J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz had offered to teach Essix some lessons on shapeshifting after their recent encounter in Central Park. While different species, Jonn has every confidence in being abet to help simply given his experience in this area and has chosen an isolated area on a New York beach to discuss, currently i the same human younger guise he was using when Essix appeared as a bird.
Essix Getting the location, Essix uses google maps to find out exactly where it is. She's still learning her way around the cities that the HyperLoop travels so, with New York being her favorite.

From the HyperLoop station she simply turned into a seagull and started flying. One advantage to what she was is that she didn't require eyes to actually see. With her cell phone on and tucked inside her, she can follow the instructions even in flight.

As she lands on the beach, she is already flowing from bird to her human form, the one she always uses. She's never really thought about being someone else, that's a little more advanced thinking than she has bothered to do.
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz smiles as she appears, "Its good to see youa gain. Let's start with what you most want to do with shapeshiftng and how yur abilities work. I can do a lot of things, and have learned new tricks over the years, but as a tacher, its morea bout what you need or want than what I know.
Essix As she approaches, Essix walks turns into a bounce of excitement. "It is very good to see you again!" she chirps merrily before stopping not far from where he stands.

"I have been looking forward to learning how you change shapes," she then says, speaking very quickly. "For my people it comes as naturally as human's breathing, we are created with the knowledge to learn how to morph from one form to another... that is once we learn a form."
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz nods, "And how do you learn this? Since I ascerating no thought as my people understand it, I assume the physiology of your mind is highly different and that you dont possesses telepathy....so how do you gain an objects...sense of shape?" He smiels, curiously.
Essix Even though she has come to a stop, Essix is still bouncing slightly in place. "Oh, of course, I should explain that!" She laughs, grinning ear to ear.

"There is no word for what my species call ourselves," she begins with hardly a pause. "We do not communicate with words. You do not perceive thoughts because we are, for lack of a better way to explain it, one and many."

Looking around for a moment, she shrugs when she doesn't see what she is looking for, then kneels down in the sand to smooth out a spot. "This represents my people," she then says and draws a circle with her finger. "We are one when we are together like this. We share thoughts, feelings, everything through the connection of being one."

Now she draws a much smaller circle right beside the large circle. "This is me as an individual. I can rejoin the many as one any time, well when I go home, but until then I am me, one, alone."

She pauses here to give him time to soak that in, since she does talk so fast.
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz listens with interest, watching and letting her talk. He has traveled the world and read enough Martial lore to understanda wide range of life forms and species exists. "At times, Martians had something almost like a hivemind and a few cities even got ridiculsouly close to it, but our concepts as individuals are still more hardwired into us. The fluidity between I and we sounds much more gray with your people, which is very interesting."

He isnt rude, and if anything his interest is quite genuine. his body language shows eager curiousity whilst his shoulders convey confidence and a benign willingness to teach.
Essix Essix nods as she looks up at him with that same broad grin. "We are not born like humans. When another is needed, the Assembly merely creates one. A piece from each of the many is offered, and new individual is created."

She smooths her hand over the sand to remove the circles. "Each new individual begins to learn forms the second they are conscious. For me, that was the moment I emerged from my pod here on earth, but the memory of others from the Assembly remains with me."

As she stands back up, she brushes the sand off her knees. "If I touch a thing I learn how it is constructed and can begin learning to be that thing. Now, as for why you cannot read my mind, it is because there is no mind. My species is comprised entirely of electrical signals through our entire being. I do not have eyes, ears, lungs, or any organs at all, but I can see and hear in my natural state."

Again she pauses, canting her head, "Did that answer your questions thus far?"
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz considers, "It does. It sounds like it would be work to learn how to reach out with my telepathy but not impossible...just a lot of owrk" he smiles, "and it sounds like similar to my own species in some way but the opposite. We have birthing chambers and communally raise our young but also have definitive family units and two parents or more like humans. Telepathhy helps us act in a communal fashio like what you have with your aseembly, but it is still many creating the one as needed. a fascinating dichotomy. How complete is your reading of a thing when you touch it? It sounds comprehnsive.
Essix Essix hmms softly, taking a moment to consider the answer to his question. She had never actually considered the level of difficulty, or how many layers there might be. She had merely touched, learned, and touched again if needed.

