Date of Scene: | 20 June 2024 |
Location: | 3B - Alexander's Greenwich Loft |
Synopsis: | I usually troll finishing descriptors, but this is easily one of my favorite scenes that I have had on this mush. Two oddballs identify with each other and try to establish common ground. |
Cast of Characters: | Alexander Aaron, Minoke
|
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Yes. He did invite Minoke over to hang out. Yes. It was kind of random. She had been super hospitable when he was in need, and he wanted to return the favor. Not really thinking it through he set out a modest snack spread, a few drink options. He buzzed her up from the lobby when she came over, but he was in the hall waving her to the right door when she got to his floor. "Over here."
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke got an invitation from Alexander. The man she helped with a probem in the past - some extradimensional imp that she helped send away. And an intersting weapon, but that's beside the point. Strange. But... being appreciated is never a bad thing. She takes the elevator up and goes into his apartment. "Thank you for inviting me over - I was surprised to hear from you," she finally states.
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
"You shouldn't be." he admitted, as if his courtesy was the least he could do as he ushered her in. It was a nice place but decorated modestly. Couch opposite a TV, a small round table filled with college texts and current work, probably laughable to someone like Minoke; quaint human learning. "You get asked out much?" he wondered.
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke nods slowly as she looks around. "I don't. I... just try to keep quiet. I wish I could blend in better so I could assimilate more. But sometimes I get treated like a mutant... or... those who recognize who I resemble, is shunned. But I just... do my thing. Make jewelry, explore, go back to my home. It's a nice place here."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
"Don't feel like you need to meet some kind of standard with me." the Olympian assured her, but failed to elaborate. He folded his hands in front of him for a moment, looking to the three-eyed girl at a momentary loss of what exactly to say next. "I mean, you didn't ask me, but I think your kind of exotic." said the boy with subtly horrific eyes. A little too big for him, and they gave the impression that something was inside him looking out at you. "In a pretty way." he tried to compliment.
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke blinks, looking at you, tilting her head, not sure what to make of the 'exotic' comment, but smiles when you called her pretty. "Thank you. I'm glad to hear that. Just... someone from my homeworld does terrible things..." She then smiles softly. "I'm sure you have someone from... Olympia, you call it, that isn't a very nice person?" She hmmmmms softly. "I do appreciate the company. I am supposed to learn more about this world's people after all..."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
"That aptly describes most of them." he admitted, quickly moving on. "Sometimes I feel like I am still learning what people are like, I guess that's a little hard to believe. I had some difficult early influences." he offered a seat on the couch and took the on the other side so as to create an appropriate distance for a conversation. "How did you come to be here, why are you here on Earth?"
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke smiles. "I was sent on a ship from Planet Colu. My role, I suppose, is a xenoanthropologist. To study alien cultures. Though I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to be - I hit an ion storm and it badly damaged my ship and my own heart. I crashed here in an emergency. I met a lot of nice people. And some that aren't so nice but... that should be the case with any civilization." She then states, "Did your... hitchhiker... come back? The one who wasn't really in phase?"
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander Aaron shook his head, "The situation is very fluid. Some extraplanar forces decided I was weak, and that my...position in the pantheon was exploitable. I was able to find their loophole and ungap it, and so that avenue is no longer open to them. There have been other developments since. My maternal lineage is in question, I guess that would ordinarily not be a big deal, and sounds dramatic of me to speak on, but in this case I guess it matters." he glanced at the books on the table, "At any rate, its ruining my school work, and...I think I just failed my first class since I started college. Doesn't feel great."
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke just blinks. "That sounds... awkward. I wish there was something I can do, but... your magic-type stuff is difficult for me to comprehend. If your little... friend... wasn't vulnerable to electricity, I wouldn't be sure what to do."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
"I would hate to burden you with that sort of drama." he said with some resolution, "Though its always nice to have company in difficult times, if I have learned something anthropologically speaking its that 'If you have people, you can accomplish most anything'." he paused there to take a long breath. "So, you are marooned here. And your damaged too? Are you...dying?"
