Profile
A Creature from the Industrial Revolution era, Frankenstein is the product of forbidden science and obscene magics. Created by stitching together the corpses of the deceased, and enlivened by the blood of a demon, he is an abomination who horrifies those who look upon him. Yet despite being repeatedly rejected by humanity, Frankenstein has sworn to serve as its protector from monsters worse than himself. He is currently single.
Timeline
Timeline:
1811 - Dr. Victor Frankenstein, in a state of feverish inspiration, stitches together pieces from multiple cadavers in an attempt to create life. His efforts are successful, owing to the application of a quantity of demon's blood and crude principles of galvanism. He recoils in horror when The Creature awakes, and abandons his creation.
1816 - After a life of rejection and loneliness, The Creature returns to his creator to demand the creation of a companion for himself. Victor Frankenstein begins the process, but ultimately refuses. The Creature swears revenge. Little do they both know that the material for this proposed Bride is acquired by a secretive organization.
1817 - The Creature kills Victor, and after recounting his tale to the captain of an exploratory ship, decides to immolate himself near the Arctic circle. He does not die, and undertakes a journey of over 10,000 miles, mostly walking along the ocean floor.
1859 - Now calling himself Eric Frankenstein, The Creature acquires the sword of the Archangel Michael in the lair of the Nameless Dread.
1870 - Frankenstein encounters the Circus of Maggots and prevents them from destroying an entire town. 'Frankenstein' comes to the attention of a secretive organization.
1943 - Frankenstein is used behind enemy lines on several missions during World War II.
1962 - Frankenstein kills the last known ogre in Northern Canada.
1975 - On a mission in Vietnam, Frankenstein is recruited by an operative of the organization that will one day become the Super Human Advanced Defense Executive.
2005 - After a period of hibernation beneath the ground, Frankenstein is awoken once again by demonic activity. He is collected by S.H.A.D.E., and subjected to several upgrades in an attempt to bring his capabilities into the modern era.
2022 - As one of S.H.A.D.E.'s top agents, Frankenstein is given command of a small team of specialists and fellow monsters. The Creature Commandos are tasked with the most dangerous missions, against horrors that humanity could not stand against alone.

Personality
Compassionate:
Having lived a very long, lonely life, Frankenstein could have easily been made cruel. Instead, he has grown kinder with age. He is strangely protective of a race that has mostly reacted to him with horror, and always seems ready to put his life on the line for people who would probably prefer to see him hunted down and exterminated. It would be an overstatement to call him a tender person, but Frankenstein is capable of displays of compassion that can be quite moving.
Curious:
From the moment of his awakening, Frankenstein has had a strong sense of curiosity. He can't help himself from wanting to learn more about the humans that he pretends to dislike. But this curiosity has caused him to travel the globe many times, having many adventures along the way. There's a certain restlessness to Frankenstein, caused as much by his desire to learn as it is by his feelings of alienation.
Direct:
There's usually not a lot of subtlety to Frank's interactions with other people. He is very blunt, perhaps overly so. It's not that he can't practice tact, rather he generally feels that it's a colossal waste of time. On the one hand, it doesn't help his already nonexistent popularity. But on the other, it tends to make meetings significantly shorter.
Ill-Tempered:
Though he is capable of practicing patience in pursuit of a goal, Frank's interactions with other people cause him great consternation. He is perpetually grumpy, and is more likely to respond to a question with a grunt than an actual answer. He's also a big fan of shouting, and seems to find it to be the most effective form of communication.
Solitary:
When Frankenstein was young, he craved acceptance from humanity. But decades of not receiving it made him bitter and solitary. He has long ago accepted the fact that he is a monster, and simply can not move around in society the way that a human could. Most days, he even believes that he prefers things that way. His idea of a weekend off looks something like hanging around in a dank basement, reading poetry by candlelight.