"With some things, it is quite easy to understand the construction of it, such as a chair or a lamp," she begins. "Inanimate objects are far easier to master and living things, and learning to become human took me nearly two years to master. Oddly, I could form the internal of a human being much easier than mastering how they looked. Their nervous system though," she whistles and then laughs. "The sensation of touch once I mastered it was something pretty amazing."

Blinking she brings herself back to the question. "I have what humans call a photographic memory, though they use that term and mean eidetic memory, mine is actually photographic. That has made it far easier for me to touch something and learn it, and usually the first touch is enough to /know/ how it is constructed, but not always enough to know how to mimic it."
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz nods and considers, "SO what did your touch of my form indicate? Did you notice a marked difference between a human and my form or did you gain the ability to shift in hte same we we do? If so, I'm curious what isngight you could guage between my compiste martian and human form and the guise you initially met me in?"

He looks curious and shifts back to his more iconic JLA form, extending his hand in green so she can guage the difference between both.
Essix Her aqua eyes blink a few times as Essix realizes that she hadn't though much about what the hand shake with him had told her. The information was there in her memory, and after a moment she has recalled it.

It was at that moment she realizes he is green, and large, and extending his hand. Another blink, a quick one, and she takes the offered hand.

"I am not certain I could put into words the differences," she offers with a soft sigh. "I could tell that you were human, organs, lungs, etc. but how you became human is not information that I can garner from a touch... and wow are you different than humans!" She doesn't let go of his hand just yet. "I can tell how different you are from humans, but not how you just went from human to... you."
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz nods, "If it took you two years to emulate a humans nerbous system, I suspect it would take you 10-20 to master our abilities to change shape evne if you could match our own at a molular level but I am willing to teach you martian shapeshifting if nothing else. But I worked with students at Happy Harbor for many years helping them grow into their own abilities; so for example you have a photographic memory and can thus mimick anything you've touched at one point or another?"
5r5He is quite fascinated by the whole thing and shifts back into a human in case a random jogger happens to move by.
Essix "OH! I go to Happy Harbor," Essix blurts out loudly, too loudly and starts bouncing in place again. "Nightwing helped me enroll so I could learn human socialization, because I am not very good at interacting with humans correctly. I tend to ask too many questions, and apparently inappropriate questions as well."
5rShe grins brightly, then finally lets go of his hand. "I can recall the information from anything I have touched as if I was just touching it again, though that is more difficult at times then just touching the thing again. I would very much like to learn the difference in how I change forms, and how you shape shift, even if it will take a long time."

Secondary pause, "I am on earth until I have learned everything there is to learn about the people, plants, animals, environment... well, everything."
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz smiles, "Then I will be happy to teach you on a regular basis since I am still on faculty even if I have been cgone a while. The questions are part of what I offerred on teaching, so I am hppy to answer them" he smiles widely and listens for the rest.

"That is a highly potent memory, especially based on electrical signals. I would be curious if there was a quantum link between you and the hive mind before you touched again, evne if it were only subconcious. Still I am surprsied you dont show up more on sensors for increased Electrical activity; it implies at a molecular level your form must be very busy. And it is a fascinating gift.
Essix Essix had heard a lot of words in response to her people and what they could due, most were based in confusion and a shoulder shrug of accepting that what she had said was over their head. J'onn was different, he had actually understood and complimented her, and this caused her to pause in conversation, blink and stare for a short time.

Once she was able to shake herself out of the surprise, the smile returned to her face as she said, "You are the first being to even /try/ to understand me and my people. I am... very grateful for that. Most just sort of shrug and accept whatever I say as words of explanation, but they do not actually try to understand."

Folding her hands behind her back to keep herself from just hugging him, she shifts slightly in the sand. "I have never seen the Assembly," she then explains. "I was created and placed in the pod, then launched toward the Earth before consciousness occurred. From this I assume there is a familial link in my neurons, or perhaps as you say some sort of link across space."
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz nods, "Your people clearly have atechnology advaned enough to do so...and it is my nature to be curious but also since the last of my kind I tend to think longer term than most people. And differently," he smiles, "And I do admit, while I have a lot of gifts, molecular scanning anything I touched with perfect memry retention would be, well not only handy but have won several battls in the past when I couldnt figure something out. I think you should let Happy Harbor keep letting you push the boundaries of what you can do and mimck." He smiels, "If for no other reason than to have improved techniques to report to the rest of your family at the Assembly."
Essix Family. Essix has not thought of the Assembly that way, but truth be old that is what they were... even if meant thousands of parents, siblings, etc. in one. That thought makes her giggle, before she looks back up at him.