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke shakes her head. "I don't think so. Just..." She frowns. "It's like I have a bit of brain damage, is the organic equivalent. Some things I can't do very well, like shapeshift. Sometimes I get my words garbled but I try really REALLY hard not to do that for it's... a bit embarrasing..." She smiles faintly. "I'm seeing if I can find someone who can help me but it's... complicated. I'm not like any Terran technology."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander Aaron nodded, offering a look of sympathy, "There is this cool human writer, he once said 'Any technology...insuffi...sufficiently advanced...ah right. Any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. Asimov....no no Arther C. Clarke I think. Doesn't matter." he gave her a long look over, "I wish I could help, the power afforded me is a terrible one, its necessary that it exists, its part of the slow rise of humanity by the grace of evolutionary forces, but its a help to no one. No one would ever ask for it."
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke just blinks. "I suppose... I am magic then." She smiles. "Well, there's a few people who could understand how I work. But it's complicated." She then murmurs, " What... is your power again? I don't think I got a proper idea of it..."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
"Each of us is granted dominion over something. My father is the domain of war, so he is Ares the God of War." he hesitated, a long and uncomfortable silence. "My domain is that of Panic and Dread. Fear." he admitted, "But perhaps only as it applies to human beings. Maybe you're completely immune to it?" he wondered hopefully, what a dream that would be.
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke blinks. "I don't know what you're talking about. I had a run-in with a telepath who culdn't sense me at all. Maybe such things don't work on an artificial life-form. So, your mere presence makes people afraid, no matter what you do? That sounds... lonely."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander admitted, "It actually gets worse the more afraid they are, I grow stronger, cause more of it, and grow stronger still. One of my neighbors was having a nightmare the other night and..." he blew air over his lip into his own nose. "Tell me more about yourself, are you like...carbon based life or something else?"
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke grins widely. "I am not organic at all." She murmurs, "You must've remembered how interested I was in your sword. There's a reason for that. Other than my heart-core, I am made, almost entirely, of titanium-formed nanites. I am, essentially, compmletely made of metal. I suppose 'robot' would be a term that could be used, but 'android' is a more fitting word."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander made a note to comeback to that topic. "That sword comes from a truly terrible lineage, that its made of metal...even an interesting metal, is harshly secondary to what it represents and what it has done. What it was intended to do." he glanced into the middle distance, perhaps peering across the planar divide at the sword called Grasscutter, but it soon left his expression. "That's interesting, why have you described yourself in such a feminine ideal? I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you're impossibly attractive and I can't imagine you have any use for the attention. Is this to fit in better, does it work?"
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke blinks. "This is the default form programmed in. I think they made me to be the Coluan ideal of beauty. They programmed me a femimine mindset." She smiles softly. "If you were going to create a life, wouldn't you want to do an excellent job?" she asks. "I... nobody's really described me as 'beautiful' or 'attractive'... before..." She pulls out a cellphone, and with a stylus turns on the camera and takes a picture of herself to look at it.
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander Aaron slides over to look at the screen and points out some of her lines, "You see the contrast between your waist and your hips, and how your thighs taper to your knees, but then your calves curve out to create another taper? You have a long and slender neck too. It would be easier to see from another angle."
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke blinks softly as she looks you over. "I never really studied beauty... I'll take your word for it. I believe there's a saying: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." She then murmurs, "So - is there a way to test to see if... your 'fear' powers work on me? I'd be happy to be a 'safe space' that can't be bothered by them if possible..."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander Aaron glanced to you and met eyes, "Well, I think also the fact that you don't understand your beauty is part of it too. But that part I can't explain as well. And you could be right, maybe you aren't applicable to some universal form, and its just me who thinks it so. I think that's the danger of solipsism, which...now that I think about it, makes me feel more human." he chewed on his lip. "Yeah, I think you make me feel...human."
When she asked about fear, the bubble bursting in his head was almost audible. "Maybe we just pretend it doesn't exist until it happens."
- Minoke has posed:
Minoke nods slowly. "That seems to be fair..." she muses. "I... am glad that I can help you feel more human. You... make _me_ feel more human too, I guess..." She smiles softly. "So, a god and an alien android make each other feel more human. How strange."
- Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander Aaron nodded slowly, keeping eye contact. "Then maybe God and Android become meta characteristics, signifiers of another thing. That ultimately we are just people."
