Barn Storming
Date of Scene: 09 May 2022
Location: Carol Danver's Rural House
Synopsis: Diana visits Carol at her family homestead. They find the biplane in the barn and share some drinks.
Cast of Characters: Carol Danvers, Diana Prince

Carol Danvers has posed:
The text messages exchanged had been brief. Diana Prince letting Carol know that she'd retrieved a certain item that had made its way to Earth, which the rightful owners on another planet had wanted back. Carol had agreed to deliver the item if Diana would be able to drop it by.

Diana had seen the rural house in upstate New York previously, on Carol's first trip back to one of her family's childhood homes. Carol had very few memories of the place thanks to the combination of Rogue and the mind-washing of the Kree. Spending time cleaning the lakeside house up had slowly drawn a few memories back to the surface.

Now it is a little warmer out than the first time Diana was here. The screens on the window have been replaced, and the leaves are out of the gutters. There are still signs of a quite a bit needing to be done though, even from the outside. Carol is standing outside with a lawn mower that she has half-disassembled as if it isn't working properly. The grass is definitely in need of a mowing.

Diana Prince has posed:
Wonder Woman appears out of no where in a field not too far from where Carol is working. She just steps right out of the air. Carol's senses likely picked up on the presence of the Invisible Jet arriving quietly. Diana didn't want to disturb any of Carol's neighbors up here, so the Jet was brought in on stealth.

In her Eagle Armor, Diana just steps through the opening in the fence around the field and starts to walk toward Carol. her long dark hair flowing off to her left shoulder in the warm early May wind.

In her left hand, Diana carries the item in question. It's a purple helmet, with a crystsal star embedded in the forehead plating. She carries it casually toward the other Avenger.

A smile forms on Diana's lips as she gets closer, her eyes cast around the property. "Feeling more at home?" Diana asks when within reasonable ear shot.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol Danvers straightens from where she was crouched on one knee, working on the mower. She grabs a rag and stands up, wiping her hands clean before taking a step or two to greet Diana. "It's coming along slowly," Carol says, turning to glance at the house. "Have quite a bit left to do. Squeaky board on the stairs. Broken one on the porch. Chimney needs a cleaning. A photon blast or two opened it up enough to use, but I need to get in there with something for a more complete job," she says.

The purple helmet is given a closer look. "Hope it wasn't too difficult to recover," she says. "My understanding is it's more ceremonial than anything. The Hatfields and the McCoys of the planet. But it will mean a lot to them to get back. And never hurts to rack up a few brownie points," she says as she reaches out to offer to take it.

A glance is given towards the field where the Invisible Jet touched down. "Don't suppose you have a grass-mowing setting?" she asks with a head nod in that direction. "Had a neighbor press this one on me, I think as a subtle suggestion the grass needed mowing. Though he was right about not having used it in awhile. Seals are shot." Carol's eyes go towards the barn. "Might be we've got one though, I haven't even made it out to the barn yet. Focused on the house so far."

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana raises the helmet up and offers it to Carol. She gives it another look before smiling. "I can understand. It is very beautiful, though ... not my color." She gives a sparkle of a grin then before her hand goes back down to her side. A look is cast toward the barn in question, then down to the mower.

"Well..." Diana starts, as her eyes go back to Carol. "The Jet is powered by an alien technology that allows it to take the form of whatever I command it too, within the limits of its particle production. So... yes, it could mow your yard for you." She shows her grin again as a hand goes up to hold her loose hair back from her face as she looks over her shoulder toward where the Jet is.

"I imagine it could do quite a good job of it too... I had never even considered such a thing."

A light, melodic, laugh comes from the Princess then as she looks back to Carol.

"Might take away some of the charm of having a lovely antique like this to do the work though..." She states with a motion of her right hand down to the old mower.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol takes the helmet, hefting it and looking at it more closely. She holds it up alongside her head as if so Diana could imagine what it would look like on her, though doesn't put the artifact on. "Oh, I wouldn't actually deign to ask you to use it like that," she says with a warm chuckle. "And there is something nice to doing things yourself, isn't there? It's been kind of therapeutic, pulling up boards and replacing them. Think I'm going to peel off some wallpaper from one of the rooms. Though that can wait," she says.

