A girl from another time, Amara comes from a place where Rome isn't history but real, and now. To her, the modern world is a dream she's still learning to cope with, and trying to learn all the new social cues.

Timeline

Timeline:
*2001 Amara is born to Lucius Antonius Aquilla, a Senator in Nova Roma, a hidden city founded by Selene Galileo in the Amazon rain forest in an imitation of Rome some time after she had been driven from the Roman Empire.

*2002-2015 Amara learns the ways of her people; learning literature, art, fighting and swordsmanship, and math.

*2015 Unrest in the city starts to rise. A portion of the people want to turn the city from a Repulic into an Imperial State. A dark cult is sacrificing young girls to their living god. Amara's father fights against the cult. Fearing for his daughter, he sends her to live with friends in the deep jungle.

*2015-2017 Amara, with dyed hair and skin, hides among the villagers; learning to cook, hunt, track, lay traps, and survive in the wild. She gets small bits of info on her family from time to time, but they do not visit for fear of leading the cult to her.

*2018 Her world gets turned upside as outsiders, Roberto and the New Mutants, find Nova Roma. Members of the cult attack them. Amara gets captured and taken to be sacrificed to the goddess, who turns out to be Selene, wife of Senator Marcus Domitius Gallio, the leader of the Imperial faction.

Selene tells Amara that she's Amara's ancestor, then starts to drain her. Selene gets attacked, and Amara falls into a pit of lava. Her own mutant powers activate and she helps the New Mutants to defeat Selene.

Fearing reprisal and still trying to gain control, Amara's father tells Amara to follow the outsiders.

*2018-2020 Amara joins Xavier's School and tries to close her educational gap. While her writing and math are at the right level, her knowledge of technology is far behind others, while also learning to control her powers.

Personality

Caring:
Amara is a very caring young woman. She is always willing to assist others or even put their own interests in front of hers. This has been something she has been working on as her royal upbringing has taught her to think herself above others at times.

Formal:
Even though it's been a few years, it's hard for Amara to break her formal manners and speech from time to time. She occasionally will fall back into the old ways as a noblewoman from an ancient family.

Moody:
Amara has been known to be quite moody at times. Over-dramatic? Perhaps a bit. Yet, she has tried to keep these mood swings in check as they have an adverse effect on her powers.

Out of Time:
Amara is a girl out of time, anachronistic, trying to catch up to the modern world that passed her home by centuries ago. While she can still be starry-eyed at times, she's working on being a little more urbane these days.

Self-Pressure:
Amara tends to put a lot of pressure on herself to succeed and be the best in everything she does. She sometimes gets discouraged when she does not live up to her own or others' expectations.

Geo-Thermokinesis:
Amara can pull up magma from the ground, cause mini-volcanoes, or melt solid earth and rock into magma. She can manipulate it, craft it, forming shapes and even launching projectiles. This manifests in a number of different ways, including:

* Magma Form - The most common of her powers, Amara can take on a form of molten magma. While in this form, her body shines with intense light and gives off tremendous heat. Even her hair seems to glow with a fiery light. The heat generated by this form can reach temperatures between 1300 and 2200 Farenheit, meaning she can melt projectiles and weapons before they ever reach her, but also making it dangerous for anyone without a high heat resistance/immunity to get near her. In this form she is more durable, more powerful, and allows her to manipulate blinding light and molten magma.

Healing - While she has a direct connection to the ground, Magma has greatly enhanced healing. Beyond that, changing into her magma form will cause wounds to close and heal quickly, remaining healed even after to returns to her human form.

Heat/Fire Immunity - Due to her elemental connection to magma and volcanoes, Amara is immune to heat and flame in her magma form, and is highly resistant even in her human form. She's been seen to walk across pools of magma even without transforming.

Flight - While she is capable of flight, her control is rudimentary in the air. She is seeking a tutor!

Geokinesis:
Magma has the power to tap into the Earth's crust and to control the lava below it. She can affect earth on a local scale, only a few city blocks, but she can cause from minor to major earthquakes. Larger ones require concentration and time. She can also sense and prevent earthquakes. The only exception is when she loses control of her emotions.

Pyrokinesis:
While she doesn't like to use it this is another aspect of her power and something she can access in her human form without transforming. She produces heat or even flames while they don't have any magma and aren't as hot she doesn't like to use them because they lack the impact the lava has. Even out of her magma form she's shown extreme resistance to the heat and gases normally found around valcanos.

Combat:
Amara has been trained since she was little in the way of the sword and unarmed combat, as was a custom for a member of her house in Nova Roma. It's a skill she's continued to practice as a way to remember who she is and where she comes from.

History:
History, especially that of ancient Rome, isn't so much history for her.. it was her life. In fact, Latin is her native language. It makes her quite conversant on ancient history, especially from the era of Rome's Empire.

Survival:
Thanks in large part to the years she spent living with a native Amazonian tribe, she is quite versed in all manner of survival. Amara is a capable hunter, fisher, and gatherer. She can even weave and craft crude weapons, if needed!

Modernization:
After years spent at Xavier's, Amara is no longer quite so behind the times. She has a passing familiarity with modern technology and will not pause to marvel at things like bidets or cars.

Nova Roma:
Should she return to the jungle of Brazil, she would have full access to her family estate and the soldiers that belong to Nova Roma. Amara can ask her father, one of the controlling members of the city, for additional aid.

Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters:
As a student, Amara has access to the same resources as any other. This is in addition to any benefits she gains from any teams she might join or be part of.

Weaknesses

Emotion:
Amara's powers are directly connected to her emotional state. Things like anger or hatred can intensify her powers, but also make them unpredictable. Emotions like sadness or guilt can diminish or even block her powers. The reverse is also true, however, and great joy or peace can give her greater control and refinement over her powers.

Human:
While in human form, Amara has limited access to her powers. While she can conjure flame and create small, localized quakes, and even heal to a limited degree, she is still quite human and squishy.
