Otto Octavius Ever since Otto struck out on his own, he's been checking out potential materials and research. He has his main lab built, and a few safehouse and secondary labs by this point as he works out how to get his project started. It's something he's wanted to do for a while, but could never get Oscorp to sign off on it because it wasn't a sure thing.

Today marks another round of testing things others have overlooked. Today's test subject? A meteorite everyone overlooked. Something about it had Otto going with his gut that it might be an oddity, and so in the middle of the night one day, he had infiltrated the museum it was stored at and stolen it. No one knew it was gone yet, and he wanted to keep it that way.

This morning, Otto has already sealed the rock inside a blast chamber, having a variety of tests run on it. There is a window in front, just enough to look inside.

Outside, Otto works on desktop computer, analyzing the results so far...
Essix The meteorite, for the most part, was like any other save for two small things that were reported and for reasons unknown, ignored. The first was that when it first hit the earth, it gave of some strange energy reading but has since not once repeated that, and the second, more obvious thing, it was a great deal lighter than it should be. Most meteorites of this size, baseball sized, had a standard weight, this one was a great deal lighter.

For the one inside the meteorite, technically a transportation pod, the experiments and tests that had been done were exceedingly boring, and rarely offered any results, which is why the thing ended up on a shelf in a museum in the first place. Through it all the entity had listened to the voices outside, listened to the radio in one scientist's office, and learned a little about what was out there.

Although there was no way for her, as the entity was considered a female consciousness, had no way of knowing who was who. There was the storage space and now, now there were more tests and a male voice and now... more tests. X-rays showed the meteorite as solid through and through, standard test all came back that this little space rock was nothing more than a space rock, just lighter.
Otto Octavius A frown comes to Otto's face, partially obscured by the goggles, and he turns to the blast chamber over his shoulder. Then, one tentacle comes out of his overcoat, lunges for the door, and opens it with a practiced ease. That same tentacles grabs the rock, carrying it over a dozen feet away from him, and another tentacle comes out to start prodding the meteorite directly, testing for audible signs of hollowness.

He'd need to get a sample to test it's molecular structure, which means finding a good weak point to take it from.
Essix For such a little rock, it seems pretty damn solid. All the tapping and poking offers nothing in the way of a weak spot, at least an obvious one. Every angle sounded and felt the same

'This one is more persistent,' the entity was thinking. Unable to see outside the pod, she had to rely on what she was hearing and at the moment what she was hearing was tap, tap, tap, tap.... which was very annoying, so very, very much so. What was also getting annoying was just hearing things. Whatever was out there sounded more interesting then inside, but still... what if out there was dangerous?
Otto Octavius No place where it's less dense? Unfortunate. Still, he had drills designed to be able to get through most matter on Earth.

One tentacle is idled in the air for now, while the one holding the rock is placed on a table. The grip on it is released, and Otto lunges the tentacle over to grab one of the portable dense matter drills. Placing it above the meteorite, he exchanges out the bit for a matter sampler bit, and a flick of a pincer turns it on.

A second later, it revs up, and soon a diamond tipped drill is going downward towards the rock...
Essix Aaand the rock rolls away toward the edge of the table. She had no idea /what/ that sound was, but it was not a good sound and there was no way she was sticking around to find out what it was.
Otto Octavius He watches. Waits. Motor function without prompting from Otto. It doesn't take a world-class genius to see the implication.

Something self-aware is in that rock, or at least directing it. The drill is taken and replaced just above the rock again, this time without moving towards it. It simply stays in place.

A fluke, or will it happen again?
Essix The sound was close again, but not as close, it was pausing above the pod, waiting. Why was he waiting? Was he bored of the work now? That happened with the one lady scientist, she just got bored of repeating the same thing over and over with no changes. Of course moving the pod might have gotten his attention, but the other's hadn't seemed to notice or care. One even said it must have been set on a slanted surface or something. If she held still not, maybe this one would get bored.,
Otto Octavius So, not the sound... but the proximity.

The drill one again goes downward, the drill bit getting closer...
Essix Getting closer again, whatever that sound is, getting closer. Burst of energy to try and roll the meteorite off the edge table. Do not like that sound, maybe if she can get the rock on the floor...
Otto Octavius It's clearly trying to hide. That can be dealt with.

