Getting Involved
Date of Scene: 13 May 2023
Location: Starpower Publishing House, Morningside Heights, New York
Synopsis: Kate pitches Jon on joining the Young Avengers and help with team organization. He has the league connection. He has a lot of drive with his heart in the right place. Seems like a good call.
Cast of Characters: Kate Bishop, Jon Kent

Kate Bishop has posed:
A renovated but rarely used publishing house. Well at least on the inside it is very renovated. Outside it still looks rather dilapidated and overgrown.

The main room of the publishing house has been cleaned, swept, and painted a nice muted blue that lends the place extra light. The fluorescent are gone and a number of lamps are strategically placed to give plenty of illumination. There is also a large scale entertainment system in the middle of the far wall. Scattered around that side of the room is a variety of seating options, couch, bunch of chairs. Another part of the large open space has been cordoned off to be a kitchen and eating area. A workout area. There must be rooms on the other floors above this common area one would imagine.

Kate is sitting on the kitchen island counter, a large Starkbucks coffee in one hand as she scrolls through her phone with the other hand. No one else is in this odd building right now, but she did invite Jon to this address to talk about the YA Project.

Jon Kent has posed:
*THUD!*

Superboy opens the door after the security system no doubt alerts Kate to his presence. He was wearing his suit, blue and red with the crest of El at the center of his chest in a familiar 'S' shield. A brilliant red cape hanging from his shoulders. His blue eyes spot Kate immediately and he smiles at her.

"Hey Kate. Sorry I'm late, I had to punch Metallo."

He takes a look around the place with a soft whistle. "Nice place. Quiet and unsuspecting." He looks back at Kate. "How're you?"

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate flicks her phone, checks the exterior, no one is loitering wondering why Superboy came inside. The tower is just so much more public, this place just hasn't gone public yet. Still it will so it probably doesn't matter right.

She tucks her phone away intgo a pocket in her vest. "Yeah we haven't put a big ol' A on the roof like some people.... so right now it is kind of on the downlow. I imagine it can't stay that way, but we should probably use the roof entrance or be a bit sneaky until we figure out protocols." not upset, honestly she just sounds thoughtful.

"I'm good, weekends are my no school days which is infinitely easier to be me on ... barring family bullshit. How about you Supes... isn't Metallo the metal guy with the badness for a power core?"

Jon Kent has posed:
"Maybe one day. Tgouhh I don't know if Mr. Stark will give us a giant place like that. I think this should be a bit more...casual and subtle, by comparison. Let them think the Avengers are the big dogs and the bad guys won't know what hit them when we show up, or something." Superboy lifts his shoulders in a shrug.

He winces. "Sorry if my arrival draws attention."

"Is family being hard right now? How's school going?" Jon was still trying to figure out if he even wanted to go to college. He's leaning towards 'yes' though. He has the brains and the recommendations, it's just up to him to pull the trigger or not.

"Kryptonite, yeah...hurts real bad. I hit him from a distance to dent his power core container shut, so I was able to do something then. It was really hard though."

The shadow of Superman ever looms.

Kate Bishop has posed:
"I mean.... we don't need Stark's money. We got money. What we may need is to pull strings at the League... and Titans... and Avengers for tech upgrades." she sips her coffee and then smiles amused. "It's okay. No one noticed... I just think we will be reinforcing the roof entrance a bit and there is a parking garage people can use to come in too. Just a bit more subtle."

"My dad is always a pain in the ass... and my avoidant ass has spent the last year not looking into some bad memories the wood of lost memories brought up in wonderland because... I just can't." she sighs. Then indicates. "Not sure if we ever went over it in the Tower... public.. Hawkeye... around the Titans though everyone knows I'm Kate Bishop... dad is Derrick Bishop. The Bishop Publushing guy..." honestly like the Marvel Rupert Murdoch really.

"So there are tons of ... uh expectations from family I have to deal with and duck... which is why I am not public right now.... just a pain..." she pauses a beat "School is great though."

She gestures to the fridge "There are a ton of nonperishable stuff and drinks, help yourself. Dealing wiht Metallo sounds like a hard pain in the butt.." she looks and then sighs at the room.

"So there are.. like a ton of kid heroes in New York. Teens.. twenty somethings.. they all fall under the Avenger and League level of power and radar or ... adultness... so Chavez, Donna, and I thought about.. what like a New York team, Young Avengers was the code name... which we could use to give them somewhere to belong if the Titans weren't the right fit. Avengers and Titan sponsored though to give some legitimacy."

Jon Kent has posed:
"That's true."

Jon crosses his arms over his chest. "I could ask Batman. But I know he's a bit more...stingy with where Justice League resources go to. I think he'd be open to it." He looks up then. "I agree. Maybe we could have someone smart install like...facial recognition or a handprint scanner." He hums softly, but he hears that Kate's father is a pain in the ass and he seems to frown deeply at that. "I'm sorry...if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here for you."

