And now for a little bit of GIRL talk.
Date of Scene: 10 December 2023
Location: Meeting Room - GIRL Headquarters
Synopsis: Vivian gives Singularity some dating advice. What could possibly go wrong when an AI tells a sentient universe how dating works?
Cast of Characters: Singularity, Vivian Vision

Singularity has posed:
Singularity was having a conondrum, and needed advice on it. But, being the sometimes awkward little universe that she is, she has - instead of asking someone - has gone to the worst possible advisor of them all.

Sitting on one of the chairs of the meeting room, she has set one of the televisions to a movie. Playing up on the screen is the black and white classic 'Roman Holiday' starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. They are currently sitting on a Vespa, travelling through the streets of Rome. Reaching into a small bowl in front of her, she scoops out some popcorn, the kernels disappearing into her mouth as a notepad sits next to her, some words already scribed down.

---Asking Kara on a Date --

- Be brave.
- Be bold.
- Wear a pretty dress.
- Have an idea.

That's where the notes end, because Singularity has become asorbed in the movie. It reminds her of when she was part of the cosmos and was looking down on the Heroes Assembled universe. More popcorn is taken in, unaware that one really should have a soda with popcorn.

The say that TV rots your brain. What will it do to a universe that has become enthralled with black and white movies.

Vivian Vision has posed:
Technically there are worse places to go for advice. Singularity could have gone online.... Thankfully if she had searched for dating advice on the GIRL network Viv probably would have been able to safe search the results.

As it is? She's simply bustling around the building on a Sunday catching up on work. Not her own work. That's all done remotely. No Sunday is the day when Vivian does all the admin tasks that no-one else wants to do. Making sure people have everything they need to do SCIENCE!

At least until she walks past one of the meeting rooms and hears.. a movie? A seconds consideration in which she matches the audio. Reviews the movie synopsis, biographies of everyone involved, and then studies a selection of essays on the impact of the move away from black & white cinema to the movie industry.

This all completed she taps on the door. After all there isn't an official GIRL movie night booked. And if someone is using a meeting room they might be doing research off the books and could need some help. More likely it's just someone stopping by and it'd be a good excuse to say hello.

If there's no response? Well she can always phase her head through the door and take a peek.

Singularity has posed:
When Vivian pokes her head in, Audrey Hepburn's Princess Ann is arguing with a countess.

Princess Ann: I hate this nightgown. I hate all my nightgowns, and I hate all my underwear too.
Countess: My dear, you have lovely things.
Princess Ann: But I'm not two hundred years old. Why can't I sleep in pajamas?

She doesn't bother to pause the movie, instead, she grabs her pen and jots down a note.

- Buy pajamas.

That's when she notices Vivian. The little universe pushes her feet off the chair and nearly spills her popcorn in her rush to sit up. "Friend Vivian!" she greets brightly, the little cosmos beneath her skin moving around as she sets the bowl down. Once that's done, she's moving quickly to give her an affectionate hug as she greets her friend. "I have found movie. It is very good." she offers with enthusiasm, even if Rotten Tomatoes is not a fan. "I am getting advice." she explains. "Want to take Kara Zor-El on a date. Hope that she likes me. Wants to go. I am very nervous." the soft admission causes a small nebula to blossom in her cheeks and spreads across her nose, dashing as if it was freckles forming on her skin.

On the screen, the movie continues.

Countess: Pajamas?
Princess Ann: Just the top part. Did you know that there are people who sleep with absolutely nothing on at all?
Countess: I rejoice to say I do not.

Hearing that, Singularity pulls away from Vivian and quickly moves to the table, picking up the pen and scratches out the 'Buy Pajamas' line.

Vivian Vision has posed:
When Vivian pops in it's not quite as dramatic as Singularity. But phasing through the door does have a certain unusualness to it! Thankfully she's solid matter by the time the hug takes place. GIRL might be the right place to learn how matter that is out of phasic alignment interacts with a sentient universe. But that's what labs are for. The meeting rooms are generally used for theoretical science.

"There are very many movies out there," she muses. "I tried to watch them all when I was younger. In chronological order. I was so foolish back then... I even tried read everything. Fiction, non-fiction, you name it and it was on my to read list."

She shakes her head with dismay. Despite this being less than five years ago. Barely any time at all for a person. Although considerably longer in AI terms.

"Kara is one of the nicest people I know," she admits. "I'm sure you two will have a wonderful time. Have you given any thought to where you might go?"

Singularity has posed:
"How many did you end up watching? I have seen a few. Was introduced by friends." Singularity announces. As she crawls back into the chair and settles into it, there is a thoughtful pause. She pulls her feet back underneath her to sit on her feet.

"You. I. Will have plenty of time to observe." she points out. Even if Sing may outlive Vivian, she knows that the AI may be in for a very long lifespan.

