Owner Pose
Laura Kinney With a new potential member of the Outsiders under evaluation Laura has taken it upon herself to do a little background checking of her own. Some scent tracking, a little legwork and use of the Outsiders computer systems later and she's found her way to Harpers building.

Not that anyone could tell by casually searching the building. No trace on the stairs. No sign in the elevators. Nor has she appeared on any CCTV in the area. Not that any cameras work in the narrows to begin with...

It's almost like she's been trained to break into secure buildings or something!
Harper Row It being Saturday, Harper and Cullen spent most of the day gaming on their refurbished PS4. As evening approached, Harper placed an order for pizza pickup and left her brother in the apartment to make a new batch of Kool Aid (blended grape and strawberry flavors).

Returning to the building with a couple of pizza boxes, Harper bee-lines to the elevator and waits for it to reach the ground floor. After it beeps and opens she steps in and presses the button for her apartment's floor.
Laura Kinney It's not until the elevator gets between floors that anything unusual happens. And then it stops. Which is probably not so uncommon in the Narrows but in Harpers building? A little more unusual.

What's even less expected is that the hatch in the roof opens and a petite figure drops into the elevator. Dressed in a black hoodie, yoga pants and some plain black sneakers the figure isn't exactly imposing in build or height.

"You're the new candidate," she notes, sniffing the air. A statement not a question. "I'm doing some additional background checks."
Harper Row The stopping of the elevator is not completely unknown. But then the opening of the hatch gives Harper a start and she backs into the corner of the elevator. Then, the figure in black drops in and ... (Oh my... and here I don't have my kit with me,) Harper thinks to herself.

"So... You're with Red Robin I take it?" Harper theorizes outloud at the girl-in-black.
Laura Kinney Laura Kinney tilts her head slightly. "I can neither confirm nor deny that statement," she offers helpfully. "No traces of drugs. Illegal weapons or undiagnosed health conditions." There's another sniff. "But if you wish to have kids today would be an ideal time to try. I also can't pick up any known criminals amongst your recent associates."

Quite how she knows any of this isn't entirely clear.

"I would personally recommend you take the stairs in the future. It's much easier to be ambushed in enclosed spaces like this. Not to mention the risk of sabotage."
Harper Row "I can take the stairs... but that's a path of ambush itself, isn't it?" Harper replies to the suggestion first while holding the pizza boxes between her and the intense girl.

"So... you /are/ with Red Robin, right?" She follows up, repeating her earlier question.
Laura Kinney "It's more work to make a staircase plummet all the way down to the ground floor," Laura points out with a shrug. "Not impossible but anyone willing to go to that much trouble will just blow up the entire building. In a more modern building the elevators often have CCTV or monitoring systems which you will want to avoid."

Her head tilts to one side.

"I do not see anyone else here but us." Her hand tucks into her pocket and the elevator resumes moving. "If you're going to join the team you'll also need to work on discretion. If I had been intent on causing you harm your asking me about a known superhero would have tipped me off that you had information."

There's a sense that it's probably as close to a yes answer as X-23 will give.
Harper Row Harper nods at the advice. ("She's calling me an armature and she's not wrong,") she mutters to herself before saying, "I have a lot to learn, right, gothca." She pauses for a moment and then says, "After having another unexpected guest earlier in the week and a couple of invited guests on top of that recently... I'm a bit shaken," as an excuse that she doesn't seem to be totally accepting of herself based on her scent and blood pressure.
Laura Kinney Laura Kinney sniffs the air again. "Personally I maintain several safe houses in different cities and never stay in the same location for too long at a time. It makes it hard for anyone to track me down and surprise me." That and her policy of leaving deadly traps to catch out unexpected guests. "But I appreciate how family... your brother? Anyway I understand how family ties can make it hard to live like that."

She looks Harper up and down appraisingly. Checking her stance and build.

"Your confidence will improve after additional training. Which I am sure will be offered. And providing you make it through the checks I will also be happy to provide instruction." Although from the look of her X-23 isn't exactly built like a warrior. She could probably just about pass for a high school girl with the right costume.
Harper Row Harper manages to avoid having her face split in the broad smile that her scent and slight raise in temperature make clear to Laura's enhanced senses. Instead she nods as she says, "Yeah, brother. And thank you for the offer... I guess?"

She tries to glance at her watch but with the pizza boxes in her hands this is a failed attempt. "Speaking of my brother... he's expecting me back with these and... they're getting hot in my arms," she says before offering, "Want to come join us?"
Laura Kinney "It wouldn't be good for his safety to meet me," Laura points out with a shrug. "I'm currently wanted by some very dangerous people. So for operational security reasons I avoid interacting with civilians unless absolutely necessary."

She taps one of the buttons so the elevator will stop before Harpers floor.

"I wish you the best of luck with the..." She frowns. "Onboarding process? I am unsure what the socially acceptable term is. Enlistment perhaps... Anyway. I shall leave you to your pizza."
Harper Row "Either works in this situation... although the latter feels more appropriate for the circumstance," Harper says as she shifts her balance with the elevator resuming its motion.

Looking over at where the girl-in-black had been standing she sees empty space. Glancing up she finds the hatch is closed even. "I have /got/ to learn that trick!" she comments as the elevator comes to a stop at her floor.
