Claire Temple Peggy came late into bed, while Daniel was already slightly snoozing, so she didn't bother waking him too much. But a few hours later, she's been mostly tossing and turning, so she disappeared out into the halls of the Playground again. Now well past three, the century old woman is quietly tip toeing back into her quarters like a sneaky teenager coming in after curfew. She doesn't want to wake him, but it's been a long time since she shared a bed with someone for the simple act of sleeping. She's not quite as good as she was at slipping into covers going unnoticed.

She slips out of her black satin robe (the one with the flamingos) and her little satin flat slippers, before staring to crawl up into the bed with him again. Something pauses her, taking a moment to just stop and look at him, a faint smile on her face.
Daniel Sousa Daniel may have tossed and turned a good deal when he had been sleeping on Abcde's couch, the stress of being in this strange future weighing heavy on his mind, but since reuniting with Peggy he sleeps soundly most nights, lulled by her presence and the sound of her breath. When she slips from the bed, his eyes slip open a little, registering her departure before closing again murmuring something unintelligible before he rolled over and went back to sleep. That's the same position Peggy finds him in when she returns, sleeping soundly hugging one of the pillows to his chest. Though the feel of Peggy joining him on the bed has his eyes open again, and he rolls onto his back, pillow left behind. "Getting into trouble?" he asks her with a sleepy smile as he looks up at her.
Claire Temple While she feels a touch guilty that she clearly roused him, that sleepy smile on his face within the shadows of her small room? It's worth it. Peggy smiles back to him, wider than even when she was just watching. She shifts her toned legs down beneath the covers, to stretch out pressed against him even as she rolls onto her side enough she can easily look him in the eyes. Her skin is chilly from having walked the cool hallways and her toes a bit icy, but the covers will change that soon.

"Mm...Hullo, my darling. I did not mean to wake you. And no trouble at all...Just some of Howard's scotch. Couldn't sleep. Thought it might help." That explains the scotch and tea scent on her breath.
Daniel Sousa Daniel doesn't seem to mind being woken at all, at least not by his wife. Those cold toes against his good leg though? He flinches a little before he moves his leg to press against her feet, cold or no cold. "You need thicker slippers," he remarks lightly reaching up to brush a bit of hair from her face still smiling a ther, his eyes on hers in the near darkness.

"And trust me I don't mind being woken by you," he says before his smile turns wry. "Well if you're mixing the scotch with your usual tea," he smiles before leaning up to steal a brief kiss getting the fullness of the taste of both scotch and tea. "When it comes to helping you sleep, pretty sure they cancel each other out," he teases.
Claire Temple While Peggy certainly hasn't noticed the difference over the years, her feet and hands were never this cold when he laid with her back in the 50s. It's a subtle difference, much like that quiet, mostly hidden scar along the left side of her face, but it's been a consistent one. It's like her circulation is as tired as her body should be at this age. But his leg and body pressing up against her helps, smile growing a bit wider at the tease, "I have plenty thick slippers, this place just has dungeon concrete floors. We should have put carpet down." She teases lightly. There are so many good reasons not to have a carpet in SSR offices.

The kiss earns itself a second one, her nose tucking in against his cheek as she shifts over to steal some space on his pillow instead of her own. It's a position they could end up going back to sleep in, but she's content for some drowsy, light teasing conversation. "Psh. After this long drinking that tea, I'd have to inject the leaves straight to my blood stream for it to keep me up."
Daniel Sousa "Uh-huh," Daniel says reaching for one of her hands. "Need some suitably thick gloves too," he says, taking that hand between both of his rubbing them back and forth to warm it some "You might want to talk to sciences, when they pulled you out of that freezer they forgot to thaw your hands and your feet."

There's a laugh for the idea of having put carpet in the base. "Could you imagine the state of it by now?" he asks, "To say nothing of all the weird and messy crap that got dragged down those halls in just the time I was around," he says. "I suppose cold feet is a worthwhile sacrifice."

The second kiss is met with the same pleasant sentiment as the first and he throws in a third before they snuggle in together on his side of the bed.