"Kara is very nice. We teamed up to fight people with big guns. She said I was rad." the little universe comments. Which means she's met her once... and is asking her out. This won't end poorly, right?

"Where to go? I thought that we would just walk together. I did not know..." she looks up at the screen and frowns as if it may have betrayed her.

"No. Did not think of where to go. Just want to spend time with her." she admits quietly, her little meoldic voice taking on a slight tone of dismay.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Somewhere in the region of..." Viv frowns as she consults her long term memories. "Two hundred thousand? It turned out to be an impossible task. Many early films were made on highly flammable film and they were lost to the world. There are no firm estimates for how many films have actually been made. They think there might be about half a million total. But it also gets blurry what is a movie and what is a feature length television episode. I am able to split my mind  into thousands of sub-divisions. Each of which can watch a movie. So it didn't take as long as you might imagine."

She shrugs.

"I hope I will live long enough to read and watch everything available. But it's impossible to know what the future will hold! I suppose I could talk with a time traveller like Irie... But generally it's considered unwise to do such things. You can impact the future that way and not always in a good way."

Viv herself started dating Harper without a huge amount of time spent together. Who is she to judge!

"That is a wonderful start. There are many different kinds of dates. You can go to places, activities or events. As an example I took Harper to a museum because she likes dinosaurs." She smiles reassuringly. "If you're going for a walk try walk somewhere romantic. You can be anywhere in.. Well anywhere. A riverside in France. Some exotic planet where micro-meteors will pass through the atmosphere giving the impression of falling stars.  Other common activitiesare things like a cooking class or making pottery."

She moves a little further into the room. Standing with her hands clasped behind her back, head turned so she can see Singularity and the movie "If you don't know what she likes then you can always share something you like?"

Singularity has posed:
There's a long, very long thoughtful pause. And Singularity comments thoughtfully. "I could travel through time." she admits, as if mentioning she could make a sandwich. Sure, Irie is a time traveller, and all. But.

"I'm sure you will have the chance. I have faith." comes the warm comment and bright smile. "I should ask her where she wants to go. She may want a weiner. Or she may want to travel." Vivian is putting all types of new wrinkles in the young universe's plans to ask Kara out. She grabs the pen and paper and scribbles down.

- Ask what Kara likes.
- Planet with dinosaurs??
- Cooking in France?

"I am still learning what I like." she admits. "I have experienced many new things since taking this form. Since Arcadia. Since A-Force. Since arriving here. But she is heroine. Supergirl. She has probably done far more than I have." She reaches up, tugging on her hair nervously. She clearly has not gotten that far in the planning. So, the idea was.

Step 1: Ask Kara out.
Step 2: She says yes.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Relationship?

"I like this movie. Could share it with her. If she likes that. Will have to ask."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"When I take Harper on dates I always cook snacks and bring beverages along," Vivian offers helpfully. She doesn't exactly ignore the comment about how Singularity can time travel, but it seems like a bad idea to encourage her to use it just for the purpose of completing her movie viewing project. "I did learn to cook first. So it's something to consider for later." Is she assuming Singularity can't cook? Yes. But then she doesn't need to eat or drink. And so logically speaking it's a pretty safe bet. "Also Kara doesn't really need to stay hydrated as much as a Human would. But making a picnic for a date can be a nice touch. It shows you care enough to prepare things your partner likes."

The synthezoid teen giggles. "Weiner's are always a good call. Harper loves them too. I was drawing at a parkour event recently and that was the first thing she wanted after competing. Weiner's with all the toppings."

She frowns and then shrugs.

"She might have done a lot of things. But don't worry about that. She hasn't done them with you has she? So anything you do together will be new and special for you both."

She's not exactly spying on Singularity's list. But her senses do let her read it without trying. And she's not trying to /hide/ it. So it's not spying. Right?

"Would you like to borrow a small portable device that can play movies? You could bring it along on your walk. Then take a break to see a movie together. I am very unlikely to need it myself as I can just project a movie by thinking about it."

She hmms. "I can also put on alternate movies so you have a selection to choose from."

Singularity has posed:
To be fair, Vivian's making a good call. Singularity only knows what food is, nothing about the preparation, the care needed to make it. She'd probably be better off just grabbing some take out. Or. "I could ask her if she wants to get something to eat." she decides. "That way, if she wants weiners. She can have them. If not. Something else?" That gives the little universe a touch of optimism.

She wouldn't hide the list from Vivian even if she knew she was spying. She trusts the teen synthezoid. She has no reason not to.

"Oh. Could I? She may like that. But." There's a pause, and she looks really thoughtful, her white eyes half-lidded in thought as she considers.

"She says that she is shedding her human identity. Maybe go on a space trip would be better?" he asks Vivian. "She can fly fast. I can teleport. I am sure we can find someplace." There's a small shrug of her shoulders and she at least looks a little more hopeful. "After all, I cannot exactly hide." she points out. "Would not want to embarass her. We could watch movie. In space!" That seems to be a great idea!

