Those that can't teach
Date of Scene: 04 November 2022
Location: Rural Delaware
Synopsis: Daisy tries to train with Kora, but there's a lot of complexity bundled up in that little mess of Sunshine...
Cast of Characters: Kora Johnson, Daisy Johnson

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora turns around slowly out at the empty field. This is about as safe as one could get if things start going wrong. Things will go wrong. Kora knows this. Jiaying knows this. Gordon knows this. Afterlife knows this. Daisy - Daisy seems to have a strange unwavering faith in herself that she can help.

She raises an eyebrow at her sister and states, "This is a really bad idea." Wearing the SHIELD jumpsuit; dark blues and blacks. No SHIELD badge on her shoulder though; just the bare velcro where a badge can be slapped.

But even if she thinks it's a bad idea, she's not going to deny her sister. She's trying. She wants to help. May be she does know things that her mother didn't, doesn't. And she has been reading that book on particle physics that Jane gave her.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
One good thing about Delaware? Empty fields! Yep, it's no coincidence that Daisy chose to come to the Playground for now with the rest of the Warriors. It's away from most everywhere and it provides optimal training grounds for those that need aid in getting their powers under control.

"Practice makes perfect." She tells Kora, also dressed in a jumpsuit. Unlike her sister though she has the SHIELD logo on her own uniform. "Now, first..., why don't you tell me what you know about your power and how it works?" because nothing like starting at the beginning.

It's not as if Daisy considers herself a good teacher but she has faith Kora will be able to breakthrough past these limitations. And Daisy will be there to help her, in the good or bad moments. It's what sisters do after all, no matter how much of a bad idea it might be.

"And why do you think it's a bad idea?"

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora raises an eyebrow. Practice makes perfect~ a small little smirk and she sighs, "You couldn't even make your powers work. I heard all the scuttlebutt about you needing special gauntlets so you didn't break your arms. What makes you think I'll be any different? we're Johnsons - we're cursed."

She nibbles on her bottom lip a bit and says, "But okay. Fine. There's an energy that flows within me that I can unleash. It blasts through things, burns things. It disrupts other energies if I focus and tune it. And then, inevitably, it gets a mind of its own and goes crazy."

Her eyes light up a moment with a thought. Thank you Jane! "Like a runaway nuclear reaction."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"The difference is that we have the ability to overcome our curses." Daisy lifts her arms up to Kora, "Do you see me wearing gauntlets now?" she shakes her head. "It took both training but also figuring out new ways to use my powers. Besides, it's not like the gauntlets stopped me from breaking my arms..., but that's a story for another time.."

She makes her way closer, then circles around Kora, thoughtful, "A mind of it's own?" she mmms at the mention of a nuclear reaction. She isn't exactly a physicist but she can get the gist of it.

"Lets try it out then." She focuses, creating a vibrational shield that begins to expand around the two sisters. "Begin calling out your powers. And don't be scared, I will contain it."

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora looks at Daisy with a touch of doubt. "You shouldn't be in this bubble with me if things go wrong Daisy. I really don't think I could take evaporating you in to nothingness." There's a seriousness in her eyes when she says that.

But just as easily, her eyes begin to glow; a bright white with a touch of yellow to them. Burning like the sun. "Sometimes it goes haywire fast, sometimes it takes a while. For a bit I thought I was getting the hang of it - but no, I was just getting lucky. Until someone I cared about got unlucky."

Hence the cold reaction at Afterlife by the long timers. She lets out a sigh. Certainly 'full pelt' is something she's practiced plenty. It's the finer controls, tuning the energy, that she rarely gets to experiment with.

She furrows her eyebrows, "Where's your diviner?" Because how is Daisy meant to understand the powers if she can't see the readouts from the diviner. Does she even know how to read one of those?

Daisy Johnson has posed:
It's hard to trust your powers when you know you can hurt people by not controlling them properly. Daisy had learned that the hard way too even if she hadn't killed anyone. But she had hurt other Agents back then. Even Bobbi, "Maybe just trust me then." that she won't allow herself be evaporated, "Because now that I have found you I am not going anywhere." there's a fierce determination there to her tone and while she may not have the genius brain of many others in SHIELD she certainly has the heart. And right there and then it seems she has full confidence on Kora.