"The last of your kind," she repeats, a hint of sadness to her tone. "Do you at least find companionship and family here on Earth?"

Realizing that might have been one of those inappropriate questions she quick shifts the conversation topic back to something less personal. "Everything I read, everything I see, I remember it all, thus the actual classes at Happy Harbor are merely a formality to the process of socialization among humans. What other subjects do you teach?"
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz says, "I have, both through indirect associations like Mgann or through knowledge and friendship and choice with the Justice LEague or Happy Harbour. Still, it is, difficult at times.' he shrugs and smiles, "And the classes are useful to teach more than the memre subject material....for example, academic knowledge for a practical skill becomes more useful once you show it to someone else."
Essix "How do you show math to someone else?" Essix asks first, because it was the first thing to pop into her head.

Regarding the answer to the question she thought was too much, she hmms softly and says, "I am still attempting to fully understand the concept of a friend. I understand at the root they are people you are close to, whom you can call on when you are in need, and who will do the same of you when they are. For me, I would help anyone in need, whether they are a friend or not, and would like to. Earth has so many problems, and so many levels."

Blinking, she realizes that she is drifting off from her original thought, so gets back to it. "Nightwing is my friend and mentor, he has taught me a great deal about how to help people and protect people, but I do not know if he would consider me a friend. Does it not usually go both ways?"
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz says, "That is what proofs are for, but I also teach math," he smiles, "Though that is a very specialized language and takes time to learn, so trying to compare math between species is a way to teach language but even that takes time; some cultures do not understand the concept of proofs well evne if they can understand extremely advanced mathemetics. And I like your criterial for friendship but need alone doesnt establish it since its also about what a person would do if the need were held by you in turn; altrusim is good but not at the expense of your own well being or safety. Nightwing is, in my opinion, the best metor and teacher I have ever met; and given the number of EArths heroes I know, saying something. If he recommends it, you sould take it to the bank. And I am quite confident if he teaches you, he would consider you a friend."
Essix "What would I take to the bank? I have no monetary funds," Essix says completely straight faced, no giggle, clear indication that she doesn't understand what he means by that statement. She doesn't linger there long however.

"I love reading and learning new things, in fact I am currently learning three languages merely to be able to speak them, in case I get to travel to other places or there is a need for them here." When you don't need to breath, run on speaking is so much easier.

"I accidently broke the cardinal rule regarding privacy and secrecy with Nightwing, I went home in his pouch. He has since learned that I keep his secrets, and will die with them."

She tilts her head slightly, "My own well being or safety. I do not usually think much of those things, as I have very few required needs, but I suppose my safety is something I should consider more."
J'onn J'onzz J'onn J'onzz says, "It is a human saying that indicats that you can accept the value of it as evident and logical even if you dont immediately see it on first examination. It conveys my confirence on the subject in context. It is interesting that you can sense something at a molecular level but still need to learn mental concepts; telepathy can be highly useful for that which alas one be helpful on conveying konwoedge to you And condifentiality and secrecy are important. I am glad that you understand that importance now." He smiles."
Essix Listening carefully to his explanation, Essix ahs softly and nods, "Oh I see now! Thank you. Yes, I believe Nightwing to be very trustworthy, and he has been most informative. There are so many gaps in what I know and do not know, that is another reason for going to Happy Harbor, though I am not a teenager."

Having touched J'onn, she knew how he was constructed, but that didn't stop her from now taking a moment to further study his appearance. Unlike humans their perception of what is and is not beautiful, she is able to look beyond that. "It was only recently that Damian pointed out to me that I can both fulfill my purpose on this planet, and have a live life of my own. It was a foreign concept to me, to have a 'life', so I am still working out what I will do with this life, and the next, and the next... my species are very long lived."