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I know Kara likes cooking and painting," Vivian admits. "In terms of her hobbies. Food wise she makes Kryptonian dishes. At one point she was going to teach me some but things came up and we never made the time." And that something was Red Kryptonite. Not the sort of thing she really wants to worry Singularity with either. "Anything which incorporates them in some way will work well. You could ask her to teach you how to cook?"

She makes a note to also upload a restaurant guide to the movie player. It's not like she hasn't compiled a guide for just about every city on the planet. Just on the off chance she wants to take Harper there.

"Shedding her Human identity doesn't mean abandoning the things she likes about Earth... At least I hope it doesn't. I would be sad if you both went into space and never returned." She makes a polite little cough and skips back to more positive topics. "The movie player will work on most planets and moons. GIRL built an FTL space ship and part of the preparations involved... Well the sorts of things you might want for a space adventure. Like the ability to watch movies. It's basically just a small portable computer in a shell that shields it from anything that might damage it."

Is it indestructible? No. Will it work /anywhere/? Also no. But will it last a few hours playing movies in the sort of places which would make for a romantic date? Sure!

Unless it turns out Kara and Singularity really like planets where it rains molten metal or the atmosphere is so corrosive it will eat through the casing.

"You will need an atmosphere to hear the sound though," she blinks a few times. "I'll put some silent movies with subtitles on the list too."

Singularity has posed:
"But it would be wrong to ask Kara out just to ask her to cook and do all the work." Singularity points out. "That sounds more like I am asking her to teach me something. Instead of being romantic." the young cosmos admits as she starts doodling on her paper. She's drawing a little cartoon version of Kara's face on the pad as she considers what her next step is.

But Vivian is giving great ideas. Until she mentions leaving Earth. "I don't think we would leave for good." she says thoughtfully. "Maybe, if she wanted. We could go for a few days. But not forever." There's fidgetting of her fingers in thought.

"But if she says yes, can get computer. Will find a place to go and watch a movie. Or something." She kicks her feet a little because in the chair, her feet do not quite reach the floor, a reminder of how short she is compared to others. She's not Kaida short, but she's petite.

"I guess I will not know. Until I ask her." There's a long pause, because there's the realization.

"She may say no, after all." Her eyes dart down at that.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Yes, that is true. It's not a first date sort of idea. But telling her you would like to learn more about her interests and her culture is certainly a good thing. I do not need to be an expert on dating to know that," Vivian says with confidence. She's dated all of two people. But hey that's not bad for someone her age, right? "That's a relief though. About leaving. I would miss you both."

Singularity and Kara could both likely travel between planets to visit the same way friends from out of town could. But it's not the same as having people around all the time!

"I would offer to make you a little picnic. But Kara knows what my cooking is like... Generally in Human TV shows and movies when one party in a relationship gets help and the other finds out.. It turns into a comedy." Or a tragedy if it's Shakespeare. "I don't think that's how real life works but why take the risk?"

Besides the more of the date that is Singularity by herself the better.

"She might say no. But she said you were rad and you think she's rad too?" She pauses, then adds "It might be a little scary asking. But if you don't ask you'll always wonder what might have been. Anyway feeling nervous about asking is exactly how you know you're doing the right thing. I was nervous about asking Harper on dates because I really liked her. If I didn't feel that way it would mean I didn't really want to go on the date."

Singularity has posed:
Then Vivian has dated one more person than Singularity. And Sing was still a new person when she dated Nico. Does that really count? To her mind, it does. As the stars and the galaxies move around within her, she tries to get over this moment of worrying panic that Kara is gonna no at her.

"I think I will ask her what she likes. Maybe what she wants to do. She may have an idea. You're right. I just wanted to have an idea in case she asked me what I had in mind. And now I thik that I do. We can go see a movie together." In public. Just the two of them.

"It is scary." she admits. "But I want to do it. When it comes to Kara. I feel." she admits, her hands brushing over her cheeks as the little nebulas flare brightly on them.

Did she just equate herself a blush? "Thank you for helping me, Vivian." She rises up from her seat, she kisses the synthezoid on the cheek. "I appreciate it. I am going to go find her now."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I have uploaded the relevant movies," Vivian says with a wink. "And I will be wishing you both the best of luck! I am sure you'll have a wonderful time."

She frowns as she realises she probably should find the player if Singularity is going to ask now. Potentially it could be needed very soon! "I'll go get the player ready and keep it with me. Pop over if you need it. You can, after all, find me whenever you need to."

The synthezoid teen giggles at the kiss on the cheek. "Be sure to let me know how things turn out! Regardless of how things go we can have icecream and chat. It's something of an Earth tradition after all!"