Stoic:
It is highly unlikely that one will ever hear Frankenstein complain. He has accepted his lot in life, and bears it with admirable grace. His greatest pleasures in life tend to come from accomplishment of a goal or a mission, and he prefers peaceful contemplation over entertainment. He has little use for whiners, and complaints of any sort are one of the surest ways to draw his ire.
Stubborn:
There are tried and true methods that have served Frankenstein well in the past. He's a highly intelligent, capable sort of person. Combine that with a certain amount of arrogance, and you have all the ingredients of an especially muleheaded individual. Frankenstein is someone who prefers his own counsel, and will stick with his plan until it finally works, even if it's the least efficient possible way to go about solving a particular problem. Did we mention that he's currently separated?
Violent:
There is no getting past it, Frankenstein is a man of strong violent urges. He is a barbarian at heart, happiest when he's in the middle of a savage rage and hacking something to pieces. Rumor has it, Frank was the original inspiration for the expression 'he woke up and chose violence', but has yet to receive any royalties.
Character Sheet
Powers
Breathless:
Frankenstein must fill his lungs with air in order to speak. However, he does not require air in order to live. Or, to remain undead, rather. He has walked across the floor of the ocean to get from one continent to another, and could spend time underwater or in another oxygen-free environment indefinitely.
Demon's Blood:
The catalyzing agent that caused a bunch of stitched-together corpses to awaken as an undead monster was the application of blood from the demon Melmoth. Frankenstein's blood would be fatal to just about any living creature, but the toxic sludge pumping through his veins is actually the source from which all of his supernatural abilities spring. It provides Frank with the ability to regenerate from most sorts of injuries, though it often takes long periods of time. This can be sped up by simply replacing the damaged organs or limbs. It also causes any new body parts that are grafted onto Frank to gradually adapt to become part of his body. Even if someone attached an elderly woman's arm, or a child's leg to his body, it would eventually start growing and turning green.
Durability:
Tougher than an unenhanced human, Frankenstein can soak up quite a bit of damage. It helps that he doesn't need most of his organs in order to survive. He can be harmed by conventional methods though, and can be taken down with the application of enough force, whether from bullets, blades, or even the fists of a skilled opponent.
Immortality:
Because Frankenstein is not truly alive, he also has a very hard time becoming truly dead. He does not age in any way that seems to be measurable. He could, however, be killed by the right application of violence. It would be extremely difficult to permanently kill Frank, however, as he can survive having most of his organs ripped out and frequently survives having limbs removed in an extremely gory fashion. He actually has extra organs packed into his torso for just that reason, and replacement limbs can be grafted on later.
S.h.a.d.e.net Implants:
There are various mechanical and computerized components grafted into Frankenstein's body these days. S.H.A.D.E. has basically treated him like a piece of equipment for years, and their scientists love to provide upgrades. He has access to S.H.A.D.E.'s database and communication systems through implants grafted directly to his brain, though these only work when he can get a decent signal. But the ability to access information about his target in real time while in the middle of battle provides all sorts of obvious advantages, and is ultimately worth the tradeoffs and the invasion of his privacy.
Strength:
Frankenstein is supernaturally strong, able to do things like pick up vehicles and toss them the length of several football fields. This is purely a side effect of the demonic blood coursing through his veins, as he doesn't really seem to spend any time in the gym.
Skills
Black Ops:
Frankenstein has served with various military organizations over the past two centuries. Some have used him purely as dumb muscle. But as the nature of warfare has evolved, Frank's skillset has gradually expanded. He possesses the skills of a modern special operative, and has undergone special agent training for S.H.A.D.E. Even if he were magically placed in a normal human body someday, Agent Frankenstein would be a highly effective black ops specialist.
Classical Education:
During the period when The Creature was created, certain types of education were considered highly desirable by the upper classes. Despite his complete lack of resources or social standing, Frankenstein nevertheless aspired to be a well-educated man. Voraciously consuming the available literature of the day, he learned more than most of the Oxford-educated nobility. He has a particular love for poetry, and frequently quotes from Milton, Keats, and Shelley. But the breadth of subjects that this seemingly brutal creature can engage with is truly impressive. He has even taught himself to read in multiple languages, specifically Latin, Greek, and French, as was fashionable back in his day. These days, he can still frequently be found with a book in his hands when they aren't holding a blade.
