Emma Frost Ever since there had been an exodus from Monster Island, and Superman and the Human Torch had nearly obliterated one of the escapees, SHIELD had been monitoring the entire region. Using the old SOSUS system (a string of sonar monitors deployed throughout the Pacific from the United States used to monitor Soviet submarines over the Cold War) to track things. A ping had been picked up along the undersea currents. Moving fast. Far, far too fast. Too big to be somehing from Atlantis..
SHIELD had put out a request to the Justice League for assistance given their lack of assets in the area that could handle something so big. And what it was was something registering tens of thousands of tons and going more than a hundred and twenty knots, skimming through the surface and leaving tsunami-like waves in ti's wake!
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz flies like a fish above water, just barely over the surface to avoid radar or any other detection method; including the creature they go after, dimming his visibility and phasing JUST out of reality to move at maximum speed to match the the water as he triangulates and approaches at sideways terminal velocity. He telepathically scans the area to see who else has responsed to the call.
M'gann M'orzz M'gann happened to have the afternoon off from classes, so when the call went out to check out a possible giant monster in the ocean, she was only too glad to respond. She could take bioship, but she's leery of it potentially being hurt in the ensuing fight. So instead she flies out herself, racing along through the skies and out over the ocean to meet at the last known location then following what's left of it's wake, trying to contain the waves through creative use of telekinesis.

When J'onn reaches out telepathically, she'll repond with her position and actions.
Emma Frost J'Onn and M'Gann are both picking up something that is virtually feral and primal. A beast of a mind that's thoughts are like the raging tempest of the sun metaphorically. Something overwhelming that can only be described as.. Monstrous. The size of a skyscraper, going through the water so smoothly like it was flying through the air, displacing it for kilometers around. The waves are massive, but able to be held down just enough that they wouldn't hit the shores however far away they were.
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz thinks to M'gann . o O "This is going to be beyond our abilities to attack physically unless we have no other choice....but even psychically it could be just overwhelming....almost as if physical. Working in tandem we might have a greater chance, but we should handle it like guiding a mountain down a glacier....dim your presence, both physically and psychically down to a minimum...."
M'gann M'orzz Responding back in kind, M'gann offers, "I don't think we're going to be able to attack it on a psychic level, uncle. There isn't enough consciousness there to manipulate, this isn't a thinking being so much as a... a feral beast, acting on instinct. But given that Superman and Human Torch managed to take one down themselves, we should be able to do similar. We draw it out to the deeper parts of the ocean and just... tear it apart." She does, however, keep her presence to a minimum for the time being. Focusing on ensuring the waves stay contained and don't cause problems for anyone on shore.
Emma Frost It's a huge thing that likely has a brain the size of a house inside the reinforced skull. Telepathically assaulting it would quite probably be agonizing. They could however redirect it - but on an emotional or even instinctive level. As it feels that it's course is being adjusted some.. At least by the way the waves were suppressed.. It's going to a tight u-turn over in the water far, far more effectively than something it's mass and size could be at that speed.
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz links more showing her images of the martian brain, "You forget the nature of conciousness. Our minds are made of of living self contained organisms; cells and the softare that runs on them in our mind....but in a creature so vast, even a cell is a mind....we dont attack it, we merge into it, lean into it....yes we can punch it but we can also change it..simply tell the mountain to go back to the sea where there is less trouble...."
M'gann M'orzz "To what effect, uncle? We can't stay out here perpetually, turning it back every time it decides it wants to go ashore and wreak havoc. Any influence we have on the creature would be temporary at best, and would likely take a massive effort from both of us just to accomplish. And potentially would result in massive psychic damage to us in the process. I appreciate and agree with the idea that living creatures deserve to live... but not at the expense of other living beings. This creature poses a threat to humanity on a basic level. It's only purpose seems to be to eat and destroy." M'gann pulls up as he creature begins it's u-turn, shifting aside to keep out of the creature's path while still maintaining a distance that allows her to control the giant waves it's passage creates.
Emma Frost Skimming along through the water, the thing has twisted about cleanly over at high speed. And now they can make it out coming towards the surface. It's a huge, monstrous shark more than thirty meters long. Long limbs like fins held tight to it's body - it can go up on land just as easily as it swims. It's going to charge towards them through the air, teeth gleaming and ready to shred!
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz says, "Your logic is sound, but sometimes as I have learned from the humans....you cant base every decision on logic....implant a memory...a momory of cities and pollution and the sting of missiles...and fire....feed it your fear of fire....let it know what it will face if it keeps heading towards the humans.....""
M'gann M'orzz "I don't know that this creature has the capability of such memory, uncle J'onn. It isn't a person, or even a canine. It runs on the lizard hindbrain, the sort of instinctive reaction that was supposed to have driven the dinosaurs. We can't keep it out here indefinitely. We could turn it away now, putting others at risk by leaving it out in the ocean to hunt ships, submarines, low-flying planes... or we can stop it here and now." M'gann stays put, watching the creature as it starts to breach, sending out to the Martian Manhunter, "Is this really something you want to leave in tne ocean to prey on people?"
Emma Frost It's something that could easily shatter a cruise liner. Something that could rend a battleship in two. A beast that could rage through an island, leaving waves in it's wake and from it's passing that could shatter it. It goes to charge through and leaps up like a bullet. Teeth flashing as it goes to leap at the pair with a gnash that could shatter a skyscraper!
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz sighs. It is so easy to empathize with something when you can hear its thoughts and know more things on this Earth are sapient than humans want to be comfortable with.

