Roberto Da Costa The plan was to meet at the Archie Goodwin Airport in Gotham, at the Oceanic Airlines check in desk. Except when the time comes there's no Roberto, at least, nowhere to be seen.

Though if Steph checks in with her boarding pass number, she finds herself being whisked out of the press of everyday travellers to the Oceanic Passenger Lounge, a fancy series of rooms, decked out for absolute comfort, with a buffet set of food and drinks, and it's own set of TSA people who handle baggage checks, and go over everyone with a metal detector wand before letting them inside. In all it beats the hell out of cramped, crowded boarding lounges and long lines at security!

Waiting inside the lounge is Roberto, lazing back in one of the lounge's reclining chairs a virgin mimosa in one hand, and when he spots Steph he waves, "Hey you made it," he grins. They were taking a red eye to Rio tonight, giving them both the day for school and allowing them to arrive with plenty of time to make the most of their weekend in Rio for the next two days before flying home late on Sunday.
Stephanie Brown It took Steph a little bit to reach that point.

"You've got your passport right? They won't let you in the country without it."

"Yes Mom, I've got it."

"Ok, and you have numbers for his family so if you get lost and can't reach Roberto you have someone else you can call?"

"Yes Mom, I've got Nina's number and one for their house there."

"Remember to watch yourself there. You don't know the culture and are just starting to learn the language, so you never know how they may differ from what we'd do."

"Yes Mom, I promise, no illicit drug or weapons purchasing."

"You're all grown up aren't you? I like Roberto a lot. Have a good time, just call me each day, ok?"

"I will Mom. I love you."

"I love you too."

Stephanie was rubbing at her eyes as she approached the gate, only to get directed over to the lounge she had no clue existed. She walks in, rolling her back behind her. The wave helps her spot Roberto immediately and she hurries over to him. "Hey. Finally made it," she says. She breaks out in one of her huge grins. "We're actually doing this," she says, smile showing a flash of white teeth. She plops down in the chair next to Roberto, shining that smile over at him!
Roberto Da Costa When Steph plops herself down Roberto leans over to kiss her cheek. "We are," he says, and hands her a drink he had waiting for her, "Virgin mimosa, like mine," he explains then holds out his drink to clink with hers. "Wish it was a longer trip but we're finally going, and besides, we'll go again, I'm sure," he promises.
Stephanie Brown Stephanie takes the drink as it's offered to her. The kiss to her cheek earns Roberto still more of her smile, and a fond touch to his face by the blond girl. "I have a feeling I'm getting utterly spoiled on this trip as to what air travel is like," she says with a look around the sumptuously decorated lounge, by airport standards.

She takes a sip of the drink. "You're not going to get a complaint out of me. I'm just... over the moon right now about the whole experience," she assures Roberto. Another sip of the drink, followed by, "Oh, that's nice. Now I wonder what the regular ones taste like," she says with a soft laugh. "What is the drinking age in Brazil anyway?"
Roberto Da Costa "Have you flown before?" Roberto asks, before adding the caveat. "I mean not while being carried by a certain super awesome mutant. If not, then yes, from what I understand this will totally spoil the regular flying experience, but, if you want to try to capture it, just imagine the food is less good and you're crammed into a seat with a bunch of sweaty travelers with little concept of personal space," he grins. "Or so that's what Sam tells me flying coach is like anyhow."

"It's pretty close to the real thing, which you can judge for yourself once we're down there, the drinking age is eighteen like it is in all the civilized countries. Damn puritans, making a big deal out of drinking, in Brazil it's no big deal, you can get and drink booze pretty much wherever and you can drink it walking down the street without getting hassled, just you know, don't drive, if you want to keep your license."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie turns sideways in her seat, drawing one leg up slightly as her focus is on Roberto fully while they talk. She breaks out in a soft laugh, looking down and smiling. "That was a pretty awesome flight. I can't really imagine that ever being topped," she tells him as she looks back up, eyes shining with such warmth for him.

She gives a small shake of her head and says, "Not flown commercial no. I have been up in airplanes before, on a couple of occasions. More the... private, black painted variety though," she tells Roberto.