Otto raises his voice, "If you can understand me, come out." The drill continues to go down...
Essix The momentum of the roll off the table and onto the floor allows the meteorite to move a short distance away, but that sound just keeps coming and then she hears the male voice actually talking to her. That was a first. Everyone else just went through the motions, explained it away as this or that thing, this one though... he seems to realize there's something, her, in there.

This was the moment. She had been content to remain in the pod and just listen to the this world, and really should could have stayed there a few more years and been just fine, but the offer was there. Was she ready?

The rock stops rolling in a normal manner, just like a ball would when the momentum ended and the energy was spent. She could make it roll more, further away, faster, and that damn sound was still there... but the offer.

The meteorite cracks open like an egg, but the lines on the two sides are perfectly smooth, clearly a creation and not something in nature. From inside a pale blue viscus liquid, no more than a cup full, oozes out and onto the floor. There are no eyes, no ears, no lips, just a puddle of liquid that seems to hold itself together.
Otto Octavius Otto studies the... whatever-it-is. There are some very odd beings out there. Sentient liquid? That's probably a 5/10 on the 'what is that?' scale.

Still, Otto brings his tentacles up into a defensive formation around himself as it oozes out, "Can you speak?"
Essix What an odd, odd, really odd... that being was not at all what she had expected. She could see him, with all his tentacles, and now put a face to the voice she heard, but that was not at all what she thought he would look like. Well really, she had no idea what he would look like.

The liquid moves a little away from the pod now, not toward him, more to the side as she looks at him from a different angle. Her moment is like water rolling really, and the moment she is no longer touching the pod, it closes and once again looks like a meteorite.

Speaking. Could she? She learned all the words from these beings through the long hours of listening to them, to listening to odd things in the background that they called television and the pretty sounding things they called music.

Rolling toward the table now, she forms a tentacle to move up and onto the table, the action actually making her a little bigger, more the size of a basketball now. Once on the table, it is easier to study his face and watch how he blinks his eyes and how his lips move. Forming up into a perfect sphere, then into a square, then into a triangle, she starts to get a feel for what she can do... but speaking? No, not yet.
Otto Octavius One tentacle lunges for one of his spare laptops in the crates, grabs it gently, and brings it over into his real hands as Otto watches Essix. Then, he starts typing into it and moving the cursor. A few clicks later, and that tentacle brings the laptop over to the table and he hits 'play'.

It's an efficient 'learn english in a short time' program, with videos.

"That'll give you the basics." Otto tells... it?
Essix As the tentacle comes closer the liquid moves away slightly, until it seems to realize that this being isn't reaching for her, it's giving her something to look at. When he hits play and the sound starts, a ripple effect goes through the liquid. New words! This was wonderful! All those words, some she knew, some she didn't, but to speak them was another matter entirely. The videos however also show her how the words /appear/, not just how they sound. That each word is comprised of different letters, and those letters form the word and it was GLORIOUS!

The ripples get larger, almost a vibration throughout the liquid as the video contiues.
Otto Octavius The recording for this will be interesting to play back, at least. For now, Otto simply watches, that tentacle retracting back into the formation.

On screen, two minutes in, a female appears on the screen, speaking words. She's blonde and pretty, with blue eyes.
Essix The vibrations stop when the woman appears and one tentacle extends out to touch the screen. So that was the female version of these beings, that's what they looked and sounded like at the same time. That felt more real to her, that was what she was... one of those... well, female anyway.

Moving back again, the basketball sized ball grows a little larger, sort of wrapping around the laptop as she listened, then back into a ball, then... it extends and changes, slowly growing larger in height, weight, mass... until there is a smaller version of that female on the table. The details are lacking, in fact the person looks like they were carved out of clay and were missing some parts, but there are eyes that turn to look right at the man.
Otto Octavius "Capable of learning and has self-awareness..." Otto mutters a bit to himself. Then, he starts to walk around the table, slowly, taking in her form as he goes, "Take your time. I'm not in any rush."
Essix He's watching her, she's watching him, but she's not verbalizing her observations like he is. The head tilts slightly when he speaks, watching the way his lips move. The video is still running, and she hears it, but he's more interesting now.

"Self awareness," she repeats, but the sound isn't quite right, there's a gurgle to it which mentally makes her angry. There was something she was missing.

As he moves around the table, she starts turning so she can watch him, the movements of his body, the way the muscles beneath the skin allow that movement. She doesn't know what those things are, but she can see how the body works from it.