Demonology:
Agent Frankenstein is one of the world's foremost authorities on demonic entities. Much of his research has specifically been focused on ways to kill these creatures most effectively, but one would be surprised how many things can be picked up along the way. Of special interest to Frank is the creation and destruction of demonic hybrids, as he is one of these creatures himself, and tends to run into a whole bunch of him during an average working day. If you need a guy to help with the plan to destroy a Lovecraftian horror, lift a curse on an orphanage, or exorcise someone who spent too much time playing with a Ouija board, you could do worse than to call up Frankenstein.
Fighting:
To most people in positions of power, this is all that Frankenstein is really good for. Abnormally big and supernaturally strong, Frank is a natural front lines fighter. He has a broad knowledge of different styles of hand to hand combat, whether ancient or modern. But though he is highly skilled, he often wades into battle like a barbarian from fantasy stories, using his rage and toughness to devastating effect.
Intimidation:
Before he's even uttered a word, Frankenstein has usually had a powerful effect on both his enemies and his occasional coworkers. He's large, green, covered in stitches, and obviously Frankenstein. Add in his reputation and his penchant for violence, and most unenhanced types would rather avoid Frank if at all possible. It makes him an especially effective negotiator when one is not interested in actually doing any negotiating. Just send Frank in, let him go 'Hrrrrrrrn...', and watch a solid percentage of the opposing side simply turn tail and run.
Magic:
Though not a mystic himself, Frankenstein has long considered a grasp of magic to be part of a well-rounded education. He certainly should, as often as various mages have attempted to use him as a focal point of one of their doomsday spells, or as an ingredient in one of their potions. Frankenstein is not an effective caster of spells, but is able to create various charms, potions, and runes that can have a variety of effects. Most importantly, he can recognize the presence of magical interference and help the real mystics with preparing their rituals. Even if it just means that he's the one who gets sent shopping for eye of newt, or sent hunting for a dragon's heart.
Monster Hunting:
This has essentially been Frankenstein's primary trade for nearly two centuries. When evil strikes, Frankenstein meets it in the shadows with a blade in his hand and a grim smile upon his ugly face. But there's much more to his chosen profession than simply hacking things to pieces with an oversized broadsword. Frank can recognize virtually any sort of monster from its tracks, the wounds it leaves on its victims, or even the smell left behind. He knows their weaknesses, and how best to defend against their strengths. In some cases, he even knows which bars they hang out in.
Tactics:
Over the years, Frankenstein has gone from a grunt to a master tactician, befitting his role as one of S.H.A.D.E.'s top agents. Don't ask him who the top agent is, lest he get salty. Frank stays calm in a crisis, and can be looked to for leadership during a battle. More importantly, he always has a plan. His study of tactics began with the classics, and he has kept abreast of modern developments. He is most effective as a field leader, but this is due as much to personal preferences as anything else. If needed, he could hang back and coordinate strategies from the rear, but it's really not Frankenstein's style.
Weaponry:
Evildoers throughout the past two centuries have learned to fear the blade of Frankenstein. But though he is known primarily as a master swordsman, Frank is also an expert marksman. He has used everything over the years from muskets to machine guns, and has had to gain familiarity with many exotic sorts of weaponry in his role as S.H.A.D.E.'s favorite wrecking ball. Whether mystical in nature of so scientifically advanced that it appears fictional, Frankenstein is probably able to operate it and absolutely ruin someone's day with it.
Resources
Archangel's Sword:
The broadsword that Frankenstein carries with him virtually everywhere is an ancient relic of incalculable value. According to Frankenstein, it used to belong to the Archangel Michael, though it doesn't come with a certificate of authenticity. Regardless, it is clearly constructed using otherwordly methods, and is especially effective against demons, monsters, and the undead. It also can be used to hack apart all manner of other things, like any other non-magical sword could.
