The Black are a cabal of ancient Atlanteans sworn to guard the border of ancient R'lyeh and prevent the ancient monster C'thulu from being awakened.
The Black are granted immortality as long as they remain near R'lyeh. Over the millennia, their descendants have taken on the mantle to replace those ancient members who were killed or driven insane by their proximity to the Sunken City. It is rare for a member of The Black to leave their ancestral home for more than a brief sojourn.