"Capable of learning," she then says, this time the voice very close to a real voice. It's not a mimic or copy of the woman speaking, it is completely different. "Of course."
Otto Octavius "I don't know of anyone on Earth that has the technoology to create sentient liquids. Extraplanetary?" Otto half asks, half comments.
Essix She continues to turn with him as he moves, and the clay face smile.

"I am not technology," she says, honing in more on /her/ voice. "Are you asking where I come from? I cannot... can't," she checks contractions and likes. "I can't tell you, I don't know. I'm not from this planet though, I can tell you that much."
Otto Octavius Facsmile of a human. Mimicry based lifeforms? He would need to do an in-depth study of the molecular structure later. For now, testing it's cognitive abilities seems like a good idea.

"Do you know what you are?" Otto asks as he stops.
Essix Once he stops, she finds that this sort of crouched, kneeling position isn't exactly comfortable, so she sits down on her butt... she has a butt, and that sensation is a new one she has to think about for a moment.

"There is no name for what I am," she explains once she finishes analyzing the sensation. "We do not call ourselves by anything... vocal. Do you know what you are? Male with... attachments, that is all I know."
Otto Octavius "I'm a human base species male who has been transformed into a metahuman with some changes that make my nervous system capable of technpathic linking to my tentacle harness." Ootto explains, in detail. "Does your species name have letters?"
Essix "Human," she repeats, before hanging her legs over the edge of the table. She's no where near ready to try using those legs, and the more she looks at him, the more little adjustments she makes to the shape she's taken. Hair looks better, hands look more like hands, little things.

"No, no letters, no voices, no... way to explain it really. We are one and individual at the same time, we communicate with each other through connection, through touch. That is all I know, I have never seen my own people."
Otto Octavius There's a visible frown of thought from Otto as he slowly rounds the table Essix is on. One of his tentacles comes up and gently takes off his goggles, revealing his brown eyes for the first time as Otto studies her, his goggles held idly next to his head.

"Do you know the nature of the connection?" Otto asks.
Essix As he continues to walk around the table, she continues to follow him with his eyes, fascinated by him and the way he moves. When the tentacle removes his goggle though, her eyes seems to light up and she watches very closely how it moves and what it does, and then she stares at the goggle just held there rather than his face.

"The nature of the connection," she repeats softly, also still listening to the video running on the laptop. "When you touch, you feel, yes? You feel warm or cold, soft or hard. How does this sense of 'feel' become understood too you? How do you know what is soft or what is cold?"
Otto Octavius "Texture, mass and elasticity." Otto replies immediately. "For us, it's an instinctual judgment. It sounds like it's different for you. I could run some tests and see if have a nervous system at all, if you'd like."
Essix Sliding off the table onto the legs she created, she wobbles a little while laughing with childish glee. They worked, not the greatest and yet they worked.

"No, no, no," she giggles then looks back to his face, his brown eyes. "You touch," she runs her hand over the top of the table. "There is... sensation, from the fingers through your body to..." she taps her head. "Yes? This is the connection, shared through us all."

Since she's on her legs now, she tries a few steps, much like a toddler taking their first steps but balance comes after a few dangerous moments that it looks like she will fall. "Such an interesting way to move," she comments, getting a little taller now, becoming closer to a normal sized human. "Nervous system, what is that?"
Otto Octavius This is a new life form with it's own rules. Pretending this... machine? Hivemind? Is human would be foolish.

Time for a different approach.

One of the free tentacles suddenly lunges to the right, with Otto glancing over to it, and it takes up a large device with an electrical probe. He brings it up to Essix's.... eyes? Sensors? And shows it. "This is an electrical meter. The long thin tube is a probe for measuring. May I check if you use electromagnetic properties to communicate?"
Essix The sudden movement of that tentacle causes her to jump and turn fully toward him, almost in a stance of fight or flight, but it's awkward in the appearance of it. As the thing tube comes closer she steps back a little, studying it.

"You can check," she replies. "Does it make noise? I've heard many noises, some I don't like at all." She eyes the drill as indication that it's one she didn't like.
Otto Octavius "This tool is silent. If you can feel electrical current, you may have a tingling sensation as it measures, but that's about it." Otto informs her, his real hands programming the device itself, before another tentacle comes up, grabs the probe with fine manipulators inside the head of the tentacle (The pincers themselves folding back), and slowly sticks it at Essix in the 'arm'.
Essix As the probe is stuck in her 'arm', there is a moment of resistance like one might expect from skin, then it just splorks right into the arm. She stares at it in her arm, keeping it solid enough to hold the probe so he can get whatever it is he's after from it.

