Patience Alperen The Candle, Booke and Belle is not what one would consider a 24-hour shop. In fact it's hours are clearly displayed on the little sign propped up in the front window. But, as the saying goes, membership has its privileges. Since it also serves as the Justice League Dark's current base of operations and gathering place, members do seem to come and go at all hours.

At 4AM this freezing winter morning, there are a few lights on farther into the shop and the tea pot is heating up as Patience sits, mmm, patientely seated nearby. In her lap are several old books. The dusty and musty sort that almost no one ever bothers to read because they detail legands and lore that everyone knows about. Only the facts they know aren't accurate, passing into the realms of fantasy after so many generations retelling and embelishing the truth.

However old musty tomes, written centuries ago? They may reflect the inaccuracies of the time in which they were printed - but they haven't changed the story, the facts, with every reading of their pages the same way that legends and myths change with every oral retelling and interpretation.

Patience has the top book carefully opened, her brown eyes intently scanning the pages as she searches for details long forgotten.
Daniel Ketch The Ghost Rider was busy last evening, and Daniel was released around midnight only. Since the shop was closer than his apartment, he crashed in a couch, exhausted.

But sleep comes and goes, and tonight it went after a particularly vivid nightmare/memory. It is 4AM, he is not going to sleep more tonight for sure, and three hours is not too bad all things considered. Now, he only needs to find Nettie's stash of coffee.

That is how he stumbles into Patience in the kitchen, with the teapot. And the old books, which is about the only thing more common in the shop than tea. Of course Danny looks particularly scruffy today, given he slept on his clothes and not for long. "Oh... hello?" Not particularly eloquent either, but he rarely manages that around Patience.
Patience Alperen Patience Alperen wasn't so engrossed int he pages of the book that she didn't hear the footsteps of the arrival. Knowing she had locked the door after she'd entered, it had to be someone already here. Or probably was someone already here. Those who can move through solid walls are few and far between. Though sometimes not far enough.

However she recognized the footfalls and, as Danny realized he wasn't the only one up and about, she lifted her head from the old books and smiled. "Good morning. I've water on for some tea" she offers. "I had some thinks to research and I find I do my best reading in the night while it's quiet." Still, she closes the book without hesitation. Whatever it was she can look it up again.
Daniel Ketch Alas, no coffee? "I... tea is good," not really, but he has time to hunt down the coffee later, before work. "It is morning already, hmm?" He peers through the window, dark... well, for New York. "Er... sorry to interrupt the reading, I was sleeping, but... I guess that is not going to happen tonight anymore. We keep odd hours, yeah?"
Patience Alperen Patience Alperen sees the disappointment and laughs quietly."It isn't quite morning I suppose. Sunrise isn't for a bit longer." Shaking her head in amusement at the forlorn look at the mention of tea she notes, "Nettie has other things to drink you know. I just started water for tea." She gestures to the counter, "She's tucked the coffee maker around behind her rather large selection of exotic teas."

Setting her books down she shakes her head again, "You're not interupting anything, no. And - Yes, we all keep incredibly unusual hours, it's true." A side glance is aimed at Danny, "How are you Danny?" Because he looks like it was a long night.

Moving over without waiting for him to agree to coffee, she grabs the caraffe and fills it with water so she can start a fresh pot brewing for him.
Daniel Ketch "It was a short night for me, and a busy day for the partner," admits Daniel. "Someone else had a very bad evening, as you can imagine," and he decides to look for that coffee, skipping tea for now. Someone hid the coffee maker, there is evil afoot. "I have to work soon, normal work. You should go to sleep, though."
