Kara Danvers "Danvers," says one of the editors, Donovan. His job is intern wrangler in some respects. Not to make them get coffee, but to get them doing more writing, more reporting.. transforming them in to real journalists.

Kara turns on a dime and almost topples. She adjusts her glasses and smiles, "Yes Mr. Donovan." Dressed in a light grey pencil skirt, black heels, and a matching jacket with white blouse beneath. She has her hair up in a bun and is her usual awkward self in the bullpen.

"Good work on the King T'Challa article. Keep that up, you're making a name for yourself here," he says and does a pistol shoot with a hand, then walks by and on to whatever other business he's doing.

Kara's eyes widen and she nods her head. Huh. Some positivity from the guy, that's a change. "Th.. thank you," she says turning as he goes past but he's already mentally moved on. She nods, typical, and waggles a finger at the air. "Thank you." To no one in particular she says, "Actually he's a really inspiring and nice guy..."
Nia Nal "Oh, uh, excuse me! Sorry!," offers the new girl with a wince as she almost collides with Donovan. She hugs her laptop bag to her chest and steps to the side so he can pass by, and she lets out a held breath. She's from California, so she doesn't handle the winter snow in Metropolis as well as others. So, boots, black slacks and a heavy, long cable knit sweater with a pale blue scarf wrapped around her neck make up her outfit. It works for her.

Nia turns to watch Donovan continue on before she glances at Kara. "So, what're the chances they have anything decent in the cafeteria today? Or should I just start going out to eat on my lunch break?," she asks curiously. Kara has likely seen the newbie building up the courage to -actually- talk to someone for a day or two now, and it seems that Kara has become her first real attempt at shy socialization. "Because that 'lasgana' yesterday was a no-go for me."
Kara Danvers Kara's turns and adjusts her glasses again. A flash of a smile and she says, "Oh hi. I've seen you around. You're Nia aren't you? the new reporter? I read your article on the changing modes of trans acceptance in California universities. It was very insightful, it seems parts of humanity repeats the same approaches of bigotry again and again. Intolerance is such a stench. I liked your analogy of old fashioned ideals digging their claws in to maintain power and how that disenfranchises young adults who don't share their ideals."

She offers a hand to Nia and says, "I'm Kara. Kara Danvers. I'm an intern here. And yes, the lasagna didn't look terribly appealing. I don't think anyone here actually uses the cafeteria. It's Metropolis, there's amazing food places everywhere. If you'd like I can show you some of my favourites. I tend to drift more between the Planet and MetU as I'm a student there."

There's a quick glance at a clock on the wall, "Speaking of which, it is kinda lunch time. Are you a meat eater or vegeterian or vegan or... ? Because I'm starved and we could go get some food now if you'd like?"
Nia Nal She glances at the hand before reaching out to take it. She shakes it with a grin before she looks surprised. "Oh! You read that? Cool. And...thanks. Really." Nia clears her throat and brushes her fingers back through her hair once her hand is free. "I was lucky enough to grow up in a really accepting family, but...I still dealt with some bigots as I grew up. Mostly once I got into college, though. DC was a long way from my little town."

Nia grins ruefully before she slings her laptop bag over her shoulder, and her face lights up. "Lunch? sounds awesome, actually. I didn't have time for breakfast on the way out this morning. And I'm a...omnivore? Yeah, I like it all, I guess. So, Kara, you choose the place and I'll cover. Sound good?"
Kara Danvers Kara's eyebrows shoot up a touch, "Ah.. sure." Someone paying for her lunch. She has to pretend she's on the salary of an intern; the classic destitute student. On the other hand, Janet van Dyne gifted her very expensive business clothing which she uses sparingly and the DEO gives her a salary as well. It'd feel like double dipping if she didn't work very hard in all four of her jobs - university student, daily planet intern, DEO agent, and Titan.

"I know just the place," she says with a winning smile and offers the crook of her arm. "You know it's really interesting, usually it's the rural towns that are more bigoted than college campuses. I'm sorry you had to deal with that though. It's very unfair to be punished just because of who you are."

She starts them walking out of the planet and down the street. It's a sunny day despite the time of the year. There are people meandering about and rushing about as with any big city. "Is it a huge change, living in such a big city? It's a culture shock. Metropolis isn't that far away from New York and Gotham, but all three cities are so different."
Nia Nal She takes the crook of Kara's arm with her own, so they're walking arm-in-arm as she follows along. Kara can easily hear the girl's heart absolutely thundering in her chest at that. "Oh, I know! Most small towns would have been terrible, I bet. But...lucky, I guess. My parents chose the right place to raise us." Nia grins as they make their way out onto the street.

