Hank Pym Recap: A test of Vernon van Dynes communications system leads to disaster when the Pym-Tech crew find themselves stranded on a strange planet. Joined by Scott Lang they discover an exotic city under fire from a huge floating raygun! Ants are there too.
Nadia Pym-van Dyne Nadia comes up short at the crest of the hill watching the giant raygun and the city exchanging fire back and forth in a seeming stalemate. "Okay, that's a little weird... that is weird right right? Also cool, but weird. Should we do something about that?"

She tilts her head to one side as she continues watching the gun, "I wonder how it is generating those energy pulses." Missiles she understands quite well, but alien rayguns are still a topic of curiousity and the SCIENCE! behind things is never far from her mind.
Vivian Vision "Is it reasonable to assume at least one of these groups are behind our being here?" Vivian muses as she slows her flight speed and zooms in her optics to better observe the situation. "Presumably the city as they would have a more clear motivation... The question is do they deserve our help. Perhaps they are in the wrong and began a war..? Although firing on a populated city doesn't imply noble motivations either."

There's a pause and then she flies up a bit. Hoping for a better angle to view the situation from with her 80x magnification eyes.

"What I don't understand yet is why an entire city could not simply leave? Are they surrounded by more military forces or just a singular emplacement?" She gives Nadia's comments about how the raygun works a shrug. "I guess we could go over and ask? That may result in conflict though if they are hostile."
Hank Pym Hank Pym says over the comm, "Careful contemplation is well and good. I say the blasts from that gun are approaching the city, making it the aggressor and we know the city has people in it, so let's try to defuse the situation. I'll grab the dang thing, you two disable it." He's growing as he speaks, past his sweet spot, 50- 100- 200 feet tall. His strides enable him to move nearly as fast as the fliers.

The gun seems to be quite happy to blast a furrow at the city, now approaching its walls. As psychological warfare it has its charms. The city folk on the walls are firing in a haphazard fashion, taken by surprise. The people... are people, seeming human. Unless they are meat puppets manipulated by a multi-tentacled alien? Nah.
Nadia Pym-van Dyne In the end, Nadia shrugs. There is something to disabling both sides in order to ask questions rather than letting violence continue unabated, though she does share Vivian's concerns of if the situation is not so cut and dry as it seems.

Omelets and eggs though, "On it!" She calls out and in the blink of an eye Nadia practically disappears as she reduces herself to insect size and zips off towards the giant gun. She has yet to encounter a problem involving war machines that couldn't neutralized through flying inside of it and the liberal application of the sticky bombs that she carries, which is exactly what she does here, lacing the gun's interior with high explosives on a short timer, before continuing out the other side.
Vivian Vision When Hank declares they're on the attack Vivian nods. "I suppose preventing anyone from getting hurt in the immediate future will at least give us time to understand the situation better," she muses. "I will attempt to disable anyone operating the weapon.

She wraps herself up in a camoflage hologram and accelerates to her top flight speed. All the while on the lookout for potential threats.

If there does happen to be anyone acting as a ground crew she'll observe to see if she could possibly communicate. And then if that doesn't work resort to scare tactics to encourage them to flee from the weapon. Holographic monsters, a little mystery laser scorching and some spooky noises to start things off. It's for their own good though. After all if Great Aunt Nadia fills it up with bombs there is the potential for collateral damage!
Hank Pym Hank Pym manages to grab the gun. He digs in his heels and leaves two wide furrows in the soil, slowing the gun but not stopping it. He bites his lip because his daughter heard him curse enough for one day and tries harder. The gun meanwhile slows its firing as if its power systems are shunting energy to it's engines to overcome a few hundred pounds of dead weight suddenly attached. The pulses come slower even as the blasts reach the base of the city's walls and disintegrate a section. the pulses now come about five seconds apart.

Vivian flying towards the city ramparts encounters cries of alarm from the defenders as well as energy beams directed at her. Well more through her.

"Vier dat! Vier dat voryegger! Shette dat voryegger! Hoord olm!" Some fire is also directed at Hank, "Glustic Urth grusnach!!" Hank's size prevents the bolts from doing much more tan stinging.

"OW! QUIT IT!!! CUT IT OUT!! IT'S NOT MY FLIPPING GUN!!!"
Nadia Pym-van Dyne Having zipped clear of the gun after planting explosive sticky bombs on its key structural points that should be resizing and detonating any moment now, Nadia simply gets to a safe distance to watch and wait.
Vivian Vision "We come in peace?" Vivian broadcasts. She's wrapped up in a holographic stealth field. So the fact that she's receiving weapons fire either means they're shooting at Hank and she just happens to be in the way or they can still somehow see her. "Take me to your leader!"

