Peter replies, "Sorry, that's mean. But...it's...I dunno many college graduates myself I guess." Seems like he's a down on his luck Appalachian type. The eep gets a look from the man, but he doesn't comment about getting caught in the seatbelt, rather he chuckles, "Dunno that a college teaches you how to fix anything. Maybe like...a community college? I guess?" Not super familiar with the American educational system, this guy.

"You from around here?" he asks, conversationally, "Or just on your way through to school?"
Patty Sloan "I'm not a college girl yet. I just graduated high school this past year. Been trying to save up money so I can go to college. No idea what I want to study there." She comments showing a lot of indecision in that comment. "I don't know either. I don't think I would like being under cars and trucks all day. I guess there is just more on my mind of late." She comments as she continues driving.

"Oh yeah. I grew up in Jersey Shore, PA. Just never left. I guess I haven't found a place to go really or a reason why. Part of me wants school to be my way out of smalltown USA if you know what I mean." She frowns shyly. "You don't seem like you're from around here. Then again, if you were I may have run into you before."
Peter Quill "I grew up in Missouri, so not really from around here, no." Peter replies, before he continues, "And after that I can't say I was ever anywhere for longer than a few months. Been pretty much everywhere." He shrugs and then watches some of the scenery go by.

"Don't need college if you can find your own way. Don't need to make too much money if you don't have too many big expenses. Course, your car seems to have different ideas about what you should be spending that money on," is added with a wry smile.
Patty Sloan "Oh! Missouri? Sounds nice." She smiles a little. "Thats kinda cool though. You got to see the world a little bit. How did you wind up in this town." She clearly doesn't think highly of her home and it shows. "I just want to see more of the world. Its not like I can just spread my wings and fly away." She blushes at that and hopes it passes as waxing poetic.

Patty sighs, "But isn't that what you're supposed to do when you graduate high school? Go to college? That has always been what my moms said." She in the distance the Walco comes into view. "We are almost there." She sighs. "Yeah the car is a real pain in the neck. I've had it since I started driving. Its been showing its age of late and I really need to either replace it or find another form of transportation." She sighs, "My job doesn't pay much but I really don't wanna leave them."
Peter Quill "It's been...something. And ended up here because my ride broke down after I brought a...uh..friend back to her place over in Jersey. Just the first place I could find to land," Peter says, before he coughs and then says, "I mean, park. I'm a pilot. I fly so...landing is a thing I do regularly." Yup, just a normal pilot hitchhiking in rural PA.
Patty Sloan Patty pulls into the Wallco parking lot. She gets out of the car and is just about to start walking her way into the store. Thats when a voice rings out. "Well if it isn't Little Patty four eyes! What are you doing out here? I thought you stuck to that little slime hole you call a thrift shop." The voice comes from a dark haired girl who happens to be walking past the car. "You should really get a nicer car... Oh but your can't. I bet you are still living with your mommies." She smirks and a man walks up to her. "Look who it is Jimmy, Its Little Patty Four Eyes." The young woman laughs as the man snickers.

"Emily why don't you grow up. We're not in school anymore!" The blonde responds softly. Her heart races and wind starts blowing through the area. Its not enough to be abnormal but it is definitely not a windy day. "Just leave me alone will you. I'm helping someone out"

"What did you say to me?! You don't get to talk back to me. I am always going to be above you and that pathetic house you come from. I was captain of the cheerleading squad and I am still dating the Quarterback! You are just a little bug for me to step on." She rolls her eyes. "Lets go Jimmy." She starts walking by Patty and pushes her down to the ground.

The wind really whips up when Patty hits the ground. She sighs and calms down. "I want out of this town." She comments as she stands up and brushes her clothing off. Thankfully its been dry lately so she isn't too dirty from it. "Sorry you had to see that. That girl has been bullying me since I got glasses when I was like 13."
Peter Quill As the confrontation ensues, Peter slides out of the car and then sizes up Jimmy, just in case he has to bash in the skull of some small town jock. Y'know. In self defense. He crosses his arms as the pair walk off, and then he smirks at the comment, "Aint hard really, you can just leave you know. People might ask weird questions if one day you're here and next you're gone off to who knows where. And it'd probably worry your parents. But...nothing really keeps you tied here."