He knows she probably has an entire support group on speed dial if she really needed it, but maybe it means something. Who knows. "Yeah...being rich is hard." He nods to her. "But it's nice to meet you, Kate. Officially, anyway. I'm Jon Kent."

He offers her a hand, being playful, for a handshake. Since their true names were both revealed and it could be like starting fresh.

"Hey thanks. Have any orange juice?" Because vitamins are great! "Oh he is. He's given Superman plenty of troble...no sense why he wouldn't knock me down a peg for kicks and giggles." He sighs softly, feeling al ittle defeated, like his dad would've cleaned this guy's clock /way/ faster or something.

Then he's being given the pitch. "Young Avengers....I like it. Kinda like the next generation." Jon suggests. "I think it's a great idea. Sponsorship is tricky, but it'd help get the word and the name out."

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate chuckles and leans to extend and shake the hand. "I don't ever press anyone on the secret ID for the record, everyone has reasons. I just decided it was impossible since I was mostly living in the Tower with a fake condo nearby on the Island for Kate Bishop while she attends school at Metro U." she leans back "Good to meet you Jon."

"Probably but it probably isn't fresh pulped or anything." she gestures to the fridge though. "It's like ... some people swing by and crash as needed like the Spider adjacents and Billy but I really haven't been doing the recruit thing .. or much of a leader thing with life being so madhouse." she frowns, personal failing.

"That was Chavez's idea.. she wanted my help as the face since Old Man Hawkeye gave me the name and I have Avenger Connections.. and the sponsorship connections is more so if DEI or some law enforcement starts coming down on us we can say we have sponsors... for those of us not affiliated already with a more well known team."

Jon Kent has posed:
"Me neither. But it helps to establish trust at times." Jon suggests to Kate with a big smile on his face, warm and brilliant. "I was thinking of attending Metro U...either that or try to get into New York." He remarks with some mild skepticism and uncertainty.

"Likewise, Kate."

He realizes he's shaken her hand for too long and he releases it. "I understand that." He walks towards the fridge and pulls out the Orange Juice and pours himself a glass. "Want some? And I don't think that's a failure on your part. It might be wise to establish a second, maybe a third if we want to have a Trinity, that you can trust to help you with this when you can't find time. Life is important..it can't end because you're a hero."

"Hey, it makes sense. You're a great choice too. That way we're not vigilantes...that would be an issue."

Kate Bishop has posed:
She shakes her starkbucks cup, checking its level. "I'm good still" she decides and sips the caffeinated beverage. She burns it at all ends really, school, family, hero time, now talking about helping another team while being one of the unofficial leaders of the Titans too. No wonder she has a lot of reward points at the coffee chain.

"Like the League yeah, which is why when you talked about wanting to help I thought it might be a good idea. I've got Avengers ties, you have League ties, and we both have Titans ties. Most of the people who have joined the YA experiment have been vigilantes, like the spider crew, and they are big damn heroes but thanks to JJR they are reviled in the news media which sucks. I really do wonder sometimes why that dude is such a jerk."

She shifts back to something Jon said earlier. "I think you could get into either school if you wanted to. Maybe not any program without the right grades.. but you have enough connections that general admisssions wouldn't be a problem."

Jon Kent has posed:
"Sounds good."

He puts the OJ away and takes a sip of his orange juice, nice and slow to enjoy the taste of it. "Ah." He says in satisfaction. "Also, has anyone told you you have your fingers in a lot of pies? Beginning to think I need to convince you to take a vacation." He winks softly, and he listened.

"I like the idea. Three people, each with similar and different ties, strengths, and influences, could lead the team effectively and tackle different matters. If we have a lot of vigilantes, we can legitimize them and put critics like Jameson to silence. Hopefully."

"You're very sweet to me, Kate. I think I would just do general admission...I don't think I'm so smart as to tackle a honors program or something."

Kate Bishop has posed:
"You. Donna. Caitlin have all mentioned vacations now." she considers "Vic one time. That is pretty much it. The rest would be throwing rocks in glass houses or are so ADHD they haven't put together how busy I am." she pops her neck. "Also I have to do this now and get in as much as I can."

    Okay that sounded too morbid.

"Ach... I'm not dying to be clear. I just... I'm human. I'm not a meta. I'm not a mutant. I'm not an alien. I will hit a point where I can't parkour off a building while shooting arrows into alien invaders." a shrug.

"Like I said, general admissions isn't too hard , it isn't MIT or Harvard you are shooting for. What degree you thinking about... and who could we wrangle as a third.. not like the bats are anything other than vigilantes..."

Jon Kent has posed:
"Then maybe it's time to listen - just for a day, even."

Jon chuckles a little bit then. "I understand. I don't know how to take breaks either. Always something else to do right?" Jon empathizes and sympathizes with Hawkeye, humming.