There is a current to her, much like the electrical impulses that shoot through the nervous system of the human body. The difference is, it is her entire form that does it, not merely a system of nerves.
Otto Octavius "A whole conductive fluid that can program itself to mimic it's surroundings." Otto concludes, "I assume you need all of this mass to remain cohesive?"
Essix She blinks at him a few times, not entirely certain what he's asking. Her head tilts as she plays the words through herself a few times.

"You want a piece of me?" she asks, and not in that whole combative way the sentence usually means. "Why? Can I have a piece of you in return?"
Otto Octavius "You're unlike anything I've seen in my life as a scientist." Otto tells her, frankly, "If I can understand how your mass works and maintains itself, I hope to create a synthetic version of your matter."

Then, he looks down to his arms, and then back up to her, "Depends on which parts. I'm a lot less adaptable than you are."
Essix Without hesitation or fear, she walks around the table and right up to him. It was only a matter of time before it happened, and now seems the time.

"Why do you want to make synthetic version?" she asks, reaching out slowly with her 'hand' in an attempt to touch him, if he pulls away she'll take her hand back.

"Is the real one not enough?"
Otto Octavius "Can you self-replicate?" Otto asks as she touches him. He doesn't flinch, or move.
Essix Running a finger along his arm, she gets a better idea of how to mimic skin and he watches the clay-like appearance of her skin shift to match his better.

"Self... oh! You mean to make a second me," she grins, then takes her hand back. "No. It requires the entire Assembly to make a new one."
Otto Octavius "Allow me a sample, and I can find out if I can do it myself." Otto tells her as he slowly pulls out the probe.
Essix He was an interesting being, that much was true, the way he moves and thought, the things we was interested in, but something inside of her didn't like the idea of giving a piece of herself to him. She couldn't quite figure out why, but it nagged at her.

"What would you use it for?" She asks, before starting to walk around his lab and look at the various things there. It was all new to her, every little thing. "And what is scientist?"
Otto Octavius "A scientist is a person who advances a field of science for humanity." Otto replies, his hands going over the readout on the device as it sits there in midair in the tentacle in front of himself.

"I don't know what I'd use it for yet. I need to test your properties for applications."
Essix She picks up some random item to look at, turning it around a few times before putting it right back where it was. With each step her movements get better, she adjusts to the way this formation works and how it functions.

"Humanity," she repeats, looking over at him. "That is what you call your people? Like the Assembly." She offers him a huge smile, even that was starting to come more naturally even if she couldn't quite get the face right.

"You can run other tests on me if you'd like, while I think about giving you a piece of me. I've never actually tried to separate a piece, but then..." she laughs and walks back over to him, once again touching his arm. "... I was just born."
Otto Octavius "Humanity is a general term for my species, yes." Otto replies, still looking at the tablet. "Individuals are usually called humans."

The tentacle sets the tablet to the side and then goes across the lab space to a chest, where it pulls out another device. He brings it up to Essix's 'eyes' and shows it. "This is a sampler. It will take a small amount of your superstructure and contain it. I don't know how that will effect you, so tell me if something is wrong and I will stop. Do you understand?" Otto asks.
Essix This new device is stared at with her too big eyes, she was still working on matching the features of these humans. A solid species, which had to be very boring after a while, stuck the same all the time, though this one... he had extra parts that moved at his command.

"What if I want it back?" She then asks, keeping those eyes on the device. "Will you give it back, if I want it back?" She really has no idea what will happen if she tries to separate a piece or he takes a piece.

Her head tilts as she finally looks over at him, into his eyes, studying him very intently.
Otto Octavius "I have no interest in antagonizing you, so yes." Otto tells her, standing there. The tentacle remains where it is, "I can't very well help you and study you if there is no trust. You're a newborn just starting to learn about the reality you live in, right? We can help each other."
Essix Another tilt of the head, the other way, then she looks back at the device.

"Okay, you can try to take a piece, but I might want it back," she states with a nod, choosing to believe him, then stick out her arm. They're closer to the right length now, but still a little lumpy as she's getting muscles down.
Otto Octavius The device slowly descends on the 'arm' of the... hivemind? collective? symbiote?