The girl glances skyward, taking in the pillars of glass and steel, shining and futuristic, piercing the sky. "Metropolis just...seems like I stepped into the future. Well, most of it. Suicide Slums is different, of course. But...yeah. It's not like Gotham or New York. It's like every city kind of has it's own soul?"

She shrugs and then smiles again. "I went to Columbia University for college. That's in DC. Now -that- was a change. Metropolis is kind of crazy, too."
Kara Danvers Kara smiles and says, "Safest city in the world, even in the slums. Home of Superman and Supergirl as well as the Titans." She chuckles and glances down, then as she looks up adjusts her glasses again. "I mean apart from when supervillains attack. Though that seems to happen more in New York these days than here. And of course Gotham.. poor poor Gotham."

She turns down an alley way in to another secret little world. A part of Metropolis from before its rebirth as the city of tomorrow. Cobble stones and tin cafes secreted away in the cramped passage between buildings. Kara takes them to a small cafe in the middle. The inside is old wood floors and dull yellow lights. It's busy in the alley way but people are spread out amongst the numerous options.

"You said you missed breakfast. This is Ricardi's, the best all day breakfast place in downtown Metropolis," Kara says and takes a seat next to the wall. There's a news clip in a picture frame of Supergirl shooting up in to the sky and a by line saying the photographer is Jimmy Olsen. It's two years old now, from around the time when Supergirl first showed up.

"I am going to have me a nice big breakfast," she comments and picks up the menu. A waiter comes by and pours out glasses of water, then moves on. "What about you?"
Nia Nal "Yeah, I've always been a bit nervous to visit Gotham. Even their masked heroes are scary, you know?" She lights up again once she's lef into the lovely back streets, and she takes it all in wide brown eyes. "Whoa, it's like what I'd imagine a European street or something. Like those cafes you see in movies?"

She watches Kara sit before she slides in across from her. She removes her laptop bag and slings it over the back of her chair before she picks up a menu. Her tummy audibly growls. "Mmmmmn. Same. Well, not huge, but...I'm hungry. I've been so busy I missed the gym yesterday. So I can't go crazy." She doesn't have a Kryptonian metabolism, afterall!

"The chicken and waffles sound amazing. I went to this place in LA that pretty much started the trend. So, so good. I bet here will be pretty good, too. I trust your taste."

She glances towards the Supergirl shot, and she chews her lip a bit, looking briefly distracted.

"Have you ever seen her?," she asks.
Kara Danvers There's an excited little nod and she says, "Yes the city was founded later than New York, its architectural style is much more akin to Portland, except then the rebuilds happened and everything got glass. I read up on the history of the place before my family moved here." That would be her fake DEO Swedish family.

Kara looks to the photo of ...herself... and smiles. She remembers that day. It was beautiful and sunny and the air smelt so fresh and she could hear all the birds singing. "Oh," she laughs and adjusts her glasses, then squints at the photo. "No. Gosh no. I mean, I've seen her on television and in pictures, but not seen seen her. But they say if you need help you can just call out her name and she'll come. I mean, that's what they say."

She clears her throat and looks back to Nia and asks, "How about you? You've only been in the city for a little while, but have you seen seen her?" Sometimes pretending not to be yourself can get weird. This is starting to become one of those moments. Noting that nibble on the lip she asks, "It seems like you already have a Supergirl story."

A waiter approaches and asks for their orders. Kara gets the big breakfast.. that Kryptonian metabolism is insatiable sometimes.
Nia Nal "Not really, no," she replies. She's lieing, and Kara can tell. She's had a vision about Supergirl. Something about her and chickens. There was a sunrise, too. It was a weird one.

She grins and makes her own order, adding a glass of orange juice to her order, as well. Once the waiter is gone, she turns back towards Kara. All of a sudden her eyes sag, and then close. Her chin rests a bit as she...simply falls asleep. She's very cute when she's sleeping, certainly, but that was both random and -fast-. She snoozes softly, as if she was not just having a lovely conversation.
Kara Danvers Kara furrows her eyebrows. She has to learn how to get a poker face. That's a thing apparently. She is not good at it. Why would Nia lie about Supergirl when she's absolutely one hundred percent sure this is the first real conversation she's ever had with Nia. The Waiter walks away and then Nia is asleep.