"I get it. We all have a timer. Nothing truly lasts forever...but that's why we focus on the little things: Without them, the big things don't matter. Even if you don't start know, just...eventually?"

"I was thinking of going into journalism actually." Jon suggests. "Maybe work at the Planet one day." As for the third? "Hmm...I don't know. Someone we can trust. Maybe someone who can communicate and be respected by the mutant community, so they are represented too."

Kate Bishop has posed:
"Oh right, we talked about that at the pizza joint. Terry was trying to give you pointers from his short career in journalism." she thinks about it. "At least if you get shot as much as he did... you won't keep ending up in the ER like him."

"Also I doubt you will have as much bad luck as he seemed to have being a reporter.. it was pretty epic honestly." she tosses her empty cup now into the garbage with, absolute perfect aim. Swish. Maybe she should join the University basketball team.

"Which is what I do... the focus thing.. which is helping people and my found family." she gives a bit of a gesture around here. "It isn't wealthy heiress things." amusement. "As for the mutants... it is a good idea, but it definitely wouldn't connect us with the authorities or a team that could be talked about on the level. Still a good idea from a community standpoint. I'm not really hooked into that sphere of people tho.. not sure who we would even ask."

Jon Kent has posed:
"Yeah..."

Jon rubs the back of his neck then. "Honestly, I don't know if I'll be any good at it. I just think the pen is just as mighty as the sword and people deserve to be represented by more than capes."

"But if I get shot, well....Boy if Steel and all that. Can't be at the level of Big Blue yet, but I try to honor the legacy." He watches her toss the cup into the trash. "Nice, Hawkeye." Jon compliments her. "So do you just never miss?"

"Sometimes we don't need connections to authorities. Sometimes we need to represent people who feel under represented. And it could help give mutants good representation to limit the fear given to them. I have no idea who to ask." He rubs his chin. "...Do we know anyone good at magic?"

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate fishes out a nickle from her pocket, turns it over rolling it between her fingers, and then snaps her fingers and the coin launches towards the starbucks cup at the top of the trash. It slices a nickle shaped (edge though not round) into it.

Nothing about it was super speed or strength, just precision and accuracy.

"I miss sometimes... but I am really good at the thing I do I guess. Lots of practice and natural talent." she hops down and goes to check the fridge and fishes out an energy drink with no artifical sugars or real sugars, no calorie just zoom juice.

"Raven. Though I won't ask her about her opinions of magical folks. Mutant does sound like a real good option.... we should ask around... I think Tommy may be a mutant and he is one of the people who had talked about being on the team..."

Jon Kent has posed:
Jon watches it in slow motion almost. He tracks the nickel with ease, watching it as it sails through the air to slice through the Starbucks cup that she was drinking out of.

"Wow. If I tried that, it'd just go through the wall. Terrible, I'm just terrible at that stuff." He has eyeball accuracy, but fine motor control? Only in control his strength. "You should teach me how to better at that sometime, if you might like." He suggests and requests.

"She may be quite helpful. Tommy? I can't say I've met him. But if he has a good set of skills, good connections, and works well with others? I think he's worth the chance."

Kate Bishop has posed:
She snorts "Way to rub in the super strength Jon." teasing though, she doesn't seem actually offended by and body language as she cracks open the energy drink.

"I can definitely teach you how to fight better in general, it is useful to know all the various techniques even if you have powers in my experience. Which is why I run a lot of the danger room training for the Titans. We can use it with you as well.... it works for Donna and Caitlins training. Hard light is fascinating stuff."

"Raven... is not to be bothered ninety nine percent of the time. We could ask Donna to ask her" then nods. "We can talk to Tommy too sure."

Jon Kent has posed:
Jon looks panicked!

"Oh, I'm so so sorry. I really didn't mean to hurt your feelings at all..." Superboy /immediately/ tries to help remedy the situation and help Kate feel better, but alas!

Ah, she's teasing him.

"I'd love to learn from you. There's always something to be taught, you know?" Jon smiles big and wide. "Plus, you know, it'd be nice to be able to throw a punch. Someone as strong as me or stronger is liable to show up. I'd love to be able to close that gap."

A pause. "Does that mean I call you sensei now?"

"Cool. Maybe if we ask her nicely?"

Kate Bishop has posed:
She laughs when it takes a moment for Jon to clock the teasing. "Okay then, we will do some time in the danger room and get you up to speed on combat, tactics, and fighting without needing your super strength as a crutch."

"Also nope, call me Kate or Hawkeye." she stretches and hops off the counter. "We will have to go ot the tower for training in the danger room."

Jon Kent has posed:
"Sounds like a great plan."

Because Superboy wants to avoiding using his natural abilities as a crutch. It takes great care to be a Kryptonian. Now? With the opportunity to train? Maybd he can be more.

"I like Kate better." He smiles at her. "Done deal! Following you. Just uh...no Kryptonite, okay?"