Eventually, a very small vial and a collection arm take a pre-programmed dunk into that arm, as it tries to take a teardrop worth of Essix...
Essix Just like one would take blood from the vein, the little tid-bit of Essix slips right into the device and starts wiggling around of it's own accord. At first slowly, then it speeds up, tapping harder and harder against the device.

"Feels funny," she states with a shudder, left eye twitching which then slowly turns into her entire body twitching. "Me there, me here... very funny..." she shudders and then it just all stops. Her twitching, the piece wiggling.

"Oh... much better," she sighs in relief. "I can't feel it any more, is it still there?" She starts looking at the device.
Otto Octavius "Lots of individuals that disappear into a whole... and you just cut yourself off from this bit of you?" Otto mutters as he withdraws the device and brings the vial up to his eyes. Then another tentacle reaches out and grabs up a microscope with pincers as Otto stares at the vial, and puts the microscope on the table.

The vial is place under, and Otto brings his eyes up to it...
Essix So many things in this room, and he keeps indicating and using new things that grab her attention. "No, it cut off from me," she answers, following the vial. The little piece of her is still there, same color of aqua, just not moving. "I don't think I could cut it off, I do miss it though, is that odd?" She asks, then looks over at the microscope and has to move closer to look more closely.

"What do you see? Does it look like me only smaller?" That is exactly what it looks like, only there is something different, nothing in it is moving.
Otto Octavius "Do you know how your collective parts communicate?" Otto asks, instead of answering her question.
Essix She blinks a few times, "Collective parts? There is only one part. Me. That part there," she points to the vial, not that he can see her because he's looking through the microscope at it that part. "It still one part of this," and she gestures to herself.

"How many parts to you have? Do they communicate? Does this," she pokes his arm. "Talk to this?" she pokes his leg, "which talks to this?" She then pokes a tentacle. Quick pokes, not lingering just in case it gets upset by being touched.
Otto Octavius There's a moment of silence from Otto as he visibly thinks. "Do you know if you need any sort of fuel for your structures?"
Essix "You mean that coffee they were always demanding," she nods knowingly, as if this answered everything. "No, I don't require coffee, or sandwiches, or anything like that. The Assembly created a new consciousness and into it went everything it... I, would ever need." She finally gets too curious. "May I see me in the tiny tube?"
Otto Octavius There's actually a small smile from Otto at the mention of 'fuel'. "Coffee is a mild stimulant for us humans. It's also mildly addicting, but the withdrawal is so minor most consider the price worth it." Otto glances to Essix then, a look of study on his face, "I'll need to run some tests on the electrical properties from you."

Then, he moves away from the microscope and gestures to it with a real hand, "It isn't much."
Essix Essix listens to the story about coffee, which is pretty much what she heard through the pod with the scientists. She also heard about Frank and Janise at the Christmas party in the closet, Mike and Stan in the parking lot, and of course all the other office gossip that goes on. None of these things were useful information, but they were all things she heard and thus could never forget.

Stepping over she looks first /at/ the microscope, studying it just as intently as he had been studying the piece of her. Once she has touched it once, to know how it was constructed, she leans to look through the eye hole and immediately jumps back.

"Very large," she giggles. "Is that what that tool is for? To make things bigger than they actually are?" She steps up again and looks, and that's when the little vial starts wiggling and jumping again.

"Electrical properties? Are those important in me?" She then asks, trying to ignore that little piece wiggling around again, she even steps back from the microscope.
Otto Octavius "The concept is meant to help humans with understanding our reality." Otto informs her, "All of me is attached to my entire body. Trying to forcibly tear molecules from the whole will usually cause damage to our body, unless it's done properly. Some thing we can survive without... and some we will die instantly."

A tentacle brings the laptop back over. He types and clicks, and a video pops up, "This will explain basic anatomy for you." Otto offers it over with the same tentacle.
Essix The further away from the tube she goes, the less wiggling occurs until it stops. Essix watches the tentacle again as she listens to him talking, she likes the sound of his voice. He is quite logical, not like others who seemed to ramble the most worthless things.

