Owner Pose
Stephanie Brown It is Monday evening. Classes have resumed for Stephanie at Gotham University. Though for now she's letting her homework pileup as she spends her time on other educational matters. Of a sort.

She's sitting in a chair in front of the Batcomputer, wearing a pair of jeans, sweater, and tennis shoes. Her blond hair is pulled back into a ponytail. Stephanie blows a bubble with some pink bubblegum, popping it and then typing a few commands and moving the mouse about.

A number of windows open, showing feeds from cameras that she placed in the Narrows. Shown are various areas in and around some of the old derelict buildings that have been emergency repurposed into housing for refugees from New York. She watches them, looking from one feed to another for a few moments, and then takes control of one and starts rewinding the tape, watching through it on fast forward then looking for anything of interest.
Dick Grayson     The rumble of an engine comes from the tunnel leading out of the Batcave, shortly followed by the Nightbird pulling in and parking. Dick gets out wearing everyday clothes and heads up the stairs to the computer platform. Glancing at the display, he leans down to kiss Steph lightly, then pulls another chair over to sit by her.

"Heya sexy, I see you're keeping an eye on our growing refugee situation. Anything we need to worry about yet, or is it just your run of the mill evacuation?" Not that any evacuation was run of the mill, but there were degrees of problem associated with them.
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown glances at one of the security displays to see who the new arrival is before the bike has made it beneath the waterfall and into the Batcave. Her face lights up a bit, and by the time Dick has made it to the raised platform, she's spun the chair to face him and leans up to return the soft kiss.

She turns back to the huge monitors as he takes a seat near her. "Yes I am," she says. "Had to put a bunch of cameras out there as most of the buildings were slated for demolition, didn't have anything left in them," she tells him.

She taps a few commands and brings up some footage she's marked. Showing a few dealers making drug deals in hallways. Another clip shows a woman rushing into a room and slamming the door just before two men get to it. They kick the door once or twice, but then turn and leave. "Yeah, I'm afraid this is kind of like... sharks and chum," she says.
Dick Grayson     Sitting down and watching the monitors, he nods. "Well, I expected a good bit of crime to go on, given a large number of people coming into an already troubled area. I think we're going to have to put in a number of appearances before these idiots realize that yes, we are watching what goes on. We won't be able to stop the various low level drug deals, but that sort of thing" He points to the clip of the woman barely escaping "we need to shut down quickly and decisively."

He looks back over to Steph and says "Hope your school workload isn't too heavy right now, because we're going to be putting a lot of time into this. But we need to let people know they are protected, and we need to make sure the criminals understand that they don't want to do that in Gotham."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown resumes fast forwarding through the one video clip. "Yes, I'm a bit worried how easy it would be to make some of these people disappear. No one to check on them or even realize they are missing," she says, frowning.

The young woman reaches over, resting her free hand on Dick's back. "Well, it is kind of heavy," she says with a sigh. "But I'll manage it. This is a crisis and need to do all we can," she agrees with him.

"How about you? How is Gotham City PD holding up overall with everything going on?" she asks him. "Not just the refugees to deal with, but the possibility fighting could spread if it's not contained in New York. I imagine things are tense to say the least?" she asks, looking over and blue eyes focusing on the GCPD Detective.
Dick Grayson     Dick watches the monitors as he answers, "Police are pretty ready for this, I think. We've had some experience with disasters before, and this time all we have is the displaced people rather than it being our own disaster, so it's more crowd control rather than anything else. I'll have a word with the commissioner about increasing patrols in the area even more. We may want to set up a command truck and base a few officers out of it for constant coverage of the area."

He reaches over and punches a few keys, bringing an image up on screen in front of him. "I recognize this guy. Trying to make a name for himself in the Gotham crime scene, so we'll need to watch for him trying something stupid. Only name I've heard so far is Tommy, no idea if that's a real name or just what he goes by.
Stephanie Brown Stephanie leans over towards the screen as Dick brings up the picture. "I'll run some facial recognition to see if he's been around there," she says, tapping a few keys to start that going.

A little chime sounds and a small alert goes off. Stephanie pulls it up. "Wire tap on one of the Maggia families, connecting to another known number," she says. Which Dick can read for himself on the screen as well. Stephanie taps a button so they can listen to it live.

"... I'm telling ya, it's like a smorg-ass-broad down there. I should be able to get you, oh a half dozen women by the end of the week," a man's voice is saying on the phone. The Batcomputer runs some analysis and announces the identity is one Anthony Capenzo. Stephanie taps his name and his list of priors and known associates comes up. Some breaking and entering, and extortion. The group's notes on him mention growing involvement in human trafficking.

