Apokalips is one of a pair of binary planets trapped in an artificially created demesne within the shadow of the Demiurge. It is notably the realm ruled by the Divergent known as Darkseid, one of the most formidable and dangerous enemies to humanity and the larger universe.

Apokalips is occupied largely by Darkseid's legions of genetically-engineered parademons. Few life forms find the atmosphere conducive to occupation or survival. Foundries and manufactoriums dot the landscape and have been readying Darkseid's arsenal for a conquest of the larger universe. Darkseid is a tyrant and a despot who rules with an iron fist.

Like New Genesis, Apokalips was created as a controlled lab experiment to test the viability of wildcard genetic evolution versus controlled breeding and engineering. New Genesis was populated by the Celestials from the genetic stock of their Homo Immortalis. Aside from the parademons and slave castes, most of the ruling class of Apokalips are considered Divergent wildcard evolutions.

Intense gravimetric lensing around these two worlds makes it impossible to achieve normal spaceflight. The only means of exiting or accessing this artificial demesne is via boomtube technology, or magic. This has mercifully kept Darkseid from launching his legions en masse into the rest of Yggdrasil.