"When I touched you," she begins, as she takes the laptop and starts to look at it. "I learned how your body is put together. There are /so/ many parts inside you! This will tell me what the name of all those parts are?"
Otto Octavius "Yes." Otto informs her. This can only be good for him. Giving her basic lessons in human 'construction' will mean he won't need to explain the tentacles too much.
Essix The first thing he would notice is exactly how fast Essix absorbs information. Now that she has the basics of the language she is speaking and reading, it is only a matter of looking up the words that she doesn't know. Once she's figured that out, the information on the screen is quickly gone through, screen after screen of human anatomy memorized, the names of the parts put with the information she'd already gleaned by touching him.

"How beautifully complex," she says when she is on the last page. "So many tiny parts working together to create you, but no explanation of how your consciousness gets inside this form of flesh."

She looks up at him now, and her face is a little more accurate. The eyes are closer to the correct size though there are still clear issues with the overall shape. "How do you become you?"
Otto Octavius The laptop is placed on the table, and Otto folds his real arms at his chest. The tentacles retract behind his back as he studies her, "Some people think they have all the answers to that question. Others not so much. The objective truth is... we don't know. Some people have better ideas than others, but I haven't heard an explanation for how our self is formed inside of our bodies."

He looks to one of his idle tentacles, then back to Essix, "We are getting better at understanding how our own bodies work: The tentacle harness fused to me is proof of that... but we have no idea where the 'soul' comes from yet."
Essix Now her attention is drawn back to the tentacles, watching the way they move, then even going so far as to move around behind him and look at his back.

"It must be difficult not knowing how you become you," she comments, reaching up to touch a tentacle, unless he stops her. "Then to have something added to you, still without knowing."

Stepping back around in front of him she asks, "You call the part of you that is you a 'soul'? Why? What significance does that word have to you being you?"
Otto Octavius "Some have more trouble about it than others." Otto casually remarks, "when we die, our body remains, but something is lost in the process. This 'something' is called a soul by some, for lack of a better term for it." Otto types into the laptop for a few key phrases into DuckDuckGo, giving various theories on the status and origins of the soul, "Without a way to measure it, these are all speculation."
Essix With new information pulled up, Essix turns back to the laptop to read. There was a lot of information out there, which meant a lot of questions that would get asked, but for now she is content to sit quietly and read through the concept of a soul, the beliefs behind it, and how it's all speculation with no proof at all. The spark inside a human that makes them more then a shell of flesh could not be quantified or measured, so people just started guessing all over the place, and some applied religion to it, but that was a whole other can of beans to learn about later.

When she finishes she looks back over at Otto and says, "Interesting. What do you believe?"
Otto Octavius "I think that if we can find a way to keep the soul attached to the body after death, I would be very interested to know if that can be a natural immortality. Beyond that, speculation is useless. We've survived for thousands of years without the answer. I have no interest in religious dogma." Otto waves dismissively at the screen, before he walks over to the camber wher Essix left.

A moment later, and his tentacles all come up and start to clean and prep to shut the chamber down, "what about you?" Otto asks.
Essix Finishing off the last of it, Essix stands up and walks over to pick up the meteor that she had been in. It seemed so small know, when only a short time ago it was everything.

"I don't know enough to have an opinion," she states, turning the meteor over a few times. "But it seems to me that the universe is far too large for just one possible answer, but I can't fathom the concept of a diety as a creator of all things. That would imply that you and I were created by the same entity, and surely that can't be."
Otto Octavius His tentacles continue their work as Otto looks back over his shoulder as 'Essix'. "Why not? Earth alone has millions of species in variety just from DNA based organic systems."
Essix Essix snorts softly, tucking the meteor against her side for now as he looks back over at him.

"There are thousands of inhabited planets out there, do you truly believe that one deity, entity, or whatever word describes the concept of a creator of all things... would do that? It makes far more sense that the evolution of planets over time is responsible, and the application of a supreme creator is due to the question of 'why do we exist'."
Otto Octavius Another dismissive wave is given, and Otto looks back to the chamber then, "It can make sense either way. Not that it matters. We're here, and it seems only outside forces can make us disappear."
Essix Since he's busy with the chamber, Essix starts to walk around the room to look at everything in it. For the time being she isn't touching, but it's obvious she wants to. Everything is unknown, no idea what it is or what it does, but it all holds her attention while he is working on the chamber.