The blond woman says, "Let me set this inside a moment." She heads into the house and then returns without the helmet. Carol motions towards the barn as if for Diana to join her. "Might as well go take a look what's in there. If nothing else maybe I can combine some parts to get this one running again, if there is a lawn mower in there," she says.

If Diana joins her, Carol begins walking out towards the garage along the dirt section of driveway. "How are things going with your spaceport? Sorry I wasn't able to make the planning session for it. Got called off planet," she says.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana just gives the other woman a warm smile as she watches her hold the helmet up like that. She remains outside while Carol runs it inside. When Carol returns, Diana isn't far from the barn in fact, she's looking around at the construction of it when the other rejoins her. "Of course." She says softly then. "Now I'm curious. I have always liked this type of setting in this country. It ... reminds me of a simpler time. As cliche as that is to say."

"And the Starport is nearly ready to be opened. We are making final touches to construction on some of the key areas, but it is coming along nicely. You'd be a very happy sight for everyone to see there too, when you are able..."

She follows Carol toward the barn, looking rather out of place here in this setting, as tall as she is, donning that regal gladiator armor of hers, with her golden lasso looped and coiled at her right hip.

Carol Danvers has posed:
"It is nice here," Carol agrees. "The air is so much nicer than in the city. And it just has its own pace to it. Been into town twice, flew in. I really need to get something to drive there. Very quaint little place, kind of like stepping back in time. No big chains yet, outside of an A&W's. Though there's some talk of getting a SupraMart in the area. Not everyone's a fan from the earful I got," she says.

The barn is faded red, hasn't had a coat of paint in probably a decade or more. A few of the boards could use replacing as well. Carol goes over to the door and gives it a try. It sticks, but soon relents before a little application of extra-human strength.

Carol pulls the door open, revealing the inside. The large space has an assortment of things you'd expect in a country-ish setting. There's a tractor with a lot of rust on it, and various tools hanging along one wall. A ladder goes up to a loft. There's a few things covered by drop cloths, one that has a tire sticking out from beneath it that is clearly an old truck of some sort.

But what probably draws the eye more than anything, is an old biplane. It's in rough shape, at the back of the barn where it faces another door. Carol stops there in the entrance, eyebrows going up a bit as she sees the old airplane.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana doesn't move to help with the door, she knows Carol is far more than capable to unstick it. She has a little smile show at the effort it takes too. When the door opens up, and the ambient light from outside floods in to the old dusty barn, Diana lets her brown eyes roam around the contents found within. "Oh my..." She says softly as she starts to walk toward the now wide-open building.

It has a dusty, grainy smell to its interior, and the atmosphere within seems so calm and serene. "This is perfect..." The Princess adds just a few steps inside the barn now.

Her eyes go to the covered truck, then to the tractor before they fall upon the plane. She grins at this sight, as its quite the sight.

Her stare dances over to where Carol is. "I can see your love of flying had a starting point here, perhaps?" She asks fondly for the other woman.

Carol Danvers has posed:
A few sunbeams shine in through holes in the walls, or just where the boards aren't quite as close as they might otherwise be. The lighting adds to that sense of almost stepping back in time as they move further into the barn.

"It did," Carol says in something near to a murmur, as if her thoughts are distracted by the plane itself. "I'm remembering something," she says as she walks over towards it, pausing a moment beside the pickup truck, but then continuing on after giving the covered vehicle only a brief glance.

"My brother. I remember my older brother taking me up in it," Carol says. "Teaching me the controls," she adds as she checks out the wing before stepping up onto it to look into the cockpit. "Sat in front of him between his legs, both of us with our hands on the stick," she says, reaching out to touch the control stick.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana is beside the truck when Carol starts to reflect upon the memory coming back to her. The dark haired woman looks over to the blonde and just stares at her as the memory comes out.

She appears beside Carol then at the plane, and looks inside it too. "Sounds exciting." She says quietly then with a quick smile chasing her words. Her eyes go over to Carol then as her leather wrapped hands go to rest on the edge of the plane.

"A plane like this was the very first thing I saw from the outside world. It broke the barrier of Themyscira, and crashed in the waters off the shoreline." She shares her memory as well, speaking softly.

"The man flying it, was the one who lead me to leave the island for the first time. To fight in the war."

A quick, small, smile comes across the Princess' lips. After a second she adds...

