Two Spiders and a Race
Date of Scene: 27 October 2023
Location: Harlem
Synopsis: Ghost Spider and Silk converge on the same threat with the use of their Not-Spider-Sense tingles. Who has priority?
Cast of Characters: Cindy Moon, Gwen Stacy

Cindy Moon has posed:
"Well, at least it's quiet..."

Harlem during the day is hardly quiet, at least in the auditory sense of things. Traffic blares, pedestrians grump, the basketball courts ring with bouncing rubber balls and the clanging of chain nets. It is a typical New York day.

Which includes Cindy, dressed in her Silk ensemble, standing on top of the roof of the apartment building. And....talking to herself. Well, that's nothing new. The fact it is quiet? A little different than normal. Normally...Silk would be running from one quasi emergency to another. Such is the life of a Spider with a hyper-acute sense of awareness. But nope, not calling it a Spider-Sense.

Too cliche. That and she doesn't own the patent anyways. A couple twitches indicates that her Silk-Sense (patent pending) is certainly working...but minor. And, minor for her means maybe someone stubbed their toe. Or, more likely, a street-baller got upset the opponent scored on him or her.

See? Typical day.

Apart from the fact that there's a Spider-type person on the roof. Or...maybe that is typical, too.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
A Spider-type person on a rooftop? That's a typical day in New York. Lots of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-people about now! Enough to get a few buildings covered if they want to.

And Gwen Stacy, aka Ghost Spider, is one of those Spiders. If hanging upside down from a fire escape ladder technically counts as being on a rooftop! Let's say it does for the matter of this exercise. As for her VERY IMPORTANT mission at this point in time? She is currently 'making faces' at a baby that is close to a window, her mask distorting in funny ways as she continues to entertain the toddler. All until...

Her Spider-Sense(TM) tingles...

"Ooops, gotta jet. Stay cool, kiddo." Fingerguns at the kid before she *thwips* at the corner of the building, sliding towards that source of danger. It's a faint feeling so far so she's not expecting anything MASSIVE. But who knows? It's New York. Things tend to get way out of proportion.

Cindy Moon has posed:
Oh...wait a minute...

"Spoke too soon, didn't I?"

Yup, there's that Silk-Sense going off. Something's definitely up. Time to stop watching the basketball game.

Okay....off to the rescue! Or, whatever it is. There just might be a smile behind that red half mask of Silk's as she runs for the edge of the roof...

...and swan-dives off into the air. The position is held for a few seconds, the only indication of her falling being the black hair streaming backwards. Then, a forward somersault as the right hand extends, webbing erupting from the fingertips latching onto a fire escape. Then...off Silk goes.

Despite how many times Cindy has swung away, it is always exhilarating. Every single time.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
What's that saying? Never cross the beams? But maybe it should say never cross the webs, because what happens next is pretty much that for when Cindy thwips her own webs to converge on the source of that Not-Spider-Sense tingle another web is shot coming from the opposite direction, one shot by Gwen. Not that the webs tangle together mind you but there's a close fly-by of a familiar white black and pink dressed hero.

"Heeeeeeeyyyyyy....!" Is what Ghost Spider is exclaiming as she flies through, disappearing behind a building, circling around it with a strategically positioned web strand and then coming the other side, joining Silk further ahead, "Don't drivers coming from the right always have priority?" she teases, another web as she continues to swing close to Silk.

Cindy Moon has posed:
Should Cindy had been asked, she might have applauded the Ghostbusters reference. Still, that tingle that Silk is heading towards is joined by a shiver...one she seems at least somewhat familiar with. Which, when webs are shot and swing lanes are chosen, there is just enough of an adjustment, intuitive rather than intentional, that allows for Cindy to buzz the tower, err, Ghost Spider, despite the pattern being full.

"Drivers, yes." Another strand flings away, from Silk's left hand, as she moves over for the pink-clad Spider. "Don't think that counts for swingers though!" Quick assessment shows that hey, they are moving in the same direction. "You picked it up too, huh?"

What is 'it'? Who knows?! But hey, might as well have some fun on the way. "If I knew you was comin', I'd had gotten something. Not baking a cake though. None of us want that..."

Gwen Stacy has posed:
"Well, we rule the skies." Ghost Spider states as they continue to swing and bob between the buildings at high speed. This isn't any of them first rodeo after all, they very much used to the thrill of the swing already, "Maybe we should make our own rules." a sharp corner taken as they take another street to cut time towards the source.

"Like, swingers from the right always have priority, unless it's Ghost Spider who always has priority." a wink back at Cindy which SHOWS on her mask. Bless that Janet Van Dyne for making a awesome Ghost Spider suit. "Oh, I like that rule."

"Yes." Is then the answer about having picked up that 'something', the je ne sais quoi that sets them apart from the other heroes. Though as for cake, "I am partial to chocolate. And vanilla. For future reference." followed by a grin, "How about we make it interesting and ..., race it there?"

She doesn't wait for an answer, already swinging hard and fast!

Cindy Moon has posed:
"Not so sure I like that rule." There is a brightness to that comment. Yes, Silk is laughing. Though there is no need for a fancy designer mask to emote that. Cindy with her half mask means the top half is exposed...and the wrinkling of the forehead just above the nose, coupled with the headshake, proves that yes indeed, Silk is amused. "Maybe we should widen that so that female swingers always have priority."

A quick twist and Cindy is swinging backwards, shaking the wild strands of hair from her eyes as she notes the cake preferences. "Heh...me too. Just, we don't want me baking. Trust me. It's better for all of us..."

Wait...a race? And here Cindy got caught showing off by swinging backwards. "No fair!" The next web-line shoots out, as Cindy leans backward to flatten out. She may not have a cool mask and her hair might get in the way, but Cindy does have a few tricks that Gwen may or may not know about. Such has the ability to tweak her natural webbing on the fly. This last line is extra elastic-y, allowing Silk to slingshot herself to try to make up distance.

And, Cindy is fast...but so is Gwen. Still, the challenge was laid down and Cindy is not about to lose.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
"Mmm, I like that. Let's bring it a vote. Two yeas against zero nays. And the rule is in." And that's how they do it in Spider Court. Easy-peasy, making laws as easy as they swing through the skies. It's good to be a Spider.

"How can you mess up chocolate and --..." Pause as Cindy swings past with the totally cheating elastic-y webbing. "Hey, cheat!" and it turns into a real one on one racing, aerodynamic bodies flying through the air, under fire escape stairs. Over rooftops. Through a open window and out on a window on the other side ... That last one was Gwen cheating in her own manner to cut time!

It's a wild run through the skies of New York all until they take that last turn towards the source of that Not-Spider-Sense tingle and they find ....