A portion of her mind begins comparing the language spoken by the people on the walls against everything else in her databases. Perhaps something will line up with another language or at least shares a basic linguistic structure.

Just to be on the safe side she repeats her message in every language she knows. As well as with a series of morse code tones and in a binary sequence projected in the air.
Scott Lang "For the record if we die, this is Hank's fault," Scott declares as he touches down to a landing and dismounts the ant with a wary look about. No firepower seemed to be directed in his immediate area but just in case he shrinks a bit smaller. "And look I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade but isn't there like, Prime Directive type stuff? Maybe the giant floating gun is part of their culture? Anyone think of that? I mean I like running into a mess as much as the next guy but..." Scott pausing to cringe as an explosive blast sets off a bit closer than the others, shrinking himself another foot or so. "I'm just saying you know?"
Hank Pym Hank Pym lets go of the gun as the explosive charges go off. One in particular blows a seemingly purposeless sight off the barrel. The sight trails wires and the gun stops firing. Hank places the weapon on the ground. From the walls of the city cheers and screams of joy can be heard... going by human standards anyway. "Mammoo! Mammoo! Ael! Ael!" Hank sits down tiredly but stays large. "WHERE THE HELL IS VIV? VIV? HEY WE GOT A WELCOME WAGON..."

A small flyer has lifted above the city and approaches. It comes in slowly for a landing, legs extending. A tall bald man in a white jacket wearing wrap around green glasses emerges accompanied by a girl about Nadia's age with dark hair and fine features. The man lifts a metallic headband in his hands.

"Ba fao Sardath cho, leps Rannagar <he gestures at the city> leps Rann <his arms sweep to take in the surroundng lands>" He continues speaking repeating illiloctiban, Aldrann and sassu several times, then demonstrates placing the band on the girl's head. The girl for her part smiles shyly and says, "Shem talsa? Mammoon Shette thot ba?
Nadia Pym-van Dyne Nadia takes a moment to watch the fireworks, that part never gets old. Explosives and demolitions may have been part of super serious assassin lessons, but to a teenager big booms are still really cool. At least she uses them responsibly ...most of the time.

With the gun destroyed, Nadia descends to Earth to meetthe incoming small flying vessel and returns to her normal size. Her expression turns to one of deep thought as she listens to them, the girl speaks seven languages but is not really able to make any sense of what they are saying. "Different planet, different language, this makes sense but we don't exactly have a universal translator ...do we? Mr. Lang did you actually steal anything useful from the house like a translator?"
Hank Pym The girl removes the headband and holds it out to Nadia. She indicates herself and says meaningfully, "Alanna leps Sardath. Illiloctibani!" She waves the headband. and indicates Nadia should try it on. "Duss qu Aldrann illiloc! Fao ael!!"
Vivian Vision Vivian Vision checks to ensure she's broadcasting a location marker to Scott, Hank and Nadia's suits. They should see an icon on any HUD they might have indicating where she's currently flying. Or they can probably just look up and see the large holographic letters above the city walls with written attempts at communication!

She's not quite at the stage of playing musical tones in case they respond. But it's probably not far off.

<Do you wish me to return to provide protection in case they turn hostile? I am not having much luck communicating up here.> SHe says onto the group communications channel. Which thankfully is still working as Viv is functionally a high powered communications hub.
Scott Lang "Not unless you keep your translator in the pantry. And it's not stealing, I literally brought it to help the people it belongs to!" Scott counters, restoring himself to his own normal scale but keeping his distance. He had watched enough horror sci-fi in his life not to trust things as they seemed, his head on a swivel even as the others seemed to be perfectly comfortable interacting with the aliens. Maybe it was the fact the last alien HE'D run into had tried to telekinetically capture him for her own nefarious ends.

"Guys, we need to figure a way home here. I don't need a translator to figure out putting that thing on is a bad idea. We don't know what it means. You're gonna start some intergalactic Game of Thrones here," Scott for once the pleading voice of paranoid reason. Which in Nadia's case probably only made her want to wear it even more.
Nadia Pym-van Dyne Nadia gives Scott a teenaged roll of her eyes, foreshadowing to what he can expect from Cassie in another ten years. "There's only one way to find out. Besides, they seem nice!" This is the side of her that Natasha Romanoff finds completely baffling, despite everything she went through growing up in a world made of lies, she is still willing to try and see good in everyone.