"Especially airheads like that. God I forgot how big of a hole Earth can be sometimes." He shrugs, he's at his destination so apparently he's no longer too worried about keeping up appearances, "Thanks for the ride. Like I said, I don't got any cash that they use around here but if you need something lifted...I haven't been caught doing it in years....well..months. But that doesn't count."
Patty Sloan "Here you go." Patty opens her purse and pulls out some money. She hands it to Peter. "If you need more let me know. I just need to pick up more Steering fluid and some stuff for dinner tonight. This place has just about everything. Its the go to store for the area really." She walks in to the store and gets a shopping cart.

A moment later, there is Emily again. "Did I give you permission to come into this store!? GET OUT!" She snaps at Patty. "Go crawl back under a rock or whatever you came from."

Patty stands there and glares. "I... I can shop where I want to." She softly speaks.

"What you think because we are out of school you can do whatever you want without consequences? How about you give me the money you were going to spend here and I will let you walk out of here with that ugly shirt in one piece."

Patty looks down. She is just about to go for her purse but she stops. "No. No more." Now there is no denying something is off. There is wind blowing INSIDE the store.
Peter Quill Peter Quill does not take the money, "No, no, don't worry about it. They won't even hardly notice whatever it is I gotta grab. Which reminds me..." he says as a he tugs out a device that LOOKS like a cellphone, but...isn't? He taps on it a few times, and then sighs before he stuffs it back into a pocket of his coat, "Knew I shouldn't have listened to Drax about that 'universal connection' update. Nobody does Earthsats right."

Peter is looking around as if trying to find something specific OUTSIDE the store when he spots the new confrontation between Patty and Emily. He starts to walk in their direction, and calls, "Hey, why don't you mind your own damn business, lady? She can go where she wants, it's a free country. Last I heard."
Patty Sloan "Stop... Just stop. Please STOP." Patty raises her voice what is really unlike her but is she telling Emily to stop or is it something more. She is fighting but it doesn't look like she is fighting the bully.

As Peter steps in, Emily rolls her eyes, "Oh Four Eyes got a new boyfriend to fight her battles. She can't even protect hers..." Thats about the end of what she gets out before the sound of rushing wind slams into her. It sends her flying backward and right into a display of old DVDs. "What the!!!" The cruel look on the bully's face changes to fear. "You... You Really are a freak!" She scrambles to her feet and backs away from the blonde girl. "I... I'm going to tell everyone about you! You are a monster! A mutie freak!" Emily gets out of Dodge. She is definitely scared.

Patty winces and begins tearing up. She didn't want this to happen. She didn't want anyone to know. Why did the bully have to be so cruel?! "I... I need to go. I'm Sorry Mister. I didn't wanna bring trouble your way." She frowns and starts walking her way to the ladies room.
Peter Quill Getting called 'Four Eyes' Boyfriend' gets a laugh out of Peter. Though, that stops when the girl gets thrown into a rack of DVDs. Peter can recognize that. He's seen it before out in the wilds of the universe. Telekinesis. That has suddenly made his companion all the more interesting to him. When she apologizes and starts to head for the ladies room, he takes a quick step and says, "Woah woah woah, hold on. That's on the way out...it's this way...and I'd go quick before the cops arrive. I probably got some warrants out that I don't care to take care of. Come on, back to the car..."
Patty Sloan Patty nods slowly. There is fear in her own eyes now. Quickly she starts toward the exit. A security guard tries to stop her. "You ain't going anywhere girl. You just caused a big mess. The cops will be here shortly but for now I gotta detain you."

