Rooftop ruminations
Date of Scene: 01 March 2024
Location: Roof - Titan's Tower
Synopsis: Viv and Emiko chat about art history and assassination techniques on the roof of Titans Tower. Also cooking comes up.
Cast of Characters: Vivian Vision, Emiko Queen

Vivian Vision has posed:
Typically when Vivian Vision is on duty at the Titan's her time is spent in the lab. Helping out with the various scientific works and analysis while keeping an eye on the buildings systems. But today she's up to something a little different. At least for her trips to the Tower anyway.

She's got her art easel set up near one of the corners of the roof.

Could she memorize the view in a moment and recreate a picture perfect drawing? Yes she probably could. But where would the fun in that be?

To add to the creative ambiance the young Synthezoid is playing a little classical music. Not from a stereo or speaker system. Simply creating the audio around her like a simulated orchestra is performing. (Although rather less loudly than a real orchestra. It wouldn't be polite to be a noise nuisance!)

Emiko Queen has posed:
Emiko Queen emerges from one of the stairway accesses to the rooftop, which tends to be a bit calmer than some of the other gathering locations within the tower itself. As long as no one is having a party at the pool, which is not the case today. Perfect.

The music catchs her attention as she walks out which she traces to Vivan's position at the corner. "Hmm." Strolling in that direction brings the easel into view as well and giving her a bit more of an idea of what's going on here. "Symphonic music, a nice view, looks like someone is getting their creative expression on." Emiko nods a bit at that. "Not often to see you not watching over the lab."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"To tell the truth I probably spend as my time drawing as I do in the lab right now," Vivian admits without turning her head. "I've gone back into education and college takes up a lot of my science time. I've barely had any chance to work on SPARKY in weeks." She shrugs. "At least with the art I can carry a sketchbook with me."

Finally she turns and gives Emiko and little wave of greeting.

"How are things with you Miss Queen?" she wonders. Then with a wry grin she notes "To tell the truth I can monitor the lab from anywhere in the world. So really I /am/ watching over it. Even when it seems like I'm not."

She glances back at the mainland, which appears to be the subject of her drawing, then adds "Do you have any artistic hobbies?"

Emiko Queen has posed:
"Things are good, if busy. But that is a norm for a lot of us isn't it? Education or otherwise." Emiko snickers a bit when Vivian points out she doesn't need to be in the lab to network monitor the lab, admitting "Okay I should of realized that you could do that." Not wanting to get in the way of artistic process she takes a few steps to the side and turns to lean back against the parapet edging the roof space.

After a moment she shakes her head a little. "No, I do not, as far as artistic goes." Turns a little to glance over her shoulder. "But I can still appreciate the view from here."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"It is rather lovely," Vivian says with a smile. "When no-one is fighting a giant monster or alien invasion that's blowing the city up." Thankfully the Titans tend to get ahead of such threats and stop them causing too much mayhem. Although several times various members of the Titans themselves have been the concern. "I'm sure you could take up a hobby if it appealed. A lot of martial artists have historically engaged in calligraphy for example."

She tilts her head and frowns.

"I wonder if it's merely cultural or if there was perceived to be some benefit in fine motor functions." She doesn't seem to mind where Emiko stands. Her perception isn't really limited to her eyes after all. "I find it helps clear my head to take breaks from the scientific work. A change is as good as a break I believe is the saying."

Emiko Queen has posed:
"Both," Emiko replies. "Arguable how much it does for finess, but belief is a very powerful motivator regardless." Then a bit of a frown as she shakes her head. "But no, other than learning to read and write in proper Japanese scripts I did not train in caligraphy. The assassin clan did not believe in such... frivilousness in training it's would-be living weapons."

Emiko trails off into a pause. Puts a hand to her chin in a thoughtful cusp.

"But why would I care about what they think of it now...."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I guess if you go back far enough historically then artist was a good cover story for an assassin," Vivian decides. Clearly having consulted some data and run simulations from the way her tone changes. "Paints have often been toxic. It's a way to get yourself alone with an important target..."