The eyes begin to glow and she focuses, those vibrational waves weaving around them both as she lets her own senses expand. To get in tune with the song of the universe. And also get in tune with Kora's own power within her core. Feeling the maelstrom there, the raw power of it all.

"Why would I need a diviner?" She asks with a quirked brow. It's not like Jia had told her much about those besides them allowing people to show they were Inhuman. And killing those that weren't..

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora shuts her eyes and the glow continues through her eyelids regardless. She draws in a breath and nods her head slowly. If she was going to trust anyone, it'd have to be her sister. She has never betrayed her and she is family. She's been there for her since the moment they found each other. Even before she knew they were sisters.

Kora explains, though, "The diviner. It tells those who divine powers what an Inhumans gift is. But they didn't understand what it said for me. Words they'd never seen before. Mom has lots of big books about reading the diviners messages." Had. They were destroyed when Afterlife fell.

Kora holds out her hands and they begin to glow too. Little swirls of bright energy, so bright it's hard to look at. Kora seems to have no issue looking at it. That raw power is intense and Kora has been taught how she's meant to control it. She's doing it right now, keeping it contained. The air around it is wibbling from the raw power of it all.

"It's behaving today.. so far," she says and her attention is on her hands as she channels her strange gift.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy also shuts her eyes. It's not like she needs them now, using her powers to *feel* what's around her. And she can certainly feel that rise of intensity on Kora's powers, the burning that consumes all it touches. She does hear to what Kora has to say about the diviners and lets out a 'Uh.', a beat, "Then we should try to understand what it means. A lot of the old texts were destroyed but ..., there's still a temple in Nepal. Maybe we should go up there with one and see if we can find a good translation." it's a long shot, she knows it. But might as well go back to the old temple again. There were still things to uncover from it, she felt it.

She feels the power brewing from Kora's hands now, nodding and then suggesting. "Try working on what you have brought out now. Tuning with it, getting used to the power and controlling it. We keep it slow for now."

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora hmms and nods her head. "A temple?," she asks. That's news to her. Afterlife always had a lot of secrets though so she's not too surprised. Even growing up there she didn't know everything that was going on. "I suppose it's worth a try."

She opens her eyes again and twirls her hands about a little just to watch the burning patterns it creates. One small joy with her overtly destructive ability. She rather resents it. Her power just obliterates things - nothing else. She's just a weapon. At least, that's what she thinks.

Her energy starts to flare out wildly suddenly, rapidly, growing in intensity and Kora tightens up and tries to pull it back. It refuses. It's starting that chain reaction she spoke of. Like it has a mind of its own...

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"It's up on the mountain from the--" Daisy pauses on that explanation when she feels it. The twirling pattern that is spiraling out of control. With a mind of it's own. Almost as if it was alive. No, it feels like *life* itself. Her head turns one way, then the other, eyes still close.

She focuses, studying that energy, the patterns, the vibrations. It's a wild thing, beautiful, flaring in unexpected ways. She exhales and her own powers come to bear on it, vibrations easing them. Or containing it in ways that it just won't spiral out of control. Not that fast at least but it may still get there..

A bead of sweat forms on her forehead. "It doesn't want to go back. But .., it's not destruction, it's life.." she says of Kora's power.

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora presses her teeth together and starts to strain as she tries to balance a jenga tower that's already falling. She is working hard trying to pull it back together, stop it redoubling upon itself, echoing off of itself. A chain reaction is starting despite her efforts. For every string she settles another dances too close to the edge.

"It's .. not life .. it's .. destruction and death!" Her emotions aren't helping but that's all she's ever known from it. Destruction and death. This is why it is a curse to her.

"You can't stop it Daisy... just.. protect yourself," she says and presses her hands out and away from her, letting go of the struggle. Burning beams of energy blast from her hands and scorch the ground, evaporating dust in to smoke and causing the air to catch on fire.

Kora lets out a cry and shuts her eyes, not wanting to see what's going to happen next. But swirls of energy orbit and twist about the two intense beams; they too just as deadly cutting through the air - like the sun letting off an angry solar flare.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
It had taken Daisy a long time to realize that her power wasn't made to only hurt, or that it wasn't just this cool quaking ability. There was a lot more underneath it, the song of the universe, an understanding of what surrounds her to a degree that she never thought was possible.

