Maria Hill The firing range usually is empty at this late hour, which is why the Deputy Director has chosen it to come down and shoot some lead downrange. It's important for even the higher ranking, administrative members of SHIELD to keep their skills sharp, after all. The targets down at the far end of the range have already had a full clip dropped into them, and, ear protection over her ears, Maria hits the button to bring the paper target uprange to inspect personally, before she resets for another.
Bobbi Morse Agent Morse and Specialist Fields are at the far end with the quartermaster Agent Hightower discussing a peculiar looking rifle and the testing parameters for the evening. It's quiet, there aren't usually many people around at this time of day, so it's the perfect time to try something different. "...that's the point, is you don't need to look. I know the project was mothballed, but I need to see it in action to understand it," Bobbi says as the quartermaster is setting up some clamps to hold the rifle in place facing down range. Specialist Fields looks nervous though.
Gothic Lolita     The other lane that's currently occupied is where the near constant fire from ICER rounds is coming from, as Agent Wednesday idly bops to music she's playing internally, an ICER pistol in either hand. She appears to have her lane set on holotargets for that reason as she smoothly tracks from target to target. She's set the system to simulate where armor covers a target as well, so she's having to aim for different areas of the body for the 'vulnerable' areas.
Jessica Drew Hearing protectors around her neck, gun holstered on the SHIELD issue belt, Jessica strolls into the range with only a minute pause at seeing who she will be keeping company with. She sets up in the lane next to Agent Wednesday with a nod and a hand wave to her then settles her ear protection on. Down at the end of the lane the first of her targets drops into place.
Maria Hill Hill glances around. The range is getting busy for a midweek evening. A hint of amusement flits across her face for the briefest moment, and she checks her sidearm, clearing it and replacing a new clip in it, sliding it into her right side holster (the left carries an ICER) before making her way over to Bobbi. "Morse." She flicks a glance at the declassed and mothballed project she's setting up. "Interesting choice. I hope you're not intending to certify on it." It's delivered seriously, but Mockingbird knows Hill long enough and well enough to know it's definitely the closest Maria gets to joking.
Bobbi Morse The rifle is handed over to the quartermaster who sets it in to the jig. Specialist Fields says, "There are probably good reasons the project was scrapped, but the guy who was doing it passed away years ago."

Bobbi smiles and says, "That's fine, it's not actually about the project per-se." She turns and stiffens, "Deputy-Director Hill," and then relaxes. "No ma'am, some how the chips in this sucker have found their way in to drones attacking our agents around New York City. It's a bit of a puzzle, but this rifle is unmodified which gives us a good baseline in understanding how it.. 'thinks'." She motions to the rifle as the quartermasters steps back and salutes. The specialist salutes too. "It's an AI assisted aiming mechanism with an adaptable barrel. In theory, it means you never miss." Resting next to the gun is a clip of rubber-tipped bullets. The quartermaster is being extra cautious and he says, "Agent Morse you are clear to test the rifle."
Gothic Lolita     Lolita finishes her current carnival of carnage, both weapons coming down to point at the ground as she finishes, then studies the targeting information. While she is an inhumanly good shot...it's still good to practice different techniques with the ICERs. it's a lot harder to bullseye vulnerable spots in a place where the round will actually affect the target, after all. She sighs a bit, frowning to herself, then tilts her head, glancing over curiously at Bobbi's lance. "Similar to the advanced scopes they have on sniper rifles these days that can predict everything that would affect the shot? Distance, gravity, wind speed, and the like?" She nods to Maria. "Deputy Director."
Maria Hill Hill lifts a brow skeptically. "There are at least a dozen reasons that project was mothballed, Agent." But she doesn't stop Morse from anything, simply taking a large step... back.

And replacing her ear protection.

She sideglances to GL. "Agent Wednesday Murderbot." Hill is definitely in a good mood.
Bobbi Morse Bobbi smiles to GL and nods her head, "Yep. Except the guy that was making this did it 30 years ago. Well, obviously it didn't work or we'd all be using his system now." Bobbi sympathises with the larger step back and will be doing the same once it's loaded. Explosions are a possibility. There are ballistic vests lining the targeting booth area for that reason alone. The quartermaster has been vigilant.