"Thank you, my name is Nadia. Though I guess you probably understand me about as well as I understand you right now, but maybe this will help!" She gives the other girl a bright smile as she accepts the headband and puts it on.
Vivian Vision With nothing she's doing actually making any headway Vivian floats back down to the rest of the group. Still remaining hidden for now. No reason to give herself away if they /are/ going to turn out hostile. It's not just Scott who can be suspicious!

<I will follow closely behind in case there is an attempt to capture or attack> She informs via the communications channel. Giving no overt sign she's there and staying out of phase.
Scott Lang "Have you watched literally no horror movies in your life? Hank, I'm borrowing your daughter when we get back to Earth, I'm binging her on the classics. Killer Klowns from Outer Space is going to lead the charge," Scott declares, as he moves closer to the grouping even as Nadia mocks his judgment of the situation. There's a disapproving sound deep in the back of his throat as he looks at her even as the older man with wraparound shades holds out a very similar band towards him.

He doesn't bother trying to hide his speech, clearly the aliens understood them as well as they understood the aliens. "VV be sure you're recording all of this. Maybe label the file 'I told you so' if you can for later," Scott grumps as he glares daggers at Nadia even as he takes the band and sets it on his own head.
Hank Pym Hank Pym does likewise, shrinking to his normal size. He slips the headband on. The bald man smiles and says, "Welcome Urth visitors. I am Dr. Sardath and this is my daughter, Alanna. this is our city of Rannagar. I wish to thank you for saving us from the huge gun. It was doubtless sent by invaders to awe and frighten us to surrender to Sorkhan Yuh. Please enter and be fed and allowed to rest and freshen up from your ordeals... what are those...?" He indicates the ants who are following their masters.

Hank tries to translate the language as it is spoken to Vivian to help her build up a basic vocabulary. There seems to only be three such bands. But the language seems pretty simple and straight forward. People are coming out to greet the humans as Dr. Sardath speaks but they keep a polite distance.

" Ibelieve I know what happened. Space radiation turned our comm beam into a Zeta Beam! A teleportation device."
Nadia Pym-van Dyne "Oh neat!" Nadia exclaims after putting the circlet on her head. "So this is a universal translator? Or just an anything else to Rann translator? How does it work? Is it telepathic? Does it use electromagnetic waves or Psion particles?" Nadia realizes she is babbling a bit and stops herself. "It seemed like you were in trouble, we just wanted to stop the violence and were glad to help!" She pauses for a moment, "Who is Sorkhan Yuh?" She asks curiously.

When Dr. Sardath inquires about the ants, she smiles at him. "Oh those are ants, they're really cool. I'm guessing you don't have them here? Oh, we're also kind of lost, do you know how we can get back to Earth..Urth? Food sounds great though!"
Vivian Vision The invisible Vivian frowns at a flash of imagery when Nadia begins talking to the strange alien girl. A momentary sensation of being observed. And her senses shift into high gear to locate the source. Another portion of her mind processing the language data Hank is sending her for translation. And once she has enough she'll run the recordings from the city walls through it to try comprehend what they were saying.

<Something strange happened when Nadia put that on.> She informs. <And Mister Lang I record /everything/ I see.> She switches to a direct message to Scott only, sighs, and then adds <And telling Great Aunt Nadia you told her so doesn't help.>

Each time someone puts a band on there is another flash of oddness. Tubes with silhouettes in. <Something about those bands specifically is... off. I am getting images each time you put one on.. It's not really clear what though. Perhaps a lab of some sort?>
Scott Lang Scott seems to wince as the language translators get to work. They didn't feel off to him at all, but the fact they were working also meant they were doing something to his brain, and the more he tried not to think about it, the more he did just that. "Invaders? From space? And with space radiation? Nadia please..." Scott pleads, still with a strong sense of paranoia. Or maybe he just didn't want to admit putting the bands on hadn't instantly doomed them. Heedless of the rules of decorum he tries Hank instead. "Hank c'mon, you agree we gotta get out of here right? Hank? ...you just want to see his lab don't you?" Scott's worry dropping to a dull tone of defeat as he realizes he's outnumbered here. There's a long, loud sigh from the engineer who tilts his head back to stare at the sky for a moment and then throws his hands up in the air as he starts marching forward. "FINE. Lets go get eaten then," he announces, no doubt drawing stares from the aliens.
Hank Pym The people have moved out into the plains as they greet the Urth... Earth visitors. there is a beginning of a discussion of the principles of the translator, using electro psionic waves, similar to insect com in fact. Then as Hank, Nadia and Sardath begin discussing the 'Zeta Beam' screams are heard from the edge of the group. Off in the distance a horde of savage riders on mechanical horses appear and proceed to gallop at the throng...

To be continued...
