Elas is a member of the Atlantean noble family of House Athos. The Athos family made an alliance with another noble family of much higher station, House Talassar. As a child, Elas' family pledged him in marriage to the young Duchess Kalay Talassar. However, the duchess was killed under suspicious, mysterious circumstances prior to the arranged marriage. Concerned for Elas' life, his family secretly made arrangements with Happy Harbor High School to have him spend some time there learning about the surface world with the hopes that the tensions beneath the waves will eventually die down.
Timeline

Timeline:
* 2008: Elas becomes the firstborn child of the Anthos family, a noble family residing in the politically charged Atlantean city of Poseidonis.
* 2013: An alliance is forged between the Anthos family and a noble house of much higher station, the Talassar family. Although Elas is only five years old, his family pledges him in marriage to the young Duchess Kalay. Their wedding would be planned for years in the future, of course.
* 2020: Elas completes his primary education and begins his two years of compulsory military service.
* 2022: Elas is discharged from the military after successful completion of his compulsory service, and returns to full-time royal duties.
* 2024: Elas' wedding to the Duchess Kalay Talassar is scheduled. However, she dies under mysterious and suspicious circumstances. A full-scale investigation ensues that borders on a witch hunt. No suspect is ever formally named, though rumors about that she was murdered by a member of her own family as an honor killing to keep her from marrying below her station.
* 2024: Out of concern for Elas' safety, his family sends representatives to the surface world and strike an agreement with Happy Harbor High School that the young Atlantean noble will enroll in classes and live on campus. The ostensible reason is to prepare Elas for life in a modern noble family by giving him a broader experience than he would receive from an exclusively Atlantean education.

Duty:
Along with the privileges of being noble born come the responsibilities. Elas' sense of duty to the City of Poseidonis and the Kingdom of Atlantas is strong. His is a life of service.
Family Loyalty:
Elas is a devoted son and believes that the noble family he was born into has something to offer the citizens of Poseidonis. He does not have any inherent sense of superiority, but he does believe in the caste system and nobility.
Heart-Stricken:
Although Elas' betrothal to the Princess Kalay was a politically arranged one, he came to love the girl in his own way. He admired her devotion to family and duty, and he looked forward to marrying her and making a life together. When she was killed at so young an age, Elas did not -- and still does not -- know how to process that. It was the only paradigm he has ever known. And he misses her.
Kindhearted:
Elas is, quite simply, a nice guy. Unlike many in the Atlantean nobility, he doesn't crave power over others or temporal power. He just likes to get along.
Lost In a Crowd:
The young Atlantean noble doesn't perform at his social best in large groups. He prefers a small circle of trusted friends.

Elas served two years in the Atlantean military. He has adequate skills in hand-to-hand armed and unarmed fighting. He is far from being an expert, but he can contribute meaningfully in battle, particularly given his enhanced strength and agility.
Polyglot:
Elas was trained by his royal tutors in English, Atlantean, and both ancient and modern Greek. He is well-suited to linguistic learning and picks up new languages easily.
Social Grace:
Elas was born into a royal family. From a young age he was tutored in courtly graces and etiquette. He is capable of adapting to most social situations with ease.
Swimming & Diving:
Elas has been swimming since the literal moment of his birth. No human can even approach his skill with swimming and diving even on his worst day.

Dehydration and Heat:
At least once every 2-3 days Elas must submerge in water or he begins to become weakened and exhausted. That time is drastically reduced down to mere hours in extremely hot temperatures.
Family Obligations:
As a loyal and devoted member of a noble family, Elas is beholden to the clan. His actions reflect on the family, so he must always choose his actions and words carefully. Likewise, he is affected by the choices the family makes for better or for worse.
Hunted:
An assassin killed Elas' betrothed. Unbeknownst to him, the rumors that Kalay was murdered by certain factions of her own family as an honor killing are true! And if those same people discovered that Elas was living among land dwellers, they would order his death too.
Sensory Overload:
Elas' enhanced senses are evolved and adapted to the undersea environment. On the surface world, he can become overwhelmed by so many rapidly conflicting sounds and odors. Extremely bright lights can render Elas temporarily blind, and he is very vulnerable to hypersonic attacks.