The girl frowns and shakes her head. "No you don't I didn't mean to cause any trouble. I was being bullied! Where were you then!" More wind whips around her knocking a few things off of displays. "Just let me go!" She takes off running out the door. Quickly she gets to her car and starts it. Thankfully it fires up again.
Peter Quill Now's as good a time as ever to use all those cool tricks he learned with the Ravagers. This one is known as 'push the rent-a-cop and run'. It's exactly what it sounds like. As the security guard starts to try and engage with Patty, Peter steps between them and says, "Hey, now, come on, you don't gotta do that at all. It's just a few DVDs. Nobody even buys those now anyways what with streaming, just..." and then comes the shove right to the middle of the guard's chest as Patty breaks for the car. He's in hot pursuit, and hops into the vehicle, before he says, "Head down Farmhill road, quarter mile, take a left, there'll be a big open field. I got it from there."
Patty Sloan Patty doesn't argue. She gets the beater of a car rolling out of the parking lot. She starts back the way she came just as the police comes driving on by and into the Walco parking lot. "I can't believe I did that. I warned her. I did! I didn't want to do that!"

Her phone rings. She quickly answers it. Its one of her moms. "Mom I can't talk now. My secrets out." She winces expecting the worst.

The voice over the phone is clear as day. "Don't come back here Its not safe for us or you anymore. Just go."
Peter Quill "Yeah, well, bullies are stupid jerks, that's kind of what makes them bullies in my experience..." Peter says, looking over his shoulder for the cops. Someone surely got the license plate of the car that he's in. He then says, "Just drive quick, don't worry bout the speed limit, that's not gonna be an issue for you soon. He then starts to climb into the back of the car, "How attached are you to this hunk of junk?" he asks.
Patty Sloan Patty is flying by the seat of her pants at this point. Her head is spinning and she doesn't realize that she is driving a bit faster than she normally would. "Ummm I dunno what you mean by that. What was your name again?" She asks not remembering if she got his name or not. "Wait Speedlimit isn't going to be an issue soon? Oh goodness." She keeps driving going fast but not insanely so.

Quickly she rounds a corner onto farmhill road. It takes her a matter of a few minutes to get to the big open field. "Okay now what?" She pulls into the field and shuts the car down. It lets out a backfire and dies. "Well that happened. UGH! I can't believe I did that though! I was told never use my powers! Never let anyone see me use them and I lost it in the middle of a busy store?! UGH!"
Peter Quill Peter Quill tugs two things out of his pocket. One, a wrench, and two a small fob that looks like a car key. He taps the fob twice, and suddenly, about twenty feet away from where Patty's standing, a spaceship appears. "Cool little piece of tech I got off the Kree. I gotta steal your catalytic converter though, and probably..." he starts to climb under the car, "Yeah, probably your battery. The acid in it should work for what I need it to do. You, need to walk aboard that ship, and wait. I'll be...five minutes, tops." He's already at work under the car, cranking away at something.
Patty Sloan Patty watches as a space ship suddenly appears. "You have got to be kidding me!" She states as she looks at it and then at Quill. "Wait you are going to scrap my car! UGH! Whatever. Just do what needs done." Sirens can already be heard in the distance and they are definitely getting closer.

"Okay I don't need told twice. Just hurry Mister!" She quickly rushes to the ship and climbs aboard. She has no idea if anyone else is on the ship. She has no idea what to do or where to go once on board. So she stays at the top of the ramp, watching her poor baby get destroyed.
Peter Quill Destroyed is a strong word. He's out from under the car in a couple of minutes, small piece of machinery in his hand. He then gets to the front of the vehicle, and in a moment has the battery literally yanked out of it. He jogs over to the spaceship, and motions inside, "Come on, get going. And it's Quill. Peter Quill." As soon as he's up the ramp, he hits a button and it closes. He then takes the fob out and taps it a couple of times again, and the ship cloaks. "Should keep them off our scent for a little bit...but they're gonna get a show if they stick around and investigate..."
Patty Sloan "Patty Sloan. Nice to meet you." She quickly moves deeper into the ship and stays there so she is hidden on board the now cloaked ship. "I need to make a call." She quickly gets out her phone and calls her boss. "Umm yeah I need a few days off. I'm kinda sick." She states to the person on the other end. There is some complaints on the phone but its left alone and Patty gets a weeks vacation!"
Peter Quill Peter yells, "ROCKET! I GOT THE CONVERTER!" And then he's off to the engine bay to work. It's...relatively quick work, truth be told. The cops apparently miss the car sitting partly hidden from the road down a drive, so they aren't there when the Milano lifts off, and heads over to NYC to deposit its passenger. And then Quill is off, back to the stars where more adventure awaits!
