The Cat Burglar... No A Different One
Date of Scene: 02 August 2023
Location: Gotham Central Business District
Synopsis: Nightwing and Batgirl investigate a burglary at the home of one of Harvey Dent's campaign managers.
Cast of Characters: Stephanie Brown, Dick Grayson

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Batgirl repels down the side of the high rise apartment building. Free falling head first, she gradually slows her descent as she reaches the little ledge that runs along beneath the windows of the 27th floor.

The ledge isn't much, and she keeps her line hooked into her utility belt as Batgirl's feet alight on it. "Hmm," she murmurs to herself, holding the line as she crouches down to study the ledge closely for anything out of the ordinary. She moves slowly, heading towards the double windows of a ritzy apartment. One with a gorgeous view, that costs more in a month's rent than the places Stephanie grew up would cost in a year.

She looks over to the window she suspects was the entry point of the burglar who robbed the place. It wasn't so much the jewels and other expensive goods they got away with, as the evidence their apartment's computer was accessed too. And lists of political fundraisers for District Attorney Harvey Dent downloaded. The apartment belonging to someone high up in Harvy's campaign.

Dick Grayson has posed:
Nightwing descends on the other side of the window, also peering inside before clicking his mask over to magnification to sweep the ledge and walls for any sign of anchor holes, scratches, anything that might point out a way the burglar had to break in through a window high above the street.

<< I'm guessing it was probably done exactly the way we are, unless one of the Spiders has moved to Gotham and turned to crime. >>

He locks the line at it's current position and stands on the side of the building, his back to the street below. His vision still in magnification mode, he scans over the walls above, seeing if he can spot anything out of the ordinary that might give a clue to how this one was pulled off.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
<< Almost feel like they are trespassing on our turf. The hanging around on walls I mean. Not the burglarly. >>

Batgirl leans way out, her feet on the ledge but the line supporting her. "What's the black streak down there?" she comments aloud. She stares at the building below and then walks down vertically to a point about 15 feet down. She lowers herself down further and looks close. After a few moments of study, she pulls out a sample bag from her utility belt, and scrapes a little of the substance off.

Nightwing might spot another dark mark on the lighter surface of the building a little above the window in question.

Dick Grayson has posed:
Focusing on the mark Batgirl pointed out for a moment, he then turns to look up the building, then reels in line as he walks up the side of the building to what he's spotted.

<< Got one up here too, I'll take a sample and see if it's the same substance. >>

Fitting action to words, he also collects some material from the mark, then slides the vial into a pouch on his belt before going back down to the window.

<< So did the guy have an alarm system? >>he asks as he examines the window frame. << Not that it would stop a pro, and this high up, it's pretty certain we're dealing with a pro. >>

Stephanie Brown has posed:
<< Nothing on the window no. Just the door as far as perimeter goes. And then there is a motion sensor in the next room and a heat sensor in this one. It would not notice the window opening. But would pick up a body without some other precautions. >>

Batgirl studies the area around the mark and then makes her way up to the window itself. She begins looking it over very closely for any signs of a forced entry. "The window itself isn't even made to open," she says as she peers at it closely When she gets around to the top of the window she says, "The frame here looks like it's been sealed over with something. All the way across the top. Maybe cut through and then slid the glass pane up and held it in place then?"

Dick Grayson has posed:
<< It's possible, but would take some work. Cutting this kind of glass is a lot harder than movies show, and then to slide it up they'd have to get it past the top of the frame. I wonder if they took the whole pane inside with them. Mythbusters showed that holding a pane of glass in front of yourself shields you from thermals, so that would kill two birds with one stone. >>

He closely examines all edges of the window where it meets the pane of glass, looking for signs of movement in any direction that might indicate which way the glass moved before being put back.