She leans over closer to him, hand resting on her arm as she whispers in his ear, "I took a sub down to the bottom of the ocean this week. I got to drive it. And... there was this giant lobster monster and... I can tell you when there aren't so many people around."

She leans back, but leaves her hand there on Roberto, giving a soft laugh about the drinking age. "Yeah, we're kind of prudish here," she agrees. "I'm not the biggest drinker. With my mom's problem I sort of steered away from it. But I don't mind having a few down there with you. I mean, if there's anyone I trust to take care of me like that, it's you," she says. "And to make sure I don't let it become something I want to do very much, either."
Roberto Da Costa "True, but still I apologize for giving you an entirely unrealistic expectation of commercial air travel, I mean, the package we're signed up for is to compete with private jets," Roberto says, "So, yeah, just a bit better than normal."

He nods about the drinking thing, "I get it, and yeah, I drink to add to an already good time, and never when I'm upset, same reasons don't want it to become an issue, also most of what I wear is super expensive and I don't want to puke on it," he jokes with a wink.

That's when one of the attendants appears. "Mr. da Costa, Ms. Brown, we're ready to board if you want to come with me," she says, and Roberto downs his drink, stands and extends a hand to Steph. "Shall we?"
Stephanie Brown A soft laugh is given about the worry over his clothes. "Ever practical," she tells him with a joking roll of her eyes. Stephanie is about to say more when the attendant comes over. Stephanie quickly takes a few more sips of her drink the sets the remainder down.

She slips her hand into Roberto's as he offers it and rises with him. Her wheeled bag is grabbed by the hand, the other arm going about Roberto's waist. "Brazil, here we come," she tells him with a bright smile, looking back to the attendant then to share the look with the woman and try to help make her day brighter as well, if just for a few moments.
Roberto Da Costa Roberto takes Steph's hand and the two of them are led to the boardring ramp and shown onto the plane. Coming in from the front they're greeted by the crew and one of them shows them not to a pair of seats but a 'First Class Cabin' a room in the middle of the plane next to several others. Inside were a pair of huge reclining seats side by side, and a large screen on the wall in front of them.

The stewardess explains it all, how the suite could be used as is or converted to a bed during their thirteen hour non-stop flight to Rio, before going over the TV and the menu before leaving the pair to their own devices.

"We'll sit for now and call you when we want it set up as a bed, if that's alright?" Roberto says before she goes, and when the stewardess confirms it he turns to Steph, falling back into his seat. "Sound good to you too?"
Stephanie Brown Stephanie does her best not to gawk and embarrass Roberto before the flight attendant. "That sounds perfect," she agrees, though Roberto will know her enough to know how much she's restraining at the moment to look so calm.

She waits for the attendant to depart then, before breaking out in a fit of giggles. "What I said about you spoiling me here... I truly didn't even begin to understand on what level that statement was correct," she says as she looks around the space.

"Know what though?" she asks as she moves over to him. Stephanie sits astride his lap for a moment so she can be close to Roberto as he's there in his seat. "As nice as all of this? Doesn't matter. This is all that matters to me," she says, resting her hand over his heart. "And this." Her hand goes to her necklace, to the gift from him that she treasures so.

She leans in to give him a slow, tender kiss before slipping off his lap, if he lets her, to take her own seat beside him. "How many times have you made this flight?" she asks.
Roberto Da Costa Roberto grins as Steph giggles. "Yeah, I may have undersold things a bit," he says. "This is pretty awesome," he says, not to mention probably costing as much as most of Steph's first year of college for a scant thirteen hours of flight time. Roberto smiles sincerely at Steph's words, "Well, we could always head on back to coach," he teases, before returning the kiss, and letting her grab her seat. "A few, not always like this though, made sure we went all out this time to make things special. Normally I just slum it with a regular first class seat," he says with a bit of a smirk at his own arrogance.
Stephanie Brown Stephanie holds her hands up in a gesture as if unsure. "I mean, I wouldn't want this all to go waste," she says. "And I appreciate that you did it," she tells him, turning on her side in her seat to face him more. "You really treat me well, Roberto," she tells him, resting her head on the chairback. "I might have to go online and start refuting all those rumors about you," she says, with a little teasing exaggeration in her expression to make clear the joke of it.