"OH... Nia?," she says with concern. Her heart is still beating, she can hear that. She places a hand on Nia's and gives it a small shake, "Nia?" Suddenly at a loss for what you're meant to do when somebody suddenly goes unconscious on you, she rises up and moves to Nia's side of the table and pats her cheek gently, "Nia?! Ahh.. err."

A hand dips in to her pocket and she feels the Titans T-comms.. nope, then the DEO comms.. yep. She lifts it up to her ear and says over the secure channel, << Hey uh. I think I need some help. I'm with a reporter and she's suddenly fallen asleep? >>
Nia Nal She awakens with a start a moment after the light tap, as if waking from a nightmare. She springs up a bit and then falls back into her chair, gasping. She swallows, panting lightly before she picks up her water and takes a long sip of it. She then clears her throat and glances up at Kara. "Oh, damn. Sorry. I didn't tell you I suffer pretty badly from nacrolepsy. I'm not allowed to drive a car or anything because of it. That must have been pretty scary..."

She trails off as her mind works a million miles a minute. Kara can tell that she's agitated about something, but clearly trying to play it off. She goes over the vision agai and again, trying to decode it. Finally, she glances up again.

"Hey, are there any military bases around Metropolis?" She has no idea how to bring this up with someone. "I...think something bad might happen to one. I had a...tip-off earlier and I..." She trails off, clearly struggling for an excuse.
Kara Danvers Kara lets out a sigh of relief and turns her ear away, casually reaching up to take off her comms and does so while brushing her hair back to make it look more natural. She sends the all clear tap and turns the comms off, putting them back in to her pocket. Kara rests a hand on Nia's shoulder and with wide eyes nods her head, "Oookay then."

She slips back in to her seat and says, "Narcolepsy. That must be very hard to live with. I am glad you've told me, I was about to call an ambulance." She gives a kind look to Nia and then a slightly more alarmed one when she mentions a military base. "No, not ...really. There is a naval base as part of the docks. What was the tip?"

She places her hand back on Nia's and gives it a small squeeze, "Hey are you sure you're okay? You seem a lot out of it all of a sudden. Should I be concerned, should we be getting you to a hospital or is there any medication you need?"
Nia Nal She flusters a bit at the shoulder squeeze, and she shakes her head. "I...no, but thanks. I already took my medication today." That isn't -technically- a lie, since she did take her HRT this morning...but still She tucks a locke of her own hair behind her ear and she shakes her head.

"It's...well. I heard something about someone attacking the cafeteria. I think. I saw...green fields. Might have been posters in the cafeteria, or the base might be near or under fields?"

She pauses, then, realising she mentioned seeing it, and not gitting a tip-off. She wilts a bit in her chair, just as the waiter returns and sets the food out in front of them. She picks up a fork and pokes lightly at the fried chicken laying across her waffle.
Kara Danvers Kara sympathises with the awkwardness she's feeling and.. backs off a bit. When the big breakfast is placed down in front of her, she digs in. She's quite for a bit, hoping Nia won't wilt away completely before she asks, "When you say saw.." She might not be a journalist yet, but she is a journalism student; one that somehow got an interview with the King of Wakanda. They pay attention and dig.

She takes another tact, "Military base, cafeteria, green fields." She looks back to the news clipping of Supergirl, "Something about Supergirl?" She's very curious. If it's about her she really wants to know. Then again, may be Nia is just dreaming of Supergirl - that isn't at all uncommon. There's an entire website devoted to people posting about the dreams they've had about Supergirl. Some of them are #NSFW and she goes out of her way to avoid those reading them.
Nia Nal "I'd just sound crazy," she explains. She relaxes a little with the gentle way Kara handles her, and she leans forward. She pours the syrup across her waffles and chicken before picking up her knife and fork and setting into the food. She lets out a pleased little sound. "Mmmmn, wow. You're definatly right about this place, Kara. It's so good!"

She doesn't answer the question right away, though. She furrows her brow a little and continues eating. Eventually she does glances up, and she washes some of her food down with her drink before talking.

"Yeah, Supergirl. I think. Much too cute to be Superman. Nothing against him. Just not my type." She clears her throat and glances aside. "The cafeteria and those fields. I ...think Supergirl is attached to them somehow."
Kara Danvers Kara twists her lips together side and nods her head, "I don't think you're crazy," she waggles a fork toward Nia inquisitively, "Just for completenesses sake, why do you think this?" The food is great, Kara is making her way through combination sausage, beans, tomato, hash brown, eggs on toast, a few slices of marbled steak.