"You should restore it, and take it up again, where it belongs. In the sky."

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol's eyes are on the plane at first, her thought whirring as the fleeting memories play through her mind's eye. Though as it becomes clear Diana is talking about a formative moment for herself as well, Carol's attention turns towards the Themysciran princess fully.

The blond's head tilts to the side slightly, blue eyes focused on Diana's expression. That smile brings a small grin to Carol's lips as well. "Why do I get the sense there's more to the story?" she asks, flashing that warm grin back towards Diana.

Carol looks to the plane again, briefly. A deep breath is taken. It's going to take her some time to sort through her thoughts. But later. "I've got a nice bottle of Asgardian mead in the house," she says. "Up for telling me more of that story over a glass or two?" she offers.

A glance back to the plane. "Yes, I think I'm definitely going to have to restore it," she agrees.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana puts her hands up on the edge of the pilot's cockpit. She peers down inside it as she hears Carol's words beside her. She looks back then at the offer of a drink for more of the story. This garners another grin from the Themysciran warrior woman.

"There most certainly is more to tell of it." She says back before pursing her lips and looking once more around the plane, then turning to look around the barn.

"This is a wonderful place. I am glad that you have come back to it. I think it will help you a lot." She tells the blonde with another soft, but warm, smile. "Maybe you will have some young ones some day to share memories with here." She states while meandering back through the middle of the barn toward the main entrance again.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol turns and begins walking back through the barn with Diana. "Little ones?" she says with a light laugh. "Maybe. My life has been so strange I haven't really come close to settling down like that," she says.

She pauses beside the truck, pulling up the cover to get a better look at what is beneath. It isn't just a decade or two old from when her family last lived here. It's a truck that looks like it dates back to the 1950s, with the rounded roof and lines compared to modern vehicles. "This probably doesn't run either," she says. "Will be fun to get it going again too. And I bet that tractor has a mowing attachment somewhere in there," Carol comments, motioning towards where a few attachments for it can be seen.

The cover is dropped back into place as Carol leads the way back to the house. "So, were you aware what the world was like out there, before you saw the plane? Or was that your first time seeing something fly?" she inquires, looking over to the other woman as they cross the distance to the house, and Carol holds the door open for Diana.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana's eyes go to the truck too as it's investigated a bit. "I wish I could volunteer some help, but restoring vehicles is a skillset that I am very much lacking in." She notes with a sly grin then before the cover is dropped back in place.

As they start to walk together again, the question has her thinking back, not that it's hard for her... her memory works in a way that makes 100 years ago feel like five minutes ago.

"To be honest, when I heard the sound of the motor, I thought that it was one of the giant hornets that live in the mountain region on the island. I was confused what it was doing out in the far ocean though. But, when I saw it.. the plane, that is, I was even more confused by what I was looking at. It was clearly a machine, but unlike anything I had ever seen before."

She helps Carol close the barn back up then as they progress back out to the exterior grounds.

"Steve was the pilot, Captain Trevor. He was in trouble. The engine was burned out from damage, and he was being pursued by foreign forces in patrol boats. I didn't know any of it either. I just saw someone in periol, and rushed to help. It all just cascaded from there, as things do..."

The tall Themysciran woman then looks around at the property again. "Maybe just start with a couple dogs? Golden retrievers are great, if I were to choose."

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol follows Diana into the house, closing the screen door but leaving the wooden door open to let some breeze in. The interior has definitely seen a lot of work. The dust is gone and some of the wood looks as if it has been polished. Though there are plenty of signs where more work is needed.

Leading the way to the living room that adjoins the kitchen, Carol motions to the couch as she goes to get the drinks. "I don't know how Goose would take to dogs, actually. I don't think you've met him yet, have you?" she asks. "He's back at the mansion," she says. "Though I'd love to have a couple of dogs, yes."

Carol gets two glasses and the bottle which is definitely not a design you'd find in a liquor store. She moves over to take a seat and pour them both a healthy measure of the strong alcohol. "So was he someone that you got to know well? This Steve Trevor?" she asks Diana. "Was he the reason you went out into the world then?" she asks, knowing the woman first appeared during World War I, if not necessarily all of the details.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana ends up sitting on the edge of the sofa with the lasso going to rest on her lap. She looks around the interior of the farmhouse's living room as Carol fetches the drinks. "You have a Goose?" She asks, misunderstanding, clearly! "Well that should fit in nicely here, I would think. Unless it is spoiled by living at the Avengers home." The Princess grins before accepting the drink with a soft 'Thank you.' spoken softly.