She relaxes there, eyes on her boyfriend. "So tell me about the blessed couple that's getting married? And, are there any particular customs at the wedding different from ours that I should know about? And if you guys do the bouquet thing and you want me to catch it? I promise I can probably take down the whole group of women before it even makes it to us," she says, lacing her fingers and moving them as if she's going to crack her knuckles. But she doesn't. Because, ew, that sound.
Roberto Da Costa Roberto grins, "Well good then," he says about not letting everything go to waste. "And hey, if I can't spoil my girl, who can I spoil?" he asks, with a grin knowing she meant more than just spoiling her. "Anyhow, you're worth it," he adds leaning over to give her a kiss

Roberto smiles about the wedding customs, "More or less standard Catholic wedding stuff for the ceremony, for the reception there's a few traditions to help set the couple up in their new life, but I'll fill you in about them when we're there, it's a bit weird just hearing about it." He grins. "As for the couple it's my cousin Francisco and his fiance Aline getting married, it's been a whole big deal, because of personal drama, also both families are super rich and connected sooo, it's sort of been big in the gossip pages as well, so I think everyone's finally happy it's happening, and hoping things will get back to the normal level of crazy for my family," he explains.
Stephanie Brown As Roberto asks her who else he could spoil if not here, she is quick with a reply. "Definitely not other girls," she tells him, soft blue eyes lit with warmth for Roberto as she leans in to share the tender kiss with him.

She leans back in her chair, crossing her legs as he talks about the wedding. "Francisco and Aline," Stephanie repeats as if committing the names to memory. "So I imagine that probably doesn't hurt the family business, having extra connections to others like that? I'm guessing your father is pretty pleased about the situation? Is Francisco's father involved in Da Costa International as well?" she asks.

Stephanie's fingers start to rub against each other and fidget slightly. "I just want to make a good impression with your family. Which... I don't know. Smile a lot and don't say much, probably," says the girl for whom interactions in social circles have been a struggle for most of her life.
Roberto Da Costa Laughing Roberto says, "Fiiine, I'll just throw out all the toys for my little cousins then," he says, since they counted as 'other girls' even if not in that way. He gives Steph another wink as he puts on his seat belt as the plane begins to pull away from the terminal.

"Yeah, his dad is on the board, he's my dad's cousin, grandpa had a bunch of brothers and sisters even if he and dad really didn't have big families. So lots of da Costa cousins, but the mainline is pretty small. But yeah the family connections thing is huge, it's still like Game of Thrones down there, all about alliances and things," he says.

As for fitting in Roberto says, "Honest answer? Just be you. There are people who aren't going to like you for who you are, and that you're not part of their wealthy little club of families, and no matter what most of them are still going to be shitty about that. The good news there is you don't have to care about any of them, if they're going to hate you anyway might as well be you, the people worth knowing will respect that, besides, you'll have me and Bea watching your back, and nobody there can really talk shit to either of us."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown lets out a dramatic sigh. "Fiiiine... as long as they are family. Or young enough they only come up yay high," she says, using her hand in the air to set a limit. "You must be taller than this hand in order to be spoiled by Roberto da Costa. Or ride on the Gotham Ghost," she says, naming a well-known rollercoaster in Amusement Mile.

Roberto's girlfriend looks a little pensive at his suggestion. "I see what you mean," she says. "I've never really done well with mean girls. I mean, the kind I can't use a bo staff on. It's like my weapons have been taken away," she says, giving Roberto a guilty grin. "But... yes. I can do that. And, I want this to be a great trip for you. I'll try to help make that happen," she tells him. "My way of spoiling you back," she tells him as she smiles over to Roberto. "Is your mom coming down or, with it being your dad's half of the family is she going to stay away on this one?" she asks, realizing she never really was certain that Nina was going in telling her mother what she did.
Roberto Da Costa Roberto grins, "That works," he says of the height limits on spoiling other girls. Though then he's quiet for take off, he jumps right back into things once they're in the air. "Well don't rule out hitting some of them with a bo staff," Berto says, shaking his head. "Some of them deserve it. Especially Teresa Moreno."

