Poseidonis was a former seat of science and learning for ancient Atlantis. When the cataclysm called Ragnarok destroyed the world, the magi-scholars of Poseidonis had virtually no time to react. Using their ancient magics they implemented a highly controlled 'evolution' of their people by triggering their latent metagene and giving them evolutionary means of survival.
Poseidonis was once a major coastal city and otherwise might have survived the cataclysm, but the harsh ice age drove the people deeper into the more temperate waters just off the shore.