"I dunno, I mean sure a hundred years is a ^long time to be drinking that tea but that stuff is pretty high test, I think Howard kept a supply on hand in case he needed it to fuel his planes."
Claire Temple Another husky laugh escapes her lips against the edge of his jaw and she gently brushes her nose along the faint stubble there from the day. While he never lets himself really wear any sort of scruff and she knows it will be gone in the morning, she's enjoying it tonight. "It's no worse than the drain cleaner you call coffee, darling. Besides, it's tradition at this point. And *everything* is better than that roasted barley ratio coffee they gave us during the war." She certainly drank it, because it was warm, but it was something she was happy to give up.

"I'm...sorry I wasn't quite in bed on time. The meeting ran late and I couldn't dare disturb you. Even if I am tempted to make certain you are awake and alive, not just some... horrible prank or trick, every time I see you here." She admits softly.
Daniel Sousa Knowing Daniel he'd probably shave that bit of five o'clock shadow off before bed if Peggy didn't seem to enjoy it so much, as it is he leans into her touch, cold fingers or not. "Coffee is great," he says before smiling at the memory of the coffee they gave them during the war. "It wasn't that bad, if you closed your eyes, it's almost like drinking a really warm stout," he says with a grin. "Though however questionable, still would have crawled three miles over broken glass for a cup of it in Russia." Naturally that was one of the first thing the battalion ran out of. Not vital, but definitely wanted by every GI in danger of becoming a popsicle.

Daniel's eyes go to Peggy's for a moment before he touches her face again, letting her know he's really there. "You can make sure anytime you want Peg," he says before kissing her again. "But I'm really here," he promises before he lays back down on the pillow and glances over at the illuminated clock at the bedside. "Must have been some meeting though."
Claire Temple When his hand brushes along her cheek, Peggy just turns her head to gently lean into it, the reassuring, firm warmth of his fingertips with those faint gun-range callouses she knows so well. She turns enough she can press a kiss into the base of his hand before sinking a bit deeper into the pillow again. "I know you are. And god... I love you." She confesses softly. Sometimes she just needs to reiterate it. Who knows how much longer she'll have to say it.

Then he's bringing up the meeting and she sighs quietly, "It...didn't go this long. I came to bed once, then gave up and went back out, but... It was. May accepted command of STRIKE... and they offered me Chief of... here. The Playground, the...headquarters of SHIELD now. It's not Director again, but... over seeing all operations, managing what's the heart of SHIELD. I... I said yes. Maybe I should have talked to you first? I don't know. Maybe... Hell, I don't entirely understand why they'd offer it to me, when I'm the one who let all this shit grow in our back yard, but..."
Daniel Sousa Peggy's words pull at Daniel's heart and it shows in how he looks at her, meeting her eyes with his again to letting her see how much her feelings are returned. "Love you too Peg. Always will." No matter what happens.

The news about the promotion has Daniel's head rising from the pillow, he rests it on his hand to keep looking at her. "Didn't need to talk to me about it," he assures her, "And I would have said I thought you should take it," he says smiling as she describes the position. "There's nobody better to take care of SHIELD's heart than you, you built SHIELD it's a part of you and if there's anyone that can help it find itself again, it's you Peg. No question."

"As for the rest, you weren't alone Peg, I all but missed it, so did Lily, Howard, Phillips and I assume everyone who came afterwards, it's not all on you."
Claire Temple As he says that he'd have told her to take it, he can feel a hint of tension leaving her body, likely tension she didn't even realize she was holding. Peggy breathes out quietly, that a relief, though she gives him a lingering, quiet smile. "Still...should have spoken to you. Your my husband. We... do these things together." As long as he's here, at least. She stretches her slightly chilly hand over his stomach and wraps it around his side, tucking fingertips beneath his pajama shirt against bare skin. But being under the covers with him is already warming up the bits of her that normally are like ice.

"And you are right. I...know it wasn't just on me. And Fury knows what he's doing. Everyone seemed to support the decision so... here we are. In charge again. It feels... good? Like...coming home? But also overwhelming. If I muck it up this time, there's no going back."
Daniel Sousa Daniel returns that smile, "Probably but we're just getting back into things, we're bound to fall back on old habits," he says, letting her fully off the hook. Chill or not Daniel welcomes that touch against his side, placing his hand ontop of hers through the pyjama shirt.