"And nah, mom's not coming, it'd be awkward, but she did say hello by the way," he adds with a grin.
Stephanie Brown "Ok, I'm sending her a text," Stephanie says. "I was meaning to call her this week but... ah, I sort of dove to the bottom of the ocean in a submarine to retrieve a statue that his sea monsters were after. Which sort of cut into my free time," she tells Roberto as she pulls out her phone and begins tapping on it. "Also? Wonder Woman is like, so beautiful. Seriously, you're never going near her because I can't see anyone not falling for her," she says, with a shake of her head.

"And... sorry you won't be there... lunch when we're back in Gotham..." Stephanie dictates aloud as she's thumb-typing on the phone. She sends the message and then slips her phone back into her pocket.

Her attention is now completely refocused on Roberto. "Alright, it's story time it sounds like. What's the detail on one Teresa Moreno?" she asks.
Roberto Da Costa Roberto shakes his head at the Wonder Woman line. "Yeah? Good to know," he says. "Though what happened with the submarine exactly?" he asks her.

As for that last question, "She's like the girl version of me, her family is almost as rich, and she likes to let everyone know it, anyhow, unlike me she's a horrible person, who bullied the hell out of my first girlfriend. So, yeah, if you want to hit anyone with a bo staff then, she's definitely your girl."
Stephanie Brown Stephanie repeats the name again. "Teresa Moreno. One butt-kicking authorized," she says, though the small grin on her face makes it seem unlikely she's actually planning to enact that plan. Though again, there's a bit of a determined set in her eyes? Who really knows...

Stephanie leans back in her chair. "Well, the sub was... it's more like a speedboat that goes underwater? Sort of like... you've seen the GI Joe movie with the underwater fight? More like something from that, not like a Navy submarine. It was my first time piloting it so I was a little nervous," she says.

There's a moment of consideration, but Stephanie decides not to mention she almost launched a torpedo at Wonder Woman while trying to get the sonar's depth display to switch to the metric system.

"So, well, this thing was down in this deep underwater canyon off Nova Scotia. Place called The Gulley. Horrible name. And there were creatures down there. Sentient things kind of lobster-like in appearance. I'm starting to realize the ocean is filled with a lot more of this kind of stuff than I'd ever thought," she says.

She gives a little wave of her head. "So, they didn't want to give up the statue. Wanted to... er... eat us actually. And this other underwater race showed up and it sort of turned into a big battle. Managed to evade everything shot at us. Wonder Woman got to the item and we zoomed in and dropped her a line to tow her out of there fast."

Stephanie sits up a little bit. "Oh. And what we thought was the lobster-guys vehicle... turned out to be like, Queen Lobster. She was... five, six stories tall? We actually went underneath of her to get away. Everyone safe though."
Roberto Da Costa Joking or not Roberto doesn't seem inclined to stop her from kicking Teresa's butt, so she must have been /really/ horrible back in the day. Regardless, Roberto listens to the story with clear amusement, exclaiming at the story's end, "Mae de dios, and I thought I had weird adventures. Also, not going into the ocean again, not if there's six-story lobster queens waiting out there," he shakes his head. "That a normal sort of adventure for you or was that a weird one?"
Stephanie Brown The laugh from Stephanie tells the answer. "Oh no, that was definitely weird. Gotham is mostly normal people that I have to deal with. I mean, crazy, homicidal people sometimes. But people," she tells him. "I don't think I told you, I was the reason that statue was in the water in the first place. Stopped this Cheetah-lady villain from escaping with it from an auction on a yacht she had out there."

She sighs. "Break up drug deals. Arms smuggling. Human trafficking. Stop Scarecrow from releasing his fright gas in the subway. Or stop Penguin from robbing the Gotham Diamond Exchange. Those sorts of things are normal," she tells him.

She moves her hand to cover her mouth as she yawns. "Speaking of? I was very late getting in from patrol last night. How about if we convert this thing into a bed and I get a little beauty sleep so I can look good on your arm?"

It doesn't take them long to get the bed converted, with some help from the flight attendant. And a long stretch of the longer flight is spent cuddled up together on the bed, sleeping happily.

Back to Roberto's home.