It is then that she leans back on the sofa and relaxes a bit more before taking a sip.

When she lowers the glass, she is smiling at the question. "I left Themyscira because I believed it was the duty of the Amazons to stop wars across the world. I believed that the information that Captain Trevor gave to us, was a clear sign of Ares influencing the people of Earth to fight one another to the brink of self annihilation..."

Another sip is taken then before she lowers the glass down to rest atop her lap amongst the coils of the golden rope.

"And though, in the end, I was right... to a degree, it just turned out to be far more complicated than that." She says, her eyes going over to Carol. "As things often have a way of becoming."

A little grin creeps across her lips then. "Captain Trevor was just a perk of the adventure. Sadly one that did not last nearly as long as I might have wished it would..."

And now Diana is picturing Donna, and Cassie shouting 'No, no! Don't let her fall back in to the Steve trap!'

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol rests her arm along the back of the couch, resting her head on her hand as she holds her glass with the other hand. "I have someone... something... named Goose, though he isn't a goose. He's a flerken. Which looks like a cat. But it's an alien creature actually. And one that New York City probably would not give me a license for if they knew about him. Always been sweet as could be towards me though. Doesn't always take towards Nick Fury the best though," she comments.

The woman listens to Diana's story, taking small sips of the powerful drink. Carol has quite a tolerance compared to a normal human, though perhaps not quite that of a Themysciran or Asgardian. So she paces herself with the beverage as she listens.

"Unfortunately people don't need too much goading to be nasty to each other," she says with a soft sigh. "Well, he sounds like he was something. And a pilot, which is of course a big red flag," says the former Air Force pilot with a big grin. "I can't say that I have the number of years behind me that you do. But I do kind of wonder about that for myself. I'm about twenty years older than I look, and I have no idea how long-lived I'm going to be after everything that's happened to me," Carol muses quietly, blue eyes falling to her glass for a moment of introspection as she speaks.

Diana Prince has posed:
The explanation about Goose has Diana gently nodding as she shows an expression of understanding her error. The mention of its true nature has her showing a little grin. "I am sure you will keep it safe." She quietly offers back before she has to laugh softly at the bit about Steve, and his pilot ability. "Yes. He was... one of the most remarkable people I have ever met, and, well... he is the reason I am who I am today. Or at least a large part of it."

Another sip of her drink is had as Diana turns a bit toward Carol then when she speaks of her age. She tilts her head ever-so-slightly toward her right shoulder then as if inspecting the blonde's face more closely. "Your abilities are restoring your health to an optimal level. I would imagine that means that you will be around for a very long time. Something that I have grown to really hold precious since leaving an island filled with ageless role models that I grew up around. Now... out here... I have had so many friends, and loved ones, that I have had to watch grow old, and pass on. It is nothing I can openly complain about enduring though, as I am sure they were not pleased about watching me not age." She says that last part with a visible smirk to her visage.

"You will do great with the time that you have, Carol. I am sure of it. You are strong, and smart. You will have a story of legend, of this I am quite certain."

Carol Danvers has posed:
The confidence shown her by Diana Prince puts a grateful smile on Carol's face. "I can't imagine it's easy, seeing others age," she agrees. "I don't really have a lot of memories about my father's death. Though, from what I know of matters that one might be more of a blessing than not," she says with a tiny shake of her head. Carol takes a larger than intended sip of the mead as her thoughts are troubled by the topic shift she caused.

Though she moves on from that rather than have the conversation linger there. "Do you ever consider going back there. To live again, I mean? Or do you feel like you're firmly entrenched in our part of the world now?" Carol asks.

The blond woman shifts, turning to sit on her side more and draw her legs up as she faces Diana more fully. That seems to make her realize Diana is costume, the armor probably not quite as comfortable as normal clothes. "Hey, if you'd like to stick around for awhile, I could go grab some clothes if you wanted to change and relax. Like you said, it's a nice place to get away for awhile from the city. I don't know if you fish, but there's some nice bluegill and trout in the lake out back. Has saved me from a trip to the grocery store more than once already," she says.