"So what happens next?" she asks as she looks, finally touching some random object then taking her hand back. "You study the piece in the vial that really wants to come back to me, then what? What do you hope to achieve and how can I help?"
Otto Octavius "I'm a scientist." Otto replies, "I'm always interested in finding new subjects and interests to study, and it isn't often one gets to learn about extraterrestrial sentients." Otto finally turns away from the chamber and walks back over to the microscope, "How do you know it wants to come back to you?"
Essix A grin spreads across her crooked face before Essix walks back toward the microscope, but not to it. She stops about six feet away.

"If you look at it right now," she says calmly. "It is just there, in the vial, doing nothing at all. You can probably see all kinds of interesting things, but it is motionless."

She waits, giving him time to look if he wants to, then after a moment, she moves in closer. "At this point, right here, it will start to wiggle in the vial a little because that piece apparently has just one purpose, to get back to me, where it belongs. It doesn't hurt or feel or long for it, it merely is driven to get back to me."

She moves a little closer and as she does, the sample in the vial begins to wiggle more, and gets more liquid in nature, as if it can sense she is close. "I don't know why, I can just tell it is missing and that it wants to come back."
Otto Octavius As Otto listens, not moving, one of his tentacles flows over to the eyescopes and the 'red' eye camera in it looks at one of the eye holes. Looking into it, Otto frowns a bit, "Wireless communication?" Another tentacle shoots out, then other, as he grabs up a set of tools each and brings them over to the microscope, turning them on: One tests local radio signals, another tests broader electromagnetic fields.

"We have methods of doing this without being hardwired, but quantum mechanics is just starting to be researched... and might also be an explanation."
Essix Electromagnetic seems to be the answer, though how much the device picks up is based on how close Essix gets to the piece, but once she moves past the device it just starts singing with information. Everything about her is on that scale, the pulses of electromagnetism flow through her at a steady pace, a discernable pattern evident. The piece begins to pulse with the same pattern the closer she gets to it, and when she stops with in a foot of it, she and the piece match perfectly.

"Wireless..." she tilts her head, trying to fathom what he means by that. "Communication without wires? Yes... that is how the Assembly communicates. No wires, just..." she points at the piece a moment. In that moment, something dawns on her and a smile spreads across her face. "I know!"

Stepping back again she holds up both of her hands. "This hand," her right one. "Is me. This one," she wiggles the left. "Is another like me. Okay?" She seems rather excited that she finally thought of this. "This is how we communicate."

Both hands move toward each other and as they do, they revert to the aqua viscus liquid that is her natural form and meld together into one. "Understand?"
Otto Octavius "We're only just starting to focus on communication using this sort of technology." Otto informs her. "It's how the laptop retrieves data for computer use."

The tools are dropped onto the table gently, and Otto looks directly at Essix, "I couldn't hold you here even if I wanted to, with the nature of your system. I have everything I need to research ways to attempt replicanting your structure."

Otto looks to the various windows and the door. If she is a scout for this planet, as he speculates... it's a win win to let her go anyway, "If you'd like to learn about this world, all I ask is you keep this location a secret. I have no desire to talk to anyone right now."
Essix A secret.

Essix pulls both hands away into hands again, her head tilting as she looks at him. Something ripples through her entire being and she nods.

"I can't tell your secrets," she states. "No matter if someone asks me, even if I wanted to share them, I can't. I am physically unable to. No one will learn about this place from me."

She steps a little closer to him, studying his face. "Do you want to hold me? You say that you can't, and that is true, but did you want to?" She doesn't seem afraid of the idea of being held here against her will, she's merely curious. "Also, do I count as an anyone you don't want to talk to? Should I... stop talking?"
Otto Octavius "Even if I wanted to implies that I do not. It simply attaches a hypothetical question to the matter." Otto retracts his tentacles against and looks to Essix, "Talk to anyone but you. I forget you're very literal."
Essix Essix ahhhs softly and nods, "I see. I will learn, perhaps not be entirely literal." She glances toward the windows now, then looks back to him.

"I will be back in exactly thirty-five hours," she then says. "I will need a vessel, a... container when I return, if that is alright, other wise I will spread out across the floor and you might step in me."

The prospect of seeing 'out there' is starting to make her bubbly and she starts inching toward the windows, no idea what they are but he had looked at them so she is. Out there is... well, right there.

"Thirty-five earth hours," she repeats quickly, then turns into the viscus liquid and oozes under the window and out.
