Owner Pose
Dick Grayson     Nightwing is sitting in front of the Bat Computer's main console, flipping through pictures and video of the recent riot in Blackgate. He's mainly looking at security tapes from right before it all started. He's got multiple paused videos on some of the side monitors while he watches one of the main display.

He looks over as Steph gets near him and says "I'm getting strong hints this whole thing was planned, rather carefully actually. I'm still not sure what the actual point was yet though." He spins around in his chair to face her, asking "So how was your day, any new disasters I should know about?"
Stephanie Brown The research that Stephanie had started at the Clocktower, on Cassandra's birthday, continues now in the Batcave. Surveillance being conducted on Anthony Capenzo and any of his known associates, as well as others involved in human trafficking or forced prostitution in the past. Trying to identify those that Capenzo is sending in among the refugees from Manhattan to 'fill an order' for girls so they can be intercepted.

Stephanie sits at the counter near to Dick, working on her own section of the giant screens. She's been not quite her normal self since the riot. She's been... quiet. That's SOOOO not Stephanie. Quiet and determined. She hasn't really given Dick the story of what happened, beyond telling him that she saw her father escape out the fence.

Clearly something is up there.

Stephanie leans back in her chair. "No, I've kind of blown off school this week," she says with a slight wince. "Going to have to cram this weekend and crank out a paper as well."
Dick Grayson     Dick reaches over and taps her lightly on the nose, "Bad Steph. Your schoolwork is important, there's enough of us these days that you don't need to pull all-nighters as much as we used to. I want to see you get your degree, young lady."

He looks around the Batcave, then back to her and says, "Honestly, sometimes I wish this place wasn't necessary so all of us could have actual lives, but it is what it is." He looks back to her and shakes his head, adding "I mean, you've seen what it's done to Bruce when he lets the mask drop, it just about consumes him. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, yet look at how many people share this life with us. It's like being a soldier except the war is never going to end."
Stephanie Brown Maybe it's just a comment from Dick. Or maybe he's being discrete in touching on what's on Stephanie's mind. She having entered this life to stop her father. That he's just escaped, and how it happened, is consuming her thoughts since the riot.

The girl glances over to Dick for a moment, as if trying to decide if he's being discrete and clever there. Probably is. She lets out a sigh and reaches over, resting a hand on his shoulder. Just the act of touching him bringing her a small amount of calm that has been missing from her.

Stephanie is quiet for a few moments, and then says, "So I got knocked down. During the fight. Slapped a sticky bomb on the back of Amygdala's head and had to trigger it while I was still a bit close for comfort," she tells him in a subdued voice.

She gives a tiny shake of her head. "Looked up, and dad was there, reaching his hand down to me to help me up. My head was ringing from the blast still. And, I just took it, you know?" she says. She looks back at the screen, her expression hardening. "Helped pull me up. Just high enough he could ram his knee into my head. And then ran off through the hole in the wall." She fumes quietly. "I realize now, he didn't know it was me. But in that moment, it just..." she says, shaking her head.
Dick Grayson After listening to her story, Dick stand and moves to behind Steph's chair so he can give her a hug and kiss her on top of her head. "That had to be hard to deal with. We always want to see the best in people we care about, and it can hurt when we see their worst instead. But yeah, he was just hitting one of those damn bats so he could make a quick exit before we got control of the place."

"Is that what's had you so quiet the past few days? I had the feeling something was bothering you, but I didn't want to pry since you hadn't said anything." He turns her chair around so he can kiss her, then says "Remember, you don't have to keep your troubles to yourself. Part of being a couple is communication and helping each other through the things that come up in life."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown reaches her arm to rest atop Dick's as it enfolds her from behind, and leans back against him as much as the chair allows. "Yeah. I guess it's just... in that moment, with my head ringing and all. I saw him reaching to help me. And for just that moment, I forgot who he really is. It was just... Dad reaching to help me," she says.

Stephanie looks down, shaking her head, and Dick can tell she's upset at herself for letting her guard down. For letting herself, even in that brief moment, think he could have changed. Dick spins her chair then and she looks back up at him as he leans in to softly kiss her.

The girl's arms go around him, hugging him back tightly until their lips part and she's looking into his eyes. "I know," she says a little ruefully. "I'm sorry. It just... was eating at me. And we need to find Capenzo's men before they disappear those women and so I can't even focus on hunting him down yet. It's..." she says before giving him one of her goofy looks. "Upsetting."
Dick Grayson     He leans his forehead against hers and exhales quietly. "I know it's upsetting, but you were stunned, looked up and saw your dad reaching his hand out to you. It had to flash you back to better times, when you were a family. There had to have been good times before you realized what he was and began trying to catch him. It's natural to go back to that with what was going on."

He straightens up, then pulls his chair over beside hers and sits back down. "We'll get him back, you can be sure of that, but yeah, we have a more important problem right now." He glances up at the monitors, then back to her and asks, "Have you made any progress on that whole trafficking thing yet? It's something we do need to get on quickly before they vanish on us."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown rests her hand back on Dick as he slides his chair over to her. Gently rubbing her fingers over his shoulder, the touch comforting to her. "Not as much as I'd like," she says with a sigh. "There was one call that Capenzo stopped someone else from talking about something. Like they were being cautious of what they said on the phones they were on. Maybe they have some burners, or some other way of communicating. Either way I don't know that we're likely to get something from the taps."

She works the mouse with her free hand, pulling up a few displays of other pieces of information that Oracle's search routines are pulling up on the people in question. One of them lists credit card purchases for one of Capenzo's known close associates. Dick might notice something scrolling past slowly. A rental car company, and the rental of a van.
Dick Grayson     As he scans the info she's pulling up, Dick shakes his head and mutters, "It's like they expect us to be watching or something. We might be doing too well for our own good, we seem to have a reputation or something. Apparently the criminals are getting smarter, a depressing prospect."

He looks at the info scrolling by then points at one item, "Hang on, that might be something. A van sounds like the type of thing you'd transport a bunch of kidnapped women in, wouldn't you say? We might want to look into that one, at least it's some type of lead where we've been coming up with nothing."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown moves the mouse over to the record, pulling up more details on it. The time and the location it was purchased from. "Good eye," she says, glancing over to flash Dick a warm smile before turning back to the screen.

She finds the rental company's website and then directs the Batcomputer's hacking programs towards it. Stephanie leans back in her chair while it analyzes the network security and then begins to break through so they can access the company's databases.

"Once we get a license plate for it we can see if we can't track it down. Maybe send some drones over some of these guy's houses to see if it is parked outside one. Get a tracer on it if so?" she suggests.
Dick Grayson     "Yeah, that would be a good idea. Shouldn't be too hard to track the thing down with the number of surveillance devices we have all over the city at this point. Between Bruce and Barbara, I'd bet there isn't a block of the city we don't have eyes on. Once we find it, keeping track of it will be a snap."

Looking over to her he says, "I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to hack into a rental company, and once we have the license plate it should be the work of moments for one of the cameras to spot the thing. Then we simply keep an eye on it and we should be good to go." He looks over and adds, "Might as well add your father's picture into it, the cameras can look for two things as easily as one, and hopefully we'll be able to tie up two loose ends at once."

"Do you want to handle your father personally, or can any of us pick him up if he's spotted? It's up to you, and I'll understand if you feel you have to handle it yourself."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie pauses for just a moment in thought. "No, if someone sees him they should arrest him. He's just... just another criminal, and likely to hurt someone or at least rob them if he's left out there on the street," she says with a sigh.