But in true Johnson stubborn fashion it had taken being at her lowest to truly realize it.

And now her sister was going through a similar ordeal, not accepting what her powers could be. "Forget what you think it is and feel the power, feel the potential..." yet she starts feeling that angry energy burning. Unrestrained. She only has time to cross her arms in front of her to conjure a powerful vibrational barrier before those beams cross through. It's enough to create a reaction that sends her flying back across the field, having her skid across the ground in a painful manner a few meters after.

Good thing she brought the armored uniform this time around.

Kora Johnson has posed:
"Daisy!," Kora cries out as she sees her sister go flying. The brunt of her energy didn't hit her but it looked like a rough tumble. She is stuck there, though, unleashing the energy within her until it is done, until it is safe once more. It's getting hot and the radiological alarms are no doubt singing in the base below.

She squeezes her hands shut and as the intensely lowers her ability to restrain it rises. She makes fists her her hands and scrunches of her face, stopping the flow. The glow from her eyes fades and she drops to her knees and begins to cry.

"I.. I told you. I can't control it. I've tried. I've really tried," Kora sobs and alls she can think of is how she probably just hurt her sister. It's all happening again, just like back in Afterlife.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Getting up after a moment there on the ground Daisy rolls her neck. Well, that wasn't so bad. She can still feel those energies flowing but a touch later they are gone. And Kora is down on the ground. She rushes over.

"I never said it was going to be easy." There's Daisy again, her tone even.

She extends her hand to her sister. "That's why we keep going."

Daisy is standing right in front of kneeling Kora now, looking down at her and smiling faintly.

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora wipes at her tears and takes a moment to catch her breath. Ashamed to have shown herself like this she starts to get angry again. An emotionally painful bat away of Daisy's hand, she rises back on her own and turns away from her sister.

"You're just going to get hurt. Badly. Or worse. Just like before," she says. "And it doesn't help when you tell me my powers are life. That's.. that's just cruel Daisy." And she was starting to get her hopes up too. A trip to Nepal seems like suicide now. Even if there is a mystical temple hidden in the mountains.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"I wasn't lying, or saying some kind of platitude." Is Daisy's reply back at her sister, a small frown rising on her expression, watching her turn her back on her. She folds her arms together. "It's what I felt when I was feeling that energy flow."

"Do you really think I would lie to you about this?" She asks Kora directly, walking to stand next to her but she doesn't offer her her hand this time.

"I am not going to get hurt."

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora tightens her hands in to fists and frowns down at the ground. "I.. I don't know. No one ever told me the truth before I'm just not used to." She shakes her head and takes a step away. "That's not even true I. I think I never.. argh! this is all so hard and confusing."

She looks back to Daisy now, her eyes red from the tears. "One day I was given my gift and everything looked promising. Then I couldn't control it and no one could understand what the diviner was saying -- some whispered that it was a mistake for me to have been given the gift."

She folds her arms across her chest defensively, "Then everyone died. You, mom, dad. Everyone. Gone. Then people started getting hurt and they blamed me - said I wasn't trying hard enough. Someone died because of me Daisy. A good friend.. and they locked me away for it."

She throws up her arms, "It's hard to let go of all of this. All of this because of my gift. Because of HYDRA. It's a lot and I ... I just don't know how to deal with it. Okay?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy watches that shift on Kora, the way she wraps her hands defensively. Like someone who has been told all her life she wasn't enough. She doesn't interrupt while Kora goes through that process, letting her vent that all out until she reaches over to place one hand on her shoulder.

"There's a difference now though. You won't have to deal with it alone."

And for Daisy that makes all the difference. She would be here for her sister.

"We need to find more about your power, because it's clear there is much that is unknown. We will talk with mother about it, but I think she will agree with our trip to Nepal." though the cougars probably won't.

Kora Johnson has posed:
Kora rubs her arms and looks at her sister, then down at the ground. There's a small nod. She's giving in to the logic and authority of her sister. She has that same manner mother always had. So, she turns and heads back toward the secret entrance back in to the Playground. Being outside in the sunshine doesn't feel like much fun anymore.