A second voice replies, "Good, you get me six and I'll give you 10k for each," he says. The two begin haggling over the price, and Stephanie turns down the volume, a look of disgust on her face. "Ok, we're going to have to do something about that," she says, looking to Dick.
Dick Grayson     Dick's eyes narrow as he listens to the discussion of kidnappoing and selling women. This was very different from the occasional drug sale or petty larceny. He nods to Steph, saying "Yeah, that is so not happening." He studies Capenzo's face to make sure he can recognize the man in the future, then says "Ok, that's our first target. He's a definite, Tommy is a maybe, but I'll tag them so if anything comes up the computer will pull it and alert us. Might as well send them to Barbara as well, I'm sure she's keeping an eye on the situation too."

He rolls his chair over to the mini fridge and pulls a bottle of water, then another for Steph which he hands her after rolling back over. "What really worries me is our resident collection of super psychos. The Maggia and such are a problem, but if Joker or Penguin take an interest in the refugees, it could turn bad really fast. Let's send a message out to all our assorted family to keep a closer watch than usual on the area."
Stephanie Brown "Yeah, let's hope Joker doesn't decide to... god that guy is so crazy I don't even want to let my mind wander into trying to figure out what he might do," Stephanie says. She takes the water with a grateful smile, leaning back in her chair as she opens it up and takes a sip.

"You know," she says, eyeing the water bottle. "I keep waiting for Harley Quinn to show her true colors. And I don't mean her two-tone bustier. Seems like she's.... helping though," Stephanie says, frowning just a little bit and her fingertip tracing over the top of the water bottle.
Dick Grayson     "Yeah she is, actually. A couple of the Titans have been involved in working with her, and so far it seems to be going pretty well. I mean, she'll always need at least a little watching because she is kind of on the bonkers end of the sanity scale, but she's trying, at least."

He also takes a sip of his water and adds, "Poison Ivy seems to spend time around her as well, so maybe we can get her pulled at least a little towards the light too. Would be nice to have a few less costumed villains to contend with, even if they don't turn all the way around and fight crime, at least they won't be committing it."
Stephanie Brown From the twist of Stephanie's mouth, she doesn't seem to like the news about Harvey. She takes another sip of her water and sets it down on the counter. "Well, I suppose a few less crazies is a good thing," she says, eyes back intent on the screen.

"I can set up a watch for Capenzo, but he might not do the work of nabbing the women by himself. Or at least, not just him. So we're going to have to figure out how we want to do this. Catch him in the act and get him to squeal on where they would be holding any? Though if he doesn't handle that part himself, I mean we'd have to leverage him without having caught him at anything." Which of course can be done, just more difficult. "Thoughts?"
Dick Grayson     Dick considers for a moment, then shakes his head. "No way to know how many people he's got working for him, so we can't depend on him coming up on the cameras. If we do catch him red-handed, then yeah, we take a page from Bruce's book and dangle him off the roof of a building or something until he decides he doesn't like the idea of plummeting. Let's also get Barbara on this specifically, she's probably got more cameras and mics in the area than we have in storage. We'll have her tag any conversation that mentions Capenzo and anything to the effect of capturing or selling women. It'll probably bring in a ton of hits that aren't actually criminal, but it's somewhere to start."

"Other than that, it's going to be some serious legwork, we need to keep a presence in there pretty much twenty four hours a day. Let's call in everyone, Jason, Cass, Strix, Tim and his group, hopefully we can get the area covered. My biggest current problem is that I can't be there as much as I want, because with refugees coming in as they are, I can't very well choose now to take off work, so that's going to bite into my time. Going to be living on caffeine and naps for a few weeks."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie gives little nods as she listens to Dick. "Alright, I'll put the word out," she says. She picks up her water and tips it back, finishing the small bottle off.

She leans forward to brush a gentle kiss to Dick's lips. "I have a feeling this is going to be one of those weeks I'm going to be going as you're coming and vice versa," she says with a sigh. "Can probably meet up for lunch if nothing else. You can help me cram for my Chem 201 test," she says. She always needs help with Chemistry. "Speaking of, I'd better get word out and then get to it on that." She rises and trails her fingers along the back of Dick's neck. "Wake me up when you get in," she tells him. Dick Grayson gets a fond smile from the younger blond woman, and a contented sigh, before she heads for her bike.