Diana Prince has posed:
After lowering the glass down from another sip, Diana shows a quick smile to the other's words. "I could stay for a bit. It has been ages since I did any fishing..." She glances down at the lasso on her lap, and then laughs softly. "But yes, clearly I came prepared." She notes before looking back up to Carol.

"I am entrenched, I suppose. Really, to me though, I want to see a Themyscira that is open to public travel. This is something that my sisters, and I, have been pushing our Queen, and the more conservative members of our people to be more lenient toward. Now that we travel back and forth more regularly, it rarely has me ever feeling truly homesick, like the century that I was away did. We might even setup a teleportation device some time in the coming days. That technology is a 'game changer', as they say."

Diana tips her glass toward Carol then. "You should come visit the island sometime soon. I think you would fit in quite well there. It might be a nice alternative way for you to unwind also."

Carol Danvers has posed:
"A trip to Paradise Island?" Carol asks, using the less formal name for it that people have adopted since learning it exists. "Sign me up. I hear it's a thing of beauty," she says to Diana, lifting her glass to touch it to Diana's before taking a sip.

"I'd like to think that your people are immune from the sort of... you know," Carol says, giving a wave of her hand in the direction of 'out there'. "Politics and such things as we're cursed with. But I suppose in truth, people are people. Even though I'll probably wager your history is a little less chaotic than the rest of the world's."

Carol takes another sip of her drink, and then tops off both glasses. "Let me get you something," she says, rising and setting her glass down on the coffee table. "You've got a few inches on me but I think I can make something work," she says before heading out of the room and upstairs. She calls down, "By the way, if you do have any interest in learning how to fiddle with the truck or plane engine, I'd be happy to show you."

Diana Prince has posed:
A reserved smile crosses Diana's lips at the talk of her people being away from such petty things as political debates. "I wish that were so. We have senators who speak on behalf of the various... guilds, around the island. This leads to squabbles about being taken with greater priority than they perceive they are being given. It ... may not be as large scale as you find here at say... the United Nations, but it is still down those very same... disappointing lines, or pathways."

AFter her glass is topped off, Diana moves to remove the leather harness from her shoulders. She drapes it over a chair then beside the sofa and rises up to walk around the living room again, inspecting the various displayed items around.

After Carol calls down about learning how to work on old fashioned vehicles, Diana grins. "I may very well take you up on that. Though, be advised... I am not allowed anywhere near the kitchen at the Embassy. I have gained a very untrue--" It's entirely true. "--reputation of being less than a good culinary expert. If that is anything like repairing a truck..."

Carol Danvers has posed:
"Not quite the same. Though I'm a... well, passable enough cook, that if we catch some fish I can do a decent job with them," Carol calls down. She appears not long after, that squeaky board on the stairs making itself known as she steps on it. "I think these should fit," she says, offering Diana a skirt, and a blouse which is loose enough on her that it should work for the more statuesque Themysciran.

Carol retrieves her glass. "There is a sense of satisfaction in getting a motor to run again. To hear it purr and know you... well, took care of it. In a sense," she says with a smile. "I got a degree in aeronautical engineering before everything went all," Carol says, letting a photonic glow encase her hands briefly to indicate what she means at the end. "I like to dig into the quinjet engines now and then when I have an opportunity. Though the mansion mechanics like to take care of such things. They aren't going to tell me no, though," she adds with a warm chuckle.

Another sip of the strong Asgardian mead is taken. "Mmm. Not as much of a mead fan in general, but when it's got this kind of kick, I'm happy," she says.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana sets her glass down when the clothing is brought down to her. She regards it all with a big smile before draping it over her forearm, covered in one of her armored bracers.

"You are very accomplished too, for such a young age." The Princess says. "And these are lovely, they will do just fine."

She starts to walk around the living room furnishings toward where the restroom is located.

"And... do not tell Thor that you hold his people's mead in high regard. He will declare it better than anyuthing from Themyscira, again." She says before going inside the restroom to make the clothing swap.

"Maybe this farm life is the beginning of a new chapter for you." She says out through the partially open door. "Maybe you will be hosting rodeos and horse riding lessons out here within the year." She adds, being playful of course as she swaps out for the more rural attire.