She laugh. "Not that this would encourage you given you've left the life of an assassin behind. But yes, you shouldn't let anyone else hold you back from trying new things. It'll give you plenty of chances to meet new people and experience new things. No matter what creative field you experiment with."

She doesn't seem to be halting in her drawing. No matter which way she's looking.

"Is there anything which does appeal to you? Music? Dance? Drawing? Perhaps poetry?"

Emiko Queen has posed:
That gets another brief smirk from Emiko. "Paints, perfumes, a lot of things can be dangerous introducing to someone's body without being externally so. But not something commonly known so I'm still impressed you'd pick up such information. Even with the internet. Not all information is easy to find even with that access."

She leans back against the boundry once more, watching Vivian work on her piece. That she's an artificial lifeform doesn't take away from the fact that multitasking the painting, the conversation, and whatever else is going on in her synthetic mind is impressive.

She folds her hands behind her head. "You make me realize I've actually had exposure to a lot of things, just not in the framing context of a 'passtime'. Food for thought."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Actually it was very easy to locate the information," Vivian points out. "I'd already looked up the history of paint. That was cross referenced with basic chemistry. A lot of early paints were dangerous externally too. Cosmetics too. They used to use arsenic as face paint and lead was put into wine to sweeten it. People have done many things we now consider ill advised."

Her eyes flick from side to side. As if she was skim reading something. "Probably even now there are plenty of lifestyle choices people think are normal which will seem foolish to future generations."

She laughs.

"Food is another form of art if you think about it. Do you cook? I have dabbled with baking. Nothing like to the extent Miss Fairchild cooks. But I like to think I've got pretty good at it for someone who doesn't actually eat."

Emiko Queen has posed:
"That's humans for you. Sometimes we need to nearly kill ourselves to learn something is a bad idea. But we're better once we do." Pause. "Well, as a whole. Individuals is another matter." It's a little one the darker side of humor, but being able to laugh a bit at such things without underminding their serious aspects is how Emiko deals with such matters.

"Enough to fend for myself, but not in any artistic capacity." Then she grins again. "Though that would also put knife skills to use... do you have some means of simulating taste or smell?" she asks out of honest curiousity. "I would think that could be important to cooking even if you don't eat."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Lets just hope the nearly part remains consistent!" Vivian agrees with wry amusement. "And yes often the learning process is.... fraught."

She blinks a few times. "I can do anything a Human can do," she points out. "I can smell and taste. Probably much better than any organic Human can. I /can/ eat if I want... It's just it seems unethical for me to consume food when I can live off sunlight. Given there are people in the world who can't live off light who are starving."

Emiko Queen has posed:
"That's entirely fair." Emiko turns around, instead leaning over the roof guard to look at the city spanning out from the Tower's view. "That is similar to the reason I sometimes come up here. To think, and remind myself not just what we fight for, but who." She holds a hand out towards the city. "Not for us, but for them. Protecting lives instead of ruining them."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I try to ensure situations progress in a way which means fighting isn't necessary at all," Vivian teases. "But yes I do follow your point. It's better to be motivated by a desire to protect other people than for more selfish reasons like fame or fortune."

"Cooking doesn't have to include knife skills. You could take up baking. Make cupcakes. Very little cutting involved. Except perhaps for chocolate or butter."

Despite having been talking the entire time it looks like Vivian's drawing is near completion. Her pencil having been in constant motion throughout.

"Anyway, it's been a pleasure to catch up with you Emiko. But sadly my ability to remotely operate the lab has some limitations. And I believe my physical attendance is required."

Emiko Queen has posed:
"Yeah. Even if I am not a full fledged assassin in method anymore, the skills do lend themselves well to vigilantism when fighting does need to be done. And I will probably give the cooking-slash-baking notion some consideration. If nothing else, it'd help with having a speedster for a boyfriend." She turns around and nods, smiling and waving after the synth-girl. "Better get down there then. But thanks, nice to have someone to chat with and not be entirely alone with my thoughts."