Bobbi steps up to the rifle and loads in the cartridge, then takes out her table and steps back to where Maria is. She sets the targeting parameters to 'heart'. "Normally a person is involved, but I want to see what this system does when it's autonomous." She presses 'go'. There is a rapid set of seven shots, five go to the heart, one to where the heart would be if the person was flipped around and the last goes through the haed.
Gothic Lolita     "...yes, that seems properly calibrated." Lolita says dryly as she safes her pistols, returning them to the armorer's table as she peers over, giving Maria brief smile at her greeting. "All but the last shot. Though I suppose some aliens might have their pulmonary systems in their head."
Maria Hill Maria doesn't look overly impressed. "Well, at least it didn't explode like the first two prototypes." She crosses her arms. "Though there's another project from the same time period that might be worth putting in front of Fitzsimmons." She refers to them as if they are a uniperson.
Bobbi Morse Bobbi frowns, even though GL is delighted and Maria is ...Maria. "No that's not good. It shouldn't have mirrored like that, or decided to take a head shot." She brings up the large 3D data set the chips used during that small round of combat and hmms thoughtfully.

"I believe Agent Harris was trying to use a fungi like near-field network of self modifying chips to create a learning system. But he didn't have our understanding of artificial intelligences and machine learning we have now. This thing is hacking its own reward function." She nods to the quartermaster who starts disassembling the jig.

"Well, next I need to figure out how this runaway machine learning chipset ended up in a bunch of drones that tried to hack in to the stock exchange and attacked our agents." She rolls her eyes, just another day at the office.
Gothic Lolita     "Perhaps if you had Agent Johnson look at the system and see if there are any errors in the AI loop?" Lolita suggests, tilting her head slightly. "Though that is quite a jump for use, from rifles to the stock market."
Maria Hill "Mm." The Deputy Director doesn't say much beyond this, but she's been interested in the incident Morse has referred to. "How indeed?" She drums her fingers of one hand on her bicep. "Loose ends need to be tied up."
Bobbi Morse Bobbi checks that the targeting chip is off, and double checks that the chamber is empty when the quartermaster hands the rifle back to her. "This is going back in to storage and I'm going back to the Faux case files. I have a hunch he might have been behind this spectacular display of negligence."

She hands the rifle back to Specialist Fields who excuses himself and wanders off to put it back in the mothball storage. "I wasn't expecting so many people to be here tonight," she comments and folds her arms. "Was there some memo I missed on meeting at the shooting range?"
Gothic Lolita     Lolita shakes her head, her pigtails waving a she does. About all she's kept of her gothic splendor as a SHIELD agent is those pigtails with little skull clips to keep them in place. And a matching choker. Then again, the uniform she was given is a lot more durable too, even if it's...unfashionable. "I don't need to recharge often when I'm not using my full capabilities, and I wanted to practice vulnerability targeting with the ICER pistols, since they have different ballistics than a normal pistol." She smiles faintly. "Also, I have attracted a crowd once or twice, so I try to avoid causing the armorer trouble."
Maria Hill Hill is more blunt. "This late its usually dead, so I don't have to deal with idiots, probies, and gawkers." She eyes the clock. "Plus I have paperwork. And three meetings today alone, plus I have to talk to the Intelligence committee of the Senate tomorrow." She looks annoyed.
Bobbi Morse Bobbi can't help herself, "Yeeah. I'll take a psychopathic stealth armor AIM killer setting off a mini-nuke over that any day." Though, Maria probably knows how much that mission has upset Bobbi because of the deaths of those agents, she is doing her usual 'use humor' to deflect the pain. "Somehow you both get an audience. So does Agent Johnson. I had to book the place out when I was helping her train her powers."
Gothic Lolita     "I'm not sure I'd agree with that." Lolita says thoughfully to Bobbi. "But then, I don't get bored with paperwork nearly as quickly." she admits. She shrugs her shoulders slightly, then smiles faintly. "Agent Johnson tends to attract attention through her nature, I think."
Maria Hill Hill seems vaguely amused at the mention of Johnson. But it's Morse her eyes light on. "Come by my office after I'm back from DC tomorrow," she says. "I wanted to go over some details of the last AAR you filed."
Bobbi Morse Bobbi nods her head to Hill, "Yes ma'am. Excuse me, I do need to go do a bit more research on these chips." She stiffens to Maria and then waves to the quartermaster who has gone back to organising the area. She waves to GL, "Agent Wednesday." Then she heads off.
Gothic Lolita     Lolita waves back as Bobbi starts heading off, a brow elevating slightly at the sudden stiffness in her posture as she glances to Maria. "Agent Morse." she says cheerfully. "If you need any help with the analysis, I am...not currently assigned to any cases." Mostly just to what Daisy needs really.
Maria Hill Hill nods to Morse. "Agents." She gives Gothic Lolita a half-quirk of a smile. "Try program 489-Alpha," she advises the LMD before she departs to her quarters.