There's a nod from Daniel, "Was going to say, it made things feel more familiar with you back in charge again," the way he says it suggests there's an unspoken 'as it should be' in there.

The rest gets a sympathetic look from Daniel. "We couldn't take things back in the 50's either, same deal, different century. You got this, Peg, we both know it, and you've got good people here too. May, Daisy, Steve all the other people you worked with to bring down HYDRA inside SHIELD," he leans in to kiss her again, brief and softly. "Just like back in our day, you might be the boss, but you're not going to be doing this alone."
Claire Temple The kiss and those words are enough to completely relax her. The touch of breath she's been holding since the meeting just lets go and she seems to melt into him another inch, at least. Peg turns her head on his pillow, still so close they are nose to nose and it's almost uncomfortable to look each other in the eye, but she's managing. "...How in the hell do you always know *exactly* what to say? I should have talked to you first... even if it meant waking you up. We'd both have been back asleep hours ago instead of my wandering these hallways, worrying I'd made the wrong decision."
Daniel Sousa Daniel shifts just a little as Peggy turns her head, bringing her more fully into focus for him, even as he smiles at her, chuckling. "Honestly, I have no clue, I just say what I'm thinking and it happens to be the right thing more often than not," he says, clearly pleased by the effect of his words even if he's downplaying any real art to it. "Like we were saying the other night, we fit, guessing this is part of that."

"And you definitely should've woke me up to talk to me Peg, especially if you were worried, it's alright, missing sleep to be there for you is part of what I signed up for when I put this ring on," he says holding up his left hand, for once not shying away from looking at the telltale ring.
Claire Temple "Mm. I suppose, but you looked so... sweet, just sleeping there. And actually relaxed, for once. Why would I disturb that with heavy news? Besides, we're talking about it now, not too many hours later." Peggy asks with an almost tease behind her voice, but the words are honest. She had debated on waking him up and decided against it for any number of reasons. Then her eyes flicker up to that ring, and she's smiling too. She doesn't even focus on that little defect in the band now. It was his wedding ring. It was beautiful, no matter what.

"...It feels good to wear this again, you know? I'm... sorry I ever really stopped." She mutters, as she pulls her own hand out to match his, staring at both of their rings quietly for a few heartbeats.
Daniel Sousa Daniel chuckles about looking sweet. "Still not a good reason, but fiiine," he says with a grin. "And we are talking about it now. So as far as I'm concerned this all worked out fine."

Daniel smiles looking at Peggy's ring next to his own, seeing them both lessened the impact of the little defect even further than before, remembering instead the memories of their life together, both in this century and the one before it.

After those couple of heartbeat he looks from the rings to her eyes. "Peggy, you don't have to be sorry, I was dead sixty five years, it wasn't like I expected you to mourn me forever," he says. "You had a life to live. Besides," he leans over and places a soft kiss on her lips. "Like you said, you never stopped loving me, that's memorial enough."
Peggy Carter The kiss is returned again, softly, it's too late and she's too bone deep tired for a proper seduction tonight, but she appreciates the kisses. "Not one day. I love you as much now as the day we broke your chair." She mutters into his mouth, grinning as she says it, then leans up for another kiss.

"But, now...talk done, brain quieted, I'm... beat. Maybe we can both sleep? At least six hours would be... nice." The tone of her voice is already slightly fading. It was adrenaline and nerves alone keeping her awake before and now that he's soothed both of those, it's hard to fight the warm, soporific comfort of his presence. Her arm relaxes a bit more across his stomach, nose tucking into her neck as she sinks into a position more prone for sleep than kissing.
Daniel Sousa There's no argument from Daniel as the tender kisses turn to getting comfortable next to one another for a bit more sleep, he returns that final kiss and settles in beside her his own arm draped across her. "Six hours would be nice," he says his voice slightly more awake but only just. "We should talk in the morning though, about the new job and if it lets you hire new agents," he says quietly, after all he needed something to do with himself however long he was going to be here. "But for now, sleep," he says as lets his eyes close.