This isnt one of them.

"Then we stop it."

He flies around and at astonishing speed and with facile strength tries to punch it directly in the nose.
M'gann M'orzz M'gann nods and retains her intangibility as the creature emerges. Once it's gaping maw is left open.... she flies straight into it, diving down its gullet to start attacking from within while J'onn attacks from without. Using that telekinetic ability to start slicing and tearing through anything that seems to have a purpose, that serves a biological function. Eventually she will reach something that is vital!
Emma Frost It's reinforced like a shark. Even slamming into it from the inside takes considerable force as M'Gann goes to press organs against one another. Since when was something's stomach so strong? The thing crashes about over even as J'Onn goes to smash into it. His fist goes to slam forwards, stopping the shark mid-leap, crushing into cartilage, slamming it bcak towards the water with force to set off a seismograph!
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz doesnt get pain in his fist from hitting many things that originated in this solar system but he telepathically commands the cells of hte hand to feel no pain, and then launchs in to try it a second time. Its the weak spot. If it turns around and goes back from whence it came, maybe they wont have to do the worst.
M'gann M'orzz M'gann strains and toils inside the beast, tearing organs from their connecting points to leave them hanging loose in the body cavity, taking the time to ensure she can rip something free, even if it takes multiple hits or cuts or pulls to dislodge it. Anything that will help to slow it down while J'onn continues beating on it.
Emma Frost It's pushing M'Gann's strength to it's limits as she rips and tears! Even as the powerful muscles of the thing try to squish organs back into place. Walls closing and crushing. The beast's inside stronger than it's outside as J'Onn goes to crush into it again and again! The beast knows pain, the beast can't understand what's going on.. It has a primeval lizard brain but it can grasp the concept of not understnading, not knowing. It has instincts. And it's instincts tell it to get out of there. And so it tries to race away, swimming at extreme speeds to try and do so!
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz considers, Maybe it can be taught....he follows and stops engaging it for a bit, only to strike it if it goes in the direciton of land again..or approaches a ship. He also tells M'gann, "it may be invulnerable, but blood is still liquid....stop that in parts of its brain and maybe it will sleep."
M'gann M'orzz M'gann pulls out from its innards as it starts to race off, keeping pace with the creature but not attempting to fight and instead jumping back into the debate with J'onn. "That presents the same problem as the last suggestion. Any 'humane' option towards this creature leaves it alive to heal and attack again. We cannot spend our lives chasing after this creature and putting it to sleep just out of some sense of 'live and let live' to a creature that has no ability to understand or comprehend such a concept." She focuses her gaze on the monster, on her own vision, sending out a beam of heat not unlike Kryptonian heat vision, scoring a line along the creatures hide in an attempt to penetrate the scaly skin and get at the skull, and the brain beneath it.
Emma Frost The thing is feral, acting out of pure instinct. Like something with rabies, but far crazier. It is simply a monster, a giant beast the likes of which legends are told by fearful beings huddled around fires, praying that such things never come across them. It is a monster of an ancient type - the kind that ona n infinite number of worlds there is always something like. M'Gann goes into the brain. Her fist goes tos hatter the brainstem, like one was snapping a nekc.
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz can sense what she is doing. And knows that the most efficient way to put it out of its misery with no pain, the most efficient way to take it out is to go to its reptile brain and broadcast at maximum power a very simple thought......down is up.....and up is down. So that it goes flat on its back in the water....and stops swimming.

Stops breathing.
M'gann M'orzz When J'onn attacks it through psychic means, M'gann continues her physical assault. With the hide and skull carved through, she can reach it and crush the brainstem, halting the signals from the brain to the body. Leaving it immobile for J'onn to finish off with the telepathic commands to stop. Just. Stop. Stop everything. Stop swimming. Stop breathing. Stop existing.
Emma Frost Between the two, they can put the thing to.. Sleep? Not quite the right thing. To shut down it's systems, to turn off it's brain.. To leave it adrift in the ocean, resting eternally. The beast goes quietly.
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz sighs sadly, not enjoying this but doing what he must.
M'gann M'orzz M'gann reaches out to give J'onn some sympathic comfort for the hard decision that had to be made. She doesn't like it any more than he does, but when something can be neither reasoned with nor contained, and it poses a very real threat to all life on the planet... there's not much choice left.