"I'm glad you like the food. It's not an always kind of place. I usually don't have time to sit down and eat, but I have no classes today," which is to say there are no imminent emergencies she can hear going on.

When she says Supergirl is cute Kara's eyebrows raise a smidge and she covers her mouth with a napkin, clearing her throat. "Those Supers. They're quite something," she says, almost an eyeroll - she gets it under control.
Nia Nal She nods to that with a grin, and eats a bit more of her food. "I'm done with school, so I don't need to juggle as much as you. So this might become a once-a-week kind of place." She shrugs a shoulder and picks up her napkin to wipe her hands. She hesitates at the question before she responds.

"I have dreams. Sometimes they come true. They aren't clear, though, so it can be hard to tell exactly what the dream is saying. Plus, just because I dream it doesn't mean you can't change it." She smiles ruefully, with a 'well, now I've lost -this- friend' kind of look cast Kara's way.

"I saw what I think is Supergirl standing in front of that field the other day. then, just now I saw what I think is the cafeteria and pain...and those fields again."
Kara Danvers Kara nods her head, "I can't wait to finish my degree. I'm enjoy it very much, but I like actually doing the reporting more than learning about it. Besides, I have all these incredible mentors. My cousin in particular. Clark Kent? His dad, my dad, they're brothers. Any way.. I didn't mean to name drop like that."

Not to mention she read the entire course work for all three years of the degree in a few hours the day she got in to MetU. Kara leans forward and whispers conspiratorially, "You have premonitions? ..like a super power?" She's ready to believe. Always is.

"That's incredible. Nia you're incredible." She smiles with excitement, a gleam in her eyes that betrays her true self. She sits back and says, "We should tell Supergirl about what you saw then. Superman must know Supergirl, Jimmy knows Superman, and I know how to find Jimmy's email address in the employee directory at the Daily Planet."

Kara isn't exactly the most important cog in this chain and that's the way she likes it for now." She takes out her phone and begins to tap tap at it. "We will get you a meeting with Supergirl asap and you can tell her about your visions." Tap tap tap, not actually sending an email.. it's a bit redundant.
Nia Nal She blinks in surprise and then blushes notably when she gets that compliment from Kara. "Oh! Uh. Thanks." She clears her throat and tries to act casual about it, as she picks up her orange juice to drain it. "Yeah, like premonitions. My mom had them, and her mom before her..." She leaves out the whole 'alien' thing, though.

"You really don't know what it means to me that you believe me," she says after a quiet moment. Nia then offers a nervous laugh. "Whoa, wait. Meeting Supergirl? I...I don't know. I think I'd just be a bit of a mess if I met her."
Kara Danvers Kara shrugs and says, "Nyee.. a bit of a mess," she waggles her hand, "For a few moments may be. But you'll be fine. She's probably a really down to Earth kind of person once you get to know her, ..probably." She adjusts her glasses and chuckles with a snort, "You'll be fine really! If she's anything like Superman, she'll be super cool."

Internal monologue.. quiet Kara, this is embarrassing. She presses her lips together and clears her throat again. "Riight. Well, she probably knows to come see you so.. may be after lunch go to the top of the building? I heard Ms. Lane say that's where she meets Superman."
Nia Nal "Top of the Daily Planet? Cool." All of this is happening pretty fast, but the girl is trying to take it in stride. "I'll do that, yeah. Speaking of..."

She trails off as she checks her phone. "I think our lunch is just about over." She fishes out her wallet and pays for the meal before she grins softly. "I had fun, Kara. We should do this again soon. Maybe dinner next time. I dunno. No pressure, though."

She rises to her feet and picks up the laptop bag again, slinging it over her shoulder. "I won't be offended if you son't want to. To be clear. Now...to try and meet Supergirl. Wish me luck." Nia laughs and shakes her head, before she turns to leave after giving Kara a chance to say goodbye.
Kara Danvers Kara wipes down her mouth and stands up. Somehow she finds just the smallest bit of wood at an odd angle and trip stumbles forward. She plants hands on the wall and laughs again, "Ugh. Don't mind me. I have two left feet." She looks to Nia and wrinkles her nose, "I had fun too. We should."

She raises an eyebrow and says, "And good luck with Supergirl. Try not to fall asleep on her too," she says with another playful chuckle. Kara waits until she's gone and then makes her way out in to the alley way. "A green field and a military base with a cafeteria. Right, time to act surprised I guess."