Extra Pieces:
S.H.A.D.E. keeps a bunch of extra parts for Frankenstein lying around. It really speeds up the process of getting Frank back into action when his limbs inevitably get torn off or his torso gets blown apart by yet another explosion. These limbs and organs are prepared in advance with treatment's of Frankenstein's own blood, so they can be attached immediately and require no lengthy periods of adaptation.
S.h.a.d.e.:
The Super Human Advanced Defense Executive is a highly secretive black ops group that operates globally under the purview of an extremely limited group of world leaders. It's primary mission: to protect the planet from threats that conventional military could not handle. They are one of the go to organizations to eliminate threats that go bump in the night, and receive many billions of dollars worth of funding. Frankenstein is one of their top agents, and gains access to their advanced technology and resources, along with a certain level of protection from legal troubles. He is a citizen of no country, and does not truly exist in any sort of public records. But he is able to operate nearly everywhere, and perform the function that he now believes he was created to perform: Protecting humanity from the sorts of horrors who look like him.
Steam Gun:
Another ancient relic at this point, Frankenstein's Steam Gun was actually a piece of highly-advanced technology when he originally received it. Even today it is a very effective weapon, though it doesn't possess any qualities that couldn't be replicated or even improved upon by modern technology. The primary advantage of the steam gun is that it fires very large rounds, which can be packed with very nasty things. It also blows very large holes in most things, which has quite a few tactical applications.
Weaknesses
Alone:
To the surprise of everyone, men constructed from a bunch of stitched-together corpses and animated by demon's blood don't get invited to a lot of parties. For more than two hundred years, Frankenstein has been a solitary creature, whose attempts at socialization and relationship building have all resulted in either disappointment or tragedy. He sticks to himself for the most part, integrating with others only haltingly and reluctantly. And he tries to believe that he prefers it that way.
Appearance:
There really isn't any disguising what Frankenstein is: He's a giant, green man covered in stitches with bolts sticking out of his head. This makes him one of the least effective candidates for any sort of mission requiring an agent who can blend in, outside of maybe a Halloween party. Frank's appearance also greatly limits his opportunities for social interaction, since he really can't walk into your average bar or shopping mall without causing a commotion and terrifying the public. He tries to avoid pitchfork mobs as often as he can, but those seem to be the people who find him most interesting.
Daddy Issues:
The original wound. When Frankenstein's opened for the first time, the very first thing that he saw was his creator's face as he recoiled in horror. The man that he considers his 'father' rejected him, and abandoned him, starting a cycle of violence so tragic that it would make for a great Gothic novel. He has never had a figure in his life that he would consider to be a mother. This has left The Creature with a need that will ultimately go unfulfilled no matter how many centuries pass. He might disagree, but it leaves Frank more easily manipulated by certain types of authority figures, particularly ones with a parental aura.
Demonic Nature:
There are certain spells and items that work especially well on demons and their kind. As a creature created from the blood of a demonic being, Frankenstein has no business being around any of that sort of magic. Mystic types can often sense his demonic nature, and certain types of holy places could either be very uncomfortable for Frank, or possibly lethal. His hybrid physiology can cause all sorts of unexpected results, however, and most of them are pretty inconvenient for Frank, at the least.
Fire, Bad!:
In order to truly kill Frankenstein, he basically needs to be reduced to very small pieces. For example, being burned to ash. Fire is one of the most effective ways to damage him, and it would be an understatement to say that Frank is... not a fan of it. It is one of the things that he fears the most, and possibly the best way to make him temporarily freeze with indecision.
Hacking Backdoor:
Adding computer chips to Frankenstein's brain seemed like a great idea to S.H.A.D.E. It allows them to feed him information directly and even provides certain types of killswitch commands and might possibly allow for remote takeover of some of Frank's mental functions. It would be a shame if the right sort of hacker ever figured out a way past those firewalls.
